Director Justin Lin Talks about Possibility of Directing a New TERMINATOR Film
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
In February, we reported that Universal was interested in resurrecting the Terminator franchise with Fast Five director Justin Lin at the helm. Our partners at Omelete spoke with Lin today at the Fast Five press junket and got him to comment on the possibility of reviving the Terminator franchise. Briefly, Lin says he has a take on Terminator he would like to see and that he’s spoken with Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, he’s also looking at other projects and hasn’t decided what will be his next directing gig.

Hit the jump for the full quote from Lin. Fast Five opens April 29th.

Not Casting Call: Amy Adams Passes on ROCK OF AGES; Hugh Jackman Won’t Star in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
by Matt Goldberg Posted: April 13th, 2011
Today in not-casting news, we have updates to a couple of our previous stories. First up, Deadline is reporting that while Russell Brand is confirmed for Rock of Ages, Amy Adams has passed on the role of a journalist who sleeps with rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Like Anne Hathaway before her, Adams had a scheduling conflict due to a leading role in a superhero movie. In this case, Adams will be busy playing Lois Lane in Man of Steel. Rock of Ages is currently set to open on June 1, 2012.

In a related non-casting story, The Wrap reports that Hugh Jackman won’t play the Huntsman in Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. The project continues to look for a male lead after Viggo Mortensen passed on the movie last month. Kristen Stewart is in talks to play Snow White who is taught how to survive by the Huntsman. Charlize Theron is confirmed to play the evil queen. Snow White and the Huntsman is slated to be released on December 21, 2012.

**De Niro Confirms I Heard You Paint Houses With Scorsese, Pacino And Pesci **James Franco and Cate Blanchett Drop Out of WHILE WE’RE YOUNG **Adam Shankman Confirms Alec Baldwin, Mary J. James Franco and Cate Blanchett Drop Out of WHILE WE’RE YOUNG
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 6th, 2011
Noah Baumbach (Greenberg) had an excellent cast lined up for his next feature: Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig, James Franco, Cate Blanchett. It is with great regret that I use the past tense. Scheduling issues kept Gerwig from committing, and Just Jared reports that Franco and Blanchett have dropped out. Filming on While We’re Young was set to begin in New York in June, but Franco will be busy shooting Oz, the Great and Powerful. Blanchett’s motivation is not specified, but it’s possible there is overlap with her time on set for the sure-to-be sprawling production on The Hobbit, which starts shooting later this month. More on While We’re Young after the break:

Adam Shankman Confirms Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Tom Cruise, and Julianne Hough for ROCK OF AGES
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 6th, 2011
Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, and Julianne Hough have spent recent weeks negotiating with New Line to star in Rock of Ages. Director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) has confirmed their involvement via Twitter. Shankman also promises “more to come,” which may address the rumored involvement of Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Russell Brand.

Justin Theroux (Iron Man 2) is currently polishing the script written by Allan Loeb (The Switch) based on the Broadway musical about a small town girl (Hough) who falls in love with a rocker in the fictionally famous LA rock club, The Bourbon Club. Set in 1987, the stage show is fueled by the hair metal of the era, including songs by Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagan, Pat Benatar, and Twisted Sister.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Considering "Terminator," "Predator" and "Running Man" Remakes
Posted: March 7th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We've been hearing that Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to return to acting and is already considering one of three scripts. Now, during The Arnold Classic, Schwarzenegger was asked to give an update on which projects he's looking at.

"Well, first of all it's more [like] fifteen films," he stated. "Obvious ones from 'The Terminator' to remakes of 'Predator' and 'The Running Man' and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too."

It was reported last month that director Justin Lin and writer Chris Morgan, who are currently working on "Fast Five" together, are in talks for a fifth "Terminator" movie. And having Schwarzenegger on board would be amazing.

Schwarzenegger added: "I am also packaging a comic book character right now. I'm going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April."

De Niro Confirms I Heard You Paint Houses With Scorsese, Pacino And Pesci

published: 2011-03-06 12:30:19 Author: Perri Nemiroff
For anyone that keeps an eye on movie development news, you know that sometimes stars say things that aren’t exactly true or talk about potential projects that aren’t guarantees in the least. Well, that’s kind of what we have here, but the fact that the news comes from Robert De Niro certainly gives the information a great deal of authenticity. When the guy talks, you just believe him.

We heard a little about Martin Scorsese’s plan to direct a film version of Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses with De Niro starring, way back in
October 2008. Since then, it’s merely been rumblings of Joe Pesci and Al Pacino’s potential involvement. Well, now the foursome seems like a sure thing because while promoting his upcoming film Limitless, De Niro flat out said:
It’s a movie based on a book called I Heard You Paint Houses. It’s about a guy who is - and I believe the book – says he’s now passed away, but he confessed that he killed Hoffa and also Joe Gallo over here on Hester Street. And so I’m going to play that character, Joe Pesci’s gonna be in it and Al Pacino is going to be in it and Marty’s going to direct it.
Still not quite convinced? De Niro had a feeling. The actor also added, “I’d never say it if I didn’t really fully have us all, you know, committed.”

De Niro didn’t mention when the camera might start rolling, but when it does, he’ll be playing Frank “the Irishman” Sheeran, a man who put his violent side to use during World War II only to return to the states to become a hit man working closely with notorious mob boss Russell Bufalino. It’s Bufalino that put Sheeran in touch with Jimmy Hoffa, kicking off their friendship. When Hoffa disappeared, Sheeran was a top suspect.

The materials are there, the film’s got a fantastic director and cast, now we’ve just got to wait for that green light. While I’m always hesitant of being prematurely optimistic, who argues with De Niro? My money is on this film happening sooner rather than later.

Casting Call: Fanning and Farmiga in PURE LIFE, Haas and Luna in CONTRABAND, and Randy Couture Joins Willis and Phillippe in SET UP

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 7th, 2011

We’ve got casting news for a trio of films for you today. First up, Elle Fanning (Somewhere) and Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) are set to star in the indie drama Pure Life. Directed by Van Fischer (Neo Ned), the film a 13-year-old girl in search of romance. Living in poverty, she finds a “bad boy” she deems worthy of taking her virginity. The Playlist reports that Farmiga will play the girl’s “hard-working and short-tempered” mother.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding UFC fighter Randy Couture joining Bruce Willis and Ryan Phillippe in Set Up, and Lukas Haas and Diego Luna signing up for Contraband.
Following his turn in Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, Randy Couture has joined the cast of the heist movie Set Up. He joins previously announced Bruce Willis, Ryan Phillippe, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Heat Vision reports that Couture will play “an enforcer who works for a local crime lord (Willis) tasked to oversee Jackson[‘s character] on an assignment.” The film is directed by stunt coordinator Mike Gunther, from a script he co-wrote with Mike Behrman.
Lukas Haas and Diego Luna have been added to the cast of director Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband. What’s Playing reports that the two join previously announced Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Foster. A remake of an Icelandic thriller, the film tells the story of a former smuggler trying to go straight as a night guard. When his wife’s brother (who got him the job) botches a smuggling run, his life is threatened and the protagonist is dragged in for one more job.

Mark Wahlberg Says He’s Still in UNCHARTED; Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci Co-Starring

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 7th, 2011

Last week, we told you that the video game director of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was denying that Mark Wahlberg was definitely going to star in the film adaptation of the popular adventure game. Not so fast, says Wahlberg:
David O’Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct. It’s myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro.
While that’s not a clear declaration that Wahlberg is officially signed on, it does sound like if that project happens, he’s definitely doing it. O’Russell’s currently doing the pre-Oscar press rounds for his latest film, The Fighter, but it sounds like he’s very much working on the Uncharted adaptation as well. There’s currently no official word on what specific roles De Niro and Pesci would be taking on, though Wahlberg previously stated his intention to have the two play his father and uncle respectively. Moviehole reports that they’re hoping to start shooting “in the summer time.” Though with the amount of times this project has flipped back and forth from being “on” and “off”, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Mark Wahlberg to Play Nathan Drake in UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE; De Niro and Pesci Under Consideration to Co-Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:November 24th, 2010

Earlier this month, we reported the rumor that Mark Wahlberg was to play the lead in David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  We also reported that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were in talks to co-star.  Speaking to MTV, Wahlberg has now clarified those rumors.  He confirms that he will play the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake (sorry, Nathan Fillion).  It will be his fourth film with O. Russell.  Said Wahlberg,
“David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with.  The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
Hit the jump for how De Niro and Pesci fit into the picture and my thoughts on Wahlberg as Drake.
Neither De Niro nor Pesci are officially on board, but Wahlberg tells MTV that he’s spoken to Pesci and that O. Russell’s people have talked with De Niro.  As to who the two Hollywood icons would play:
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
I’m not sure what the watered-down version is.  I can’t imagine this movie getting an R-rating despite the violence of the video game and that Drake basically murders about 500 people over the course of the story.  As for De Niro and Pesci, Drake’s father and uncle have never appeared in the games, so it will be interesting to see how far O. Russell’s script branches into new territory.  The first game centers on Drake’s quest for El Dorado while the second game has him searching for Shangri-La.
But I’m not a huge fan of casting Wahlberg.  Wahlberg plays a good tough guy, but Drake (at least the endearing Drake from the game) is more scrappy and resourceful.  He’s the guy who goes “Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!” when a grenade lands near him.  It’s a looser character and while Wahlberg may be able to play it, he’s always seemed too uptight and stoic, even in a comedy like The Other Guys.  Hopefully he’ll be able to pull it off, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that Fillion didn’t get the role.

New Clip from Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN

by Ben Garman    Posted:November 24th, 2010

Following on from our recent interview with Mila Kunis about her exciting role in upcoming psychological thriller Black Swan, we’re excited to offer a new clip from the movie. It’s just shy of a minute long, but it certainly conjures some serious intensity as Natalie Portman get’s the heebie jeebies during a wardrobe fitting. Anyone unsure of the tone of the movie will be left in no doubt after watching this – it’s an excerpt that’ll have you clamoring for the whole film. Sadly you’ll have to wait a few weeks.  Black Swan opens on December 3rd. The film also stars Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder.
Hit the jump for the clip and further coverage of the film.

Here’s the clip via Shock Til You Drop:

Aside from the natural eeriness of the new video clip, one thing that really struck me is the darkly haunting, ominous soundtrack by Clint Mansell. Mansell has a long history with Aronofsky, dating all the way back to his first film soundtrack for Pi in 1998, and anyone who has seen The Fountain will know his scores are near perfection. For Black Swan the composer has loosely based his music on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake – the ballet at the heart of the film. Things just keep getting better!
Here’s the official synopsis for Black Swan:
BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.
Be sure to check out the bizarrely beautiful posters to the film, award-worthy alone, and don’t miss the trailer. If after all this you’re still not sufficiently psyched, (God help you – I’m burning up with anticipation), then watch this trippy music video for a quick hit.
