Matthew Goode in Talks to Join Nicole Kidman in STOKER

Matthew Goode (Watchmen) is in talks to land the male lead in director Chan-wook Park’s (Oldboy) drama Stoker. Already starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, the project was penned by actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) and centers on a young girl (Wasikowska) who encounters her mysterious uncle while mourning her father’s death. Variety reports that Goode’s negotiations are for the role of said “mysterious uncle,” a part previously courted by the likes of Colin Firth, James Franco, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Edgerton. Stoker is housed at Fox Searchlight and will mark the English-language debut for Chan-wook Park. Tony and Ridley Scott will produce the pic under their Scott Free moniker. As for Goode, “Ozymandias” himself can next be seen in the “romantic dramady” Burning Man from director Jonathan Teplitzky. http://collider.com/matthew-goode-stoker/95489/

International Trailer and Two New Images from THE HELP

The international trailer for writer/director Tate Taylor’s The Help is now available online. While the first half of the cut is very similar to the trailer released back in April the last minute devotes more time to highlighting the interview process that Emma Stone’s character takes on while writing about the lives of African-American maids in Jackson, Mississippi during the civil rights movement. While I consider Stone a great young talent, I’m mostly looking forward to checking out The Help because it looks to be genuinely interested in showcasing a segment of the African-American plight during a tumultuous time in American history as opposed to simply pointing out how helpful white people can be to those poor, helpless black folk (I’m looking at you, The Blind Side). Here’s to hoping that turns out to be the case.

In addition to Stone, The Help also stars Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Sissy Spacek, and Octavia Spencer. The film hits theaters later this summer on August 12th. John Krasinski to Star in Matt Damon’s Directorial Debut

Never one to be outdone by his Good Will Hunting buddy Ben Affleck, Matt Damon will soon follow that old actor’s cliché and admit that all he ever really wanted to do was direct. Damon has been considering stepping into a director’s chair for a while now, initially planning to cut his teeth on the long discussed baseball wife-swap movie The Trade, which also would have featured himself and Affleck in the lead roles. However, that movie is now on hold due to undetermined legal troubles and Damon plans to move on to Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses. The wheels are already in motion on the project, with a rough start date in place for next year with John Krasinski attached to star. The first teaser poster for Disney’s The Muppets has popped up online, albeit as a blurry and off-center snapshot taken by a fan in Montreal, but that’s better than nothing right? It features the classic characters Gonzo (my personal favorite), Fozzie Bear, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal walking out onto what appears to be a stage aglow with spotlights. It’s awesome to have the Muppet gang back, but this picture creeps me out. THEY’RE WALKING, as in with legs — it’s too much too soon. Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne to Star in Agatha Christe Adaptation CROOKED HOUSE; Neil LaBute Will Direct

Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne have signed on to star in an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel Crooked House. In the murder mystery is set against “the backdrop of three generations of a family that lives together in a large and seemingly crooked house.” Every member of the eccentric family has motive to have killed the multimillionaire patriarch, Aristide Leonide. Neil LaBute (Death at a Funeral) will direct from a script by Julian Fellowes (The Tourist) and Tim Rose Price (The Serpent’s Kiss). The $20 million production is scheduled to shoot this summer in the U.K. The story calls for a large ensemble, so expect more casting notices in the near future. Andrews, Goode, and Byrne — and sure, let’s throw in the lovely Arterton — is a very good start.

The Weinstein Company Acquires THE IRON LADY Starring Meryl Streep

The Weinstein Company may have just acquired their top Oscar contender for next year’s ceremony. Yesterday, it was announced that TWC had grabbed U.S. distribution rights to the Margaret Thatcher drama The Iron Lady. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!), the film stars Meryl Streep as Thatcher, with Jim Broadbent playing her husband Denis. The Iron Lady chronicles Thatcher’s rise to become the UK’s first and only female Prime Minister. The film is set to be released sometime later this year. Yvonne Strahovski Joins Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in MY MOTHER’S CURSE

Paramount has signed Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski to star opposite Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in My Mother’s Curse. The story revolves around “an inventor (Rogen) who invites his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love.” According to THR, Strahovski will play the high school sweetheart that Rogen’s character once proposed to. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct from a script by Dan Fogelman (Tangled), based on his own experience traveling with Mrs. Fogelman.


NBC just renewed Chuck for a fifth and final season. If there is any justice, the careers of Strahovski and Zachary Levi will be sufficiently launched by the end of the series. The Aussie actress will make her Hollywood feature debut opposite Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, and Clive Owen in The Killer Elite.

Craig Bierko to Play Mac in THE THREE STOOGES; Chris Diamantopoulos Is Moe

The Farrelly Brothers-helmed The Three Stooges continues to take shape as both Craig Bierko (Cinderella Man) and Chris Diamantopoulos (Fox’s 24) have officially joined the film’s cast. Deadline reports that Bierko will play the role of Mac, “one of the heavies trying to exploit the Stooges,” whereas Diamantopoulos has officially signed on to play Moe. In addition to Bierko and Diamanatopoulos, The Three Stooges also stars Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry, Jane Lynch, and Larry David. 20th Century Fox is looking to begin production on The Three Stooges later this month.

Derek Luke and Lindsay Sloane Are SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD

Derek Luke (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Lindsay Sloane (She’s Out of My League) are currently in talks to join Keira Knightley and Steve Carell in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Written/directed by Lorene Scafaria (who penned Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), the film centers on two neighbors (Knightley and Carell) who decide to go on a road trip to find Carell’s high school love prior to an asteroid ending life on Earth as we know it. Production on Seeking is expected to begin later this month.
Per Variety, Luke’s role would be as Knightley’s ex-boyfriend, a military man who is primed and ready to face the end of the world head on in his bomb shelter. Sloane would play a “friendly waitress who is rolling on Ecstasy as doomsday approaches.” In addition to the already mentioned cast, we previously reported that Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, and William Peterson are also in negotiations to join Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

Alex Pettyfer and Matthew Goode in Talks for OVERDRIVE

Two months after his Dune adaptation collapsed, Taken director Pierre Morel has set up his next movie as a producer, the action thriller Overdrive. Variety reports Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) and Matthew Goode (Leap Year) as “a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers, known for being high-profile car thieves, who travel to the South of France looking for new challenges and come across a tough local crime boss.” Antonio Negret, the Colombian filmmaker who just finished shooting Transit, will direct Overdrive. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (Wanted) will write the script. The $30 million production should get in front of cameras later this summer for a planned summer 2012 release.

Jackson Rathbone and Erika Christensen to Star in THE IDIOT Adaptation

Jackson Rathbone and Erika Christensen have signed on to star in the feature adaptation of the Fyodor Dostoyevsky novel The Idiot. The thriller centers on “a man of pure spirit who thinks he can save the world but is caught between a wildly beautiful and fragile woman, a woman he is falling in love with and a friend who is trying to destroy him.” Variety reports Paul Williams will direct with an eye toward a September shoot in Los Angeles. Donald Kushner (Tron: Legacy) will produce. Intandem Films is currently shopping the package to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival.
