KILLER ELITE, Starring Jason Statham and Clive Owen, Slated for September 23rd

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: June 8th, 2011

Open Road Films, the new surprisingly-legal distribution company created by AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment, has set the release date for its first film.  THR reports that Gary McKendry Killer Elite will open on September 23rd.  The film, which is based on a true story, stars Jason Statham as “a former special ops agent who is lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor (Robert De Niro). But first he must most complete a near-impossible mission and take down three assassins with a cunning leader (Clive Owen).”
The other three films set to open the weekend of September 23rd are the Taylor Lautner thriller Abduction, the family flick Dolphin Tale 3D, and Bennett Miller’s Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. http://collider.com/killer-elite-release-date/95333/

First Image from Season Two of THE WALKING DEAD

by Ethan Anderton   Posted: June 8th, 2011

Though the second season of AMC’s acclaimed zombie-centric series The Walking Dead won’t hit the air until this Halloween, we already have our first look at the second season of powerful drama (and yes, we know it’s not the image above). Though it’s nothing more than your standard zombie image, the eyes on the walker at the forefront of the image just creep me the hell out. Frank Darabont provides some publicity fluff with the photo by saying, “At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew. Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.” Plenty of viewers, myself included, can’t wait to see what happens when the second season takes off in October. See the first look at the second season of The Walking Dead after the jump.

Quasi-Casting Call: Jolie May Star in O. Russell’s THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK; Williams May Join HYDE PARK ON THE HUDSON

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 8th, 2011

We have two stories that are almost casting news, but nothing has been confirmed for either film.  First up, Angelina Jolie hasn’t settled on her next acting project yet.  Her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey is set for December 23rd, she’s attached to star in Cleopatra, and Salt 2 recently got the greenlight.  Now Just Jared reports that Jolie is meeting with director David O. Russell to discuss his adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook.  Mark Wahlberg is already attached to play at Pat Peoples, a former high school history teacher who has just been released from a mental institution and plans on reconciling with his estranged wife.  However, Pat believes he’s only been in the institution for a few months, when actually he’s been inside for several years.  Presumably, Jolie is interested in playing Peoples’ wife.  However, even if she takes the role, it’s unknown where it fall into her schedule.  Cleopatra and Salt 2 are both looking for directors.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Hyde Park on the Hudson.
Deadline reports that Olivia Williams (Hanna) is the frontrunner to play Eleanor Roosevelt in Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on the Hudson.  The plot centers on King George VI to Hyde Park, the upstate New York home of the Roosevelt family in 1939.  In addition to the high stakes of the looming war, Eleanor discovers her husband FDR (Bill Murray) has been having an affair with his cousin.  After this discovery, no politician ever cheated on his wife again.

Zach Galifianakis Talks THE HANGOVER PART III

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 8th, 2011

My largest issue with The Hangover Part II is that it wasn’t so much a sequel as a remake.  Director Todd Phillips has pledged to take the finale of the trilogy in a different direction and hopefully screenwriter Craig Mazin will deliver on that promise.  It sounds like ideas are already being hammered out as Zach Galifianakis tells Rolling Stone [via The Playlist] that he’s heard the plot involves Alan escaping from a mental hospital with help from Stu and Phil.
The interview with Zach Galifianakis also reveals that he doesn’t like taking pictures with people (“I’m a giant baby about it. They treat you like a cartoon.”), why he didn’t get the job as a Nike spokesman (“”The first thing I said was, ‘So, do you guys still have seven-year-olds making your stuff?’”), and that when he got hired to write for Saturday Night Live ten years ago, he pitched a sketch where in which host Britney Spears was doing an interview for Entertainment Tonight and she suddenly starts bleeding from the mouth for no reason.  She didn’t find the idea amusing, but Galifanakis’ fans will instantly recognize that the idea would fit perfectly into his ongoing sketch series Between Two Ferns. http://collider.com/zach-galifianakis-hangover-3-plot/95316/

Craig Mazin to Write THE HANGOVER PART III
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 31st, 2011
The Hangover Part II co-writer Craig Mazin has been hired to write the script for The Hangover Part III. Warner Bros. is wasting no time in moving forward on a sequel to the box-office record-breaker and I’m honestly a little surprised that they hadn’t already started moving on a new film when the Hangover 2 was tracking through the roof. Mazin, whose previous credits include Scary Movie 3 and 4, co-wrote The Hangover Part II with director Todd Phillips and screenwriter Scot Armstrong (Semi-Pro), although “wrote” may not be the best way to describe it. I’m not sure if copy-pasting the script from the first film and making minor changes counts as “writing”.

When Steve spoke with Phillips during the press junket for Hangover Part II, Phillips said that Part III would be the finale to the series but would be a new template and a new idea. Hit the jump for his full quote. [The Tracking Board via The Wrap].

Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio and Idris Elba Circling Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED?
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 31st, 2011
Tarantino fans are hungry for any information regarding his next film, Django Unchained. However, while deals are still being done, we’re all left to wonder how the film will be cast. We already know that Christoph Waltz will play a bounty hunter who mentors an escaped slave named Django and then teams up with him to free Django’s wife from an evil plantation owner. Rumors are now springing forth from the Twitter about casting for Django and the plantation owner, Calvin Candie. Yesterday, tweets from Idris Elba hinted (in the vaguest of terms) that he might be playing Django even though Will Smith was tipped as Tarantino’s top choice for the role. Today, Creative Screenwriting magazine Senior Editor Jeff Goldsmith tweeted

“Casting Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio WILL play villian [sic] Calvin Candie in [Quentin] Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained”! QT wanted him for [Inglourious Basterds] & now has him!”

Jamie Campbell Bower Play Jace Wayland in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 31st, 2011
A couple weeks ago, we reported that Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga: New Moon), Ed Speleers (Eragon), and Leebo Freeman were all in the running for the male lead in Scott Charles Stewart’s adaptation of the young adult book series The Mortal Instruments. Deadline is now reporting that Bower has won that race and will play Jace Wayland. Jace is a member of a group known as “Shadowhunters” who are warriors devoted to ridding the world of demons. The book’s protagonist Clary Fray (played by Lily Collins and I swear I’m not making up these character names) witnesses a murder and is eventually drawn into the world of the Shadowhunters. In the synopsis, Jace is described as “a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk.” Is the tagline for this movie going to be “This totally isn’t anything like Twilight, but if you liked Twilight, you should see this movie.”

Earlier this month, we reported that Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages had lost Alec Baldwin, and losing Alec Baldwin is sad news for any production.  But cheer up!  It turns out that report was false because Shankman has tweeted a photo from the set showing Baldwin in hippie garb alongside a lollipop-brandishing Russell Brand.  The context of the photo?  Unknown to people like myself who haven’t seen the Broadway musical upon which the movie is based.
Hit the jump to check out the full image.  The film also stars Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, and newcomer Diego Boneta.  Rock of Ages opens June 1, 2012. http://collider.com/rock-of-ages-set-photo-alec-baldwin/93777/

Bradley Cooper Covers 'GQ Australia' June/July 2011
Bradley Cooper looks dapper in a suit on the cover of GQ Australia’s June/July issue.
Here’s what the 36-year-old Hangover star shared with the mag, which goes on sale May 30 in Australia:
On playing Eddie Morra in Limitless: “I think originally Heath Ledger wanted to do it. Then Shia LaBeouf was attached and then … well, I’m not quite sure, but the story goes he got Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and that was that … When I heard that he fell out I just pleaded my case so I could at least have the meeting with Neil Burger, who was attached to direct.”
On his amibitions: “I just keep it really simple. I just want to get better. It’s all about the filmmaker - and that’s it … I want to be an actor who gets to work with these wonderful people. That’s it.”
On keeping his personal life private: “I just don’t talk about my private life. I’ll never do it, no matter whats written about me. Some things you just have to keep to yourself. I’ll talk about my personal past, family, and other stuff, but when you bring in other people, I feel there’s no reason for it.”

"The Hangover 3" Headed to Amsterdam?

Posted: May 28th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

"The Hangover Part II" is now expected to top $135 million at the domestic box office. And considering the fact that director Todd Phillips always envisioned the franchise as a trilogy, a third installment is inevitable.

THR caught up with the sequel's female lead Jamie Chung, who spoke about where the third installment should take place. "Probably Amsterdam," she said. "If you think of the coolest, craziest cities in the world, it would have to be Las Vegas, Bangkok and Amsterdam."

Justin Bartha added: "Amsterdam could be a different kind of hangover. It could be fun. And Zach [Galifanakis] will probably already be there."

When asked if Ken Jeong would want to return for the third installment, the actor said: "I would absolutely do a third one [with] no fear of typecasting. All of my fame and success in the last few years is directly due to 'The Hangover.' Those guys are like family to me, so it doesn't matter -- big part or small part... Well, I guess I know a thing or two about small parts."

As she gathers more and more evidence to bring to light she discovers the last thing she ever expected, that there is no way for the corporate army and UN officers to be held accountable for their actions.
