New Trailer and Images for KILLER ELITE Starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro

Open Road Films has released new images and the first trailer for the Jason Statham actioner Killer Elite.  It has everything a man could want: guns, explosions, a bikini butt closeup, “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” Clive Owen’s mustache… the list goes on.  I kid, mostly — the trailer is a blast.  Killer Elite looks like a treat for fans of pure action.
Statham plays an ex-special ops agent lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor, played by Robert De Niro: “To make the rescue, he must complete a near-impossible mission of killing three tough-as-nails assassins with a cunning leader (Owen).”  Yvonne Strahovski and Dominic Purcell also star.  Directed by Gary McKendry, Killer Elite hits theaters on September 23.  Hit the jump for the trailer and images.  http://collider.com/killer-elite-trailer-images/98180/

Viggo Mortensen to Star in THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY, the Directorial Debut of Hossein Amini

Viggo Mortensen passed on Snow White and the Huntsman right around the time Hossein Amini entered negotiations to rewrite the script.  I suspect their paths crossed, as in the months since, Amini and Mortensen teamed to develop an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s The Two Faces of January.  The 1964 novel is a suspense thriller that centers on an American con artist, his wife, and a stranger in travelling in Athens.  A source tells 24 Frames Mortensen would assume one of the three starring roles, and this is intended to be the directorial debut of Amini.
Amini wields a powerful calling card right now with Drive — by all accounts from Cannes and LAFF, Drive is amazing.  We peons only have to wait three months for the September 16 theatrical release.  Cronenberg will next be seen playing Sigmund Freud in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, assuming it gets the late 2011 release we expect.  The first trailer, released yesterday, is wonderfully deranged.

Tom Wilkinson in Talks to Join THE LONE RANGER

Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) is in talks to join Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Per Variety, the two-time Oscar nominee would take on the “prominent” role of a railroad tycoon. If the deal goes through, Wilkinson would join a cast that already includes Armie Hammer in the title slot and Johnny Depp as his sidekick, Tonto. Gore Verbinski (Rango) is directing the pic which is scheduled to begin shooting after Depp finishes Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows adaptation and Hammer wraps Tarsem Singh’s (Immortals) untitled Snow White pic alongside Julia Roberts.

The Lone Ranger script comes courtesy of Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). In addition to his potential role in Lone Ranger, the usually excellent Wilkinson can next be seen alongside Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington in director John Madden’s (Shakespeare in Love) drama/thriller The Debt which is due out on August 31st. The thesp also signed on to join Samuel L. Jackson in the indie thriller The Samaritan back in April.

Emma Stone Offered Lead in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES

After testing the waters with Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, and Scarlett Johansson, Lionsgate has offered the female lead in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to Emma Stone. Heat Vision reports on the offer to play Elizabeth Bennet, a zombie-killing heroine who sees her quest to save England from the undead made more difficult by the arrival of Fitzwilliam Darcy. The role was originally filled by Natalie Portman and has been vacant since the Oscar-winning actress decided to act solely in a producing capacity on the pic. Craig Gillespie (Fright Night remake) will direct Pride from an updated script by Fright Night scribe Marti Noxon.

If Stone accepts Lionsgate’s offer, Pride would be another high-profile pic for the actress who recently wrapped director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Jamie Foxx Confirmed for Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

Earlier today, we reported on the tweet rumor that Jamie Foxx had landed the title role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Django Unchained. We now have confirmation on the matter as Variety reports that Foxx will indeed star in the pic alongside Leonard DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and most likely Samuel L. Jackson as well. As has been well documented, Tarantino originally offered the surefire controversial part to Will Smith. After Smith passed, the writer/director met with Idris Elba, Terrence Howard, and Chris Tucker before offering the gig to Foxx.

For those unaware, Django Unchained centers on a freed slave (Foxx) who joins forces with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) as part of a plan to save the former’s love from an evil plantation owner (DiCaprio). The film is slated to hit theaters on December 25th, 2012. As for Foxx, the Oscar-winner can next be seen alongside Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day in the comedy Horrible Bosses opening July 8th.

New Posters for PUSS IN BOOTS and CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE

New posters for Puss in Boots and Crazy, Stupid, Love have been released today. A spinoff of the Shrek franchise, Puss in Boots features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Zach Galifianakis. Guillermo del Toro serves as a consultant on the film, and when Steve saw some footage earlier this year he was very impressed. The poster for Puss in Boots features a cat walking away from an explosion, so it’s automatically better than any other poster ever. The film opens in 3D on November 4^th.
A poster for the dramedy Crazy, Stupid, Love has also been released. Steve Carell stars as a man still reeling from his divorce when he begins taking advice from a ladies man played by Ryan Gosling. In addition to Carell and Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon also star. Crazy, Stupid, Love hits theaters July 29^th. Midnight in Paris is the best film Woody Allen has made in years. Whimsical, delightful and enchanting, it’s also one of the best times you’ll have at the movies all year. It’s this charm that I’m hoping Allen maintains for his next film The Bop Decameron, for which the full cast was just announced. Allen himself described this next effort as a “broad comedy,” and it’s set to shoot in Rome next month.

Darren Aronofsky Talks NOAH, Calls it His “Big Event Film”

Coming off the major success of Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky is looking to go a little bigger. While he left The Wolverine for personal reasons, he’s now trying to get his long-in-the-works passion project Noah financed, with Christian Bale reportedly being eyed for the lead. Based on the biblical tale, John Logan is currently re-writing the script while the project is being shopped around Hollywood. Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries Join THE HOBBIT

Peter Jackson has added two more to the cast of The Hobbit. Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Australian actor Barry Humphries have joined the cast of the two-part adaptation, currently filming in New Zealand. Lilly will be playing a new character—The Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Beyond the name, Jackson is remiss to reveal any other information about the role. Humphries, a talented voice actor and comedian, will be playing the Goblin King using motion-capture, akin to Andy Serkis’ performance of Gollum.

Open Road Films, the new surprisingly-legal distribution company created by AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment, has set the release date for its first film.  THR reports that Gary McKendry Killer Elite will open on September 23rd.  The film, which is based on a true story, stars Jason Statham as “a former special ops agent who is lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor (Robert De Niro). But first he must most complete a near-impossible mission and take down three assassins with a cunning leader (Clive Owen).”

First Image from Season Two of THE WALKING DEAD

Though the second season of AMC’s acclaimed zombie-centric series The Walking Dead won’t hit the air until this Halloween, we already have our first look at the second season of powerful drama (and yes, we know it’s not the image above). Though it’s nothing more than your standard zombie image, the eyes on the walker at the forefront of the image just creep me the hell out. Frank Darabont provides some publicity fluff with the photo by saying, “At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew. Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.” Plenty of viewers, myself included, can’t wait to see what happens when the second season takes off in October. Quasi-Casting Call: Jolie May Star in O. Russell’s THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK; Williams May Join HYDE PARK ON THE HUDSON

We have two stories that are almost casting news, but nothing has been confirmed for either film.  First up, Angelina Jolie hasn’t settled on her next acting project yet.  Her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey is set for December 23rd, she’s attached to star in Cleopatra, and Salt 2 recently got the greenlight.  Now Just Jared reports that Jolie is meeting with director David O. Russell to discuss his adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook.  Mark Wahlberg is already attached to play at Pat Peoples, a former high school history teacher who has just been released from a mental institution and plans on reconciling with his estranged wife.  However, Pat believes he’s only been in the institution for a few months, when actually he’s been inside for several years.  Presumably, Jolie is interested in playing Peoples’ wife.  However, even if she takes the role, it’s unknown where it fall into her schedule.  Cleopatra and Salt 2 are both looking for directors.

Deadline reports that Olivia Williams (Hanna) is the frontrunner to play Eleanor Roosevelt in Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on the Hudson.  The plot centers on King George VI to Hyde Park, the upstate New York home of the Roosevelt family in 1939.  In addition to the high stakes of the looming war, Eleanor discovers her husband FDR (Bill Murray) has been having an affair with his cousin.  After this discovery, no politician ever cheated on his wife again.

Zach Galifianakis Talks THE HANGOVER PART III

My largest issue with The Hangover Part II is that it wasn’t so much a sequel as a remake.  Director Todd Phillips has pledged to take the finale of the trilogy in a different direction and hopefully screenwriter Craig Mazin will deliver on that promise.  It sounds like ideas are already being hammered out as Zach Galifianakis tells Rolling Stone [via The Playlist] that he’s heard the plot involves Alan escaping from a mental hospital with help from Stu and Phil.

The interview with Zach Galifianakis also reveals that he doesn’t like taking pictures with people (“I’m a giant baby about it. They treat you like a cartoon.”), why he didn’t get the job as a Nike spokesman (“”The first thing I said was, ‘So, do you guys still have seven-year-olds making your stuff?’”), and that when he got hired to write for Saturday Night Live ten years ago, he pitched a sketch where in which host Britney Spears was doing an interview for Entertainment Tonight and she suddenly starts bleeding from the mouth for no reason.  She didn’t find the idea amusing, but Galifanakis’ fans will instantly recognize that the idea would fit perfectly into his ongoing sketch series Between Two Ferns. http://collider.com/zach-galifianakis-hangover-3-plot/95316/

Chris Hemsworth Confirmed as the Huntsman in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

In the weeks prior to the May 6 release of Thor, Chris Hemsworth became the lead contender to play the huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman. Encouraged by his earning power (nearly $300 million worldwide for Thor in two weeks), Deadline reports Universal has officially signed Hemsworth for the role. Kristen Stewart is on board as Snow White. Charlize Theron will play the evil queen, and Sam Claflin is set as the prince. Rupert Sanders will direct Snow White and the Huntsman from a script by Evan Daugherty. This Snow White is scheduled for release on December 21, 2012, notably six months after the release of competing fairy tale The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

Hemsworth has had two films in the can for awhile that should see release in the coming year. The Cabin in the Woods is scheduled for October 28; the Red Dawn remake doesn’t have a date yet. Hemsworth is currently filming The Avengers.

Ryan Gosling to Star in and Direct Remake of THE IDOLMAKER

Ryan Gosling is now set to star in and make his directorial debut on a remake of the 1980 musical drama The Idolmaker. Deadline reports that the actor will helm the project for MGM, but no other details are known at this time. The original film, directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Ray Sharkey, is based on the life of concert promoter and manager Bob Marcucci and tells the story of a similar songwriter/manager searching for “the next big thing.”

This is definitely not what many expected from Gosling’s first outing as director, but the actor’s no stranger to the music scene. His band, Dead Man’s Bones, released their first album in 2009. Gosling currently has a slate of fantastic projects lined up: Drive with Carey Mulligan is playing in-competition at Cannes, the comedy Crazy Stupid Love is slated for release this summer, and he’s currently filming George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March.

We’ve got a few casting stories for you this evening. First up, Robert De Niro is in talks to play Bernie Madoff in HBO’s adaptation of Diane Henriques’ New York Times bestseller The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust. Deadline reports that the cable channel optioned the rights to the book that recounts Madoff’s $65 million Ponzi scheme and is now looking at De Niro to take on the lead role.

Additionally, Clive Owen and Uma Thurman are in talks to star in the drama Blind. Summit Entertainment has set release dates for two of its upcoming projects. First up, Heitor Dhalia’s thriller Gone is now slated to hit theaters on February 24, 2012. Starring Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter, and Sebastian Stan, the film focuses on a young woman (Seyfried) who suspects her missing sister has been abducted by the same serial killer who kidnapped her only two years prior. THR also reports that the studio has set April 6, 2012 as the release date for its similarly kidnapped-based thriller Cold Light of Day. Starring Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis, Mabrouk El Mechri’s (JCVD) film centers on a man (Cavill) whose family is abducted while vacationing in Spain. As he puts the pieces of their disappearance together, the man uncovers family secrets and a government conspiracy that are responsible for the crime.

Wild Bunch and Paramount Team-Up for SHADOW DANCER Starring Clive Owen; Plus First Synopsis for Film Emerges

Last month, we brought you news of Clive Owen teaming up with Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go) and director James Marsh (Man on Wire) in an IRA spy-thriller, then titled, Shadow Dancer. Actually, it’s still titled Shadow Dancer, but we have further updates as well. In a press release sent our way, BBC Films announced that Paramount Pictures will be handling distribution in the UK while Wild Bunch tackles international sales.

Briefly, Shadow Dancer stars Owen as an MI5 agent and Riseborough as a member of the Irish Republican Army in Dublin during the 1990s. James Marsh will direct from a script written by Tom Bradby, who also wrote the novel of the same name. The film also stars Aiden Gillen (Game of Thrones) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) and will begin filming in Dublin this May. Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Hawkes, James Spader and More in Talks to Join Spielberg’s LINCOLN

A slew of actors are now in negotiations to join the cast of Steven Spielberg’s long-in-gestation Abraham Lincoln biopic Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis is set to star as our nation’s 16^th president, with Sally Field attached to play his wife Mary Todd. Now, the names of those currently in negotiations to join the project are as follows (deep breath): Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Hawkes, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill (Fair Game), Joseph Cross (Milk), David Costabile (Breaking Bad), Byron Jennings (Julie & Julia), Dakin Matthews (True Grit), Boris McGiver (The Wire), Gloria Reuben (ER), Jeremy Strong (The Happening) and David Warshofsky (Taken). Now that’s one hell of a cast.

Jones will play Pennsylvanian Republican congressman Thaddeus Stevens, a strong supporter of abolishing slavery and a man crucial to the legislation that funded the Civil War. Gordon-Levitt is in talks to play Lincoln’s son, Robert Todd. Robert was Abraham’s eldest son and the only one to live past his teenage years. No word on who the other actors will be playing, but one assumes that Lincoln’s cabinet will make up a good deal of the roles. Hit the jump to read the full press release. Director Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job) has set two lead actors for his latest film, Cities. Clive Owen and Anil Kapoor will star in the financial thriller that takes place in the months leading up to the Dow Jones reaching an all-time high. The film tells three intertwining stories: a hedge fund manager in New York seemingly has everything, a young couple in London are attempting to buy a new home, and a cop in Mumbai fights against corruption between property speculators and colleagues.

Filming is set to commence in October in multiple locations including New York, London and Mumbai. Parlay Films is set to handle international rights. Dakota Johnson, the young actress who impressed with her handle on the Aaron Sorkin banter while prancing around in Stanford cardinal underwear in The Social Network, has booked her next three projects.  Variety reports Johnson is currently shooting the indie comedy Goats with David Duchovny and Vera Farmiga.  This summer, she’ll film a role on the 21 Jump Street remake led by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.  Lastly, she’ll join Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Alison Brie, and Chris Pratt for the romantic comedy Five Year Engagement.

Francis Lawrence on "Constantine" Sequel and "I Am Legend" Prequel

We've been hearing a lot of news about the sequel to Keanu Reeves' "Constantine" and the prequel to Will Smith's "I Am Legend," both directed by Francis Lawrence. MTV has now caught up with Lawrence to find out if they are actually happening.

"'Constantine' has this cult following, which has been great. It's been embraced," he explained. "It would be great to figure out a sequel, and if we did, and we've been trying to figure one out, it would be great to do the really dark, scary [version]. We got caught in that weird PG-13 - R no man's land, and we should do the hard-R scary version, which I would love to do."

Regarding the "I Am Legend" prequel, Lawrence simply said: "No, I don't think that's ever going to happen."

"Constantine" grossed $230 million on a $100 million budget. "I Am Legend" grossed $585 million on a $150 million budget.

Trailer: Patrick Wilson's "The Ledge" Thriller

Today we have the trailer for "The Ledge" thriller, starring Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy"). Check it out below.

Plot: A battle of philosophies between a fundamentalist Christian and an atheist escalates into a lethal battle of wills. As Hollis (Howard) tries to persuade Gavin (Hunnam) not to jump, each man begins to open up about his past, and we discover that neither of them is convinced his life is worth living.

The new movie is written and directed by Matthew Chapman ("Runaway Jury" writer) and has already premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It is now set to hit theaters on June 29th

An international teaser trailer for the horror flick Intruders has gone online.  Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), the film stars Clive Owen as a father trying to help his 11-year-old daughter (Ella Purnell) deal with her childhood demons.  Said demons might be slightly literal.

In addition to the new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Summit has also sent over some new images from Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers.  Yes, the trailer makes the film look abysmal, but look!  Pretty costumes!

Guy Pearce Joins Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS

This weekend, a rumor went floating around that Guy Pearce had joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien-prequel-but-not-an-Alien-prequel, Prometheus.  We held off for confirmation and now the good folks over at The Playlist have made that confirmation.  There’s currently no word on what role Pearce will play, but he’s a valuable addition to any cast, and the cast for Prometheus is an embarrassment of riches: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba all have leading roles and they’ll be joined by Logan Marshall-Green (24), Rafe Spall (Hot Fuzz), Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy), Kate Dickie (Red Road).

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the film will reportedly take place in the Alien universe, but not necessarily be a direct prequel to Scott’s original 1979 film.  Prometheus is due out in 3D on June 8, 2012.  Pearce recently co-starred in the miniseries Mildred Pierce and he’ll next be seen in theaters in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror flick Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough to Star in IRA Thriller from MAN ON WIRE Director James Marsh

Director James Marsh may have earned an Oscar for his documentary Man on Wire, but he’s no stranger to narrative features.  He previously directed The King starring Gael Garcia Bernal and the crime drama Red Riding 1980.  Vulture now reports that he’s got another fiction film up his sleeve and that Clive Owen is attached to star.  Marsh tells Vulture that his new film “is much more like Red Riding, it’s a genre film, it’s a thriller.”

The untitled project (formerly titled Shadow Dancer) is set in Northern Ireland during the early 1990s and will co-star Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go) as a former IRA terrorist turned informer.  The film also stars Aidan Gillen (The Wire) Gillian Anderson (The X-Files).  Shooting on the low-budget film is set to begin this May in Dublin.

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, it looks like Penelope Cruz is set to re-team with director Woody Allen. The actress won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona and now EW reports that she’s set to work with the director again, presumably on his next film that is set in Rome. There are currently no plot details on the flick, which is set to start filming this summer.

Maggie Grace has closed her deal to return in producer Luc Besson’s Taken 2. There was previously some hubbub over whether star Liam Neeson would reprise his role from the first film, but everything was squared away and now Deadline reports that the film is ready to go with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3). Sofia Vergara in Talks to Join THE THREE STOOGES

Hot off the heels of the news that the Farrelly brothers have set Will Sasso and Sean Hayes as Curly and Larry, respectively, in their long-in-the-works The Three Stooges movie comes word that actress Sofia Vergara is eying a role in the film. The Wrap reports that the actress is in talks for the role of “Lydia.”

After numerous casting changes/rumors/auditions, it looks like the Brothers Farrelly are at last nearing production on the film. With Larry and Curly cast, producers now look to Moe. Apparently Hank Azaria is the frontrunner to grab that role. The film will not be a biopic, but rather a feature-length Three Stooges movie divided into “three 27 minutes segments, driven by physical comedy.” 20^th Century Fox hopes to get production started sometime this spring.

On her appearance: “I mean, I’m very vain. That would be my middle name. Of course I am, you know what I mean? I love the visual.”

On her marriage to Gavin Rosdale: “The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day. We were in New Orleans on tour. So, yeah, I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us. It’s one of my biggest achievements.”

On whether Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry have taken a page out of her playbook when it comes to style: “Really? I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that. But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing.”
