by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 6th, 2011

Director James Marsh may have earned an Oscar for his documentary Man on Wire, but he’s no stranger to narrative features.  He previously directed The King starring Gael Garcia Bernal and the crime drama Red Riding 1980Vulture now reports that he’s got another fiction film up his sleeve and that Clive Owen is attached to star.  Marsh tells Vulture that his new film “is much more like Red Riding, it’s a genre film, it’s a thriller.”

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, it looks like Penelope Cruz is set to re-team with director Woody Allen. The actress won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona and now EW reports that she’s set to work with the director again, presumably on his next film that is set in Rome. There are currently no plot details on the flick, which is set to start filming this summer.
Maggie Grace has closed her deal to return in producer Luc Besson’s Taken 2. There was previously some hubbub over whether star Liam Neeson would reprise his role from the first film, but everything was squared away and now Deadline reports that the film is ready to go with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3). Hit the jump for the casting news of Thandie Newton starring in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, Jay Baruchel joining David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Ryan O’Nan nabbing a starring role in Freelancers.

Sofia Vergara in Talks to Join THE THREE STOOGES

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 6th, 2011

Hot off the heels of the news that the Farrelly brothers have set Will Sasso and Sean Hayes as Curly and Larry, respectively, in their long-in-the-works The Three Stooges movie comes word that actress Sofia Vergara is eying a role in the film. The Wrap reports that the actress is in talks for the role of “Lydia.”
After numerous casting changes/rumors/auditions, it looks like the Brothers Farrelly are at last nearing production on the film. With Larry and Curly cast, producers now look to Moe. Apparently Hank Azaria is the frontrunner to grab that role. The film will not be a biopic, but rather a feature-length Three Stooges movie divided into “three 27 minutes segments, driven by physical comedy.” 20th Century Fox hopes to get production started sometime this spring.

Aaron Johnson Offered Lead in Oliver Stone’s SAVAGES; Johnson and Jude Law in Talks for Joe Wright’s ANNA KARENINA
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 17th, 2011
Quickly becoming one of the most sought-after young actors at the moment, Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) has been offered the lead role in two high-profile projects. First up, Deadline reports that Johnson is mulling over one of the two lead roles in director Oliver Stone’s adaptation of the Don Winslow novel Savages. The flick tells the story of two pot-growers whose shared girlfriend gets kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel. Jennifer Lawrence was in talks to take on the role of the girlfriend, but her attachment to The Hunger Games throws her involvement into jeopardy given that both flicks will be shooting this summer.

Variety reports that Johnson and Jude Law are in talks to star in director Joe Wright’s (Atonement) adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic tragic love story Anna Karenina. Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) wrote the screenplay and Keira Knightley is set to star. Anna Karenina will shoot this fall, so Johnson could feasibly do both films. Hit the jump for a synopsis of both novels.

While promoting his "I Am Number Four" overseas, director DJ Caruso confirmed that he's working on the big screen adaptation of the "Preacher" comic book, revealing his dream cast.

Caruso wants Chris Pine (Star Trek) to play Jesse Custer, Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) to play Arseface and Alex Pettyfer (Beastly) to play the Saint of Killers. Caruso previously worked with LaBeouf on "Disturbia" and "Eagle Eye," and with Pettyfer on "I Am Number Four."

Posted: March 17th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

We just learned that 20th Century Fox is in negotiations with David Slade (30 Days of Night) to direct the studios upcoming "Daredevil" reboot, which will not be ignoring the events in Ben Affleck's 2003 film.

The new movie will not be Slade's next helming gig; he's currently setting up "The Last Voyage of Demeter." So while there's still time to put the project together, Moviehole is reporting that Slade has already had conversation with his "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" star Robert Pattinson to play the lead role.

As far as the story, the site says: "It's a bit 'Batman Begins.' The bad guy will learn who Daredevil really is and tries to destroy him – but not via the usual methods."

Mickey Rourke Almost Replaced Liam Neeson in "Taken 2"
Posted: March 17th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Deadline has learned that producer Luc Besson was considering replacing Liam Neeson in the "Taken" sequel due to the actor's request to take some time off from acting. But who could replace Neeson? Apparently Besson's list included such names as Mickey Rourke, Ralph Fiennes, Ray Winstone, Sean Bean and Jason Isaacs.

The good news is that Besson and Neeson recently got together and worked out a plan that satisfies both of them. Neeson will get to take a break and production will begin at the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012.

"Taken 2" is written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen (Transporter, The Karate Kid), and will be directed by "Transporter 3" helmer Olivier Megaton.

Wes Craven Talks More Scream Sequels, Plus Scream 4 Viral Site

Wes Craven says he is down for two more sequelsA new fan-created, viral site has cropped up for Scream 4: WoodsboroHighSchool.com, which is centered around the old school of Sidney Prescott in the fictional Woodsboro. The site is set up like the school's website that has been hacked, littered with easter eggs, although I wonder if it really is a school's site that has been hacked.

Also, in the latest issue of Total Film (via Scream-Trilogy) Wes Craven was asked if there are any more Screams to come after Scream 4:

"When I initially met with Kevin Williamson, he sketched out what the next two would be, and I found it really fascinating," he concludes. "A lot depends on whether they come up with scripts to flesh out. But certainly, I'm up for it, if the script is there. It's a fascinating thing to do two trilogies in a career."

Scream 4 comes to theaters April 15th, 2011 and stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Emma Roberts, Ashley Greene, Nico Tortorella. The film is directed by Wes Craven.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Joins Upstate

Philip Seymour Hoffman to executive produce the HBO series Upstate
Philip Seymour Hoffman is on board to produce the new TV drama Upstate, a project we exclusively broke the news on in January. While Philip Seymour Hoffman will executive produce the new HBO series, it isn't clear if he will star in the project.

The story centers on a prison guard named Roy who lands a new job, relocating his family to a town that has been built around a for-profit prison facility. Robert Glaudini and Brett C. Leonard (Hung) wrote the pilot script. Emily Ziff will also serve as executive producer alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robert Glaudini, and Brett C. Leonard.

Philip Seymour Hoffman will reunite with Robert Glaudini once again on this project. Robert Glaudini wrote the stage play for Jack Goes Boating and the screenplay for the movie version, both of which featured Philip Seymour Hoffman as the title character. Philip Seymour Hoffman also made his directorial debut with the movie version of Jack Goes Boating.

We spoke with Robert Glaudini back in January, when he was promoting the Blu-ray and DVD release of Jack Goes Boating. Here's what he had to say about Upstate back then.

"Upstate is the story of the community that develops around a private prison, which is run for profit. In other words, the prison is built and as people work there and as the economy improves in that immediate area, a suburban community develops around this industry. It will not be an upstairs-downstairs story. The main characters are a correctional officer, his wife and his two kids. It will be about how the job impacts his family and other families in the community. We're kind of excited about it. We think it could make a great story."

No production schedule was given for Upstate at this time.
