Casting Call: Susan Sarandon in I HATE YOU DAD, Jennifer Hudson Joins THE THREE STOOGES, Johnny Knoxville in FUN SIZE, and Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg and More in SEXY EVIL GENIUS

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 1st, 2011

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you today. First up, Susan Sarandon has joined the cast of the Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy I Hate You Dad. The comedy revolves around a father who moves in with his son and his son’s fiancĂ© just before they’re about to get married, with Leighton Meester set to play Samberg’s fiancĂ©e. THR reports that in addition to Sarandon, Will Forte, Milo Ventimiglia, Eva Amurri (Californication), Blake Clark, Meagan Fay (Party Down), Tony Orlando, Dan Patrick and previously announced James Caan are all in negotiations to join the Sean Anders-directed comedy. Sarandon will play a sexy teacher who is the mother of Samberg’s character.
Additionally, Jennifer Hudson is the latest actor to join the cast of the Farrelly brothers’ The Three Stooges. The film stars Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Stephen Collins and Craig Bierko. Deadline reports that Hudson will play Sister Rosmary at the orphanage that the Stooges are raised. Lynch and David play two other (presumably evil) nuns at the orphanage. The Three Stooges is currently filming. Hit the jump for the casting news of Johnny Knoxville and a lot more in Fun Size and Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, Katee Sackhoff, Harold Perrineau and Billy Baldwin in Sexy Evil Genius. http://collider.com/susan-sarandon-i-hate-you-dad-jennifer-hudson-three-stooges/94114/

Focus Features Sets TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY for November 18th

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 1st, 2011

If you were wondering whether or not Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John Le Carre’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was being set up for an awards run, you now have your answer.  Variety reports that Focus Features has set the spy thriller for November 18th.  The story centers on “George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a veteran spy pulled out of semi-retirement to ferret out a Soviet agent in MI6.”  Oldman is already receiving early buzz on his performance and he’s bolstered by a strong supporting cast that includes Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Graham, and Benedict Cumberbatch.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see the film premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, but nothing has been announced on that front.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy has some tough competition on November 18th, but it’s not going for the same audience.  Also opening that weekend is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and Happy Feet Two, which obviously are going for after a different demographic than Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel.

Paul Schneider to Star in Broken Lizard’s THE BABY MAKER; Sienna Miller Reportedly Joins FREAKY DEAKY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 27th, 2011

We have a couple quick casting notes to report.  First up, Paul Schneider (Lars and the Real Girl) will star in Broken Lizard’s new movie The Baby Maker.  While Broken Lizard will star and the troupe’s Jay Chandrasekhar will direct, the script was penned by Ice Age: The Meltdown writers Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow.  Per Variety, “Story follows a married couple who fail to conceive after months of trying, prompting the husband to enlist his friends’ help to rob a Pasadena sperm bank, where he made a deposit as a young man.  All of the Broken Lizard members are expected to co-star, with Kevin Heffernan playing the protag’s crazy best friend, who hooks him up with an Estonian master thief, played by Chandrasekhar. Other Broken Lizard members include Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske.”
Why the sperm bank wouldn’t simply give him back his own seed is beyond me.  I’m also surprised that sperm keeps for that long.  Logistics aside, Schneider is terrific actor and it will be interesting to see him play against the Broken Lizard gang.  Hit the jump for some casting news regarding the adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s Freaky Deaky.

Trailer for THE WHISTLEBLOWER Starring Rachel Weisz

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: May 27th, 2011 at 8:47 am

The US trailer for The Whistleblower has gone online.  Based on real events, Rachel Weisz stars as a UN peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia who uncovers rampant corruption and a massive cover-up of criminal activity.  The film played the festival circuit last year to positive notices and I’m glad I’ll finally get a chance to see it in the near future.  In addition to Weisz, the impressive cast features David Strathairn, Monica Bellucci, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jason Isaacs, and Vanessa Redgrave.

With the film’s release only a few weeks away, the first clip from Green Lantern has gone online.  The clip was shown on Attack of the Show before an interview with Michael Clarke Duncan who voices Kilowog.  In the clip, we see Kilowog training Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).  What I really like about this clip is that previously we’ve seen Hal generate swords, chainguns, and a giant fist, but what’s so fantastic about the ring is that it can conjure anything.  Seeing what a seasoned Green Lantern Corps member like Kilowog constructs in this clip is pretty ingenious and raises my excitement for the completed film.

New Picture of Sean Hayes as Larry in the Farrelly Brothers THREE STOOGES Movie

Sean Hayes (Larry) The Three Stooges movie image slice
With filming underway in Atlanta on the Farrelly Brothers Three Stooges movie, the other day we posted our first look at Larry (Sean Hayes) and Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) on set.  However, we now have a much better look at Hayes as Larry.  If there was anyone who doubted that Hayes looked like Larry, this picture will silence the naysayers.  However, we still don’t know how he’ll play the character, but I’ve always thought Hayes was an underrated actor, and I think he’s going to nail it.
The Three Stooges will be comprised of three 27-minute segments (just like the originals), the first of which see them as children raising all kinds of hell in an orphanage.  Hit the jump for a better picture. http://collider.com/three-stooges-movie-image-sean-hayes-larry/93280/

Megan Fox Wants to Star in "Carrie" Remake

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

It was recently revealed that MGM hired Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Big Love," "Glee") to write the script for the upcoming "Carrie" remake, based on a Stephen King novel.

After the announcement, King mentioned that the casting process will be very interesting, naming Lindsay Lohan as someone who could play the role. Now comes word that Megan Fox is interested in playing Carrie.

"Megan is a huge fan of the original and would love the chance to play the lead," said a source close to the actress. "She's 25 now but she's sure she could still do justice to teenage Carrie. She's told her people to make it happen."

Question: Is Megan Fox right for the role?

Ashton Kutcher's "Two and a Half Men" Contract is For Only 1 Year

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

After an extensive search for Charlie Sheen's replacement on "Two and a Half Men," CBS eventually decided to cast Ashton Kutcher. Now comes word that the actor has only been signed for one year.

The problem is that CBS has licensed the show for only one additional year. If the network decides to renew it for a second year, Kutcher will once again have to negotiate his deal, likely getting even more. On the other hand, the network could simply cancel the show or re-cast Kutcher.

Sources claim that CBS is only looking to extend "Two and a Half Men" for two or three more years before calling quits for good. By bringing Kutcher at $750,000 per episode ($20 million per season), the network is saving money. Since Sheen was also a producer on the show, he was earning a whopping $2 million per episode. But whether fans will tune into a Sheen-less "Two and a Half Men" is yet to be seen.

Craig Bierko to Play Mac in THE THREE STOOGES; Chris Diamantopoulos Is Moe
by Jason Barr Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 6:44 pm

The Farrelly Brothers-helmed The Three Stooges continues to take shape as both Craig Bierko (Cinderella Man) and Chris Diamantopoulos (Fox’s 24) have officially joined the film’s cast. Deadline reports that Bierko will play the role of Mac, “one of the heavies trying to exploit the Stooges,” whereas Diamantopoulos has officially signed on to play Moe. In addition to Bierko and Diamanatopoulos, The Three Stooges also stars Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry, Jane Lynch, and Larry David. 20th Century Fox is looking to begin production on The Three Stooges later this month.

Derek Luke and Lindsay Sloane Are SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
by Jason Barr Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 7:45 pm

Derek Luke (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Lindsay Sloane (She’s Out of My League) are currently in talks to join Keira Knightley and Steve Carell in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Written/directed by Lorene Scafaria (who penned Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), the film centers on two neighbors (Knightley and Carell) who decide to go on a road trip to find Carell’s high school love prior to an asteroid ending life on Earth as we know it. Production on Seeking is expected to begin later this month.
Per Variety, Luke’s role would be as Knightley’s ex-boyfriend, a military man who is primed and ready to face the end of the world head on in his bomb shelter. Sloane would play a “friendly waitress who is rolling on Ecstasy as doomsday approaches.” In addition to the already mentioned cast, we previously reported that Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, and William Peterson are also in negotiations to join Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

Variety reports Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) and Matthew Goode (Leap Year) as “a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers, known for being high-profile car thieves, who travel to the South of France looking for new challenges and come across a tough local crime boss.” Antonio Negret, the Colombian filmmaker who just finished shooting Transit, will direct Overdrive. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (Wanted) will write the script. The $30 million production should get in front of cameras later this summer for a planned summer 2012 release.

Jane Lynch Joins THE THREE STOOGES as Head Nun

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 27th, 2011

Things are moving right along for the Farrelly brothers’ long-gestating The Three Stooges film. After finally locking up their cast with Will Sasso set as Curly, Sean Hayes signed on as Larry, and Chris Diamantopoulos in talks to play Moe, Jane Lynch has just signed on to play the head nun in the film. Deadline reports that Lynch will play Mother Superior in what will presumably be the opening “episode” of the flick. The Farrelly brothers previously mentioned that rather than doing a biopic, The Three Stooges will be comprised of three brand new episodes featuring the lovable characters.
The first episode apparently involves the Stooges’ time at an orphanage, where they (naturally) cause all kinds of kooky havoc and disruption. Cher was previously rumored to be involved with the role, but it looks like the powers-that-be have settled on Lynch. In addition to the aforementioned cast, Sofia Vergara is in talks for a leading female role in the film, though details on her character are unknown at this time. To catch up on the problematic history of the project, click here.

Armie Hammer in Talks to Join Johnny Depp in THE LONE RANGER

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 27th, 2011

Merely a week ago, it was reported that Ryan Gosling was working on trying to fit Disney’s The Lone Ranger into his schedule, with the actor eyeing the title role opposite Johnny Depp’s Tonto. After quickly ending the talks, with Gosling unable to work the film around his schedule, we now have another actor in the running for the role: The Social Network’s Armie Hammer.
Deadline reports that Hammer is in early talks to join the project, with Gore Verbinski (the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films) at the helm. The story will supposedly focus on Depp’s Tonto, using him as an “unreliable narrator.” While the prospect of Gosling and Depp bantering in a fun adventure flick was enticing, Hammer seems to be a great choice as well. His fantastic work in The Social Network garnered him enough attention to secure a starring role in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, which is currently filming, and the actor is also attached to Tarsem Singh’s Snow White flick.

Kristen Wiig, Anna Faris and Gillian Jacobs in the Running for Female Lead in THE DICTATOR Opposite Sacha Baron Cohen

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 27th, 2011

Casting for the next Sacha Baron Cohen film The Dictator is heating up, with producers looking to fill the part of the female lead. Kristen Wiig, Anna Faris and Gillian Jacobs (Community) are among the frontrunners to play opposite Baron Cohen in the Borat-esque comedy. Larry Charles, who also helmed Borat and Bruno, is directing the film which tells the “heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed,” with Cohen playing a dictator who gets lost in the US.
THR reports that Jason Mantzoukas (The League) is already attached to play Cohen’s sidekick in the film. Producers are looking for actors with very strong improvisational skills, and understandably so given the unscripted nature of Borat and Bruno. The report stresses that Cohen and Co. are still looking to fill the female lead role, and it could very well end up going to someone other than Wiig, Faris or Jacobs. Filming is set to begin in May in New York and Morocco for a May 11th, 2012 release date.

David Lindsay-Abaire Adapting His Play GOOD PEOPLE for Focus Features; Frances McDormand to Star

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: April 27th, 2011

David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) opened Good People last month on Broadway, and he’s in negotiations to cash in the rave reviews for a script deal with Focus Features.  24 Frames hears Frances McDormand is attached to reprise her role as Margie Walsh from the stage production.  Lindsay-Abaire, a Boston native, set the drama in the working-class, predominantly Irish neighborhood Southie.  Margie is a high school dropout and single mother of a mentally disabled daughter who struggles to make ends meet.  Tate Donovan (Damages) plays a successful former classmate of Margie’s — their relationship anchors the class politics explored in the production.  It is not specified if Donovan or other cast members are involved in the talks with Focus; Dan Jinks (Milk) is on board as producer.

Joseph Kosinski to Direct ARCHANGEL

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 25th, 2011

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is now attached to helm New Regency’s sci-fi thriller Archangel. Variety reports that Adam Cozad (The Gray Man) has signed on to write the screenplay, which tells the story of “a secret unit of the military that tracks and hunts down aliens among us.”  Cozad also recently wrote the script for the Jack Ryan reboot starring Chris Pine. Scott Free will produce Archangel.
Kosinski is expected to next direct Horizons (also known as Oblivion), a sci-fi actioner set up at Universal with Tom Cruise attached to star. That film was originally at Disney, but the Mouse House didn’t feel the PG-13 story fit with their library, so they let Kosinski shop the project around. An October start date is being eyed for Horizons.

Chris Diamantopoulos Frontrunner to Play Moe in THE THREE STOOGES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 25th, 2011

A frontrunner has emerged in the Farrelly brothers’ search for the right actor to play Moe in their Three Stooges movie. Apparently Chris Diamantopoulos (TV’s 24) is at the top of their list, after going through a rigorous casting process in order to find the perfect fit. Variety reports that Diamantopoulos is number one on their list to join Will Sasso as Curly and Sean Hayes as Larry. Sofia Vergara is also in talks for a leading role.
The Farrelly brothers have been trying to fill out this cast for some time now, after going through some very public cycles (Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro were initially set to star). The film will not be a biopic, but rather a feature-length Three Stooges movie divided into “three 27 minutes segments, driven by physical comedy.” 20th Century Fox hopes to get production started sometime this spring.

Mindy Kaling Joins Judd Apatow-Produced Comedy FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT

The cast now includes Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Rhys Ifans, Lauren Weedman, David Paymer, Kevin Hart and Jacki Weaver. Directed by Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek), the film follows a young couple’s (Segel and Blunt) extended engagement and the bumps and bruises that they undergo along the way.
Variety reports that Kaling will play one of Ifans’ grad students. Stoller previously directed Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and the two co-wrote this project together.

Russell Crowe Looks to Make His Feature Directorial Debut with 77

by Eytan Hirsch    Posted: April 25th, 2011

After starring in acclaimed crime dramas such as LA Confidential and American Gangster, Russell Crowe now looks to be ready to jump into the director’s chair with a new 1970’s period crime drama called 77.  The movie is based on a story by LA Confidential writer James Ellroy and will be adapted by David Matthews.  Crowe also plans to star.
Deadline reports that the film will revolve around the unsolved homicide of an LAPD officer in 1974 and the ensuing nationally televised battle in South Central Los Angeles between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the LAPD, which included 50,000 rounds of gunfire.  The events will be told through two police partners, one black and one white.  Hit the jump for my thoughts on Crowe’s potential as a director.

Casting Call: Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen Film, Maggie Grace in TAKEN 2, Thandie Newton in GOOD DEEDS, Jay Baruchel in COSMOPOLIS, Ryan O’Nan in FREELANCERS

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 6th, 2011

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, it looks like Penelope Cruz is set to re-team with director Woody Allen. The actress won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona and now EW reports that she’s set to work with the director again, presumably on his next film that is set in Rome. There are currently no plot details on the flick, which is set to start filming this summer.
Maggie Grace has closed her deal to return in producer Luc Besson’s Taken 2. There was previously some hubbub over whether star Liam Neeson would reprise his role from the first film, but everything was squared away and now Deadline reports that the film is ready to go with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3). Hit the jump for the casting news of Thandie Newton starring in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, Jay Baruchel joining David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Ryan O’Nan nabbing a starring role in Freelancers.

Sofia Vergara in Talks to Join THE THREE STOOGES

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 6th, 2011

Hot off the heels of the news that the Farrelly brothers have set Will Sasso and Sean Hayes as Curly and Larry, respectively, in their long-in-the-works The Three Stooges movie comes word that actress Sofia Vergara is eying a role in the film. The Wrap reports that the actress is in talks for the role of “Lydia.”
After numerous casting changes/rumors/auditions, it looks like the Brothers Farrelly are at last nearing production on the film. With Larry and Curly cast, producers now look to Moe. Apparently Hank Azaria is the frontrunner to grab that role. The film will not be a biopic, but rather a feature-length Three Stooges movie divided into “three 27 minutes segments, driven by physical comedy.” 20th Century Fox hopes to get production started sometime this spring.

Sean Hayes Is Larry in THE THREE STOOGES

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: April 4th, 2011

To cast the role of Larry in The Three Stooges, the Farrelly brothers cycled through Sean Penn, Paul Giamatti, Andy Samberg, and most recently James Marsden.  In the end, the slapstick-heavy role will go to Emmy winner and wild gesticulator Sean Hayes (Will & Grace).  Hayes is the second official Stooge, following the hiring of Will Sasso ($h*! My Dad Says) to play Curly.  Hank Azaria (Love and Other Drugs) was the latest actor to be mentioned as the frontrunner to portray ringleader Moe, but Variety’s report lists no contenders it mentions that the role is up for grabs.

Check Out Colin Farrell's Awful Combover In First Images From Horrible Bosses

published: 2011-04-04 20:57:35 Author: Katey Rich
At Cinema Con last week Warner Bros. debuted the first trailer for Horrible Bosses, their summer comedy that isn't The Hangover Part II and may turn out to be even funnier; Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day star as three doofuses who scheme together to kill their awful employers, played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell. The movie looks goofy and energetic and original, with three breakout comic performances in the leads and three familiar actors doing something a little different as the evil bosses. Colin Farrell, in particular, seems to be swinging for the fences by donning a terrible combover wig.

While that trailer hasn't yet shown up online, the first images from the film have popped up in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, as scanned by The Playlist. You can get a glimpse of Farrell's awful wig, plus Aniston putting the moves on Day (he plays her dental assistant) and Spacey laying down the law to Bateman and Day. Farrell's wig, obviously, is the money shot here, so check that one out on top below. Fuller sizes are available at The Playlist, and the movie hits theaters July 8.

Keanu Reeves Divulges A Bit Of Plot From Bill And Ted 3

: 2011-04-04 19:06:32 Author: Eric Eisenberg
We've been hearing for months - if not years - that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will reunite for a possible Bill and Ted 3. Back in September Reeves expressed hope for the project and Winter confirmed that the project was in the works, but one major question still loomed: what would the sequel be about? Today we have an idea.

MTV has learned that not only is the first draft of Bill and Ted 3 about two months away, but has also divulged a few details about the story. Speaking with Reeves, who is currently promoting his new film Henry's Crime, the actor said that the movie would spin-off from the way things ended in the first sequel, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, when the duo's band, Wyld Stallyns, becomes known as the best in the universe. Said Reeves,

"When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened. So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."
I feel like it should be noted that while Reeves went on to have a massively successful career since the stoner time travel movie came out in the 80s, Winter's work has consisted mostly of bit parts and voice-over work. It will be interesting to see how these two characters have changed in the twenty years since we last saw them. It's just too bad that George Carlin isn't still around to play Rufus.

Bill & Ted 3 to Write the Song That Saves the World!
It's been months since we last heard anything about Bill & Ted 3, though it seems the project is still moving forward. Keanu Reeves recently revealed in an interview that he expects the script to be done in six weeks.

He also revealed that Bill & Ted 3 will tie into the end of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, with the guys now in their 40s and still not having written the song that saves the world. Here's what he had to say below.

"I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft. No pressure, guys! When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened. So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."

Back in September, we reported that Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the original writers of both Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, are writing the script.

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey actually ends with Bill and Ted getting lost on the way to the first-ever gig on Mars. It is not known if that element of being lost in space will play a factor in the storyline at this time.

Bill & Ted 3 is in development and stars Alex Winter, Keanu Reeves.

Armie Hammer Cast in THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE; Saoirse Ronan in Talks to Play Snow White
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 26th, 2011
Universal took the early lead in casting their Snow White adaptation with dibs on Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Viggo Mortensen for the lead roles. But talks with Mortensen have since entered a rough patch, and Relativity has seized the opportunity to push their own Snow White movie to the forefront. Armie Hammer (The Social Network) has closed a deal to play Prince Andrew Alcott in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. Hammer is the second official cast member, joining Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Of course, that leaves the title role: Saoirse Ronan is in talks to play Snow White for director Tarsem Singh (The Fall). In the script by Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller, “Snow White bands together with seven dwarfs to reclaim her kingdom.” More after the jump:

Robert De Niro Joins 50 Cent in FREELANCERS; Forest Whitaker in Talks
by Max Lichtig Posted: March 26th, 2011
If you thought 50 Cent couldn’t scoop up any more great actors in his cinematic wave of destruction, you were dead, dead wrong. We’ve seen the comical trailer for the trying-too-hard drama Things Fall Apart; the trailer for Setup showed the likes of Bruce Willis and Ryan Phillippe somehow drawn into its cast. NOLA reports that Curtis Jackson’s next movie, Freelancers, locked in Robert De Niro; Deadline adds that Forest Whitaker is in negotiations to join the cast. Jessy Terrero (who brought us the forgettable Soul Plane) will helm Freelancers, the story of the son of a murdered NYPD cop who joins the police academy, graduates, and gets recruited by a group of rogue cops led by his father’s old partner (De Niro). Freelancers is scheduled to shoot four weeks in New Orleans starting in April.

Sounds interesting? Well, let’s not count our chickens before the trailer hatches.

Will Sasso Is Curly in THE THREE STOOGES; Hank Azaria and James Marsden the Frontrunners to Play Moe and Larry
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 26th, 2011
Will Sasso ($h*! My Dad Says) joined the endless casting discussion surrounding The Three Stooges earlier this week. Yet unlike other Stooges reports, it actually led to something substantial. THR reports that Sasso is the first official Stooge — the bald, rotund actor will obviously play Curly for the directing Farrelly Brothers.

Filming was once scheduled to begin in March, so at some point 20th Century Fox needs to stop the revolving door and hire a Moe and a Larry. Hank Azaria (Love and Other Drugs) and James Marsden (Death at a Funeral) are the latest actors to be linked to the role, but I don’t recommend you let that register until a more official report. More about the project after the break.

Hank Azaria And James Marsden The Frontrunners For Remaining Three Stooges Roles?
published: 2011-03-25 23:20:26 Author: Eric Eisenberg
With the project set to go into production in the middle of next month and one of the dust settled in regard to their first casting selection, we can probably assume that the rest of the actors to be in Peter and Bobby Farrelly's The Three Stooges will be announced fairly soon. Now we might have an idea of who they're looking at.

Deadline reports that the two names now surfacing to play Moe Howard and Larry Fine, respectively, are Hank Azaria and James Marsden. Should they be cast, they would join Will Sasso in the film, who just a couple hours ago was announced as Curly. Where the actors stand is highly speculative, however, as Deadline doesn't reveal a source for the information and at one point goes as far as to say "the name I am most often hearing..." Both Azaria and Marsden have roles in the Universal live-action/CGI-animated Easter movie Hop, which comes out next week.

While I find the Marsden rumor fairly strange (the same guy who played Cyclops in the X-Men movies?) I love the Azaria idea. The guy has always been hilarious and it isn't a stretch to see a physical resemblance - just throw a bowl cut on him.

Michael Sheen Enters Talks For Tim Burton's Dark Shadows
published: 2011-03-25 19:45:45 Author: Eric Eisenberg
If you haven't already been aware of it, Tim Burton has a habit of casting a lot of the same people in his movies. It's the reason Johnny Depp has been in seven of his movies and Helena Bonham Carter has been in six. Last year Michael Sheen took on the part of the White Rabbit (albeit voice only) in Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and now the director has him coming back for round two.

The Playlist has learned from unnamed sources that Sheen is now in talks to join the cast of Dark Shadows, Burton's film adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera. Should he sign on, he will be part of a project that already includes the aforementioned Depp and Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green, Bella Heathcote, and Michelle Pfeiffer (who is working with Burton for the first time since Batman Returns). It's unknown what role he would be playing. The film is scheduled to begin shooting next month and will be released in 2012.

Sheen is really a joy to watch in anything, so you're not going to be hearing any complaints from me about who he's playing, regardless of the character. Who knows, maybe he'll strap on his Tony Blair suit again. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Michael-Sheen-Enters-Talks-For-Tim-Burton-s-Dark-Shadows-23877.html

R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor (1932 – 2011)

Actress Elizabeth Taylor has passed away at the age of 79. ABC News has confirmed that Taylor died of congestive heart failure this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Taylor’s career in Hollywood spanned five decades. She was nominated for five Oscars and she took home the award for Best Actress for her riveting performances in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and BUtterfield 8. While she retired from acting in 2001, she was one of Hollywood’s greatest legends and one of the most in-demand stars of the 1950s and 60s. In 1985, she devoted herself to fund-raising and activism against AIDS and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Our deepest condolences go out to Ms. Taylor’s friends and family. Hit the jump for a statement from her son Michael Wilding.

Taylor’s son Michael Wilding released an official statement:
“My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love.  Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts.”

Will Sasso Joins THE THREE STOOGES Casting Race
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 23rd, 2011
Add Will Sasso ($#*! My Dad Says) to the list of potential actors who may be leading the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges. THR reports that Sasso is a “likely frontrunner to play Moe, Larry or Curly”. While I don’t doubt that Sasso has the comic range to play any of the Stooges, I think we can all agree that he would probably play Curly if he was cast in the film.

I’ve been a fan of Sasso’s ever since I saw him on MADtv back in the 90s and I’d be happy to see him land such a major role. After the jump, you can check out Sasso in one of my favorite MADtv sketches, “Paul Timberman’s Workshop”.

Bill Nighy and Danny Huston Join CLASH OF THE TITANS Sequel; Full Synopsis Revealed
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 23rd, 2011
Production has begun on Jonathan Liebesman’s untitled sequel to Clash of the Titans. Warner Bros. has sent out a press release confirming the film’s cast. Returning actors Sam Worthington (Perseus), Liam Neeson (Zeus), Ralph Fiennes (Hades), and Danny Huston (seen in the first film for half-a-second as Poseidon), will be joined by Edgar Ramirez (Ares), Toby Kebbell (Argenor, Posiedon’s demigod son), Rosamund Pike (Andromeda), and Bill Nighy (Hephaestus). It’s worth noting that Gemma Arterton, who was rumored to return as Io, isn’t mentioned in the press release.

Warner Bros. has also sent out a full synopsis for the sequel. The story takes place 10 years after the first film with Perseus attempting to lead a quiet life. But he’s called back into action in order to rescue Zeus after the god is captured by Ares and Hades in a deal to unleash the titans. The plot clearly has a major role set up for Kronos, the leader of the titans, but no actor has been linked to the role at this point.

Hit the jump for the full press release and synopsis. Clash of the Titans 2 is set to be released in post-converted 3D (ugh) on March 30, 2012.

Trailer for Yet another Terrible-Looking 50 Cent Movie, SETUP, Co-Starring Bruce Willis
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 23rd, 2011
A couple weeks ago, we showed you the hilariously-awful trailer for Things Fall Apart starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. While some rappers have shown they can excel at music and acting, 50 Cent is not one of those rappers. Any on-stage charisma he has vanishes when he’s on camera, and his gigantic teeth seem to get in the way of him intelligibly delivering dialogue.

But if you saw the trailer for Things Fall Apart and were left thinking, “Man, I wish there was more where that came from,” then you’re in luck. The trailer for future direct-to-DVD movie Setup has gone online and it will leave you wondering, “Seriously, Bruce Willis? You’re in this? Did you forget you’re an A-Lister?” I can understand when Val Kilmer co-stars with 50 Cent in Gun, but this just baffles me to pieces.

Hit the jump to see Willis making a toast to “crime” and informing a hapless thug that “God has left Detroit.”

Bad Teacher Trailer: Cameron Diaz Wants Justin Timberlake For His Money

published: 2011-02-22 22:16:44 Author: Katey Rich

Justin Timberlake will be following up on his newfound credibility as a movie star twice this summer, once in the romantic comedy Friends With Benefits opposite Mila Kunis (another actor suddenly taken much more seriously now that she's in an Oscar-nominated film). But first up, on June 24, is Bad Teacher, that stars Timberlake's ex Cameron Diaz as a foulmouthed middle school teacher who suddenly decides to become good at her job in order to save up for a boob job.

It's telling that the very first trailer for the film to go online is red-band, and opens with Diaz saying over hamburgers, almost offhand, "Fuck my ass." It only gets dirtier and sillier from there, with Diaz deciding to woo the new substitute teacher played by Diaz, smoking pot on school grounds, swearing at students and, for some reason, volunteering for a school car wash wearing clothes better suited to her character in the Charlie's Angels movies. There's a lot going on in the trailer, and it's hard to know if it'll all fit together in a coherent or actually funny movie. And there's a disappointing lack of Jason Segel, so it's hard to know if his role is really small or just hard to explain in a quick trailer. But with Jake Kasdan directing, his first film since the hilarious and terribly underrated Walk Hard, and The Office's Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg writing, there's reason for a little bit of blind faith.

Check out the trailer below (after entering a valid birthdate-- sorry, kids!) and marvel at Diaz's dirty mouth and Timberlake's preppy look that somehow, like everything, looks good on him.

Bill Murray Says He Hasn't Read "Ghostbusters 3" Script

Posted: February 22nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Everyone wants to make "Ghostbusters 3," but Bill Murray is not sure that he wants to be involved, since he's still regretting agreeing to make the second installment. Now during an appearance on Howard Stern's show, the actor touched on why he's holding up the production.

Stern: Is it true that there is a 'Ghostbusters 3' and that you're the problem and you will not sign off on this? Do you know about this?
Murray: Yeah, I guess I'm the problem. Before I was an asset, [but] now I'm a problem. There's a script somewhere [on my desk], but I haven't read it yet.

Stern: Why haven't you read it? Is it because you think it's a bullsh*t idea? In other words, 'Ghostbusters' has had its time and you did a remarkable job with that and you've moved on?
Murray: There's a little bit of that. I only made one sequel and it was 'Ghostbusters 2' and it didn't end up the way it was presented.

About five years after we did the first one, the clever agents got us all together in a room and we really are funny together, I mean they are funny people – Harold [Ramis] and Danny [Aykroyd] and myself, with Ivan [Reitman] and maybe one or two other people. We were just blindingly funny for about an hour or so and the agents, there was just foam coming off of them.

They had this pitch and Danny and Harold had concocted some story ideas and it was a story, it was good story. I think I had even read one or two [scripts for 'Ghostbusters 2'] that Danny had rolled out beforehand, but this one was a good one. I said, 'Ok, we can do that one.'

It was just kind of fun to have all of us together. I mean [Rick] Moranis, Annie [Potts] – these people are just sterling people to begin with.

Stern: So how do you go back and really make another? Does Ivan want to make ['Ghostbusters 3']?
Murray: Yeah, Ivan wants to make it and I owe him, you know. He's puzzled that I haven't gotten to this one.

Stern: How long has it been sitting on your desk, this script for 'Ghostbusters'?
Murray: Well, it may not be on the desk – it's over there somewhere. How long? I don't know.

Robin Quivers: So you have no interest?
Murray: Well, I'll get to it. I gotta get to it – I feel bad. I got a message and I think people – I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings – it's not the foremost thing in my mind, so I don't think about it.

You know, the studio gets excited every 10 years or so. What they'd really like to do is recreate the franchise. I remember when the new 'Ghostbusters' was going to be Chris Rock, Chris Farley and Chris Crane – that had it together.

Stern: Is that a threat to you? In other words, did they try to threaten you by saying we're going to put together a new 'Ghostbusters' and therefore you guys will have to go do it?
Murray: It's not a threat, it's sort of businesslike – they'd like to keep it going. There are still kids today that watch this movie and love it, it's still very popular. They still sell a lot of toys and everything.

Justin Timberlake And Larry David Up For Farrelly's Soon To Shoot Three Stooges Movie

published: 2011-02-22 23:11:48 Author: Josh Tyler
I just walked out of a screening for the Farrelly Brothers' new sex comedy Hall Pass and into a slew of news about what could be their next project: The Three Stooges. The Farrelly’s have been trying to turn the classic comedy team into a big screen movie for years now and, I was kind of impressed when I read their script. Somehow though, this thing has just never really come together. Everyone from Jim Carrey and Sean Penn to Andy Samberg and Benicio del Toro has been attached to the film. None of that seemed to pan out. Tonight we’ve been gifted with more casting rumors to heap on the pile. How does Justin Timberlake as Larry work for you?

The
Boston Herald says Timberlake’s name is just one of those being considered by Peter and Bobby Farrelly for their renewed attempt at a Three Stooges movie. Other contenders for the Larry role are said to include Woody Harrelson and Larry David, of all people. Johnny Knoxville and Hank Azaria are supposed to be up for Moe, and Will Sasso is competing with a host of unknowns for the part of Curly.

That’s a lot to chew on. I’m not sure which, if any, combination of those names would actually work. The range of ages and styles and backgrounds among those actors is all over the map. How can Justin Timberlake and Larry David be up for the same part? It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Maybe that’s why even the Farrelly’s don’t sound like they have a clear direction yet. Bobby says, “It’s a little tricky, right? Because they all have to be about the same age and even around the same height. We’re waiting for that first person that we’re going to say, ‘This is going to be our Moe, Larry or Curly’ and we’ll build around that. But it’s going to happen soon. It will be within three weeks.”

The fact that they have a decision deadline, though, is good. Or at least it’s good if you actually want them to make this movie. It’s moving forward and they’ve already made plans to shoot in Georgia, where the tax incentives are favorable. The Three Stooges seems like it’s finally happening, even if the casting process doesn’t make a lot of sense. The Stooges have always thrived in chaos, I suspect they wouldn't want it any other way.
