Johnny Depp May Play A Magician In Carter Beats The Devil

published: 2011-06-29 18:08:42 Author: Josh Tyler
2006 was the year of the magician, with a series of conjuror themed films battling it out in the hearts and minds of America, a battle won quite handily by Christopher Nolan’s underrated movie The Prestige. Yet even with all the magic acts on screen that year, magicians never became the new pirates. Maybe what the Penn Jillettes of this world need is Johnny Depp.

The LA Times says Johnny Depp is at the top of Warner Bros. list of actors they want to play the lead in Carter Beats the Devil. The film, currently in development at the studio, is based on a book by Glen David Gold. His novel takes a 1920s magician and puts him in a strange and mysterious situation. The story mixes in historical figures, for instance at some point the main character Charles Carter will attempt to saw then president Warren G. Harding in half.

This movie has been sitting around in development hell for awhile now, at one point even Tom Cruise was supposed to be involved. But if you’re looking for a flamboyant magician look no further than Johnny Depp. He’s your main if you’re looking for someone to play a less annoying version of David Blaine. Actually just give Jack Sparrow a top hat and you pretty much have this part cast.

For now Depp is just one of the names they’re rumored to be considering. Johnny may have his hands full with other projects. He’s currently in pre-production on The Lone Ranger and somewhere along the way he’s been filming Dark Shadows, to say nothing of the other half-dozen or so upcoming films he’s rumored to be involved in.

See Robert Pattinson Hit In The Face With A Pie For Cosmopolis

published: 2011-06-29 15:46:57 Author: Josh Tyler
Robert Pattinson has found his way into the new David Cronenberg movie somehow, uniting two fan groups once voted least likely ever to run in to each other. Cronenberg is known for challenging, violent, controversial movies like A History of Violence which are inevitably seen for very few. Robert Pattinson is known for appearing on the wall calendars of soccer moms who are far to own that kind of calendar, as a sparkly vampire.

Pattinson is currently off filming Cosmopolis with Cronenberg and in the process has fulfilled the fantasies of neither of those groups, but has instead inadvertently lived the dream of every man over fifteen who’s ever been forced to see a Twilight movie and wished someone would hit Robert Pattinson with a pie in the face. Good news, they have.

Enjoy the following Cosmopolis set photos posted as part of a group over at Movie Web.

Cosmopolis, set to be released in 2012, stars Pattinson as a wealth genius who loses everything in the midst of one, fateful limo ride across New York City. Apparently the coupe de grace is getting hit with a pie, in the face. He had it coming.

Bryan Cranston in Talks for GANGSTER SQUAD

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 29th, 2011

The beloved Bryan Cranston is in talks to star opposite Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Michael Pena, and Anthony Mackie in the period crime drama Gangster Sqad.  Will Beall (Castle) adapted the script from the LA Times’ seven-part series “Tales from the Gangster Squad,” the original title of the movie.  The articles chronicle the LAPD’s formation of the Gangster Squad in the 1940s to combat organized crime in Los Angeles.  Variety pins Cranston to the role of Max Kennard, “a laconic LAPD officer from Texas who enforces the law ambitiously.”  (Variety also refers to the movie as “The Gangster Squad,” so be prepared for a slight title adjustment if future coverage follows suit.)  Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) will direct the Warner Bros/Village Roadshow production.
Cranston is doing a splendid job parlaying is multiple Breaking Bad Emmy wins into fancy movie roles.  Larry Crowne opens this Friday, followed by Contagion (September 9) and Drive (September 16) in the fall.  2012 holds Rock of Ages, John Carter, Total Recall, and likely Red Tails.  Additionally, Cranston recently entered negotiations to star in Argo.  Time continues to pass way too slowly until season four of Breaking Bad premieres on July 17.  Cranston forever! http://collider.com/bryan-cranston-gangster-squad/99651/

Diablo Cody to Make Directorial Debut with LAMB OF GOD

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Screenwriter Diablo Cody, who won an Oscar for her debut script Juno, is ready to try her hand at directing. The scribe is poised to make her directorial debut with Lamb of God, a comedy that she also wrote. The story centers on a young conservative religious woman who, after losing her faith following a plane crash, heads to Las Vegas to “live the life of a sinner.” However, during her new life of sin, she somehow regains her faith.
Mandate Pictures acquired the screenplay, and Mason Novick (500 Days of Summer) will produce. Cody recently re-teamed with Juno director Jason Reitman for Young Adult, which stars Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt. Chris Hemsworth to Star in Sony Action Pic SHADOW RUNNER

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Perhaps impressed by the critical and financial success of his first blockbuster lead, Thor, Sony Pictures has tapped Chris Hemsworth to star in their recently acquired actioner, Shadow Runner. According to Deadline, the studio picked up the pitch for the action/thriller which is based on an idea from Drive scribe Hossein Amini who will executive produce. Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson, and Will Ward will co-produce the pic which is believed to require Hemsworth to “lead an elite team of operatives who take on impossible tasks.” Let’s hope they only seem impossible, or else moviegoers could be in for a frustrating 90 minutes.
Per the report, Amini’s original idea is inspired by a real-life event in which a 17-member team of Israeli assassins tracked and dispatched of a Hamas leader in the lobby of a five-star Dubai hotel. However, the film is not expected to mirror that event verbatim. In addition to Shadow Runner, Hemsworth also has a lead spot alongside Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1, 2012. The Thor star is currently filming The Avengers and will hopefully see his turns in the MGM back-logged films Red Dawn and Cabin in the Woods on the silver screen in the near future.

Hugh Jackman Says THE WOLVERINE Starts Filming This October

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like The Wolverine is back on track. After Darren Aronofsky dropped out as director, and natural disasters ravaged Japan (the desired shooting location) it looked like Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel might be delayed for quite some time. After an extensive director search, James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) was hired to helm the project, and now speaking with Toronto radio station CHFI (via The Playlist), Jackman stated that filming will commence this October:
“We shoot in October, so it will probably come out a year after that. That’s usually around the timeline.”
So not only is the film shooting this year, it may even hit theaters in 2012. Jackman also told the radio station that director Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) big-budget musical adaptation of Les Miserables won’t shoot until next year. Hit the jump for more. http://collider.com/hugh-jackman-the-wolverine-filming/99585/

Barry Levinson And Al Pacino Continue Bromance With Philip Roth Adaptation The Humbling
published: 2011-06-11 11:31:54 Author: Mack Rawden
Hollywood is famous for its bromances. From Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese to Ron and Clint Howard to Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, you write an itemized list that included hundreds, but that doesn't make it any less exciting when a new bromance emerges. Case in point: Barry Levinson and Al Pacino. The actor and director, aged 71 and 69, recently partnered for the Emmy-winning HBO movie You Don't Know Jack. Then Levinson convinced Pacino to join him in Gotti: Three Generations as famous mobster Aniello Delacroce. Now, they're set to adapt a Philip Roth novel to the big screen. What the hell is going to happen next weekend? Jet skiing? Rock climbing? Late night carousing?

The Philip Roth novel in question is called The Humbling, and it was released in 2009 to largely poor reviews. Exactly why Pacino and Levinson have set their sights on The Humbling is anyone's guess, but the word is Levinson himself, along with Michal Zebede and SNL favorite Buck Henry, have adapted the work and given it a bit of an overhaul. It follows an actor reeling from a string of bad stage performances. Depressed and without direction after his wife left, he begins an affair with a much younger former lesbian who acquiesces to all of his sexual fantasies.

According to Deadline, Millennium and Nu Image have prepped The Humbling for a start later this year, meaning Gotti: Three Generations will be pushed back to at least 2012. That's likely good news since the script reportedly needs a full overhaul. Until then, get excited about Al Pacino sleeping with a younger woman. Or don't. Either way, it's being filmed and will show up at the theater sometime next year.

First Clip from FRIGHT NIGHT

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: May 30th, 2011

DreamWorks has released the first clip from the horror remake Fright Night.  Colin Farrell is especially menacing in the clip as Jerry, the vampire who just moved in next door, as he describes to Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) the raw sexual appeal of his girlfriend (Imogen Poots) and mother (Toni Collette).  The way he purrs “she’s ripe” really burrows under my skin in the most unsettling way.  I’m excited to see Farrell chew his way through the scenery (fangs and all) when Fright Night hits theaters on August 19.
Christopher Mintz-Plasse and David Tennant also star in the 3D remake from director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl).  Watch the clip after the break. http://collider.com/fright-night-movie-clip/93730/

Toni Collette to Reteam with Director PJ Hogan for MENTAL

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: May 30th, 2011

Australian-born actress Toni Collette is set to reunite with fellow Aussie PJ Hogan (Confessions of a Shopaholic) for the director’s latest project Mental. The two previously worked together on the 1994 Australian comedy Muriel’s Wedding, a film that served as a breakout hit for both Collette and Hogan. Variety reports that Mental, an Australian production, will center on a family and its “crazy but charismatic nanny,” because crazy and charismatic are the most desirable traits when choosing a nanny. Hogan is penning the script, and Screen Australia will be backing the project. Collette will next be seen in the Fright Night remake, which hits theaters August 19th.

Fright Night Clip Featuring Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin

May 30, 2011 by Courtney O.
MTV has debuted the first clip from DreamWorks Pictures' Fright Night featuring stars Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin. Check out the clip below!
In the film, senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he's running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he's so cool he's even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there's something not quite right-but everyone, including Charlie's mom (Toni Collette), doesn't notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.http://www.movieweb.com/news/fright-night-clip-featuring-colin-farrell-and-anton-yelchin

The first trailer for the Sarah Jessica Parker-starred I Don’t Know How She Does It has gone online. The romantic comedy, directed by Douglas McGrath (Emma) and written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), is based on the book by Allison Pearson, which tells the story of a working mom (Parker) trying to balance the many competing elements of her life. While it doesn’t necessarily look like a home run, the trailer seems a bit more promising than your standard “Kate Hudson is crazy but no one seems to notice” fare, if only because of the fantastic cast.
Parker stars alongside Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Kelsey Grammar, Christina Hendricks, Olivia Munn, Seth Meyers and Jane Curtin. The Weinstein Company will release the flick on September 16th. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  http://collider.com/i-dont-know-how-she-does-it-trailer/93226/

Virginia Madsen and Kenan Thompson in Talks for Rob Reiner’s SUMMER AT DOG DAVE’S

by Jason Barr    Posted: May 26th, 2011

Oscar-nominee Virginia Madsen (Sideways) and SNL‘s Kenan Thompson are in the midst of negotiations to join director Rob Reiner’s (When Harry Met Sally) drama Summer at Dog Dave’s. Already starring Morgan Freeman, the film tells the story of a disabled author (Freeman) whose love of the sauce is reducing his creative output. According to Variety, Madsen would make a turn as Freeman’s new neighbor, a single-mother of three who befriends the author and inspires him to, well you can probably guess the outcome (hint: he starts writing again). As for Thompson, the report claims he is in talks to take on the role of Freeman’s “helpful nephew.” Apparently not helpful enough to help him overcome alcoholism, but helpful nonetheless. Production on Summer at Dog Dave’s is set to begin in New York this July with the film aiming for a 2012 release. http://collider.com/virginia-madsen-summer-at-dog-daves-kenan-thompson/93180/

Michael Mann to Direct GO LIKE HELL

by Adam Chitwood  Posted: May 26th, 2011

Michael Mann is close to a deal to helm 20th Century Fox’s Go Like Hell. The film is based on the book by A.J. Baime, which focuses on the 1966 battle between Ford and Ferrari when an American car won the Le Mans race for the first time in history. Baime’s story focuses on Henry Ford II, young visionary Lee Iacocca, and former racing champion turned engineer Carroll Shelby. The three worked together to reinvent the Ford company and eventually became the first Americans to win the 24-Hours of Le Mans race in France.
Showblitz reports that while no casting has begun, Brad Pitt has been considered as the lead. Mann has a number of projects that he’s considering as his next directing vehicle, including an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s Agincourt, a novel centered around the 15th century Battle of Agincourt. He’s also circling the adventure film Gold, produced by Paul Haggis. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of Baime’s Go Like Hell. http://collider.com/michael-mann-go-like-hell/93169/

The first image from David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis plus a first look at the puppet model for Gris Grimly’s Pinocchio has gone online.  Cosmopolis is based on the Don DeLillo novel about a newlywed billionaire (Robert Pattinson) who ends up losing his bride and his billions in a single day.  In addition to Pattinson, the film features an exciting cast including Jay Baruchel, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric, Kevin Durand, and Sarah Gadon.  The first image from the film was snapped by Cronenberg’s daughter Caitlin, who is a talented photographer in her own right.
The Pinocchio puppet comes from Gris Grimly and Mark Gustafson’s adaptation of Grimly’s gritty but faithful graphic novel adaptation of Carlo Colodi’s famous story.  We previously reported that Guillermo del Toro will be producing with the Jim Henson Company to turn the book into a 3D stop-motion animated feature.  The production is also working from a script by composer/screenwriter Nick Cave (The Proposition).  This puppet isn’t being used in the film, but it’s a model to show potential distributors.  Hit the jump to check out both images. http://collider.com/cosmopolis-movie-image-gris-grimly-pinocchio-image/93117/

**First Trailer for LOVE WEDDING MARRIAGE Starring Mandy Moore and Kellan Lutz **Bradley Cooper in Early Negotiations to Star in THE CROW Remake **Casting Call: Kevin Durand Joins COSMOPOLIS; Nico Tortorella in Talks for Villain Role in ODD THOMAS **Michael Mann and Paul Haggis Team Up for GOLD

Bradley Cooper in Early Negotiations to Star in THE CROW Remake

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 12th, 2011

Well that was fast. Just a week ago 28 Weeks Later director/co-writer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was tapped to helm the remake of The Crow for Relativity Media, and now Bradley Cooper is in talks to star. Heat Vision reports that Cooper met with the Spanish director in Spain recently and the two “shared a vision for the character and the film.” This flick is a “re-invention” of the 1994 film based on the James O’Barr comic which tells the story of a rock star who is murdered trying to rescue his fiancée by thugs, only to be resurrected in order to seek revenge.
Production on the film is slated to begin this fall. No screenwriter is mentioned in the report, but it’s assumed that Fresnadillo will be doing at least some script work on the film given his writing background. Cooper has been pulling off the “leading man” thing lately, and was a staple on most recent comic-book movie shortlists (he auditioned for Green Lantern). It looks like the actor may finally have his turn.

Casting Call: Kevin Durand Joins COSMOPOLIS; Nico Tortorella in Talks for Villain Role in ODD THOMAS

The story centers on a short-order cook who can commune with the dead. Anton Yelchin is set to play the protagonist, with Willem Dafoe poised to play the local police chief who is in on the cook’s secret. Heat Vision reports that Tortorella would play an officer under Dafoe’s character who is secretly “a member of a Satanic cult bent on destroying the town.” Addison Timlin is poised to play Yelchin’s girlfriend. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the book.

Michael Mann and Paul Haggis Team Up for GOLD

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 12th, 2011

Director Michael Mann is eyeing Gold as his next directing vehicle with Paul Haggis onboard as a producing partner. Said to be in the vein of Treasure of the Sierra Madre, the contemporary thriller centers on a search for, naturally, gold. Written on spec by Patrick Massett and John Zinman (TV’s Friday Night Lights), Heat Vision reports that Haggis was initially looking towards directing the film himself before deciding his plate was too full. He then brought the script to Mann, who took quite a liking to it.
Mann and Haggis will produce the film alongside Michael Nozik, with Mann looking at it as a possible directing vehicle. The three plan on developing the package before going out to studios. While no actors are attached as of yet, Mann sent the script to Leonardo DiCaprio. Mann himself has quite a few projects on the horizon as well, including an adaptation of the Bernard Cornwell novel Agincourt which centers on the 15th century battle between the English and the French.

There are currently no plot details on the flick, which is set to start filming this summer.
Maggie Grace has closed her deal to return in producer Luc Besson’s Taken 2. There was previously some hubbub over whether star Liam Neeson would reprise his role from the first film, but everything was squared away and now Deadline reports that the film is ready to go with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3). Hit the jump for the casting news of Thandie Newton starring in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, Jay Baruchel joining David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Ryan O’Nan nabbing a starring role in Freelancers.

Sofia Vergara in Talks to Join THE THREE STOOGES

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 6th, 2011

Hot off the heels of the news that the Farrelly brothers have set Will Sasso and Sean Hayes as Curly and Larry, respectively, in their long-in-the-works The Three Stooges movie comes word that actress Sofia Vergara is eying a role in the film. The Wrap reports that the actress is in talks for the role of “Lydia.”
After numerous casting changes/rumors/auditions, it looks like the Brothers Farrelly are at last nearing production on the film. With Larry and Curly cast, producers now look to Moe. Apparently Hank Azaria is the frontrunner to grab that role. The film will not be a biopic, but rather a feature-length Three Stooges movie divided into “three 27 minutes segments, driven by physical comedy.” 20th Century Fox hopes to get production started sometime this spring.

Universal Nabs Oliver Stone’s SAVAGES; Blake Lively and Teresa Palmer Join Olivia Wilde In Casting Consideration
by Jason Barr Posted: March 28th, 2011
After winning a bidding war with two other unnamed studios, Universal Pictures has landed domestic distribution rights to Oliver Stone’s adaptation of the Don Winslow novel Savages. Slated to begin shooting this June, Savages casting is still a bit of an open book as Aaron Johnson, Benicio del Toro, and Taylor Kitsch have all been offered roles in the film but are still in negotiations. Stone’s female lead is currently vacant as well with Jennifer Lawrence having to end talks after being cast in Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games.

According to Variety, both Blake Lively and Teresa Palmer have read for the part and join Olivia Wilde as potential candidates to make a turn as “O.” In Winslow’s novel, “O” is a “free-spirited friend” of Laguna Beach pot dealers, Ben and Chon. As the story goes, the dealers’ life of stoned luxury takes an unexpected turn when the Baja drug cartel kidnaps “O” in an attempt to coerce the pair to sell their product through them. **Blake Lively to Star in HICK with Chloe Moretz, Confirms She’s NOT in SEX AND THE CITY Prequel **Juliette Binoche and Mathieu Amalric Join David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS? **Summit to Release Cancer Comedy 50/50 Starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt This September

Blake Lively to Star in HICK with Chloe Moretz, Confirms She’s NOT in SEX AND THE CITY Prequel

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 17th, 2011

Since her dark turn in Ben Affleck’s The Town, Hollywood has started to see Blake Lively as more than just a pretty face, and it looks like she’ll take on yet another dark role in Hick. Adapted from the Andrea Portes novel of the same name, Hick tells the story of young Nebraska girl who runs away to Las Vegas from her neglectful parents. Derrick Martini (Lymelife) is set to direct the coming-of-age drama, with Chloe Moretz attached to star as the young girl. Lively broke the news that she’ll portray the thirteen year-old’s meth-addicted mother. Kirsten Dunst recently signed on for the project, but it’s not yet known if Livley is replacing her or if Dunst is simply playing another role in the film.
In the same interview with ITN, Lively confirmed earlier reports that she will not be playing a young Carrie Bradshaw in a Sex and the City prequel, contrary to previous rumors. Hit the jump for the synopsis of Hick.

Juliette Binoche and Mathieu Amalric Join David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS?

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 17th, 2011

The revolving door that is David Cronenberg’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis may once again be in motion. C7enma [via The Playlist] seems to think that both Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace) have joined a cast that currently features Robert Pattinson and Paul Giamatti. Although details on their prospective roles are non-existant at this time, the report does confirm that Cosmopolis is set to commence its nine-week shoot in Toronto on May 24th of this year.
For those just tuning in, Cosmopolis tells the story of a newlywed billionaire (Pattinson) who loses his entire fortune (not to mention his blushing new bride) over the course of one really bad day. Prior to Pattinson’s involvement, Colin Farrell was set to star alongside the now happily pregnant Marion Cotillard in the film. As it stands, the role of Pattinson’s wife has yet to be filled (given her age, I would be surprised to see Binoche here) although previous rumors have placed Keira Knightley in that spot. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest Cosmopolis news as it becomes available.

Summit to Release Cancer Comedy 50/50 Starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt This September

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 17th, 2011

The long talked about Seth Rogen-starred “cancer comedy”, previously called I’m With Cancer, finally has a title and a release date. Summit plans to release 50/50 on September 30th of this year. This is fantastic news (via The Wrap) given the caliber of talent of the film’s cast which includes Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Angelica Huston and Phillip Baker Hall. Based on screenwriter Will Reiser’s own experiences getting cancer in his 20’s, the film was originally set to star James McAvoy in the lead role until the actor had to bow out for personal reasons. Gordon-Levitt stepped in to take on the lead after McAvoy left. Jonathan Levin (The Wackness) directed the dramedy.

***First Image from WANDERLUST Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston ***New Featurette for THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU ***Keira Knightley May Replace Marion Cotillard in David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS

First Image from WANDERLUST Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 19th, 2011

The first image from the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced comedy Wanderlust has hit the web. Directed by David Wain (Role Models) the film tells the story of a couple who are forced to move out of their New York household when the husband loses his job. With no other options, they set out to Georgia where they plan to live with family, but along the way end up staying in a nudist commune which they mistook for a bed and breakfast.
The film stars Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Alan Alda, and Christina Hendricks. Wain co-wrote the script for the film with writing partner (and actor) Ken Marino. The two previously teamed up on the very funny Role Models, and the cult comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer (seriously, if you haven’t seen this movie, do so. Thank me later.). Hit the jump to check out the full image. Wanderlust hits theaters on October 7th. In 2D.

New Featurette for THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 19th, 2011

new featurette for Matt Damon’s upcoming romance/thriller The Adjustment Bureau has landed online.  Written and directed by George Nolfi (writer of The Bourne Ultimatum), the film is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick entitled Adjustment Team and centers on the apparently forbidden relationship between politician David Norris (Damon) and Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt).  As the story goes, the two are kept apart by a mysterious team of adjusters who claim it’s in everyone’s best interest if they go their separate ways (perhaps they’re afraid their potential children could be too attractive?).
To check out the featurette, which runs about three and a half minutes, hit the jump.  The Adjustment Bureau opens on March 4th.  In addition to Damon and Blunt, the film also stars Oscar-nominee Terence Stamp (for 1962’s Billy Budd), John Slattery (Mad Men), and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker).
Here’s the featurette [from Moviefone]:
Here’s the synopsis for The Adjustment Bureau:
Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us?  Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else.  To get it, he must pursue the only woman he’s ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.
On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt)—a woman like none he’s ever known.  But just as he realizes he’s falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart.
David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself—the men of The Adjustment Bureau—who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together.  In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path…or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.
The Adjustment Bureau is written for the screen and directed by George Nolfi (writer of Ocean’s Twelve, co-writer of The Bourne Ultimatum).  It is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (“Total Recall,” “Minority Report” and “Blade Runner”).

Keira Knightley May Replace Marion Cotillard in David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 19th, 2011

It looks as if David Cronenberg’s film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel Cosmopolis is becoming somewhat of a revolving door.  A few weeks ago we reported that Robert Pattinson had signed on to star in the film, bringing to an untimely end Cosmopolis’ Colin Farrell-era.  Fast-forward to today and we’re hearing reports that Keira Knightley may be taking on the film’s female lead, replacing Marion Cotillard in the process.
Kudos to The Playlist for connecting the dots provided by the Cosmopolis fansite which points out that the film’s production company (Alfama Films) now lists Knightley as starring in the project.  Knightley recently worked with Cronenberg on A Dangerous Method so perhaps the two developed a rapport that would make this potential move a little less “from left-field.”  Of course, we’ll bring you confirmation on the matter as soon as we have it.  Cosmopolis is currently scheduled to begin shooting in Toronto around mid-May.  For more, hit the jump to check out a synopsis of DeLillo’s novel.
Here’s a plot summary for Delillo’s Cosmopolis [from Wikipedia]:
Cosmopolis is the story of Eric Packer, a 28 year old multi-billionaire asset manager who makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut. The stretch limo which adorns the cover of the book is richly described as highly technical and very luxurious, filled with television screens and computer monitors, bulletproofed and floored with Carrara marble. It is also cork lined to eliminate (though unsuccessfully, Packer notes) the intrusion of street noise.
Like James Joyce’s Ulysses, Cosmopolis covers roughly one day of time and includes highly sexed women and the theme of father-son separation. Packer’s voyage is obstructed by various traffic jams caused by a presidential visit to the city, a funeral procession for a Sufi rap star and a full-fledged riot. Along the way, the hero has several chance meetings with his wife, seeing her in a taxi, a bookstore, and lying naked in the street, taking part in a movie as an extra. Meanwhile, Packer is stalked by two men, a comical “pastry assassin” and an unstable “credible threat”.
Through the course of the day, the protagonist loses incredible amounts of money for his clients by betting against the rise of the yen, a loss that parallels his own fall. Packer seems to relish being unburdened by the loss of so much money, even stopping to make sure he loses his wife’s fortune as well, to ensure his ruin is inevitable.
