New Trailer for FINAL DESTINATION 5

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

The new trailer for Final Destination 5 has gone online and as always, every thing can be boiled down to “Go to mundane location, bad things happen.”  The Final Destination franchise preys on our fears that we could die from a freak accident at any time.  I would love to see the Final Destination film where someone escapes the big accident at the beginning and then instead of the reaper getting him or her with a Rube Goldberg project of death, the person just dies from a long, protracted illness.  At least this one kind of raises an interesting moral quandary about whether or not you would kill an innocent person if it ensured your own survival.  And really, what would a Final Destination movie be without an arbitrary new rule that was never mentioned in the previous entries?

Neil Burger to Write and Direct UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 7th, 2011

Neil Burger (Limitless) has signed on to write and direct the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  Burger replaces David O. Russell who left the project in May after Sony disagreed with O. Russell’s decision not to give fans exactly what they think they wanted (which, if it’s a straight adaptation of Drake’s Fortune, is just a video game they can’t play).  Variety reports that “producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner sparked to [Burger's] new take on the pic.”

Marc Forster’s MACHINE GUN PREACHER Slated for September 23rd

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

Relativity Media has picked up Marc Forster’s drama Machine Gun Preacher and will give the film a limited release on September 23rd.  The movie is based on the real-life story of Sam Childers (played by Gerard Butler), a former drug-dealer who eventually became a crusader for hundreds of refugee children in East Africa.  The film also stars Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, and Michael Shannon.
Since it’s opening in limited release (most likely to build buzz for a possible awards run), it won’t really be competing against the movies opening in wide release, but here’s the list anyway: Abduction starring Taylor Lautner, the family film Dolphin Tale 3D, the action flick Killer Elite, and the sports drama Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.  Hit the jump for the press release from Relativity. http://collider.com/machine-gun-preacher-release-date/100875/

International Teaser Trailer for THE IRON LADY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

The international teaser trailer for the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady has gone online.  Because Meryl Streep can be nominated for an Oscar for just about anything she does and because the Academy loves impersonations of historical figures within a dramatic context, I’d say Streep is looking pretty good for her 17th Oscar nomination (it also helps that she’s an incredible actress).  This is all a way to say that if The Iron Lady hits US theaters before the end of the year (and since it debuts in the UK in January 2012, it would probably be ready before year’s end), one of the Best Actress nominations will be taken.  Sorry, other actresses.
Hit the jump to check out teaser trailer.  The Iron Lady also stars Harry Lloyd, Jim Broadbent, Anthony Head, and Olivia Colman.

First Look at Nori, Ori, and Dori in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 7th, 2011

The first part of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit is a still over a year-and-a-half away, but Warner Bros. is showing no hesitation in letting fans get an early look at how the project is developing.  We’ve already seen the first images from the movie and now the studio have released a first look at dwarves Nori (Jed Brophy), Ori (Adam Brown), and Dori (Mark Hadlow).  Nori, Ori, and Dori are three of the thirteen dwarves that accompany Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) “who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.”  I like the design of the costumes and make-up.  It’s clear they’re trying to emphasize that not all dwarves look like Gimli.
Hit the jump to check out the image along with a brief bio on the brothers Nori, Ori, and Dori.  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.  Both movies will be in 3D. http://collider.com/hobbit-movie-image-nori-ori-dori/100724/

Jason Statham is Older Sam Witwicky in "Transformers 4"?Posted: July 7th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staf

Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf are not returning for any more "Transformers" installments, which is why it was recently reported that Paramount Pictures are considering Jason Statham as the lead in "Transformers 4," which may be a reboot of the franchise.

But producer Don Murphy says that "Transformers 4" won't be a reboot. Instead, it may be a the beginning of a new trilogy. "What happens next? Certainly not a reboot," he explained. "We haven't lost the Transformers. They didn't grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don't know what happens next. I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy."

If the plan is to continue the franchise, there is a good chance Statham may play an older Sam Witwicky, the character LaBeouf has been playing in the last three films.

Summer Glau Wields A Sword In New Knights Of Badassdom Still

published: 2011-07-07 18:29:22 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Thanks to the film's presence at this year's Comic Con there should be plenty of news surrounding Knights of Badassdom coming in the next few weeks, but for now we haven't gotten an update from the film in a few months. Back at the start of the year the movie's official Facebook page delivered two awesome stills of star Peter Dinklage, with one featuring True Blood star Ryan Kwanten. The cast, however, is much larger than just those two names, and today we have our first shot of Summer Glau on set.

Brandishing a sword and standing what looks somewhat like a medieval fair ground, the former Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star delivers high levels on the badass meter, just as the title of the film would suggest. Also starring Danny Pudi, Steve Zahn, Jimmi Simpson, Margarita Levieva, Joshua Malina and Michael Gladis, the film is about a group of live-action role players (known to many as LARPers) who suddenly find themselves in real danger when they accidentally summon a demon.
