An international teaser trailer for the horror flick Intruders has gone online.  Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), the film stars Clive Owen as a father trying to help his 11-year-old daughter (Ella Purnell) deal with her childhood demons.  Said demons might be slightly literal.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Kerry Fox (Bright Star), Carice van Houten (Black Book), and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds).  Intruders opens October 7th.

In addition to the new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Summit has also sent over some new images from Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers.  Yes, the trailer makes the film look abysmal, but look!  Pretty costumes!
Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz.  The Three Musketeers opens October 14th.

Guy Pearce Joins Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 2nd, 2011

This weekend, a rumor went floating around that Guy Pearce had joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien-prequel-but-not-an-Alien-prequel, Prometheus.  We held off for confirmation and now the good folks over at The Playlist have made that confirmation.  There’s currently no word on what role Pearce will play, but he’s a valuable addition to any cast, and the cast for Prometheus is an embarrassment of riches: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba all have leading roles and they’ll be joined by Logan Marshall-Green (24), Rafe Spall (Hot Fuzz), Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy), Kate Dickie (Red Road).
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the film will reportedly take place in the Alien universe, but not necessarily be a direct prequel to Scott’s original 1979 film.  Prometheus is due out in 3D on June 8, 2012.  Pearce recently co-starred in the miniseries Mildred Pierce and he’ll next be seen in theaters in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror flick Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

According to Heard, the series is "a crime drama centered around the Playboy clubs of Chicago in the 1960s." It will focus on the women working at the clubs and the sexual revolution.

The pilot episode, which is currently filming in Chicago, was written by Chad Hodge ("Tru Calling") and is being directed by Alan Taylor ("The Sopranos," "Mad Men"). Eddie Cibrian, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Leah Renee and Wes Ramsey co-star.

First Look: Ryan Goslings Drive and Guy Pearces Lock-Out Thrillers
Over at CinemaCon are plenty of never-before-seen promotional material, including for Ryan Gosling's "Drive" and Guy Pearce's "Lock-Out." Thanks to SlashFilm, we now have photos from both films. Check everything out below.

"Drive" is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) and co-stars Carey Mulligan and Ron Perlman. It is set to hit theaters on September 16th.

Plot: Hollywood stunt driver by day (Gosling), a loner by nature, moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA's most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene (Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best - Drive.

"Lock-Out" co-stars Maggie Grace and is written by Luc Besson. In the movie, Pearce is a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the US. He's offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter (Grace) from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Craven Says Scream 5 And 6 Could Happen If Bob Weinstein Is Up For It

published: 2011-03-30 19:15:47 Author: Perri Nemiroff
Ready to rehash some old news? In true Hollywood spirit, it’s time to talk sequels before the first film even comes out, or, in this case, the fourth. Right when word of Scream 4 got out, so did news of Scream 5 and 6. Ever since, there hasn’t been much talk about turning this reboot into a trilogy. However, just the other day, Shock Till You Drop posted a report that stated they’ve “learned Dimension Films still has a Scream 5 writing assignment on the table for a potential writer.”

Earlier today I had the pleasure of talking to Wes Craven himself about bringing back Ghostface. You’ll have to wait a bit to read the full conversation, but here’s something that might hold you over; there was no ending our chat without bringing up the potential of additional films and Craven was kind enough to put in his two cents. Here’s what the director had to say:

No, there is no Scream 5 script. Kevin [Williamson], when I first talked to him about this project before there was a script, he had an idea for a trilogy, so we’ll have to see what comes out of that. I’m sure Bob Weinstein is open to it if the script or ideas are to his pleasure. He has very high standards. I don’t think he’s in any rush to do it particularly, but on the other hand, I think he’s open to the idea of a trilogy, so at the point when there is an idea that he’s really excited about I’m sure he will begin launching that next film.
What should we take from this? It’s tough to be sure, but it seems as though Weinstein is the man in charge here. Should Scream 4 do well and should someone produce an idea for subsequent films that are up to his standards, there’s really no reason to think Craven wouldn’t have another trilogy on his hands. The question is, what are these “high standards” Craven speaks of? There’s just about no doubt Scream 4 will post some pretty high numbers at the box office, but the concern lies in how the film will fare with critics and fans. I’ve certainly got faith in Craven. Do you? http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Craven-Says-Scream-5-And-6-Could-Happen-If-Bob-Weinstein-Is-Up-For-It-23965.html

**Michelle William's "Meek's Cutoff" Trailer **Joel McHale Joins Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in Seth MacFarlane’s TED **New Trailer for MIRAL Starring Freida Pinto **New Posters Released for SUPER Starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, and Disney’s WINNIE THE POOH

Joel McHale Joins Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in Seth MacFarlane’s TED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Joel McHale is in final negotiations to join the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy Ted.  The story centers on a man (Mark Wahlberg) who’s life is complicated when his childhood wish for his teddy bear, Ted (voiced and played by MacFarlane via motion capture), comes to life.  Kunis will play the girlfriend of Wahlberg’s character who wants marriage, but only if her boyfriend gets a handle on his relationship with his pot-smoking, foul-mouthed, now-alive teddy bear.  Deadline reports that “McHale will play Rex, the sleazy boss who is perpetually putting the moves on Kunis’ character.”
In addition to starring on NBC’s Community (the best comedy on TV that you’re not watching) and hosting E!’s The Soup, McHale has three films set to come out this year: Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World (August 19th), the Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number (September 30th), and The Big Year co-starring Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson (October 14th).  He’s also hosting the Independent Spirit Awards, which air tomorrow night at 10pm on IFC.

New Trailer for MIRAL Starring Freida Pinto

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

The Weinstein Company have release a new trailer for Miral, the new film from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly director Julian Schnabel.  A French trailer for the film went online last summer, but I had trouble gathering what the story was about.  This new trailer does a better job of explaining that Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) plays a student who gets caught up in the events of the Intifada resistance.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Miral opens March 25th.

New posters have been released for two upcoming films: Super and Winnie the Pooh. Directed by James Gunn (Slither), Super tells the story of an average guy who takes on the persona of “The Crimson Bolt” upon learning that his wife is having an affair. The film stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon. IFC is set to release the film on April 1st.
The “bear of little brain” returns to the big screen in Disney’s Winnie the Pooh. Narrated by John Cleese, the 2D “hand-drawn style” animated film follows Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga and Roo on an all-new adventure to help Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh is slated for a July 15th release. Hit the jump to check out both posters.

Guy Pearce Was Almost in "Batman Begins"

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Fans have been expecting Guy Pearce (Memento) to appear in one of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, but it has yet to happen. According to the actor, Nolan actually approached him to play a role in "Batman Begins."

"Chris Nolan flew me to London to talk about one of the other roles in ['Batman Begins']," he said. "It was Liam Neeson's role. And there was talk about having the mentor be the same age as Christian Bale, rather than be an older mentor. But maybe they tossed the idea around and other people went, 'No, that's not gonna work.'"

Pearce went on to say that he was also offered the chance to play the lead in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie, which Ben Affleck ended up starring in.

"I was offered the first 'Daredevil,' yeah," he explained, adding that he eventually turned down the role. "It wasn't really my — I mean, I wasn't really sort of — I don't know. Comic-strip stuff isn't really my cup of tea."

Michelle William's "Meek's Cutoff" Trailer

Michelle Williams Meeks Cutoff TrailerToday we have the trailer for "Meek's Cutoff," which is directed by Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy) and stars Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Bruce Greenwood and Will Patton. The film is set to get a limited theatrical release on April 8th. Check out the trailer below.

Plot: The year is 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail, and a wagon team of three families has hired the mountain man Stephen Meek to guide them over the Cascade Mountains. Claiming to know a short cut, Meek leads the group on an unmarked path across the high plain desert, only to become lost in the dry rock and sage.

Over the coming days, the emigrants must face the scourges of hunger, thirst and their own lack of faith in each other's instincts for survival. When a Native American wanderer crosses their path, the emigrants are torn between their trust in a guide who has proven himself unreliable and a man who has always been seen as the natural enemy.

FilmDistrict to Distribute Guillermo del Toro’s DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK on August 12th

Before Miramax underwent a new business deal, Troy Nixey’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark was scheduled to open on January 21, 2011 (you can see the teaser trailer here).  Unfortunately, in October the Guillermo del Toro-produced/co-written horror flick dropped off the schedule and went into release-limbo.  THR now reports that FilmDistrict has come to the rescue and will distribute the film on August 12th.  However, the film will have some stiff competition.  Also getting released on that date is 30 Minutes or Less, the new comedy from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer that stars Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, and Danny McBride; and Tate Taylor’s adaptation of The Help starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Hit the jump for a synopsis of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, and Bailee Madison.

Sony Pictures Classics to Distribute Vera Farmiga’s HIGHER GROUND

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 14th, 2011

Sony Pictures Classics have acquired the North American distribution rights to Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut, Higher GroundI caught the film at Sundance and while it left me cold, I should note that some of my fellow critics absolutely adored the flick.  The film centers on Corinne (Farmiga), a devoutly-Christian woman who slowly begins to question her faith and the male-dominated power structure of her church.  It has some funny moments, but it rarely seems to be mocking faith, and I applaud it for that.

Phillip Noyce in Talks to Direct HUNTER KILLER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 14th, 2011

Salt director Phillip Noyce is in talks to direct the action-thriller Hunter Killer.  According to Moviehole, the Black Hawk Dawn-style script is based on the novel Firing Point by Don Keith and George Wallace.  The story centers on “an American sub commander and a Navy SEAL team that must rescue the Russian president and defeat a renegade admiral who’s attempting a coup.”  If this film had come out during the cold war, it would’ve be a huge slap in the face to the USSR.  “Yeah, that’s right!  How awesome is America?  We’ll rescue your leaders for you.  You’re welcome, commies.”

Noyce, who previously directed Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games, and recently turned down the director’s chair for Salt 2, is also attached to the sci-fi flick Timeless and an adaptation of Tim Winton’s Dirt Music starring Russell Crowe.  Hopefully, someone will get Hunter Killer into production (and with a better title) because I love me some submarine flicks.

Christian Bale to Reunite with MACHINIST Director Brad Anderson for CONCRETE ISLAND

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 9th, 2011

Director Brad Anderson is looking to reunite with Batman himself, Christian Bale, for his next film outing. In 2004, Bale transformed himself into a small bird for Anderson’s psychological thriller The Machinist. During a recent interview, Anderson announced that he and Bale are looking to team up yet again for his next flick, Concrete Island, which he described thusly:
“The best way to describe it is it’s like an urban Robinson Crusoe story – a guy crashes a car into a highway interchange and is marooned in this weedy lot, injured, and can’t escape and he’s basically trying to survive in the middle of the big urban Metropolis.”
In the interview with Shock Till You Drop, Anderson said they plan to shoot the film when Bale can fit it into his schedule (which, more than likely, will not be this year). Bale is currently filming 13 Flowers of Nanjing with director Zhang Yimou, and will then move on to The Dark Knight Rises, the presumed concluding chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Anderson is getting ready to release Vanishing on 7th Street.

Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy Join Bryan Singer’s JACK THE GIANT KILLER

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 9th, 2011

Two highly esteemed actors have joined the cast of director Bryan Singer’s (X-Men, X2) fantasy tale Jack the Giant Killer. Stanley Tucci is set to play the villain of the film, Roderick, while Bill Nighy will portray Fallon, the leader of the giants. The film is a darker re-telling of the classic “Jack and the Beanstalk” fairy tale, with Jack going after the princess who has been kidnapped and taken to the giants’ kingdom. No actor is currently attached to play the title role of Jack, but Kick-Ass star has been an early favorite and recently screen tested for the film.
The Wrap reports that Tucci’s character is an advisor to the king in the film and has plans of taking over Clositer. Nighy’s character of Fallon is two-headed, with the other head being played by John Kassir (the voice of the Cryptkeeper in the Tales from the Crypt series). When Steve recently sat down with producer Neal Moritz, he stated that filming on Jack was set to begin in March, so expect more casting news very soon as the production start-date nears.

Unofficial set photos have landed online of Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s J. The Coen Brothers Writing a “Full-on Horror Movie”

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 9th, 2011

The Coen Brothers have shown that they can do just about anything.  They can bend any genre, they can hit any tone, and they’ve hit a winning streak that shows no sign of slowing down.  But what will be their follow-up to True Grit?  Ethan Coen tells Empire that they might be going into the horror business.  When Coen was asked if they would ever do a film in the horror genre, he replied:
“Funny you should ask, yes, we’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.”
The part about McDormand may be a joke (she’s his sister-in-law), but it would be awesome to see them go into the horror genre.  They’ve never shied away from the horrific, but to see them pursue a film firmly in the genre and seeing how they’ll twist it sounds like it could be incredible.  Hit the jump for Coen had to say about their other potential projects.

New Trailer for the HBO Miniseries MILDRED PIERCE Starring Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: February 9th, 2011

mildred_pierce_kate_winslet_slice
Back in September, we got our first look at the anticipated HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce in the form of an impressive first trailer. Now HBO has released another trailer as we inch closer to the March 27th premiere. The miniseries (directed by Far from Heaven helmer Todd Haynes and based on James M. Cain’s novel) follows a proud, single mother (Winslet) struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the depression in middle-class Los Angeles. You’ll probably recognize the song from the first half of the trailer as the very same one that graced the first half of the trailer for The Fighter, but don’t take my word for it. Check out the new trailer after the jump.  Mildred Pierce premieres March 27th.
