Looper Is Most Important Film of My Career Says Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Apr 17, 2011 by B. Alan Orange
Joseph Gordon-Levitt calls Looper most important film of his careerLooper is a sci-fi time travel thriller that finds a group of hit men traveling into the past to kill their victims before they can commit their crimes. We haven't heard much about the movie at this point. Now, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, while promoting Inception in Shanghai, has called Looper, perhaps, the most important film of his career.

Here is what Joseph Gordon-Levitt had to say about Looper.

"I feel now, doing 'Looper,' is the result of what happened with 'Inception.' It is something I have been working for my whole life. It is like nothing I have seen before. It has action. It has romance. It also deals with philosophy. I really like it."

Looper comes to theaters in 2011 and stars Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo. The film is directed by Rian Johnson.

First Look at Ewan McGregor and Eddie Marsan in Byran Singer’s JACK THE GIANT KILLER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 15th, 2011

Cameras have started rolling on Bryan Singer’s upcoming 3D action-adventure flick Jack the Giant Killer and the first images from the set have gone online.  For those unfamiliar with the project, the story is a reimagining of “Jack and the Beanstalk” and stars Nicholas Hoult (A Single Man) as the titular hero who leads an expedition to free a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) taken hostage by a giant, a situation that threatens the uneasy peace between humans and giants.  The film’s impressive cast also includes Ewan McGregor, Eddie Marsan, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy.

New Posters for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES and ABDUCTION

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 15th, 2011

pirates-4-abduction-posters-slice
New posters have been released for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Abduction.  The Pirates poster is basically a reprint of a previous poster but this one lets you know that the movie will be in IMAX 3D, or as the poster puts it: “IMA-[Pirates of the Caribbean logo] 3D,” which is really the best kind of 3D.
As for the Abduction poster, it gives you a very strong indication of the final film in that it shows you the single facial expression Taylor Lautner will have for the movie’s full runtime.  I watched the trailer yesterday and I struggled to believe that I ever liked him in parts of New Moon.
Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens May 20th.  Abduction gets released on September 23rd.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  We Need to Talk about Kevin will play in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 11 – 22nd.  Click here and here for our interviews with Swinton and Reilly where they talk about the movie.

**DEXTER Creator to Helm LOVE, SCOTCH AND DEATH Starring Michael C. Hall and Vera Farmiga **Drew Barrymore Talks Next Directorial Project HOW TO BE SINGLE **First Trailer for ABDUCTION Starring Taylor Lautner **Olga Kurylenko and Liana Liberato Join Aaron Eckhart in THE EXPATRIATE

DEXTER Creator to Helm LOVE, SCOTCH AND DEATH Starring Michael C. Hall and Vera Farmiga
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 13th, 2011
James Manos Jr., who created the Showtime series Dexter, is poised to make his feature directorial debut with Love, Scotch and Death. The semi-autobiographical film was written by Manos and will star Michael C. Hall and Vera Farmiga. Deadline reports that the story follows a very strange week in the protagonist’s life. Hall’s character returns home from a stressful vacation to find out that his parents have died, leading him on a bizarre path where he encounters “an unsympathetic funeral director, his bewildered children and manic wife, an eccentric priest, and some over-sexed neighbors.”

Filming is scheduled to begin on the independent film this November, after Hall wraps the latest season of Dexter. Manos previously wrote for The Sopranos, winning an Emmy for co-writing the classic first season episode “College.”

Drew Barrymore Talks Next Directorial Project HOW TO BE SINGLE
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 13th, 2011
Drew Barrymore is poised to make her second feature as a director (after 2009’s Whip It) with the adaptation of Liz Tuccillo’s novel How to Be Single. The romantic comedy follows the “love lives and break-ups of a group of New Yorkers over the span of ten years.” Barrymore recently spoke a bit about the project:

“This has a very wide palette that I really really like. I’m so interested in so many different types of people and lifestyles that there is kind of a lovely mosaic, like a little bit for everybody.”

The screenwriting team from He’s Just Not That Into You, Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, are set to script the film. Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen (who also produced He’s Just Not That Into You) will produce. Hit the jump for more from Barrymore, including why How to Be Single is not really a romantic comedy, and a synopsis of the novel.

First Trailer for ABDUCTION Starring Taylor Lautner
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 13th, 2011
The first trailer for the action thriller Abduction, starring Taylor Lautner, has been released. Directed by John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood) the thriller centers around a young man who sets out to uncover the truth after finding a baby photo of himself listed on a missing persons website. While Lautner’s acting still seems a bit too ham-fisted to be taken seriously, the supporting cast is fairly impressive and some of the action sequences actually looked pretty cool. I understand Lautner’s desire to move on to bigger and better things post-Twilight, but the guy’s no Tom Cruise.

Abduction stars Lautner, Lily Collins, Sigourney Weaver, Danny Glover, Alfred Molina, Michael Nyqvist, Maria Bello, and Jason Isaacs. The film is set to be released on September 23rd. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

Olga Kurylenko and Liana Liberato Join Aaron Eckhart in THE EXPATRIATE
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: April 13th, 2011
Since he was first cast in the spy thriller The Expatriate last November, Aaron Eckhart has become a bona fide action star thanks to Battle: Los Angeles ($105 million worldwide and counting). Appropriately, Eckhart will be awarded his own Bond girl for his follow-up. Variety reports Quantum of Solace siren Olga Kurylenko will play “a CIA agent assigned to track down her former CIA partner and lover (Eckhart).” Additionally, Liana Liberato (Trust) has been cast as Eckhart’s daughter. Director Philipp Stölzl is currently filming The Expatriate in Montreal; production will shift to Brussels in May.

New Image of Ian McShane as Blackbeard in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 21st, 2011

Arrrggghhh!!! May is fast approaching and that means that the latest installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is merely months away from release (and millions upon millions upon millions of dollars, of course).  Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides hits theaters on May 20th in 3D, and a new image from the flick has hit the net. This one gives us a good look at new villain Blackbeard, played by Ian McShane in a pitch-perfect casting move. As you can see, the filmmakers really want you to know that this is 3D, so Blackbeard conveniently points his sword toward the camera.
The fourth film in the franchise is helmed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and stars McShane, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Keith Richards.  In this adventure, Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow sets out to find the Fountain of Youth, but obviously runs into a bit of trouble along the way. Hit the jump to check out the full image.

Greg Kinnear and Jane Curtin are the latest additions to the adaptation of Allison Pearson’s novel I Don’t Know How She Does It.  The current cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Bronsnan and Kelsey Grammar, as well as recent additions Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Olivia Munn (The Daily Show), and Seth Meyers (SNL). Douglas McGrath (Infamous) directs from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada).
I Don’t Know How She Does It tells the story of a working mom (Parker) trying to balance the many competing elements of her life. Variety reports that Kinnear will play Parker’s husband, while Curtin will take on the role of Kinnear’s mother. The Weinstein Company will produce.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Pearson’s novel.
Here’s the synopsis of I Don’t Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson:
Meet Kate Reddy, hedge-fund manager and mother of two. She can juggle nine different currencies in five different time zones and get herself and two children washed and dressed and out of the house in half an hour. In Kate’s life, Everything Goes Perfectly as long as Everything Goes Perfectly. She lies to her own mother about how much time she spends with her kids; practices pelvic floor squeezes in the boardroom; applies tips from Toddler Taming to soothe her irascible boss; uses her cell phone in the office bathroom to procure a hamster for her daughter’s birthday (“Any working mother who says she doesn’t bribe her kids can add Liar to her résumé”); and cries into the laundry hamper when she misses her children’s bedtime. Teen-actor-turned-hip-hop-star Drake may soon be returning to his former profession.  The former Degrassi: The Next Generation star is currently in talks to join writer/director Nicholas Jarecki’s (The Informers) financial thriller Arbitrage.  If the deal goes through, Drake (whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham) would join a solid cast that already features Eva Green and Susan Sarandon.
According to TheWrap, Arbitrage will center on a hedge fund magnate who is “desperate to complete the sale of his shady trading empire before his fraud is revealed.”  As the story goes, an unexpected turn of events causes him to look for help from an unlikely source.  The film is currently scheduled to begin shooting this March in New York.  As for Drake, he has a previous film credit due to a minor role in 2007’s Charlie Bartlett.
