Joel Edgerton and Luke Evans Top Contenders for Role of Tom Buchanan in THE GREAT GATSBY

Director Baz Luhrmann continues to fill out the cast for his 3D adaptation of The Great Gatsby. His primary cast of Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as Daisy is set, and he’s now turned his attention to the crucial role of Tom Buchanan. Ben Affleck was previously circling the part, but was ultimately unable to fit the film into his schedule as his next directorial effort Argo starts production in September and Gatbsy is poised to roll in August. Now it looks like Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) have emerged as frontrunners for the role. Hit the jump for more, as well as a synopsis of the book.

Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan Cast as Mother/Daughter Vampire Team in BYZANTIUM

News out of the Cannes Film Festival suggests that vampire movies are not quite dead yet. Director Neil Jordan and producer Stephen Woolley will reteam for the all-in-the-family vampire pic, Byzantium. Based on an original script by Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre), Byzantium is the story of a deadly pairing of a mother vampire (Arterton) who turns her daughter (Ronan). In addition to the principal cast members, Byzantium also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse).

6 TV Spots for THE HANGOVER PART 2 Feature New Footage

Warner Bros. has provided us six new TV spots for The Hangover Part II to promote the May 26 release. This set of TV spots feature new footage not previously seen in the trailer or prior TV spots for those who want that extra taste. It will be difficult to recapture the lightning in a bottle that made the original so great, but everything we’ve seen so far is promisingly very funny.
Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galfianakis, Justin Bartha, and Ken Jeong reprise their roles for the comedy sequel directed by Todd Phillips. Watch the TV spots after the break.

Kim Basinger, Nick Stahl, Freddy Rodriguez and Jennifer Morrison Up for OVER THE WALL

The cast for the thriller Over the Wall is starting to fill out. Kim Basinger, Nick Stahl and Freddy Rodriguez are all attached to star in the film, with Jennifer Morrison in advanced negotiations to join them. Variety reports that Steven Christopher Young will make his feature directorial debut on the flick, which is being produced by Young and Larry Meistrich.
The love story takes place in the world of stock-car racing and tells the story of how a tragic accident rocks the lives of four people. Production is set to begin this summer in Ohio. The project is currently being shopped at Cannes.

But this first clip from the film gives me pause. The way Jack frees himself from the guards with a simple flip of the wrists looks silly and for an escape from the palace, I’m confused as to why he’s going away from the window. Of course, the big problem with clips is that they lack context, so hopefully this scene will work better when I see the film. Hit the jump to check out the clip. For the set visit to The Hangover Part II, secrecy was critical. What we saw we were told not to write about until now, and what we were told was minimal. Though now the general premise and storyline has been outed by the trailer, when we came on all that was known was that the boys would be going to the Far East for their adventures.When we went to the Warner Brothers lot, it was dressed as a shitty Thai apartment, where Ed Helms was running around in his underwear with a tattoo on his face, Zach Galifianakis had a shaved head, and Bradley Cooper was wrestling with a monkey. Saoirse Ronan to Star in Adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s THE HOST

Saoirse Ronan is one of the best young actors working today and she’s managed to give impressive performances regardless of whether she’s in a great film (Hanna) or an atrocious one (The Lovely Bones). Here’s hoping that The Host is the former because Deadline is reporting that Ronan has landed the lead role. Based on the novel by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer, The Host is about an alien species called “Souls” that latch on to human hosts, destroy their consciousness, and erase their personalities. Ronan would play Melanie Stryder, one of the remaining free humans who is captured by the aliens and implanted with a Soul called “Wanderer”. Wanderer intends to make Stryder give up the location of her cohorts, but instead becomes impressed by Melanie’s unwillingness to surrender her consciousness, and Wanderer becomes driven to connect the young woman to her former life.Writer Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show) wrote the script and was set to direct before moving on to the sci-fi drama Now starring Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake. But since that film is now mostly finished, it’s possible that Niccol may return to The Host. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel.

published: 2011-04-07 08:01:10 Author: Katey RichI'm a big fan of Joe Wright's newest film Hanna-- my full review posts later today-- and once again excited about the director of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, who baffled me and many other people by turning in last year's drab and pandering The Soloist. To follow up on his new teen-assassin film Wright is moving back to classical literature, preparing to tackle Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina and assembling a dynamite cast to help him do it. Keira Knightley, Aaron Johnson and Jude Law are all confirmed for roles, Atonement co-stars James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan are trying to make the scheduling work, and as Wright told The Playlist, two more up-and-comers are on board as well.
"Kelly Macdonald‘s confirmed, Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed. I’m still waiting on Saorise and James," Wright told them yesterday. Cumberbatch actually makes this even more of an Atonement reunion, having played the actual rapist who goes off scot free when Ronan's character Briony accuses McAvoy instead. The British actor has been working steadily for years in all kinds of films you might recognize him in, and after appearing in last year's Four Lions he's got a huge 2011 lined up, with roles in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, Spielberg's War Horse and the Rachel Weisz drama The Whistleblower. Macdonald isn't doing too bad for herself either, stealing scenes in No Country for Old Men and leading herself to a lead role on Boardwalk Empire as the ambitious Irish immigrant Margaret Schroeder.
As The Playlist pieces the cast together, they've got Knightley starring in the title role, with Law playing her husband Karenin and Johnson her lover Vronsky. Once McAvoy and Ronan get their schedules put together-- he just had a baby, she's likely waiting to settle a deal for The Hobbit-- they'll be able to decide on this Wright reunion, and production is set to start in the fall. Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton: 'Warrior' Trailer!

Synopsis: Haunted by a tragic past, ex-Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for SPARTA. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.
The film, directed by Gavin O’Connor, is expected to hit theaters September 9.

Sarah Jessica Parker shares a chuckle with Abigail Breslin as the duo film scenes for their new movie New Year’s Eve on Wednesday (April 6) in Queens, New York.
In the romantic comedy, Sarah plays Kate, the mother of Abigail’s character, Hailey. Kate learns throughout the film that she relies too heavily on her young daughter for company.
Earlier in the week, the 46-year-old-actress walked around NYC with her real-life daughters, baby twins Marion and Tabitha.

Warner Bros. has released four minutes of the Green Lantern footage they recently debuted at CinemaCon and WonderCon. The clip provides a long look at the on-screen Oa, and I really like what I see. It’s a geometrically crazy world that human Ryan Reynolds has to believably interact with, and it looks like the visual effects department nailed it.
Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Jon Tenney, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins. The DC Comics superhero adaptation is scheduled for release on June 17. Watch the footage after the jump.

Summit previously scheduled the 3D The Darkest Hour for August 5, a fairly typical summer release date for a sci-fi thriller. Per Box Office Mojo, the studio has pushed the film to December 23, a less natural holiday season bow. On the new date, The Darkest Hour must vie for 3D theaters against The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn; the date also holds The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and We Bought a Zoo.
Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachel Taylor, Max Minghella, and Joel Kinnaman star as young tourists who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. Chris Gorak (Right at Your Door) is directing from a script by Jon Spaihts. Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is among the producers.

Plot: The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king's mission.

Joe Wright is already reuniting with one of his Atonement stars for his planned Anna Karenina film, which will star Keira Knightley, and now he may be bringing the other two on board as well. According to an article by Anne Thompson at IndieWire about British production company Working Title, Anna Karenina has been greenlit by Universal, and Wright is eyeing both James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan for roles in the sprawling film. Jude Law and Aaron Johnson are already on board.
Both Ronan and McAvoy are keeping very busy schedules these days, though now that Ronan won't be playing the Snow White part she was heavily rumored for (it went to Lily Collins) she may have a free spot on her schedule. She and Wright are spending plenty of time together as they make the rounds to promote their new film Hanna, so it makes sense that they'd have time to talk over whichever role he wants her to play in Anna Karenina. As for McAvoy, his future will be determined by how X-Men: First Class performs this summer--he may have many years of playing Professor Xavier ahead of him. Beyond that, though, he can probably make a reunion with Wright work.
Though Hanna, a modern-day action thriller with strong fairy tale elements, is a bit of a departure from the polished period world of Atonement, Anna Karenina gets Wright back to what he established early as his wheelhouse. It's a classic story that's building a phenomenal cast-- there's nothing not to hotly anticipate here.

**Amy Adams Cast as Lois Lane in SUPERMAN Reboot **5 Clips from HANNA
Amy Adams is Lois Lane in "Superman" Reboot

Warner Bros has announced that Amy Adams (The Fighter) has been cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming "Superman" reboot, joining Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
"Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," said Snyder. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
"Superman: Man of Steel" is planning to begin shooting in August in Chicago, where the film will spend ten weeks before moving indoors in Vancouver. The $175 million movie will be filming under the name "Autumn Frost" and is set to hit theaters in December of 2012.

Amy Adams Is Lois Lane In Zack Snyder's Superman

The news that Henry Cavill would be playing Superman for Zack Snyder first broke on a Sunday afternoon in January, so I guess it's no surprise that another huge bit of casting information has come on a slow weekend afternoon. According to The LA Times, Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in the film; Snyder phoned Adams today and gave her the news, and gave the following quote to the Times:
“There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. Focus Features has given us 5 clips from director Joe Wright’s (Atonement) action/survival film Hanna. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana, the film tells the story of a 16-year-old trained assassin (Ronan) whose perpetual fleeing an intelligence agent takes her across Europe. While I’m embargoed from saying too much, I don’t think Focus will be upset if I tell you I thought Hanna was fantastic. Also, the music by The Chemical Brothers fits the movie perfectly. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for the past few days almost nonstop. Definitely recommended.

Warner Bros has announced that Amy Adams (The Fighter) has been cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming "Superman" reboot, joining Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
"Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," said Snyder. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
"Superman: Man of Steel" is planning to begin shooting in August in Chicago, where the film will spend ten weeks before moving indoors in Vancouver. The $175 million movie will be filming under the name "Autumn Frost" and is set to hit theaters in December of 2012.

The news that Henry Cavill would be playing Superman for Zack Snyder first broke on a Sunday afternoon in January, so I guess it's no surprise that another huge bit of casting information has come on a slow weekend afternoon. According to The LA Times, Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in the film; Snyder phoned Adams today and gave her the news, and gave the following quote to the Times:
“There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. Today we have the trailer for the Uruguayan horror movie "La Casa Muda (The Silent House)," which was filmed in one single continuous 78-minute shot. Check it out below.
Plot: The story focuses on Laura, who, second by second, intends to leave a house which hides an obscure secret. Laura and her father, Wilson, settle down in a cottage they have to renew since its owner will soon put the house up for sale. They intend to spend the night there and make the repairs the following morning. Everything seems to go smoothly until Laura hears a sound from outside that gets louder and louder on the upper floor of the house. Wilson goes up to see what is going on while she remains downstairs on her own, waiting for her father to come down.
"The Silent House" has played at several film festivals and is now ready to be released in the UK on April 8th. And an American remake has already been made. It recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with Elizabeth Olsen (sister the Olsen twins) in the lead.

Universal has released 7 clips for their upcoming hard-R comedy Your Highness. The film stars Danny McBride as a lazy prince who is forced to go on a quest with his brother (James Franco) to rescue his brother’s fiancée (Zooey Deschanel) from an evil wizard (Justin Theroux). I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve heard it’s hilarious and that folks are amazed with what director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and writers McBride and Ben Best (Eastbound & Down) got away with.

After having seen Patrick Wilson in Joel Schumacher’s The Phantom of the Opera, it makes sense for him to have done some musical work, but Brett Rickaby? You might know Rickaby from last year’s The Crazies and, if you’re bold enough, you’ve already caught him in his latest creeper, Bereavement. Well, playing super scary isn’t the only thing this guy’s good at. With years of experience under his belt, Rickaby is ready to take a stab at writing, directing and producing. (No pun intended.)
Rickaby’s busy working on a film based on a true personal story-- and a musical-- called The Book of Matthew. Yes, the film has an IMDb page, but it’s got rumor written all over it – literally. Amongst the list of rumored stars is Wilson, so, of course, while chatting with Wilson about his upcoming film, Insidious, I had to ask about the status of The Book of Matthew.
Wilson was thrilled to recall his time on the road with Rickaby while working on a traveling musical 15 years back, but when it came to The Book of Matthew, unfortunately all Wilson could say in terms of a production update is that it’s just “so hard to get independent movies made.” On the bright side, Wilson was able to flesh out the film’s plot quite a bit. The movie comes from a play Rickaby penned which was “his own story of getting caught up in a religious sect when he was in college and him trying to get out.” Sounds like this could really be something fresh and interesting, so hopefully Rickaby will find the resources he needs to turn this one into a reality.

Cobie Smulders will don a catsuit for The AvengersIn February, How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders was confirmed for the role of S.H.E.I.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers. She will be playing sidekick to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.
Today, she has finally come forward to speak a bit about the role, revealing that she will begin shooting soon, and that she will be wearing a catsuit in the upcoming Joss Whedon directed superhero ensemble.
"We start in April, which is like... tomorrow. I literally leave here and I go to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to shoot some scenes in a catsuit. I've tried on portions of the catsuit [and] I've seen conceptual drawings of what they want it to be. It's fascinating to me. I feel like wardrobe becomes very creative on these types of movies because they literally spend weeks designing just the pants or the emblem. It's such an all-consuming process, so I'm excited to see how it all turns out."
The Avengers comes to theaters May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Saoirse Ronan has not been confirmed for The HobbitThe Hobbit is currently in production in New Zealand, with Peter Jackson directing this two-part prequel. Back in January, we reported that young actress Saoirse Ronan had joined the cast, although it seems she is still not confirmed for the Middle Earth saga. Here's what she recently had to say below.
"That's not confirmed. I would love to do it. It would be great to go there, and if they ask me I would say yes."
The actress, who previously worked with director Peter Jackson on The Lovely Bones, was reportedly circling the role of Itaril. There is speculation that her involvement in The Hobbit will not be announced until her new movie Hanna hits theaters on April 8, in a bid to drum up some publicity for that much smaller film.

But talks with Mortensen have since entered a rough patch, and Relativity has seized the opportunity to push their own Snow White movie to the forefront. Armie Hammer (The Social Network) has closed a deal to play Prince Andrew Alcott in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. Hammer is the second official cast member, joining Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Of course, that leaves the title role: Saoirse Ronan is in talks to play Snow White for director Tarsem Singh (The Fall). We’ve seen the comical trailer for the trying-too-hard drama Things Fall Apart; the trailer for Setup showed the likes of Bruce Willis and Ryan Phillippe somehow drawn into its cast. NOLA reports that Curtis Jackson’s next movie, Freelancers, locked in Robert De Niro; Deadline adds that Forest Whitaker is in negotiations to join the cast. Jessy Terrero (who brought us the forgettable Soul Plane) will helm Freelancers, the story of the son of a murdered NYPD cop who joins the police academy, graduates, and gets recruited by a group of rogue cops led by his father’s old partner (De Niro). Freelancers is scheduled to shoot four weeks in New Orleans starting in April.
Sounds interesting? Well, let’s not count our chickens before the trailer hatches.

Will Sasso Is Curly in THE THREE STOOGES; Hank Azaria and James Marsden the Frontrunners to Play Moe and Larry

Will Sasso ($h*! My Dad Says) joined the endless casting discussion surrounding The Three Stooges earlier this week. Yet unlike other Stooges reports, it actually led to something substantial. THR reports that Sasso is the first official Stooge — the bald, rotund actor will obviously play Curly for the directing Farrelly Brothers.
Filming was once scheduled to begin in March, so at some point 20th Century Fox needs to stop the revolving door and hire a Moe and a Larry. Hank Azaria (Love and Other Drugs) and James Marsden (Death at a Funeral) are the latest actors to be linked to the role, but I don’t recommend you let that register until a more official report. Will Sasso ($h*! My Dad Says) joined the endless casting discussion surrounding The Three Stooges earlier this week. Yet unlike other Stooges reports, it actually led to something substantial. THR reports that Sasso is the first official Stooge — the bald, rotund actor will obviously play Curly for the directing Farrelly Brothers.
Filming was once scheduled to begin in March, so at some point 20th Century Fox needs to stop the revolving door and hire a Moe and a Larry. Hank Azaria (Love and Other Drugs) and James Marsden (Death at a Funeral) are the latest actors to be linked to the role, but I don’t recommend you let that register until a more official report. With director James Gunn’s Super opening April 1, I was able to sit down with most of the cast this morning to talk about the film. Next week I’ll be posting the full interviews, but I wanted to get what Liv Tyler said about The Strangers 2 and The Hobbit online today.
As some of you are aware, the first Strangers was made for under $10 million and it went on to make over $80 million at the worldwide box office. With that kind of success, it’s no surprise that Rogue Pictures has been talking about making a sequel. Early reports pegged Liv Tyler returning and that filming could begin this year. However, Tyler told me, “I don’t know anything about…they’ve been talking about it forever and I know there is a screenplay that Bryan Bertino wrote which I’ve read part of but not the whole…I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen. Bryan is not directing it and I’m not really in it. I’d have to decide, but it’s not about me.”
Regarding The Hobbit, with a number of original cast members coming back, and yesterday’s press release saying that more cast members would be announced, I wondered if we might see Arwen (Tyler’s character in Lord of the Rings) return for even a few moments in either Hobbit film. According to Tyler, “I haven’t heard from anybody.” She also didn’t know that filming began today. More after the jump.

Tribeca Film has released the first official trailer for The Bang Bang Club, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of last year. The political drama is based on the true story of a group of four young combat photographers situated in post-Apartheid South Africa in the early 1990s: “This intense political period brought out their best work (two won Pulitzers during the period) but cost them a heavy price.”
Ryan Phillipe, Malin Akerman, and Taylor Kitsch star in the narrative feature debut of writer/director Steven Silver. The Bang Bang Club opens on April 22. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Ian McShane Joins JACK THE GIANT KILLER

Ian McShane has joined the cast of Jack the Giant Killer, singlehandedly upping the badass quotient 30% on this retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. Nicholas Hoults stars as a farm boy who “leads an expedition to free a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) taken hostage by a giant, a situation that threatens the uneasy peace between humans and giants.” According to Heat Vision, McShane will play King Brahmwell, the princess’ father who disapproves of his daughter’s poor choice in poor men. Stanley Tucci will play the villain of the film, a scheming adviser to the king. Ewan McGregor is set as the leader of the king’s guard. Bill Nighy and John Kassir jointly portray the two-headed leader of the giants. (Super cast, if you ask me.)
Bryan Singer (Valkyrie) will direct from a script by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). Neal Moritz (The Green Hornet) and David Dobkin (Fred Claus) will produce. McShane will next appear as Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which opens May 20.

Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker), Logan Huffman (V), and Madeleine Martin (Californication) have signed on to join Krysten Ritter (She’s Out of My League) in the indie drama Refuge. Director Jessica Goldberg adapted the script from her own play, about “a young woman, Amy, forced to care for her younger brother and sister after her parents have abandoned the family and fled to Florida for a vacation from which they will never return.”
From the age breakdown, it looks like Ritter will play Amy, Huffman and Martin will play the younger siblings, and Geraghty will play Sam, a drifter that romances Amy. Hit the jump for the synopsis for Goldberg’s play.

Production on MEN IN BLACK III Pushed Back Again

The oft-delayed production of Men in Black III just hit another bump in the road. Director Barry Sonnenfeld rolled cameras on the flick back in November, with production set to take a two-month hiatus from December to February to work on script issues, after which everyone would head back to work to finish the film up. Well, it appears that those script issues haven’t been quite cleared up yet, as production has now been moved back to March 28th.
24 Frames reports that filming on the 3D flick was set to resume this week, but producers put the kibosh on that and slated production to resume in one month’s time. Sonnefeld and company shot most of the present day-set scenes before the year was out, and were set to come back this month to roll on the time-travel scenes (involving Josh Brolin as a young Agent K), which were to have been cleaned up in a script rewrite. Warner Bros. Offers 300 Sequel XERXES to Director Guy Ritchie

In a bit of a twist, it appears that Warner Bros. has offered the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300 to director Guy Ritchie, instead of having Snyder helm the flick himself. Snyder, of course, is busy prepping his Superman film The Man of Steel right now, so it’s understandable that he’s busy. Still, most assumed that he would be taking on Xerxes after Man of Steel, or at least sometime in the future.
Vulture reports that Warner Bros. wants Snyder’s attention focused squarely on Man of Steel at the moment, as sources tell them that the story is suffering some “major third act problems” and the studio wants to get the film out as soon as possible. In addition, Vulture hears that Snyder’s upcoming Sucker Punch has not exactly been testing great. Snyder wrote the script to Xerxes, and one assumes that he would at least stay on to produce the film. Ritchie hasn’t agreed to direct the film yet, but the offer’s out to him, and WB seems to think he’s their guy, so now the ball’s in his court. Daniel Radcliffe Joins THE AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Daniel Radcliffe will star in the indie drama The Amateur Photographer. Emmy-nominated scribe Christopher Monger (HBO’s Temple Grandin) will direct the film from his own screenplay which is also, coincidentally enough, based on his own novel of the same name. Ted Hope and Anne Carey will co-produce the film, alongside Karen Montgomery, via their This Is That Prods. moniker. Per Variety, The Amateur Photographer is set in 1970’s New England and tells the story of a young man (Radcliffe) who discovers his knack for all things artistic after being recruited by the citizens of a small mill town to photograph their “most intimate moments.”
Although its elevator pitch may end on a somewhat awkward note, I’m interested in seeing how life after Harry Potter treats Radcliffe and The Amateur Photographer will seemingly constitute a small part of that. Speaking of life after Potter, Radcliffe will complete his run as the boy wizard on July 15th in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. He can also be seen in the UK horror thriller The Woman in Black which opens October 28th of this year in the UK.

You don’t want to mess the women featured on tonight’s set of posters. Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) plays a young girl trained by her ex-CIA father (Eric Bana) to be the perfect assassin in Hanna, directed by Joe Wright (Atonement). Ronan upgrades from bow and arrow on the first poster for Hanna to a cocked handgun.
The weapon technology wielded by Michelle Williams lies somewhere in between, with a shotgun pointed about three people to the left of us (phew) to promote Meek’s Cutoff. The western is set in 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail: Williams is among three families that hire Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood) to lead them on a troubled journey over the Cascade Mountains. Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy) directs.

The good news: there’s new behind the scenes footage/info from the set of The Hangover Part II. The bad news: it comes in the form of an extra splashy Entertainment Tonight piece. However, the clip is definitely worth checking out, if only for the first footage of Ken Jeong in the film. The Hangover Part II features the gang from the first flick heading over to Bangkok for Stu’s wedding (not to Heather Graham). Paul Thomas Anderson Close to Financing for His Scientology Film and an Adaptation of INHERENT VICE

If you’ve been yearning for a new Paul Thomas Anderson film like the rest of us cinephiles, we’ve got some very good news for you. It looks like billionaire heiress Megan Ellison (daughter of Oracle boss Larry Ellison) is in negotiations to co-finance not one, but two new Paul Thomas Anderson films! The writer/director had been working on a religious drama said to revolve around the founding of a Scientology-like religion tentatively titled The Master, but was getting nowhere finding financing (this is Hollywood after all; just look at the vitriol spewed at Paul Haggis following his denunciation of Scientology).
The film was set to star Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the founder of a spiritual movement called the Cause, with Jeremy Renner taking on the role of his young protégé. Vulture reports that Renner was forced to drop out of the project given his full schedule (offers started pouring in following his Oscar-nominated turn in The Hurt Locker), but Hoffman is still attached to the film. First Image of THE HOBBIT Cast

The first photo of The Hobbit cast has found its way online. With shooting on the film set to begin in New Zealand on March 21st, the image comes courtesy of a press conference in Wellington for which members of the cast assembled. Unfortunately, director Peter Jackson was unable to attend as a result of his recent medical issues. Nevertheless, Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), James Nesbitt, Richard Armitage, and William Kircher among others were present, leaving us with out first look at much of the cast (albeit not in costume).

Waiting for Forever tells the story of Will Donner (Tom Sturridge), a charismatic and carefree young man who has chosen not to follow the more traditional path of a career, in favor of the pursuit of the love he has for his childhood best friend, Emma Twist (Rachel Bilson). Will and Emma have not seen each other since they were kids, but that has not lessened his feelings for her, in any way. His quest to reconnect with her has taken him on a journey from city to city, where he always attempts to engage in conversation with her, but becomes paralyzed at the thought. Once the two finally do reunite, what initially seems a bit obsessive soon leads them both down a path of self-realization.
During the film’s press day, co-stars Rachel Bilson and Tom Sturridge talked about this unique love story, relating to their characters, learning to juggle, and the importance of childhood friends who help get you through the tough times. They also talked about their upcoming roles – Tom is in On the Road, opposite Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley, and Rachel just finished the comedy BFF & Baby, opposite Kate Bosworth and Krysten Ritter. James Cameron Says Tom Cruise Still Wants to do AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS

While doing press for the underwater thriller Sanctum, which he produced, James Cameron provided a bit of an update on Guillermo del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness, which he’s also producing. Last we heard, Cameron said they were “very very actively” pre-producing the R-rated 3D epic based on HP Lovcraft’s novella. Universal had their sights set on James McAvoy to star, but del Toro was set on Tom Cruise. Well, it looks like del Toro may get his wish. Cameron recently had this to say in an interview with MTV:“Tom [Cruise] wants to do the picture. I don’t think we have a deal with him yet, but we’re hoping to get that closed soon. Guillermo is madly working on a new draft of the script. Hopefully we’ll be shooting by June or July.”So it sounds like things are moving right along. The film will be shot in 3D and tells the story of a doomed expedition to Antarctica where “fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas” are discovered. An international trailer for director Joe Wright’s (Atonement) action/survival film Hanna is now available online. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana, the film tells the story of a 16-year-old trained assassin (Ronan) whose perpetual fleeing an intelligence agent takes her across Europe. The film’s original trailer landed on Matt’s Top 10 of 2010 list and this international trailer keeps the violent action rolling while being set against what sounds like a very cool original score from The Chemical Brothers.
