New posters for Puss in Boots and Crazy, Stupid, Love have been released today. A spinoff of the Shrek franchise, Puss in Boots features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Zach Galifianakis. Guillermo del Toro serves as a consultant on the film, and when Steve saw some footage earlier this year he was very impressed. The poster for Puss in Boots features a cat walking away from an explosion, so it’s automatically better than any other poster ever. The film opens in 3D on November 4th.
A poster for the dramedy Crazy, Stupid, Love has also been released. Steve Carell stars as a man still reeling from his divorce when he begins taking advice from a ladies man played by Ryan Gosling. In addition to Carell and Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon also star. Crazy, Stupid, Love hits theaters July 29th. Full Cast for Woody Allen’s Next Film THE BOP DECAMERON Announced, Includes Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin and Ellen Page

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 20th, 2011

Midnight in Paris is the best film Woody Allen has made in years. Whimsical, delightful and enchanting, it’s also one of the best times you’ll have at the movies all year. It’s this charm that I’m hoping Allen maintains for his next film The Bop Decameron, for which the full cast was just announced. Allen himself described this next effort as a “broad comedy,” and it’s set to shoot in Rome next month.
The cast for The Bop Decameron includes Allen himself, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page, with Alison Pill, Alessandra Mastronardi and more set to co-star. Hit the jump to read the full press release, which includes the full cast listing. http://collider.com/woody-allen-the-bop-decameron-cast/97570/

Darren Aronofsky Talks NOAH, Calls it His “Big Event Film”

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 20th, 2011

Coming off the major success of Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky is looking to go a little bigger. While he left The Wolverine for personal reasons, he’s now trying to get his long-in-the-works passion project Noah financed, with Christian Bale reportedly being eyed for the lead. Based on the biblical tale, John Logan is currently re-writing the script while the project is being shopped around Hollywood. Recently, the director talked a bit about his idea for the project, calling it “a big event film.” Hit the jump to see what else he had to say regarding Noah. http://collider.com/darren-aronofsky-noah/97560/

Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries Join THE HOBBIT

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 20th, 2011

Peter Jackson has added two more to the cast of The Hobbit. Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Australian actor Barry Humphries have joined the cast of the two-part adaptation, currently filming in New Zealand. Lilly will be playing a new character—The Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Beyond the name, Jackson is remiss to reveal any other information about the role. Humphries, a talented voice actor and comedian, will be playing the Goblin King using motion-capture, akin to Andy Serkis’ performance of Gollum.
Hit the jump to read Jackson’s fully statement on the casting news. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14th, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again hitting theaters on December 13th, 2013. http://collider.com/evangeline-lilly-barry-humphries-the-hobbit/97486/

New Trailer for SUPER 8; New Clips from HARRY POTTER and THE HELP

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 5th, 2011

The MTV Movie Awards are a time for fans to gather round, vote for their favorite massive franchise, and give it a bucket of golden popcorn that’s like an Oscar except no one cares.  No one ever got more clout or more box office from an MTV Movie Award.
It’s also a time to give new looks at upcoming films that will most likely be nominated for awards the following year.  At tonight’s MTV Movie Awards, viewers got a new trailer for Super 8 and new clips from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and The Help.  The Super 8 trailer is more action-heavy than the previous ones, but I’m glad that they’re still not showing the alien.  The Harry Potter clip is short but intense (is it July yet? No? Damn.) and the clip from The Help doesn’t have spectacle, but I’m always happy to watch performances from Emma Stone and Allison Janney.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the clips.  Super 8 opens this Friday.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opens in 3D on July 15th.  The Help opens August 12th. http://collider.com/super-8-trailer-harry-potter-deathly-hallows-2-clip-help-clip/94855/

Five Best Moments From The 2011 MTV Movie Awards

published: 2011-06-05 21:51:29 Author: Eric Eisenberg
I’m going to take this moment to be brutally honest: tonight’s MTV Movie Awards were just plain awful. Host Jason Sudeikis, who is normally pretty damn funny, relied on repetitive Arnold Schwarzenegger jokes for cheap laughs, the skits were awful and every single award was predictable and/or awful (the exception being Emma Stone’s win for Best Comedic Performance). Needless to say, finding five positive moments in tonight’s show was a struggle.

Below you will find a list of the only events from tonight’s show that didn’t cause viewers severe brain damage. It’s worth noting that all five moments, when totaled together, probably equal less than five minutes of the two-hour-plus program. We call them the best moments, but really it’s all relative. Check out our selections below. For a complete list of winners (the people who took home the golden popcorn) and losers (all of us), head over HERE.

Justin Timberlake And Mila Kunis Grope Each Other
Presenting the first award of the night, Best Male Performance, the Friends With Benefits co-stars began by mentioning that they aren’t dating and are, instead, just really good friends. Then the two actors proceeded to make both male and female members of the audience jealous as Timberlake reached out to grab Kunis’ sweater puppies while she returned the favor by grabbing his twig and berries. The moment was almost ruined by Timberlake’s clichéd falsetto voice, but let’s be real here: public genital grabbing always gets a pass.
Foo Fighters Performance
No, their performance didn’t have anything to do with movies directly, but since when are we writing off the Foo Fighters because of technicalities (also, the band was featured in a pretty sick documentary earlier this year). Performing “Walk,” the new single off of their album Wasting Light, the Foo Fighters rocked the house. What is the only sad thing about their performance? They were playing for a crowd of Twilight fans who wouldn’t recognize a great group like the Foo Fighters if the band stood behind them and pelted them with rocks.
Harry Potter Clip
The first trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was the definition of epic, and the clip shown at tonight’s MTV Movie Awards was no different. The scene begins with Voldemort waiting in the woods for Harry to come face him, but believes he is a no-show. That is, until he walks out of the woods to face his fate. “The boy who lives has come to die”: amazing.

Reece Witherspoon’s Advice To Young Girls
On stage to accept this year’s generation award, Witherspoon began her speech by mentioning the infamous kiss between Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson (which made this list last year), but made her own memorable moment as well by delivering a bit of advice. Presumably speaking about the recently leaked pictures of Blake Lively, Witherspoon offered the following: "Hide your face if you're gonna send naked pictures." It’s something the young starlets might want to keep in mind.
Gary Busey In A Hamster Ball
Sure, he was there to present an award to Twilight, but this is still Gary Busey we’re talking about. Arriving to present the award for Best Picture of the Year (according to MTV viewers), Busey rolled on stage in a giant plastic bubble saying that he only accepted the job because the bubble fit through the doors. Sure, it was scripted and not natural Busey-crazy, but he may actually believe that something is wrong with his immune system and stay in that ball for the rest of his life.

2011 MTV Movie Award Winners: Complete Results

published: 2011-06-05 17:44:05 Author: Mack Rawden
The MTV Movie Awards are like a televised drinking game for celebrities. It doesn’t even matter who wins or loses. No one remembers who won a beer pong game from five years ago, just like no one remembers who took home that popcorn statue. The whole point is for movie stars is to show up, have a few laughs with their friends and then call it a night. It sort of sounds like an insult said so overtly like that, but in actuality, it isn’t. There are literally dozens of awards shows every year. The Academy Awards matter. The Golden Globes and Emmys sort of matter. The Independent Spirit Awards have a nice off-beat charm to them. Everything else is mostly a pretentious waste of time, except the MTV Movie Awards that put up no pretense whatsoever. They know exactly what they are, and they’re fine with it. So am I.

Check out the complete list of 2011 MTV Movie Award winners below. Or skip down to the bottom to replay our interactive live blog of the event, in which Cinema Blenders hugged it out while Twilight ran away with everything.

Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, and Alec Baldwin Join Penelope Cruz in Untitled Woody Allen Film
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, and Alec Baldwin are joining Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen’s next feature film. Variety reports that the film is scheduled to shoot in Rome this summer. As usual, the plot and title are unknown at this point, but I’m willing to bet that if it’s a drama then the story will revolve around morals and murder, and if it’s a comedy there will be a neurotic Allen-surrogate. The casting of Eisenberg makes me think it’s the latter.

The untitled film will be the first collaboration with Allen for Eisenberg and Page, but it will be a reunion for Cruz and Baldwin. Cruz previously starred and won an Oscar for her work in 2008’s Vicky Christina Barcelona while Baldwin co-starred in Allen’s 1990 comedy Alice. Allen’s new film, Midnight in Paris, opens May 20th.

Hugh Laurie to Star in Andrew Adamson’s MR. PIP
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
Hugh Laurie is set to star in an adaptation of Lloyd Jones novel’ Mr. Pip for writer-director Andrew Adamson (Shrek 2). According to Risky Business, “Mr. Pip tells the story of the last white man left on the war-torn island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, who reopens a school and reads his favorite novel, Great Expectations, to the students, inspiring a gifted 14-year-old named Matilda.” For who can inspire a classroom full of fertile young minds better than The Last White Man (my rejected title for the film)?

Laurie is continuing to star on Fox’s House, and will co-star in the indie drama The Oranges with Leighton Meester and Catherine Keener. He’s also providing voice work for the upcoming animated film Arthur Christmas. Hit the jump for a statement from Laurie on joining Mr. Pip and a synopsis of the novel.

Diane Lane Reveals MAN OF STEEL Will Yet Again Show Superman’s Origin
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
It looks like we’re in for yet another telling of Superman’s backstory. Diane Lane, who plays Martha Kent, tells E! Online that the script for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is being kept under lock and key and she was given only three hours to read it. Lane says she can’t talk much about it (obviously), but does say Man of Steel “does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on.” I wish we would just get a quick montage of Superman’s youth, but with casting name-actors like Lane and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, it looks like we’re in for at least 40 minutes of stuff we already know.

Hit the jump for my thoughts on why it’s time to ditch the origin story for Superman. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, and Amy Adams. The film is set to open in December 2012. For all of our Superman coverage, click here.

Sally Field Set to Play Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 13th, 2011
Sally Field is officially set to portray Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming biopic Lincoln. After years of development, it looks like Spielberg is finally moving forward with the film. Daniel Day-Lewis is set to play Lincoln himself (long-attached Liam Neeson dropped out of the picture last summer). Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright/screenwriter Tony Kushner (Munich) wrote the screenplay based on the book Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Spielberg had this to say regarding Field’s casting:

“I’m excited to be working with Sally for the first time. I’ve admired her films and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.”

Field had been mentioned with regards to the role for quite a while, but she’s now officially signed on. The actress recently nabbed the role of Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man. Lincoln will focus on “the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.” Filming is set to begin this fall, with an eye towards a fourth-quarter 2012 release. This one just jumped to the top of my “most anticipated” list for 2012. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Mia Wasikowska Covers 'BlackBook' April 2011
Mia Wasikowska rocks mod inspired makeup on the cover of BlackBook magazine’s April 2011 issue.

Here’s what the 21-year-old Aussie actress had to share with editor Nick Haramis:

On Hollywood glamor: “I’m so lucky to have the best hairdressers and fashion stylists in the world, but when I’m at premieres I can’t wait to get home and put on my baggy pants. The glamor of Hollywood is such a myth. I can’t help worrying that I’ll trip on my heels, or that my makeup is smudging all over my face.”

On ballet: “Dance is about perfection. It’s about the line of your ankle, the ideal weight, minute things that most people don’t notice but that dancers are trained to see and spend hours obsessing over in front of the mirror. Dancers are kept in a perpetual state of pre-puberty, and for young girls in particular, that type of pressure breeds insecurities. You can become so obsessed with the smallest details - it was a good thing for me to get out of.”

On the strength of her character, Jane Eyre: “Jane is such a modern character. If you put her in contemporary society, she’d be running Parliament. There’s something so remarkable about a woman who feels worthy of respect regardless of her social status.”

FYI: Mia is wearing a Michael Kors dress and necklace.

**Michelle William's "Meek's Cutoff" Trailer **Joel McHale Joins Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in Seth MacFarlane’s TED **New Trailer for MIRAL Starring Freida Pinto **New Posters Released for SUPER Starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, and Disney’s WINNIE THE POOH

Joel McHale Joins Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in Seth MacFarlane’s TED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Joel McHale is in final negotiations to join the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy Ted.  The story centers on a man (Mark Wahlberg) who’s life is complicated when his childhood wish for his teddy bear, Ted (voiced and played by MacFarlane via motion capture), comes to life.  Kunis will play the girlfriend of Wahlberg’s character who wants marriage, but only if her boyfriend gets a handle on his relationship with his pot-smoking, foul-mouthed, now-alive teddy bear.  Deadline reports that “McHale will play Rex, the sleazy boss who is perpetually putting the moves on Kunis’ character.”
In addition to starring on NBC’s Community (the best comedy on TV that you’re not watching) and hosting E!’s The Soup, McHale has three films set to come out this year: Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World (August 19th), the Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number (September 30th), and The Big Year co-starring Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson (October 14th).  He’s also hosting the Independent Spirit Awards, which air tomorrow night at 10pm on IFC.

New Trailer for MIRAL Starring Freida Pinto

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

The Weinstein Company have release a new trailer for Miral, the new film from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly director Julian Schnabel.  A French trailer for the film went online last summer, but I had trouble gathering what the story was about.  This new trailer does a better job of explaining that Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) plays a student who gets caught up in the events of the Intifada resistance.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Miral opens March 25th.

New posters have been released for two upcoming films: Super and Winnie the Pooh. Directed by James Gunn (Slither), Super tells the story of an average guy who takes on the persona of “The Crimson Bolt” upon learning that his wife is having an affair. The film stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon. IFC is set to release the film on April 1st.
The “bear of little brain” returns to the big screen in Disney’s Winnie the Pooh. Narrated by John Cleese, the 2D “hand-drawn style” animated film follows Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga and Roo on an all-new adventure to help Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh is slated for a July 15th release. Hit the jump to check out both posters.

Guy Pearce Was Almost in "Batman Begins"

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Fans have been expecting Guy Pearce (Memento) to appear in one of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, but it has yet to happen. According to the actor, Nolan actually approached him to play a role in "Batman Begins."

"Chris Nolan flew me to London to talk about one of the other roles in ['Batman Begins']," he said. "It was Liam Neeson's role. And there was talk about having the mentor be the same age as Christian Bale, rather than be an older mentor. But maybe they tossed the idea around and other people went, 'No, that's not gonna work.'"

Pearce went on to say that he was also offered the chance to play the lead in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie, which Ben Affleck ended up starring in.

"I was offered the first 'Daredevil,' yeah," he explained, adding that he eventually turned down the role. "It wasn't really my — I mean, I wasn't really sort of — I don't know. Comic-strip stuff isn't really my cup of tea."

Emma Stone Passes on 21 JUMP STREET; Begins Shooting on SPIDER-MAN Reboot in 2 Weeks

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 24th, 2010

Easy_A_movie_image_Emma_Stone_slice
Back in September, we reported that Emma Stone has been offered a leading role in the upcoming adaptation of 21 Jump Street.  Unfortunately, Stone tells MTV that she has passed on the project:
“I don’t think I’m going to be part of that, but Jonah [Hill] is one of my favorite people in the entire world.”
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs), 21 Jump Street is based off the 1980s TV series and stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.  Hit the jump for what Stone had to say regarding her role as Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot.  21 Jump Street is currently set for release on March 16, 2012.

Stone also tells MTV that she expects they’ll start shooting on the Spider-Man reboot in two weeks and how it’s nice to be back to her natural blonde hair:
Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so it’s kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, “Oh my god, it’s me again, it’s been so long!” We’re finalizing the visual stuff. And I think we’ll start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks. Andrew [Garfield] and I went and learned about science yesterday. Gwen really likes science, so we learned about science. I was home-schooled, so I never went to chemistry class in a traditional setting like Gwen is into. That was really beneficial.
The upcoming Spider-Man reboot will be in 3D and also stars Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.  It’s set for release on July 3, 2012.

Alternate Poster for INCEPTION

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: November 24th, 2010

It’s not like Inception didn’t release an impressive set of posters leading up to its July release.  It did.  Very much so.
But the DVD drops in just under a fortnight, on December 7th.  As part of the promotional push, Warner Bros. has been releasing a few odds and ends through the messaging service SnapTag.  The latest odd (or end, if you prefer) is an alternate poster that was heretofore unreleased.  It’s worth a look after the jump.

SnapTag promises at least two more bits before the “Final Kick” on 12/7.  Check out the site for details.

Christopher Nolan (Somewhat) Explains INCEPTION

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 24th, 2010

Inception is a fun movie to talk about thanks to its ambiguity.  If writer-director Christopher Nolan were to come along and tell you exactly what happened, he would only be destroying the ambiguity he built into the film.  In the latest issue of Wired (issue 18.12), Nolan provides a little clarification on some of the debated points about his film, but doesn’t spoil the whole thing.  Wired lays out the article as a chart with different arguments about the text (“The Entire Movie Is a Dream”, “Just the Ending is a Dream”) and the sub-text (“The Movie is a Meditation on Architecture”, “It’s About Movie-Making”).  Hit the jump for Nolan’s responses to some of the theories.  Obviously, spoilers ahead.
Thanks to Wired for this awesome article.  The whole issue is great and you should definitely pick it up.

What’s happening in the movie: After the first extraction fails, Cobb spins his top to check if he is in a dream.  It falls over.
“The Ending Is Not a Dream” Argument: This establishes context for the audience—the movie is not all a dream.
Nolan’s Comment:  “This gives Cobb a base-line reality.  But he’s an untrustworthy narrator.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Saito says he’ll clear Cobb’s name if he takes the job.  He asks Cobb to take “a leap of faith.”
“The Entire Movie Is a Dream” Argument: The phrase “leap of faith” occurs over and over.  It’s an artifact of Cobb’s subconscious.
Nolan’s Comment: “I don’t think I’m going to tell you about this.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Cobb starts assembling his team and trains Ariadne in dreamweaving.
“Actually, It’s About Movie-Making” Argument: All the roles correspond.  Cobb: director.  Ariadne: writer.  Eames: art director.  Saito: producer.  Fischer: audience.
Nolan’s Comment: “I didn’t intend to make a film about film-making, but I gravitated toward the creative process that I know.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Cobb goes to Mombasa to get Eames the forger and Yusuf the chemist.
“Or Maybe It’s a Meditation on Architecture” Argument: A beautiful pan across the rooftops of Mombasa.
Nolan’s Comment: “I wanted to show the potential for the real world to have analogies to the dream world.  The mazelike city of Mombasa does that.”
“Actually, It’s About Movie-Making” Argument: Smash cuts, mysterious chases, implausible coincidences—the grammar of film is the grammar of dreams.
Nolan’s Comment: “I wouldn’t say that I tried to use the grammar of the film to tell the audience what is dream and what is reality.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Cobb confronts Mal in limbo, and Fischer is incepted in the hospital.
“The Entire Movie Is a Dream” Argument: Mal challenges Cobb’s reality.  Faceless corporations?  Chased around the globe?  Really?
Nolan’s Comment: “For the ambiguity at the end to work, you need to see that Cobb’s world and the dream world are very similar.  And you need to doubt Cobb.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Cobb washes up on the beach (full circle with beginning).
“Just the Ending Is a Dream” Argument: Saito honors his agreement.  They build limbo to be their reality together.
Nolan’s Comment: “Uh…that’s not how I would have read the movie.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Arriving home, Cobb finally sees his children’s faces.
“The Entire Movie Is a Dream” Argument: The kids haven’t aged!  And they’re in the same clothes!  This is clearly all a dream.
Nolan’s Comment: “The kids are not wearing the same clothes at the end!  And they do age!  We were working with two sets of kids.”
“Or Maybe It’s a Meditation on Architecture” Argument: It’s the golden-lit craftsman dream home…with a house made of blocks on the dining table.
Nolan’s Comment: “The film is about architects.  It’s about builders.”
Inception-movie-image
What’s happening in the movie: Cobb spins the top—it’s still spinning when the movie cuts to black.
“The Entire Movie Is a Dream” Argument: The top doesn’t matter—Cobb can finally see his children’s faces.
Nolan’s Comment: “The important thing is that Cobb’s not looking at the top.  He doesn’t care.”
“Or Maybe It’s a Meditation on Architecture” Argument: The top itself is constructed—topologically, it’s a pseudosphere, every point curving away.
Nolan’s Comment: “The prop guys just made a top that would spin for a long time.”
“Actually, It’s About Movie-Making” Argument: The audience has to “take a leap of faith.”  Nolan uses ambiguity as a storytelling tool.  There isn’t just one answer.
Nolan’s Comment: “Oh no, I’ve got an answer…”
