Rob Cohen to Direct Revenge Thriller BULLET RUN

by Brendan Bettinger  Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Rob Cohen has signed with Voltage Productions to direct the revenge thriller Bullet RunVariety provides an outline for the Andrew Hilton script:
[Bullet Run centers] on the head of an elite private protection team and his ex-CIA agent wife attempting to avenge their daughter’s murder by infiltrating Iran to bring the killer to justice. When the operation to extract their target goes awry, they must battle through 200 miles and 20,000 bullets while keeping alive the one man they want to kill.

Nicolas Chartier, Craig Flores, and Zev Foreman of Voltage will produce alongside Hilton.  Now that Cohen is on board, he will work with Hilton to develop the script after production wraps on I, Alex Cross.  I must confess I love 1) husband-and-wife spy teams and 2) the title Bullet Run.  With the right casting, this could be right up my alley. http://collider.com/rob-cohen-bullet-run/98462/

Emma Thompson in Talks to Write ANNIE Remake

by Brendan Bettinger   Posted: June 23rd, 2011

It’s been a few months since we last heard about the Annie remake, developed by Will Smith as a starring vehicle for daughter Willow.  At the time, Glee creator Ryan Murphy was mentioned as the frontrunner to direct.  Smith and co-producer Jay-Z probably missed the chance to squeeze the shoot into the Glee spring/summer production hiatus between season two and three.  To do so they would have needed a script.  On that front, Vulture hears Smith and Jay-Z are in negotiations Oscar-winning screenwriter Emma Thompson to write the musical.  Presumably, the topic came up as Smith and Thompson shared a break on the set of Men in Black III.
Vulture actively lobbies for Thompson to tailor the role of drunk orphanage director Miss Hannigan for Oscar-winning actor Emma Thompson; I co-sign.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the 1982 movie. http://collider.com/emma-thompson-annie-movie-remake/98457/

Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn Talk LOGAN’S RUN

by Bill Graham   Posted: June 23rd, 2011

There are a handful of properties that beg for a remake that haven’t found the right combination to get it started. The latest team is star Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson), who think they have finally figured out the errors of the previously potential suitors. Since the mid-1990s, the Warner Bros. property has chewed up and spit out every director Joel Silver could attach to the film, including Carl Erik Rinsch in November. The 1976 original directed by Michael Anderson centered on a future society that put an age cap at 30 to help alleviate the threat of overpopulation and limited resources. A Sandman named Logan 5 has spent his entire life chasing down Runners, but suddenly becomes one himself in a mix up. For what Gosling and Refn think is the key to remaking Logan’s Run today, hit the jump. http://collider.com/ryan-gosling-nicolas-winding-refn-logans-run/98448/

Ryan Gosling Set to Reunite With Nicolas Winding Refn for ONLY GOD FORGIVES

by Bill Graham    Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Ryan Gosling has officially shot out of a cannon. The Blue Valentine star seems to be attached to a plethora of projects these days and he is already making of habit of working with Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine). Now he is in talks to reteam with Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Gosling’s upcoming film Drive. Considering Ramses went bananas for Drive at the Los Angeles Film Festival, I think the two teaming up again is a good sign. Their new film is titled Only God Forgives and will also star Kristin Scott Thomas with a planned fall start date. However, Refn and Gosling aren’t stopping there. They are also headlining Warner Bros’ remake of Logan’s Run. For more on Only God Forgives and Gosling’s other projects, hit the jump. http://collider.com/ryan-gosling-only-god-forgives/98440/

New Posters for CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE., TERRA NOVA, and SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

by Jason Barr  Posted: June 23rd, 2011

We have a plethora of new posters to bring you tonight from Crazy, Stupid, Love., Fox’s Terra Nova, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. Beginning with Crazy, I’m looking forward to this pic because of its stellar cast and I’m a fan of these new posters because it gives me a heads up on which of the said cast members embody “Crazy,” “Stupid,” and “Love.” Starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, and Marisa Tomei, Crazy, Stupid, Love. hits theaters on July 29th.
Next up, we have some very cool sheets from Fox’s and producer Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi drama Terra Nova. Up until now, I was a little concerned that the series’ promo campaign was trying to look kind of like Avatar without looking exactly like Avatar. However, the three “Warning” messages on display here are pretty creative and stylish to boot. Fox just announced that Terra Nova will premiere on Monday, September 26th. Finally, we also have some new looks at Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, one of which is a character poster for a dog. Enough said. The Robert Rodriguez written/directed pic stars Jessica Alba, Antonio Banderas, Jeremy Piven, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, and Joel McHale. It opens in 3D on August 19th. Hit the jump to check out the new posters.

Seth Gordon to Reboot WARGAMES for MGM

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Seth Gordon directed one of my favorite documentaries with 2007′s The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. Perhaps the fine folks over at MGM are fans of that pic as well because the studio has him handed the keys to another gaming-centric project: its WarGames reboot. According to Deadline, Gordon will develop the film with the intent to direct. For those unaware, 1983′s WarGames starred Matthew Broderick as a computer prodigy who takes pleasure in manipulating a military computer program only to find that the “game” could indeed launch real nuclear missiles, effectively beginning World War III. Directed by John Badham (Short Circuit), the film garnered three Oscar nods for “Best Sound,” “Best Cinematography,” and “Best Writing” respectively. In short, Green’s updated take has a lot to live up to.
WarGames becomes the third franchise to receive the “reboot treatment” from MGM which also has plans to resurrect RoboCop with director Jose Padilha and Carrie with playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. As for Gordon, he most recently directed Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Colin Farrel in the upcoming comedy Horrible Bosses. That pic hits theaters on July 8th.

New posters for Puss in Boots and Crazy, Stupid, Love have been released today. A spinoff of the Shrek franchise, Puss in Boots features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Zach Galifianakis. Guillermo del Toro serves as a consultant on the film, and when Steve saw some footage earlier this year he was very impressed. The poster for Puss in Boots features a cat walking away from an explosion, so it’s automatically better than any other poster ever. The film opens in 3D on November 4th.
A poster for the dramedy Crazy, Stupid, Love has also been released. Steve Carell stars as a man still reeling from his divorce when he begins taking advice from a ladies man played by Ryan Gosling. In addition to Carell and Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon also star. Crazy, Stupid, Love hits theaters July 29th. Full Cast for Woody Allen’s Next Film THE BOP DECAMERON Announced, Includes Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin and Ellen Page

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 20th, 2011

Midnight in Paris is the best film Woody Allen has made in years. Whimsical, delightful and enchanting, it’s also one of the best times you’ll have at the movies all year. It’s this charm that I’m hoping Allen maintains for his next film The Bop Decameron, for which the full cast was just announced. Allen himself described this next effort as a “broad comedy,” and it’s set to shoot in Rome next month.
The cast for The Bop Decameron includes Allen himself, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page, with Alison Pill, Alessandra Mastronardi and more set to co-star. Hit the jump to read the full press release, which includes the full cast listing. http://collider.com/woody-allen-the-bop-decameron-cast/97570/

Darren Aronofsky Talks NOAH, Calls it His “Big Event Film”

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 20th, 2011

Coming off the major success of Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky is looking to go a little bigger. While he left The Wolverine for personal reasons, he’s now trying to get his long-in-the-works passion project Noah financed, with Christian Bale reportedly being eyed for the lead. Based on the biblical tale, John Logan is currently re-writing the script while the project is being shopped around Hollywood. Recently, the director talked a bit about his idea for the project, calling it “a big event film.” Hit the jump to see what else he had to say regarding Noah. http://collider.com/darren-aronofsky-noah/97560/

Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries Join THE HOBBIT

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 20th, 2011

Peter Jackson has added two more to the cast of The Hobbit. Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Australian actor Barry Humphries have joined the cast of the two-part adaptation, currently filming in New Zealand. Lilly will be playing a new character—The Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Beyond the name, Jackson is remiss to reveal any other information about the role. Humphries, a talented voice actor and comedian, will be playing the Goblin King using motion-capture, akin to Andy Serkis’ performance of Gollum.

Emma Roberts & Rory Culkin Cover 'Nylon' May 2011
Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin cover Nylon magazine’s May 2011 issue, which celebrates young Hollywood!
Here’s what the Scream 4 co-stars had to share:
Emma on her Nickelodeon years: “I loved that part of my life. A lot of people that were on Disney or Nickelodeon bash it afterwards. And I just think, That’s what got you your start! And also, from my experience, it was so fun. It was the calm before the storm… if you make the transition [as an actor] in the same way that you’re transitioning in real life, you’ll be fine. It’s when you’re 16 and you’re trying to play a 20-year-old hitchhiking stripper that people are gonna give you a hard time.”
Rory on the choice between boxing and music: “Boxing is a little more mindless and takes me away from everything. Music can do that, too, but it’s another art form, you know what I mean? It’s something to be passionate about. Whereas boxing is like, I wanna kick some ass and get my ass kicked. It’s awesome.”
Rory on his film roles up until now: “I’ve been sort of scared of certain roles in the past, almost to the point of being kind of snobbish… Now I’m just a lot more open to things - I’m starting to feel the need to exercise my acting and leave my comfort zone. I think Scream is an example of that.”
Emma on Glee: “I love that Gwyneth Paltrow’s on Glee. That’s something you would never think she’d do. And the fact that she just thought, I’m gonna let loose and do this - that’s so cool!”

Joel Edgerton May Star in THE BOURNE LEGACY or SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 21st, 2011

Rising star Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) may be close to landing a major role in a high-profile project.  Vulture is reporting that The Bourne Legacy writer-director Tony Gilroy wants Edgerton as the new Bourne, but that Universal wants the actor for the male lead in Snow White and the Huntsman.  The major issue regarding Edgerton and Bourne is that Universal doesn’t feel he has enough name recognition to carry the franchise, and the studio prefers either James McAvoy or Shia LaBeouf for the role.  However, Universal also believes that Edgerton would be a good fit for Huntsman since co-stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron would make up for Edgerton’s current lack of star power.  If I had to guess which film will get Edgerton, I’d bet on Snow White since I don’t think Universal is going to chance the Bourne franchise on a lead who’s mostly unknown to audiences outside his native Australia.
Edgerton will next be seen in the sports drama Warrior opposite Tom Hardy and the horror prequel The Thing with Mary Elizabeth Winstead.  I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen of the actor so far and I’m glad that he’s being considered for leading roles in tentpole movies.  The Bourne Legacy is currently set for August 3, 2012 while Snow White and the Huntsman is slated for December 21, 2012.

4 New Television Spots for THE HANGOVER PART II

the-hangover-2-slice
Warner Bros. has released four new television spots for The Hangover Part II. Although they don’t feature a ton of new footage from the film, it should be enough to whet the appetite of fans. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to checking out the film in theaters, I’m just still worried by the amount of self-referential material crammed into both these spots and the trailer. Honestly, Warner Bros. could save moviegoers a ton of time if they would just use the tagline “For Fans of The Hangover.”
Hit the jump to check out each of the four spots. Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover Part II stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Jamie Chung, and Ken Jeong. The film hits theaters on May 26th.

Jessica Stroup Takes on Seth MacFarlane’s TED

by Jason Barr   Posted: April 21st, 2011

Casting for Seth MacFarlane’s comedy Ted continues to take shape as Jessica Stroup (Beverly Hills 90210) has signed on to the project. Per THR, Stroup will make a turn as Mila Kunis’ office co-worker, “a woman who has slept with their boss” played by Community’s Joel McHale. Aside from her apparent promiscuity, further details regarding Stroup’s character are absent. In addition to Stroup, McHale, and Kunis, Ted also stars Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi, and Patrick Warburton.
For those unaware, Ted (co-written and directed by MacFarlane) tells the story of a grown man (Wahlberg) whose wish that his childhood teddy bear would come to life comes true. As the story goes, the bear (played by MacFarlane using motion-capture) is a full-on hot mess, complete with swearing and toking, and eventually wrecks said man’s life. Ted marks MacFarlane’s feature film debut and is set to hit theaters on July 13th, 2012.

Jeremy Renner Set to Topline THE BOURNE LEGACY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 21st, 2011

Well, it looks like the search is finally over. Universal Pictures has officially offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy. Deadline confirms what Latino Review reported earlier this month: that Renner will be taking over the franchise that kicked Matt Damon’s career into high-gear. Written and directed by Gilrory, the film will apparently take place in the same universe as Paul Greengrass and Doug Liman’s previous films, but won’t feature Damon’s Jason Bourne character (a fact that doesn’t seem to hinder Universal from strapping the Bourne name on the film). Legacy will further explore the Treadstone and Blackbriar mythos that permeated throughout the previous films, possibly exploring other similar agents and groups.
Universal cast a very wide net in searching for their Legacy star, with basically every fairly well-known male actor between the ages of 18-40 meeting for the role (names included Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Josh Hartnett, etc.). Hit the jump for more. ........... http://collider.com/jeremy-renner-the-bourne-legacy-2/87175/

Tim Roth Joins Nicholas Jarecki’s ARBITRAGE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 6th, 2011

Tim Roth is the latest actor to join the cast of writer/director Nicholas Jarecki’s indie drama Arbitrage. The film stars Richard Gere stars as “a troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire makes an error that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help.” Variety reports that Roth will play a detective who’s investigating a murder.
The film now boasts an impressive cast that includes Gere, Susan Sarandon, Eva Green, Aubrey Graham (also known as rapper Drake), and Sundance darling Brit Marling. Jarecki, who helmed the documentary The Outsider, is the brother of filmmakers Andrew and Eugene (Capturing the Friedmans). The cast that he’s assembled is intriguing, especially Marling, who was a breakout hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival having co-written and starred in two films that were featured: Another Earth and Sound of My Voice. Arbitrage is set to start filming this month in New York City.

Trailer: Steve Carell's "Crazy, Stupid, Love." Comedy

Posted: April 6th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Today we have the trailer for the upcoming "Crazy, Stupid, Love" comedy, starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon. Check it out below.

Plot: At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Carell) is living the dream--good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his "perfect" life quickly unravels. Worse, in today's single world, Cal, who hasn't dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth.

Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal's eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can't be found at Supercuts or The Gap. Cal and Emily aren't the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal's 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. And despite Cal's makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can't be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

Rise Of The Apes Retitled Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

published: 2011-04-06 17:41:01 Author: Eric Eisenberg
There is only one reason why a prequel to Planet of the Apes is coming out this summer: people know what Planet of the Apes is and the studio wants to capitalize on a known brand. Unfortunately, though, it would seem that some people couldn't make the connection between Rise of the Apes and Planet of the Apes, so Fox has decided to rename it.

ComicBookMovie has learned that after testing the title of the film, 20th Century Fox has decided to retitle the prequel, which will now be called Rise of the Planet of the Apes. SlashFilm has since confirmed the title change with the studio. This is not the first time that the project has undergone a name change, having previously been titled Caesar and Caesar: Rise of the Apes. Directed by Rupert Wyatt, the film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, Andy Serkis and Brian Cox and will be released on August 5.

Wow. Move over, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, we now have a new challenger for Worst Title of 2011. How the hell did this get through so many levels without someone pointing out that it says "of the" twice? Did people really think that this was the best choice? I truly hope not.

The MPAA Pulls THE HANGOVER: PART II Trailer from Theaters
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 6th, 2011
The MPAA once again proved their incompetence and ineptitude by pulling a trailer they’d previously approved for The Hangover: Part II. JoBlo reports that “Warner Bros. sent an urgent notice to all theater owners notifying them that all copies of the trailer “need to be destroyed” and all current placements, including and especially Source Code, need to be removed immediately.” Warner Bros. plans to release a “new” all audiences trailer attached to Scream 4. That’s right: the studio is releasing an all-audiences trailer attached to an R-rated movie.

Since the MPAA can’t remove or destroy the trailer from the Internet, hit the jump to watch it and discuss what parts you think were objectionable to horrified parents who thought watching Jake Gyllenhaal repeatedly blown to bits was wholesome family entertainment. The Hangover: Part II opens May 26th.

Keanu Reeves to Direct and Play Villain in MAN OF TAI CHI
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 6th, 2011
Keanu Reeves plans to make his directing debut on the kung-fu flick Man of Tai Chi. Reeves also tells MTV that he plans to play the villain in the movie, which would be set in the present day but recall classic kung-fu films. And the film won’t lack for kung-fu fighting:

“There’s 18 fights. We’ve timed it out. It’s about 40 minutes of fighting,” he said. “I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot — but let’s get some good kung fu going!”

Hit the jump for more details on the project. Reeves is currently shooting on Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin, which is due out in 3D on November 21, 2012 and centers on a group of former samurai avenging the murder of their lord.
Reeves says that Man of Tai Chi is set as a bilingual production:

“We want to do it in Chinese and English, do it as kind of a co-production with CFG perhaps, which is a Chinese film group, kind of a studio. It’s tricky.”

The “tricky” part most likely refers to not only to the international nature of the project, but the notorious Chinese censors who will let Reeves know what he can and can’t put in his movie.

Trailer for CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE. Starring Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 6th, 2011

Warner Bros. has released a trailer for the upcoming dramedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. and it looks surprisingly charming.  The film stars Steve Carell as a man struggling with his divorce and finding guidance from a ladies man played by Ryan Gosling. The strong cast also boasts Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon.  Crazy, Stupid, Love. looks like it’s going to have a tricky balancing act with making the humor not too broad and the drama not to schmaltzy, but I’m betting that I Love You Phillip Morris directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa can pull it off.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Crazy, Stupid, Love. opens July 29th.

Universal Offers Hugh Jackman Lead Role in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 6th, 2011

Universal has fallen behind in their race with Relativity to get a Snow White movie into development.  Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsmans was dealt a blow when Viggo Mortensen passed on the project, which stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen.  Now it looks like the studio is hoping to make up the difference in star power.  Deadline reports that Universal has offered Hugh Jackman the role of the Huntsman in the Rupert Sanders-directed re-imagining of the classic fairy tale.  Jackman was supposed to be at work on The Wolverine, but his schedule has opened up since director Darren Aronofsky left the project and shooting in Japan—the setting for the sequel—became untenable in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.  Of course, Jackman is involved as a producer on The Wolverine and is actively seeking a new director, with names like David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and Duncan Jones (Source Code) being mentioned as possible replacements.
Hit the jump for more on both Snow White projects.

First Image from CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: December 21st, 2010

Warner Bros. has released the first image from director’s Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (I Love You Phillip Morris) Crazy, Stupid, Love which features Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Jonah Bobo John Carroll Lynch, Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon, Analeigh Tipton, Josh Groban, Liza Lapira, and Joey King.  The premise is Steve Carell has been living the dream life (good job, nice house, great kids) when he finds out his wife wants a divorce.  Since he’s been out of the dating scene for decades, he starts spending his time with a thirty something player (Ryan Gosling) and he becomes his wingman and protege.  As you might imagine, comedy ensues.
While many of you missed I Love You Phillip Morris, it’s a gem that deserves your time.  In addition, Ficarra and Requa wrote Bad Santa, so anyone thinking Crazy, Stupid, Love might be a cookie cutter Hollywood release, I think it’s safe to assume it won’t be.  Personally, I can’t wait to check this out.  I’d imagine a trailer will hit soon. Until then, hit the jump for the full synopsis and the image.
CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE
In theaters on July 29
(Warner Bros. Pictures)
Directors: Glenn Ficarra and John Requa
Writer: Dan Fogelman
Producers: Steve Carell, Denise Di Novi
Executive Producers: David A. Siegel, Vance DeGeneres, Charlie Hartsock
Cast: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Jonah Bobo John Carroll Lynch, Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon, Analeigh Tipton, Josh Groban, Liza Lapira, Joey King
Comedy. At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream–good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or The Gap. Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. And despite Cal’s makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can’t be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

First Image of Jonah Hill from the Set of THE SITTER

by Ben Garman    Posted: December 21st, 2010

Director David Gordon Green is just about to wrap shooting on The Sitter, which means we’re due for the first image from the set of star Jonah Hill in costume.  Hill plays a college dropout who agrees to babysit three mischievous children, played by Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are), Kevin Hernandez, and Landry Bender.  The night takes a turn for the worse when Hill loses the cocaine of drug dealers of Sam Rockwell and J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), leading Hill and his charges on a chase through New York City.
The Sitter opens on July 15, 2011.  Hit the jump to check out the image.
Okay, so the image itself isn’t particularly mind blowing. But it’s early days. At least now we know Hill’s character wears dorky glasses and sports the old t-shirt/lumberjack shirt/hooded jacket combo. If I’m honest, Hill hasn’t really split my sides with laughter since Superbad.  But I’m fairly alone on that, I think, as fans of Get Him To The Greek will no doubt hasten to point out.
The Playlist calls the script for The Sitter is “quite funny,” which doesn’t excite much more than the image does.  However, comedy like this is usually as much visual as scripted, and no doubt the actors will ham it up with improvisation anyway.
Green has definitely changed his directorial palette in the past few years, veering away from dramas such as Undertow and All the Real Girls. Pineapple Express, his 2008 stoner flick, was very well-received. And he has since been working on the highly anticipated medieval comedy, Your Highness, with Danny McBride and James Franco. The question is, with The Sitter, can he be the director to finally make babysitting cool? Six months until we find out…

Anne Hathaway Talks About Her Judy Garland Project

by Jason Barr    Posted: December 21st, 2010

Anne Hathaway discussed her oft-delayed Judy Garland film earlier today, citing the project’s “sensitive” nature as the primary reason for its slow development.  According to BBC News (via an interview the actress did with BBC Radio Four’s Front Row), Hathaway said of the film:
“It’s a very sensitive project and there have been so many stories told about her life that we’re really trying to get it right.  So we’ve taking our time with it. I know it seems like it’s sort of an endless process but it’s very, very slow incremental steps.  I had a meeting about it a couple of weeks ago and we’re all very motivated.”
For more on the project and to find out what the Oscar-nominated actress had to say about singing in the film, hit the jump.  Hathaway can currently be seen alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Love and Other Drugs (a role for which she has been nominated for a Golden Globe).  She will also co-host the 83rd Annual Academy Awards with James Franco.
anne_hathaway_imageDuring the interview, Hathaway said she hoped that production on the film would begin in the next two years.  She also discussed the challenge of singing as the iconic Garland, saying:
“I certainly don’t sing like Judy Garland but the talk is to have me do the singing.  But I think people might cry murder if they don’t get to hear Judy’s beloved voice so the talk is for me to sing but I don’t know if that’s exactly what will happen.”
Hathaway’s involvement in the Garland project dates all the way back to 2009.  At that time, producer Harvey Weinstein claimed that the film would be based on the 2001 book by Gerald Clarke, Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland.  A New York Times bestseller, Clarke’s book utilizes hundreds of interviews and over ten years of preparation in telling of one of America’s most beloved entertainers.
Here is an extensive synopsis of Clarke’s book [from his website]:
Judy Garland. The girl with the pigtails, the symbol of innocence in The Wizard of Oz. Judy Garland. The brightest star of the Hollywood musical and an entertainer of almost magical power. Judy Garland. The woman of a half-dozen comebacks, a hundred heartbreaks, and countless thousands of headlines. Yet much of what has previously been written about her is either false or incomplete, and the Garland the world thought it knew was merely a sketch for the astonishing woman Gerald Clarke portrays in Get Happy. Here, more than thirty years after her death, is the real Judy.
Toward the end of her life, Garland tried to tell her own story, talking into a tape recorder for hours at a time. With access to those recordings-and to her unfinished manuscript, which offers a revelation on almost every page-Clarke is able to tell Judy’s story as she herself might have told it. “It’s going to be one hell of a great, everlastingly great book, with humor, tears, fun, emotion and love,” Judy promised of the autobiography she did not live to complete. But she might just as well have been describing Get Happy. For here at last-told with humor, tears, fun, emotion and love-is the true, unforgettable story of Judy Garland.
To tell her story, Clarke took ten years, traveled thousands of miles across two continents, conducted hundreds of interviews, and dug through mountains of documents, many of which were unavailable to other biographers. In a Tennessee courthouse, he came across a thick packet of papers, unopened for ninety years, that laid out the previously hidden background of Judy’s beloved father, Frank Gumm. In California, he found the unpublished memoir of Dorothy Ponedel, Judy’s makeup woman and closest confidante, a memoir centered almost entirely on Judy herself. Get Happy is, however, more than the story of one woman, remarkable as she was. It is a saga of a time and a place that now seem as far away, and as clouded in myth and mystery, as Camelot-the golden age of Hollywood. Combining a novelist’s skill and a movie director’s eye, Clarke re-creates that era with cinematic urgency, bringing to vivid life the unforgettable characters who played leading roles in the unending drama of Judy Garland: Louis B. Mayer, the patriarch of the world’s greatest fantasy factory, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Arthur Freed, the slovenly producer who revolutionized the movie musical and gave Judy her best and most enduring parts. Sexy Lana Turner, Judy’s friend and idol, who had a habit of trying to snatch away any man Judy expressed interest in.
And what men they were! Oscar Levant, the wit’s wit, whose one-liners could all but kill. Artie Shaw, whose sweet and satiny clarinet had a whole nation dancing. Handsome Tyrone Power, who caused millions of hearts to pound every time he looked out from the screen with his understanding eyes. Orson Welles, Hollywood’s boy genius and the husband of a movie goddess, Rita Hayworth. Brainy Joe Mankiewicz, who knew everything there was to know about women, but who confessed that he was baffled by Judy. Vincente Minnelli, who showed what wonders Judy could perform in front of a camera and who fathered her first child, Liza-but who also, with an act of shocking betrayal, caused her first suicide attempt. Charming, brawling Sid Luft, who gave her confidence, then took it away. And the smooth and seductive David Begelman, who stole her heart so he could steal her money.
