Amy Adams and Lena Endre Join Paul Thomas Anderson’s Untitled Religious Drama

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 1st, 2011

Last month, we reported that in addition to Joaquin Phoenix signing on to star opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled religious drama, actresses Madisen Beaty (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) Amy Adams, Lena Endre (2009′s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Laura Dern were also circling the project.  Earlier this week, we reported that Dern was on board (along with Jesse Plemons and David Warshofsky) and now we’ve learned that Endre and Adams have also joined the flick.  The Playlist reports that Endre’s role is currently unknown while Deadline is reporting that Adams will play the wife of Hoffman’s character, Lancaster Dodd.
The story is set in the 1950s and centers on Dodd, a World War II veteran, who starts a new religion after being haunted by the horrors of battle.  He then takes in an alcoholic drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man.  Earlier drafts of the script heavily implied that the movie was based on L. Ron Hubbard and the founding of the Church of Scientology, but that aspect may have been reduced in later drafts.  I’m not familiar with Endre’s work, but I’m a huge fan of Adams and this cast continues to impress. http://collider.com/amy-adams-lena-endre-paul-thomas-anderson-religious-drama/94053/

David Fincher Options Crime Novel PANIC ATTACK

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 1st, 2011

David Fincher is panicking.  He previously directed Panic Room, he recently set up the company Panic Pictures (which is under Media Rights Capital), and now he’s optioned the rights to Jason Starr’s 2009 crime novel Panic Attack.  Per Vulture, the book is “about a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.”  Starr says about his book, “And the thing about Panic Attack is that there’s a really compelling antihero in this guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family].  He’s a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath.”  Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) will write the script.
While Fincher has picked up the option, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s directing.  He could simply be serving as a producer as he’s doing on the potential adaptation of the comic book series The Goon.  Hit the jump for a list of Fincher’s other upcoming potential projects as well as the official synopsis of the novel. http://collider.com/david-fincher-panic-attack/94049/

New Images from TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

A few new images from Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon have hit the net.  As most of you know, I’ve seen a lot of footage from the 3rd installment and everything is telling me that Bay has made something special and it’s going to be a huge improvement over Revenge of the Fallen.  Also, unlike a lot of filmmakers that don’t know how to use 3D, Bay is using 3D to help tell the story.  I think TF3 will be the best looking live action 3D movie since Avatar.  Hit the jump for new images of Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Josh Duhamel and Michael Bay.

Second Horrible Bosses Trailer and Clip

Jun 2, 2011 by Courtney O.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a second trailer and the first clip from director Seth Gordon's Horrible Bosses, which comes to theaters July 8. Check out the clips below!
In the film, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable for Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) would be to grind their intolerable bosses (Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston) into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con (Jamie Foxx), the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Fright Night 2 Being Planned, May Star David Tennant And McLovin

published: 2011-06-01 13:51:35 Author: Josh Tyler
Director Craig Gillespie’s remake of Fright Night won’t be out till August, but if any of what we saw during out visit behind the scenes pans out, there’s a chance that this particular redo could be really good. Apparently DreamWorks agrees, because internally at least, they’re already talking sequel.

The original 1985 movie got a sequel too, in the form of 1988’s not particularly well remembered Fright Night Part 2. That movie didn’t really pick up where the original left off, but we hear that this new sequel, if it happens, will be a direct sequel to the remake. To do that, they’ll have to abandon most of the cast (for spoilery reasons, if you’ve seen the original Fright Night you know why) and instead of having the sequel star Anton Yelchin and Colin Ferrell, Fright Night 2 will star David Tennant with a little help from Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

In the current Fright Night Tennant is set to play Vegas magician Peter Vincent. Vincent is set to be more of a side character in the remake, a performer who specializes in horror-themed tricks. But since he’s played by the infinitely awesome former Doctor David Tennant, don’t be surprised if he ends up stealing scenes. Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse on the other hand, is a best friend character named Evil Ed.

Our source tells us that DreamWorks is considering turning the franchise over to David Tennant for Fright Night 2. The followup would take place in a new city where Peter Vincent not only has to deal with vampires, but potentially other unexpected problems. Evil Ed wouldn’t be the movie’s villain, they’d go another direction, but Evil Ed will be in it.

Doctor Who fans should be elated at the prospect of David Tennant finally getting his due with a starring role in a major studio project, but for now everything hinges on how audiences respond to the remake. The sequel is being discussed internally, Craig Gillespie might even be back in the director’s chair for the second one, but nothing will be set in motion until the Fright Night remake hits theaters and either gets a thumbs up or thumbs down from the crowds. Until then, file this under rumor.

True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld Could Be The New Carrie

published: 2011-06-01 13:26:31 Author: Josh Tyler
Hailee Steinfeld was widely praised for her work as Mattie Ross in True Grit last year. Normally that kind of acclaim results in having your name attached to every age-appropriate project circulating in Hollywood, but somehow that hasn’t happened for Hailee. She’s doing a Romeo & Juliet movie, but that’s been it. Until now, when we're hearing that she may star in the impending remake of Stephen King’s Carrie.

The remake is in development right now, with a script being written by the guy who wrote a comic book adaptation of King’s The Stand. Megan Fox has been lobbying to play Carrie, but let’s face it, no one actually believes she’ll get it, or if she did that she’d be any good at it. Hailee Steinfeld on the other hand, would be perfect.

Word of her potential involvement comes from one of our most proven sources. We hear that Carrie’s producers are eyeing Hailee Steinfeld as a top candidate for the part of the tormented high school girl played by Sissy Spacek in the original. That doesn’t mean, of course, that Hailee has it… or even wants it. The script is still being written and they won’t make any decisions until it’s done, nor are the film’s producers likely to confirm which direction they’re leaning. For now just consider Hailee as a possibility, a really good kind of possibility. Hire Steinfeld as Carrie and we’ll all have a good reason to get interested in this remake.

Jennifer Aniston: New 'Horrible Bosses' Trailer!
Jennifer Aniston holds a patient’s hand on her breast in the just released second trailer for Horrible Bosses.
The original trailer for the film featured the 42-year-old actress in lingerie taking suggestive bites into a banana and an ice pop!
Horrible Bosses is about three men (Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, and Jason Sudeikis) who are all treated horribly by their bosses (Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey) and use advice from an ex con (Jamie Foxx) to conspire a plan to kill them.

Director Phillip Noyce Set for Remake of BLOODSPORT
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 17th, 2011 at 9:03 am

You know what I was thinking the other day? A lot of things, but not among them: “The world needs a remake of the 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme action flick Bloodsport.” But we’re getting it anyway as ScreenDaily reports that director Phillip Noyce (Salt) will helm the remake (or as it’s being called, a “reinvention”, which is a fancier way of saying remake) for producers Ed Pressman and Alberto Lensi. The original film was about a soldier who goes AWOL to fight in a tournament so he can uphold his master’s honor. Robert Mark Kamen (Taken) wrote the script for the remake, which will follow “an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest.” Yes, that logic makes no sense.

Noyce is also attached to direct an adaptation of Tim Winton’s Dirt Music, the time-travel flick Timeless, the submarine action-thriller Hunter Killer, and the drama Our Wild Life. It’s not surprising that he would be attached to such a diversity of projects although he usually traffics in the thriller genre with an edge towards espionage.

Ridley Scott to Produce and Direct Cold War Drama REYKJAVIK
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 17th, 2011 at 8:26 am

If you’re wondering how Ridley Scott keeps so busy, it’s because he’s attached to about 5,236 different project at any one time. That’s how he’s come out with eight films in the last ten years. While we won’t be getting a Scott film this year, he’s currently hard at work at the Alien-prequel-but-not-an-Alien-prequel, Prometheus. He’s also continuing to attach himself to new movies, the latest being the Cold War drama Reykjavik.

ScreenDaily reports that the film, written by Kevin Hood (Becoming Jane), “is about the meeting between US president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the mid-1980s which helped bring about the end of the Cold War.” Headline Pictures will develop along with Participant Media. Hit the jump for a refresher on other movies Scott might make once he’s finished with Prometheus, which opens in 3D on June 8, 2012.

Promo Poster for ON THE ROAD

on-the-road-promo-poster-slice-01
It has taken decades to get Jack Kerouac’s On the Road on the big screens, but producer Francis Ford Coppola and director Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) have finally done it. Filming took place last year and the movie will likely make the festival rounds this fall. However, you need to get past a cast that’s a mixture of “great” and “sometimes good”. In the “great” category, you have Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Terrence Howard, and Sam Riley. And then as lead characters Dean Moriarty, Marylou, and Camille, you have Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, and Kirsten Dunst, respectively. It’s a diverse cast and I’m hoping that they all deliver, but expectations tend to build when you’re adapting a modern literary classic.

Not Casting Call: Amy Adams Passes on ROCK OF AGES; Hugh Jackman Won’t Star in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
Today in not-casting news, we have updates to a couple of our previous stories. First up, Deadline is reporting that while Russell Brand is confirmed for Rock of Ages, Amy Adams has passed on the role of a journalist who sleeps with rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Like Anne Hathaway before her, Adams had a scheduling conflict due to a leading role in a superhero movie. In this case, Adams will be busy playing Lois Lane in Man of Steel. Rock of Ages is currently set to open on June 1, 2012.

In a related non-casting story, The Wrap reports that Hugh Jackman won’t play the Huntsman in Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. The project continues to look for a male lead after Viggo Mortensen passed on the movie last month. Kristen Stewart is in talks to play Snow White who is taught how to survive by the Huntsman. Charlize Theron is confirmed to play the evil queen. Snow White and the Huntsman is slated to be released on December 21, 2012.

**Amy Adams Cast as Lois Lane in SUPERMAN Reboot **5 Clips from HANNA

Amy Adams is Lois Lane in "Superman" Reboot
Posted: March 27th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros has announced that Amy Adams (The Fighter) has been cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming "Superman" reboot, joining Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.

"Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," said Snyder. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."

"Superman: Man of Steel" is planning to begin shooting in August in Chicago, where the film will spend ten weeks before moving indoors in Vancouver. The $175 million movie will be filming under the name "Autumn Frost" and is set to hit theaters in December of 2012.

Amy Adams Is Lois Lane In Zack Snyder's Superman
published: 2011-03-27 12:29:56 Author: Katey Rich
The news that Henry Cavill would be playing Superman for Zack Snyder first broke on a Sunday afternoon in January, so I guess it's no surprise that another huge bit of casting information has come on a slow weekend afternoon. According to The LA Times, Amy Adams has been cast to play Lois Lane in the film; Snyder phoned Adams today and gave her the news, and gave the following quote to the Times:

“There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”Contrary to earlier rumors that Lois might not even be part of the new Superman movie, Snyder called the character "a linchpin" of the story, and discussed updating the character for modern audiences and keeping her as part of "the same universe" as his new take on Superman:

“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well."Adams, fresh off an Oscar nomination for The Fighter, had also been part of the discussion recently for the movie musical Rock of Ages; it's unclear if playing Lois will get in the way of that, but I can't really imagine how both might happen. Her name was never mentioned amid the many crazy Lois Lane rumors we saw in the last few months, most of which revolved around actresses younger than the 36-year-old Adams. She's a fair bit older than the 27-year-old Cavill, but in most incarnations of the character Lois is a professional, working journalist, a woman who needs to be more than a 24-year-old hottie.

More than anything Adams' casting excites me because she's a good actress capable of displaying strength and personality, something that's often hard for women to do when they're part of giant, male-centric superhero movies. Argue all you want about Snyder's attitude toward the young female leads of his new film Sucker Punch, but Adams seems undoubtedly a step in the right direction of female strength.

Amy Adams Cast as Lois Lane in SUPERMAN Reboot
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 27th, 2011
Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane, fellow Daily Planet journalist and romantic interest of Clark Kent, in the Superman reboot. Adams is the fourth official cast member to join the Superman reboot: Henry Cavill (The Tudors) is Clark Kent/Superman; Diane Lane and Kevin Costner will play Clark’s adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent.

In keeping with the secrecy surrounding plot details, director Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch) declined to comment on the prominence of Lois Lane or the nature of her character arc in the movie, but he did call the role “a linchpin” to the project. Read more of what Snyder had to say about signing Adams after the break.

5 Clips from HANNA Starring Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: March 27th, 2011
Focus Features has given us 5 clips from director Joe Wright’s (Atonement) action/survival film Hanna. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana, the film tells the story of a 16-year-old trained assassin (Ronan) whose perpetual fleeing an intelligence agent takes her across Europe. While I’m embargoed from saying too much, I don’t think Focus will be upset if I tell you I thought Hanna was fantastic. Also, the music by The Chemical Brothers fits the movie perfectly. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for the past few days almost nonstop. Definitely recommended.

Zack Snyder Says "300" Sequel Script is Finished

Posted: March 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We've been hearing that Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) would direct a sequel to "300" if Frank Miller ever penned a sequel to the original graphic novel. Miller did exactly that, and Snyder kept his word by getting to work on the script.

But then Snyder was hired to direct the upcoming "Superman" reboot and has found himself incredibly busy. MTV just caught up with him and asked for an updated on the "300" sequel, called "Xerxes."

"['300' co-writer Kurt Johnstadt] and I have finished the script," he confirmed. "We have a script and it would be cool to make it." When asked if he'll direct it, Snyder replied: "We'll see. If I have time."

Tom Hooper Will Direct The Les Miserables Movie Musical

published: 2011-03-24 20:06:57 Author: Katey Rich
Tom Hooper dutifully spent nearly six months promoting The King's Speech, turning the film from a festival darling into a Best Picture winner, and nabbing his own Best Director trophy in the process. Since February's Oscar ceremony Hooper has been keeping quiet and weighing his next move-- he wasn't attached to any new film before The King's Speech was released, but according to Deadline he may have finally figured out what he wants to do next.

As rumored back in February, around the same time he turned down the job of directing Iron Man 3, Hooper is making a deal at Universal to direct Les Miserables, an adaptation of the gigantic Broadway musical based on Victor Hugo's novel. There's no promise that it will definitely be his next film, but with production aiming to start before the year is over and a huge amount of pre-production required for a film this large, it kind of seems like the only choice.

The 1998 movie Les Miserables was only a take on the original Hugo story, which would make Hooper's film the first movie adaptation of the musical that's been running seemingly continuously worldwide since it opened in 1985. The epic story revolves around the French Revolution, focusing on the convict Jean Valjean-- arrested for stealing a loaf of bread-- and the dogged inspector, Javert, who wants him brought back to jail after breaking parole. Full of rousing speeches, plaintive ballads-- "On My Own," "Castle on a Cloud"-- and a showstopper attack on the Bastille, it's classic 1980s Broadway cheese, and yet, a story so large it kind of demands to be seen on the big screen.

Hooper has only two films behind him, the earlier one being The Damned United, and has no serious professional background in musical theater. But hey, the guy has an Oscar speaking to his talents, and nobody ever wants to invest in giant musicals anymore. If this is the next gamble Universal wants to take on an artist, I'll be happily singing along in the audience when it hits theaters.

Paul Giamatti Signs On And Amy Adams Being Courted For A Role In Rock Of Ages

published: 2011-03-24 15:00:32 Author: Eric Eisenberg
After the news came out yesterday that Warner Bros. would be releasing the Broadway musical adaptation of Rock of Ages onJune 1, 2012, director Adam Shankman sent out a Tweet saying, "I just heard the news: #rockofagesmovie is being released June 1, 2012. I guess I better start making it soon... Rehearsals start in 2 weeks." That could explain why two new bits of casting news just came up.

Deadline reports (in separate stories) is reporting that Paul Giamatti will be joining the cast and Amy Adams is being courted for a part in Rock of Ages. Giamatti will play the manager of Arsenal, the band led by Stacee Jax, who is being played by Tom Cruise; while Adams is being considered for the part that was offered to Anne Hathaway last month (who will be unavailable due to the fact that she will be playing with Batman in The Dark Knight Rises). Should the actress choose to accept the part, she will play a journalist who ends up sleeping with Jax.

While I'm not exactly what you'd call a "musical kind of guy," I must say that I am impressed by the names being put together so far. In addition to the above, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Julianne Hough have all been locked in and it's hard for me to be too upset about a soundtrack that includes Twisted Sister, Journey and Pat Benatar. You have to wonder who will pop up next.

Amy Adams Offered Role in ROCK OF AGES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 24th, 2011

Amy Adams is reportedly being “heavily courted” to join Adam Shankman’s upcoming musical, Rock of AgesDeadline reports that Adams is being offered the role of a journalist who plans to write a scathing expose of decaent rock star Stacee Jax (played by Tom Cruise) but ends up sleeping with him instead after they do a duet of Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is”.  The role was initially offered to Anne Hathaway, but the scheduling conflicted with her time playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
Adams previously did some fantastic singing in Enchanted and she’s set to sing again in The Muppets.  If Adams signs on to Rock of Ages, she’ll join not only Cruise, but also Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Julianne Hough.  Deadline reports that we should know by early next week if Adams has taken the gig.  Rock of Ages is currently set to open on June 1, 2012.

Joel Edgerton, Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund, and Luke Evans Testing for Lead in THE BOURNE LEGACY

by Jason Barr    Posted: March 24th, 2011

With Universal’s The Bourne Legacy staring down the barrel of an August 3, 2012 release, the studio is finally bringing some tangible casting work to the forefront.  Per Deadline, four actors are currently scheduled to screen test for the film’s male lead at the beginning of April: Joel Edgerton (forthcoming remake of The Thing), Dominic Cooper (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans).
While the report is quick to mention that the actor eventually cast for the role may fall outside of the four listed here (for example, both Shia LaBeouf and Taylor Kitsch are believed to be in the mix, although neither is expected to test for the role at this time), this news at least gives fans of the franchise an idea of how Universal is approaching writer/director Tony Gilroy’s spin-off installment. It is believed that the studio sees the Bourne franchise itself as being more important to the film’s overall success than a huge name lead to place at the top of its marketing materials. With this in mind, and with production set to get underway later this year, I expect this story to be the tip of the casting iceberg surrounding The Bourne Legacy.

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: March 24th, 2011

Director Zack Snyder is currently filling out his cast for the upcoming Superman reboot and, unsurprisingly, the rumor mill is heating up with names of actors in line to play the villain in the film. Henry Cavill is set as the Man of Steel himself, with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane poised to play his adoptive parents. Now, Deadline is reporting that the parties-that-be are interested in actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) for the villain. Shannon’s a supremely talented guy, and has gained considerable (and well-deserved) recognition as of late, following his Oscar-nominated turn in Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road.
In addition, Latino Review reports that Edgar Ramirez (Carlos) is being eyed for the villain role as well. Exactly which villain Superman will face off against in the film is currently unknown. Now, this being a comic-book movie and all, these casting reports could very well turn out to be simply nothing more than rumor. At this point, no one’s saying for sure. But with production set to start relatively soon on the Christopher Nolan-produced flick, expect more casting announcements/rumors in the coming weeks.

Juno Temple Confirmed for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Jason Barr   Posted: March 24th, 2011

Last week, we reported that UK actress Juno Temple (Atonement) was in talks to join Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. As of today, those talks have officially ended as Temple has been confirmed for her role as a “street-smart Gotham girl.” While Variety fails to offer up more details regarding Temple’s character, rumors and speculation are already stacking up on the interwebs (hard to believe, right?) that Temple could be playing any Bat-character from Catwoman-sidekick Holly Robinson to current Batgirl Stephanie Brown.
Just for funsies, feel free to join me after the jump for a quick breakdown of some of Temple’s potential roles. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, 2012.
