Amy Adams and Lena Endre Join Paul Thomas Anderson’s Untitled Religious Drama

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 1st, 2011

Last month, we reported that in addition to Joaquin Phoenix signing on to star opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled religious drama, actresses Madisen Beaty (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Amy Adams, Lena Endre (2009′s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Laura Dern were also circling the project.  Earlier this week, we reported that Dern was on board (along with Jesse Plemons and David Warshofsky) and now we’ve learned that Endre and Adams have also joined the flick.  The Playlist reports that Endre’s role is currently unknown while Deadline is reporting that Adams will play the wife of Hoffman’s character, Lancaster Dodd.
The story is set in the 1950s and centers on Dodd, a World War II veteran, who starts a new religion after being haunted by the horrors of battle.  He then takes in an alcoholic drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man.  Earlier drafts of the script heavily implied that the movie was based on L. Ron Hubbard and the founding of the Church of Scientology, but that aspect may have been reduced in later drafts.  I’m not familiar with Endre’s work, but I’m a huge fan of Adams and this cast continues to impress. http://collider.com/amy-adams-lena-endre-paul-thomas-anderson-religious-drama/94053/

David Fincher Options Crime Novel PANIC ATTACK

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 1st, 2011

David Fincher is panicking.  He previously directed Panic Room, he recently set up the company Panic Pictures (which is under Media Rights Capital), and now he’s optioned the rights to Jason Starr’s 2009 crime novel Panic Attack.  Per Vulture, the book is “about a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.”  Starr says about his book, “And the thing about Panic Attack is that there’s a really compelling antihero in this guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family].  He’s a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath.”  Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) will write the script.
While Fincher has picked up the option, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s directing.  He could simply be serving as a producer as he’s doing on the potential adaptation of the comic book series The Goon.  Hit the jump for a list of Fincher’s other upcoming potential projects as well as the official synopsis of the novel. http://collider.com/david-fincher-panic-attack/94049/

New Images from TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

A few new images from Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon have hit the net.  As most of you know, I’ve seen a lot of footage from the 3rd installment and everything is telling me that Bay has made something special and it’s going to be a huge improvement over Revenge of the Fallen.  Also, unlike a lot of filmmakers that don’t know how to use 3D, Bay is using 3D to help tell the story.  I think TF3 will be the best looking live action 3D movie since Avatar.  Hit the jump for new images of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Josh Duhamel and Michael Bay.

Second Horrible Bosses Trailer and Clip

Jun 2, 2011 by Courtney O.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a second trailer and the first clip from director Seth Gordon's Horrible Bosses, which comes to theaters July 8. Check out the clips below!
In the film, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable for Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) would be to grind their intolerable bosses (Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston) into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con (Jamie Foxx), the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Fright Night 2 Being Planned, May Star David Tennant And McLovin

published: 2011-06-01 13:51:35 Author: Josh Tyler
Director Craig Gillespie’s remake of Fright Night won’t be out till August, but if any of what we saw during out visit behind the scenes pans out, there’s a chance that this particular redo could be really good. Apparently DreamWorks agrees, because internally at least, they’re already talking sequel.

The original 1985 movie got a sequel too, in the form of 1988’s not particularly well remembered Fright Night Part 2. That movie didn’t really pick up where the original left off, but we hear that this new sequel, if it happens, will be a direct sequel to the remake. To do that, they’ll have to abandon most of the cast (for spoilery reasons, if you’ve seen the original Fright Night you know why) and instead of having the sequel star Anton Yelchin and Colin Ferrell, Fright Night 2 will star David Tennant with a little help from Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

In the current Fright Night Tennant is set to play Vegas magician Peter Vincent. Vincent is set to be more of a side character in the remake, a performer who specializes in horror-themed tricks. But since he’s played by the infinitely awesome former Doctor David Tennant, don’t be surprised if he ends up stealing scenes. Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse on the other hand, is a best friend character named Evil Ed.

Our source tells us that DreamWorks is considering turning the franchise over to David Tennant for Fright Night 2. The followup would take place in a new city where Peter Vincent not only has to deal with vampires, but potentially other unexpected problems. Evil Ed wouldn’t be the movie’s villain, they’d go another direction, but Evil Ed will be in it.

Doctor Who fans should be elated at the prospect of David Tennant finally getting his due with a starring role in a major studio project, but for now everything hinges on how audiences respond to the remake. The sequel is being discussed internally, Craig Gillespie might even be back in the director’s chair for the second one, but nothing will be set in motion until the Fright Night remake hits theaters and either gets a thumbs up or thumbs down from the crowds. Until then, file this under rumor.

True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld Could Be The New Carrie

published: 2011-06-01 13:26:31 Author: Josh Tyler
Hailee Steinfeld was widely praised for her work as Mattie Ross in True Grit last year. Normally that kind of acclaim results in having your name attached to every age-appropriate project circulating in Hollywood, but somehow that hasn’t happened for Hailee. She’s doing a Romeo & Juliet movie, but that’s been it. Until now, when we're hearing that she may star in the impending remake of Stephen King’s Carrie.

The remake is in development right now, with a script being written by the guy who wrote a comic book adaptation of King’s The Stand. Megan Fox has been lobbying to play Carrie, but let’s face it, no one actually believes she’ll get it, or if she did that she’d be any good at it. Hailee Steinfeld on the other hand, would be perfect.

Word of her potential involvement comes from one of our most proven sources. We hear that Carrie’s producers are eyeing Hailee Steinfeld as a top candidate for the part of the tormented high school girl played by Sissy Spacek in the original. That doesn’t mean, of course, that Hailee has it… or even wants it. The script is still being written and they won’t make any decisions until it’s done, nor are the film’s producers likely to confirm which direction they’re leaning. For now just consider Hailee as a possibility, a really good kind of possibility. Hire Steinfeld as Carrie and we’ll all have a good reason to get interested in this remake.

Jennifer Aniston: New 'Horrible Bosses' Trailer!
Jennifer Aniston holds a patient’s hand on her breast in the just released second trailer for Horrible Bosses.
The original trailer for the film featured the 42-year-old actress in lingerie taking suggestive bites into a banana and an ice pop!
Horrible Bosses is about three men (Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, and Jason Sudeikis) who are all treated horribly by their bosses (Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey) and use advice from an ex con (Jamie Foxx) to conspire a plan to kill them.

Megan Fox Wants to Star in "Carrie" Remake

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

It was recently revealed that MGM hired Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Big Love," "Glee") to write the script for the upcoming "Carrie" remake, based on a Stephen King novel.

After the announcement, King mentioned that the casting process will be very interesting, naming Lindsay Lohan as someone who could play the role. Now comes word that Megan Fox is interested in playing Carrie.

"Megan is a huge fan of the original and would love the chance to play the lead," said a source close to the actress. "She's 25 now but she's sure she could still do justice to teenage Carrie. She's told her people to make it happen."

Question: Is Megan Fox right for the role?

Ashton Kutcher's "Two and a Half Men" Contract is For Only 1 Year

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

After an extensive search for Charlie Sheen's replacement on "Two and a Half Men," CBS eventually decided to cast Ashton Kutcher. Now comes word that the actor has only been signed for one year.

The problem is that CBS has licensed the show for only one additional year. If the network decides to renew it for a second year, Kutcher will once again have to negotiate his deal, likely getting even more. On the other hand, the network could simply cancel the show or re-cast Kutcher.

Sources claim that CBS is only looking to extend "Two and a Half Men" for two or three more years before calling quits for good. By bringing Kutcher at $750,000 per episode ($20 million per season), the network is saving money. Since Sheen was also a producer on the show, he was earning a whopping $2 million per episode. But whether fans will tune into a Sheen-less "Two and a Half Men" is yet to be seen.

THE TREE OF LIFE Wins the Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Festival
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 22nd, 2011 at 3:02 pm

The 2011 Cannes Film Festival award winners were announced today, and I’m excited about just how many are already set for American distribution. Despite mixed (yet still reverent) buzz for Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life took home the Palme d’Or (Cannes’ top honor) before it hits theaters on May 27. Likewise, Kirsten Dunst overcame the controversy Lars Von Trier inflicted on Melancholia to win Best Actress; Magnolia acquired the film in February. Nicolas Winding Refn won Best Director for Drive, scheduled for release on September 16 courtesy of FilmDistrict. Jean Dujardin won Best Actor for his role in The Artist — you wouldn’t expect a silent black-and-white French film to be a hot commodity, but The Weinstein Company picked up The Artist for release later this year. And Sundance Selects will bring us The Kid with a Bike, the latest from the Dardenne brothers, after it tied with Once Upon a Time in Anatolia for the Grand Prix (the runner-up prize to the Palme d’Or).

It sounds like a good year for Cannes, yielding a bountiful crop that we’ll all be able to experience soon enough. Hit the jump for the full list of winners.

 "Bridesmaids" Sequel Being Considered
Posted: May 22nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Now that the $33 million "Bridesmaids" has already grossed $44 million in just 8 days, NY Mag caught up with director Paul Feig and actress Melissa McCarthy to find out if a sequel is being planned.

"It depends how we do in the next couple weeks, but I know it's already been brought up," said Feig. "When you get a group that's this deep and this good, it's a crime to not use them again. You just want to make sure that you do it as well as you did the first one and try to make it better. So, we're up for the challenge."

McCarthy added: "I will show up wherever these guys tell me to go. I'm in."

Carrie Remake? Stephen King Asks, Why?

Author Stephen King reacts to the news of a Carrie remakeOne of the big news items yesterday was that MGM is moving forward on a remake of the 1976 horror classic Carrie, with playwright/screenwriter Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa coming aboard to write the script. Author Stephen King recently spoke out against the remake, mainly since he's so fond of the original movie, which was directed by Brian De Palma. Take a look at what he had to say below, including his intriguing casting suggestion of Lindsay Lohan to play the title character, and who he would like to see direct.

"I've heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and IT. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White... hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the David's: Lynch or Cronenberg."

The Carrie remake is still in very early stages and, like Stephen King says, "who knows if it will happen?" However, our original report from yesterday indicated MGM and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa want to be more faithful to Stephen King's novel than the original movie, so perhaps the author might get behind this project after all. We'll just have to wait and see.

Carrie was released November 3rd, 1976 and stars Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, Betty Buckley, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, P.J. Soles. The film is directed by Brian De Palma.

New Images and Cringe-Worthy Clip from THIS MUST BE THE PLACE Starring Sean Penn

Watching the first clip from the upcoming drama This Must Be the Place, I can’t help but think that star Sean Penn was re-watching I Am Sam and though to himself, “Yeah, I can top that.”  So instead of going full-retard, Penn is going full old-rock-star parody.  We’ve already seen his Robert Smith-inspired attire, but wait until you hear how Penn decides to deliver dialogue.  It sounds like a cross between a nerdy teenager and present-day Ozzy Osbourne.  It’s awful and I can’t tell if co-star Frances McDormand is embarrassed or just trying really hard not to laugh.
Oh, for those that don’t know about the plot, it’s about an aged rock star who decides to follow in his late father’s footsteps and become a Nazi hunter.  I’m not making that up.  Hit the jump to check out new images from the film along with the glorious clip.  This Must Be the Place also stars newcomer Eve Newsome as a gothic-punk music fan who is close friends with Penn’s character, Cheyenne.

First Image of Tom Hardy as Bane in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; Viral Campaign Launches

On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that filming had commenced on The Dark Knight Rises, we now have learned that the film’s viral campaign has begun.  You may recall that the alternate-reality game (ARG) for The Dark Knight was fairly epic and resulted in fun treasure hunts, deciphering, and ultimately tickets to see the film early.  TDKR is over a year away, but viral marketing waits for no one!  Today, the official website (thedarkknightrises.com) launched and had two interesting aspects.  First up, the audio on the website is some weird chanting (The League of Shadows? A poor recording of the 1994 album “Chant”?).  Secondly, every time someone tweets the hashtag #thefirerises, a new image appears on this site. The tiny image is your Twitter profile pic, but they’re being arranged and contrasted in such a way as to show a larger image.  Some smart folks went digging through the source code and uncovered the image being built was the first image of Tom Hardy as Bane.  I suppose a more appropriate hashtag is now “#viralthwarted”.
Hit the jump to check out the image. The Dark Knight Rises also stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine.  It opens July 20, 2012. [We have now updated the image with a high-resolution version]

First Look: Tom Hardy as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises"

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros has launched the official viral marketing campaign for "The Dark Knight Rises." By going to the site (TheDarkKnightRises.com), you'll see a blank page with audio of people chanting something.

Using an audio program, a person figured out that the chanting spells out "#TheFireRises," which is obviously a Twitter account. Going to the Twitter page (Twitter.com/#TheFireRises) contains a link to a page on the original site ....

After digging through the code, a hi-res image of Tom Hardy as Bane is revealed. Check out the photo below.

Stephen King Talks About "Carrie" Remake

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

It was just reported that "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been hired to write the script for the "Carrie" remake, based on a Stephen King novel.

Entertainment Weekly now caught up with King to get his thoughts on the new film. "I've heard rumblings about a 'Carrie' remake, as I have about 'The Stand' and 'It.' Who knows if it will happen," said the author. "The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not 'Casablanca,' or anything, but a really good horror/suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White... hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg."

King feels that the movie was better than the book. That's not good since Aguirre-Scasa is planning to make the remake more faithful to the book.

Forest Whitaker Working on "Waiting to Exhale" Sequel

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Back in 1995, Forest Whitaker directed "Waiting to Exhale," based on a novel by Terry McMillan. The film went on to gross $81 million. And now comes word that a sequel is in the works.

"It's preliminary, but it's gonna happen," Angela Bassett confirmed on CBS show "The Talk." "[McMillan] wrote 'Getting to Happy' and she has written the screenplay. Loretta [Devine], Lela [Rochon], Whitney [Houston], Forest [will be back]. Forest is working on the script now."

While most of the actors are available to reprise their roles, Whitney Houston just entered rehab for drug and alcohol treatment. And Gregory Hines passed away back in 2003.
