Abigail Spencer Joins Sam Raimi’s OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: July 6th, 2011

Sam Raimi continues to fill out the cast of his Wizard of Oz prequel Oz, The Great and Powerful, as Mad Men actress Abigail Spencer is the latest to sign on. The impressive cast now includes James Franco as the charismatic magician, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams as three witches, and Zach Braff as Oz’s faithful assistant. The story tells the origins of the eponymous Wizard, as Franco’s character is whisked away in a hot air balloon to the land of Oz, where he must team up with Glinda the Good Witch (Williams) in order to battle her evil counterparts (Kunis and Weisz) who are bent on taking over the land.
Heat Vision reports that Spencer will play a willing participant in Franco’s magic show while he’s performing in Kansas. On Mad Men, Spencer played the foxy Miss Farrell, schoolteacher to Don Draper’s kids and the focal point of Mr. Draper’s super serious bedroom eyes in season three. Oz, The Great and Powerful begins filming in Michigan later this month. We recently reported that Raimi will be reteaming with composer Danny Eflman for the fantasy tale. The film hits theaters March 8th, 2013.

After sitting on the shelf for two years due to MGM’s financial difficulties, director Drew Goddard and co-writer Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods finally found a distributor in Lionsgate this past April.  The first image from the film has finally gone online and shockingly it shows people in a cabin (cabin may or may not be in the woods).  Details on the plot have remained scarce since the project was first announced but Goddard and Whedon have indicated that the film will be their spin on the “Cabin in the Woods” horror sub-genre.
Hit the jump to check out the image.  The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchinson, Fran Kanz, Jesse Williams, Bradley Whitford, and Richard Jenkins.  No release date has been announced but there are rumors Lionsgate could open it in the fall to replace the Saw franchise. http://collider.com/cabin-in-the-woods-movie-image/100632/

New images from Fright Night and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn have popped up online.  The Fright Night images provide a couple new looks at David Tennant as Las Vegas stage magician/vampire hunter Peter Vincent while the Tintin image shows the eponymous character and his dog Snowy.  I have no idea as to the context of these images, but they’re after the jump for your viewing pleasure.
Fright Night opens in 3D on August 19th.  The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn opens in 3D on December 23rd. http://collider.com/fright-night-tintin-movie-images/100615/

The new film will revolve around two white collar characters who lure five college-type kids to a cabin in the woods. The cabin is rigged with carefully selected props, gimmicks and cameras that allow the overseers to spy and interfere with the kids. The mysterious organization behind this scheme is doing this in order to hold a sweepstakes on just how everything will pan out.

"The Cabin in the Woods" is directed by "Cloverfield" writer Drew Goddard and has yet to seta release date.

Shia LaBeouf Turned Down "127 Hours," "The Social Network" and "Bourne Legacy"

Posted: July 7th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

In an interview with Details magazine, Shia LaBeouf spoke about passing on many high-profile projects in his search for a film that he considers a "game changer."

He confirmed that he was in talks for "Bourne Legacy," but walked away from negotiations after realizing that he is no longer interested in making another action movie. Jeremy Renner was eventually cast in "Legacy."

LaBeouf also quit talks for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and Oscar-nominated films "127 Hours" and "The Social Network." He said that he is a fan of the movies, but wasn't convinced that they were big enough for him. "I am trying to impress myself. I have yet to do it," said the actor. "I'm looking for Warren Beatty-type game changers."

First Clip from Alexander Payne’s THE DESCENDANTS Starring George Clooney

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: May 10th, 2011

The first clip from director Alexander Payne’s The Descendants has been released. The film stars George Clooney as a wealthy landowner who tries to re-connect with his daughters. The clip really doesn’t reveal much in the way of plot. In fact, it’s pretty much just Clooney running. But Payne hasn’t directed a film since 2004’s Sideways, so any peek of his next flick, however small, is pretty intriguing.
Clooney stars alongside Beau Bridges, Judy Greer, Robert Forster and Matthew Lillard. The Descendants is set to be released on December 16th. Hit the jump to check out the clip.

Woody Harrelson to Play Haymitch in THE HUNGER GAMES

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: May 10th, 2011

I guess it’s time for our daily Hunger Games casting story. It now looks like Woody Harrelson will be taking on the coveted role of Haymitch Abernathy, the only tribute from District 12 to ever win a Hunger Games competition who becomes Katniss’ mentor. John C. Reilly was previously being pursued for the role of the alcoholic Abernathy, but it appears that Harrelson will end up with the part. The actor was previously mentioned for a role in the film back in April, and now Heat Vision confirms his involvement.
Gary Ross is directing the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ wildly popular book trilogy. Set for release on March 23rd, 2012, The Hunger Games also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Wes Bentley, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci.  Hit the jump to read a synopsis. .......... http://collider.com/woody-harrelson-the-hunger-games/90040/

Stanley Tucci to Play Caesar Flickerman in THE HUNGER GAMES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:May 9th, 2011

Stanley Tucci will play interviewer Caesar Flickerman in Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games.  Here’s how the press release describes the role:
Caesar Flickerman is utterly familiar to all the citizens of Panem as the host of the Hunger Games. Known for his outrageous appearance and buoyant personality, his upbeat interviews of the 24 tributes – a boy and a girl from each of the country’s 12 districts – are presented on every television in the nation.  He is famous for turning any conversation around to the positive and finding humor in even the most dire circumstances.
It sounds like Tucci is playing the well-worn smarmy announcer character we’ve seen time and time again.  However, I do take comfort in the fact that a talented actor like Tucci has taken the role and will likely bring something new to it.  Hit the jump for the full press release.  The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Wes Bentley, and Elizabeth Banks.  The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.

Rachel Weisz in Talks for THE BOURNE LEGACY

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: May 10th, 2011

Hot off the heels of the news that Rachel Weisz is in talks to join Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful comes word that the actress is also in talks to star in Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy. Legacy is a reboot of sorts for the Bourne franchise, with Jeremy Renner recently landing the lead role. In Legacy, Weisz would play “an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.”
However, Deadline reports that scheduling conflicts may prevent the actress from joining both films. Apparently Weisz is in “deeper” talks for Bourne than she is with Oz (if there exists an infographic for the levels of “talks” actors are in, I’d very much like to see it). In Oz, Weisz would play the evil witch Theodora, who teams up with Kunis’ character to take over Oz. Raimi is set to go into production on Oz, The Great and Powerful this summer, while The Bourne Legacy is poised to start filming in September. There is a possibility that she could do both films, but nothing’s certain at the moment.

Joel Edgerton May Star in THE BOURNE LEGACY or SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 21st, 2011

Rising star Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) may be close to landing a major role in a high-profile project.  Vulture is reporting that The Bourne Legacy writer-director Tony Gilroy wants Edgerton as the new Bourne, but that Universal wants the actor for the male lead in Snow White and the Huntsman.  The major issue regarding Edgerton and Bourne is that Universal doesn’t feel he has enough name recognition to carry the franchise, and the studio prefers either James McAvoy or Shia LaBeouf for the role.  However, Universal also believes that Edgerton would be a good fit for Huntsman since co-stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron would make up for Edgerton’s current lack of star power.  If I had to guess which film will get Edgerton, I’d bet on Snow White since I don’t think Universal is going to chance the Bourne franchise on a lead who’s mostly unknown to audiences outside his native Australia.
Edgerton will next be seen in the sports drama Warrior opposite Tom Hardy and the horror prequel The Thing with Mary Elizabeth Winstead.  I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen of the actor so far and I’m glad that he’s being considered for leading roles in tentpole movies.  The Bourne Legacy is currently set for August 3, 2012 while Snow White and the Huntsman is slated for December 21, 2012.

4 New Television Spots for THE HANGOVER PART II

Warner Bros. has released four new television spots for The Hangover Part II. Although they don’t feature a ton of new footage from the film, it should be enough to whet the appetite of fans. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to checking out the film in theaters, I’m just still worried by the amount of self-referential material crammed into both these spots and the trailer. Honestly, Warner Bros. could save moviegoers a ton of time if they would just use the tagline “For Fans of The Hangover.”
Hit the jump to check out each of the four spots. Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover Part II stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Jamie Chung, and Ken Jeong. The film hits theaters on May 26th.

Jessica Stroup Takes on Seth MacFarlane’s TED

by Jason Barr   Posted: April 21st, 2011

Casting for Seth MacFarlane’s comedy Ted continues to take shape as Jessica Stroup (Beverly Hills 90210) has signed on to the project. Per THR, Stroup will make a turn as Mila Kunis’ office co-worker, “a woman who has slept with their boss” played by Community’s Joel McHale. Aside from her apparent promiscuity, further details regarding Stroup’s character are absent. In addition to Stroup, McHale, and Kunis, Ted also stars Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi, and Patrick Warburton.
For those unaware, Ted (co-written and directed by MacFarlane) tells the story of a grown man (Wahlberg) whose wish that his childhood teddy bear would come to life comes true. As the story goes, the bear (played by MacFarlane using motion-capture) is a full-on hot mess, complete with swearing and toking, and eventually wrecks said man’s life. Ted marks MacFarlane’s feature film debut and is set to hit theaters on July 13th, 2012.

Jeremy Renner Set to Topline THE BOURNE LEGACY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 21st, 2011

Well, it looks like the search is finally over. Universal Pictures has officially offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy. Deadline confirms what Latino Review reported earlier this month: that Renner will be taking over the franchise that kicked Matt Damon’s career into high-gear. Written and directed by Gilrory, the film will apparently take place in the same universe as Paul Greengrass and Doug Liman’s previous films, but won’t feature Damon’s Jason Bourne character (a fact that doesn’t seem to hinder Universal from strapping the Bourne name on the film). Legacy will further explore the Treadstone and Blackbriar mythos that permeated throughout the previous films, possibly exploring other similar agents and groups.
Universal cast a very wide net in searching for their Legacy star, with basically every fairly well-known male actor between the ages of 18-40 meeting for the role (names included Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Josh Hartnett, etc.). Hit the jump for more. ........... http://collider.com/jeremy-renner-the-bourne-legacy-2/87175/

Is Jeremy Renner The Next Bourne?

published: 2011-04-01 17:37:25 Author: Josh Tyler
Thanks to the success of The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner has become Hollywood’s default for whenever they’re looking for a middle-aged white guy who can do action. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that he’s being considered for The Bourne Legacy. Yeah, that’s the Bourne movie they’re doing without Matt Damon.

The movie takes place in the Bourne universe, but it won’t actually be about Jason Bourne. That’s their fancy way of saying it has nothing to do with the Bourne movies but they wanted to use the name since that sells tickets. Among the names bandied about for the lead in this movie so far are Shia LaBeouf, Garrett Hedlund, Joel Edgerton, Chris Evans, and Dominic Cooper. But now the rumor is that Universal is sending an offer out to Jeremy Renner, after vetoing director Tony Gilroy’s first choice, a guy named Oscar Isaac.

Oscar Isaac is the guy with the pencil thin mustache in Sucker Punch, and the movie’s rather dismal box office results last weekend probably didn’t do much to convince Universal they wanted him. So they’re going with a guy who’s sort of a name, and may be a much bigger name by the time The Bourne Legacy’s ready since he’s set to play a major role in Marvel’s upcoming slate of superhero movies as Hawkeye, and set to star opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible.
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Is-Jeremy-Renner-The-Next-Bourne-24003.html

The Bourne Legacy Wants Jeremy Renner
Several names have been thrown about to star in director Tony Gilroy's spin-off The Bourne Legacy, with the latest being Jeremy Renner.

It seems Tony Gilroy was interested in casting Oscar Isaac, who currently stars in Sucker Punch, but Universal Pictures didn't approve of the actor, for unknown reasons. Earlier today, an offer went out to Jeremy Renner to topline this new adventure.

Just last week, we reported that actors such as Joel Edgerton, Garrett Hedlund, Dominic Cooper, and Luke Evans were screen testing for the role. Shia LaBeouf, Taylor Kitsch, and Logan Marshall-Green have also been mentioned in connection with this highly-coveted part.

Tony Gilroy, who wrote the previous three Jason Bourne movies, will direct The Bourne Legacy from his own screenplay. This new story will borrow the title from Robert Ludlum's book, but won't implement the story. Little is known about the plot, except that it will not feature Jason Bourne, at least not in the present day. The project will leave room for Matt Damon to return for future installments.

The Bourne Legacy comes to theaters August 3rd, 2012. The film is directed by Tony Gilroy.

Patrick Dempsey Lobbies for Doctor Strange
This isn't an April Fool's Day joke, and similar tactics didn't work out so well for Donald Glover when he made it publicly known that he wanted to be Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man But that isn't stopping Patrick Dempsey from launching a campaign to play Doctor Strange.

The actor is hoping to play the character in either a TV series or a feature film in a move to distance himself a little bit from his popular Grey's Anatomy character.

Here is what Patrick Dempsey had to say.
"I've been lobbying for that. There's a whole bunch of people [among the 'Grey's Anatomy ' crew] who are into comics and Marvel, too, on the set and they're like, 'Doctor Strange, that's the one you should do.' It would be fantastic. It'd be a great TV show, especially for HBO or something like that. I don't know if I'd necessarily do another show, a drama, that's 24 episodes again. HBO you're at 13 and I think that's much better. It's just so hard to sustain the quality after three years if you're doing 24, 25 episodes a year. It all depends on who you have as a writing team - it's how you set it up, what's the tone and making sure you're not locked into this one-season success [mentality], you can't be afraid to think beyond that.""

Marvel has tried to launch a Doctor Strange movie for the past couple of years, but the character doesn't have the same kind of notoriety as some of the major Marvel heavy hitters such as Thor and Captain America A live action adaptation is currently gaining some momentum, with Marvel President Kevin Feige putting Doctor Strange on the short list of characters he wants to see in the flesh, with Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer already hired to write a script.
Patrick Dempsey says that Kevin Feige
knows he is lobbying hard for the part.
"He knows what's going on. There was stuff going on. At Comic-Con they were talking about me playing it and there was a rumor that I'd been cast. I mean, it's something that's kind of out there and, you know, I've been looking at that. It would be a fun one to do. Hopefully, doing something like 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' is about to show myself in an action situation where I'm not mister-weepy-doctor guy, you know, not McDreamy. You have to change that in people's view. I'm still hungry for other things. I'd love to play Doctor Strange."

Green Lantern 2 to Get Blake Lively as Star Sapphire?
Green Lantern is making a big splash at WonderCon in San Francisco, where stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have been in promotion mode all day. Four minutes of footage from this DC Comics adaptation was shown, and is rumored to be making its way online tomorrow.

The one thing missing from this footage is Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, who many fans hated when they first saw her in the much derided teaser trailer launched late last year. The actress seemed fine with the exclusion, and even revealed that if Green Lantern 2 gets the proverbial green light, fans will get to see her turn into the villain Star Sapphire.

Here is what Blake Lively had to say.
"What made me want the role that much more is that my character is a strong, militant, powerful woman who really challenges Hal. They're rivals and are always butting heads. She comes in and says, 'Men are weak too.' It was just a really special female counterpart in a superhero film. In this film, Carol is completely human and on earth. But she turns into a villain in the later comics, so potentially if it became a franchise I'd get to explore that, which would be so much fun. I would love that. What you don't see [in this film] is when they're kids. They're each other's first loves. Where the movie picks up, they're ex-lovers. So there is that tension - that rivalry - but also that love. They're each other's soulmates."

Green Lantern comes to theaters June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Tim Robbins. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

Green Lantern 2 is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

Nicolas Cage and John Travolta May Re-Team for Two Thrillers
Posted: March 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

It's been fifteen years since Nicolas Cage and John Travolta appeared in "Face/Off" together. NY Mag is now reporting that the two actors are planning to re-unite in two new independent thrillers.

The first will likely be "Shrapnel," that Evan Dougherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) wrote. It follows a former Bosnian soldier who seeks vengeance against the American who badly wounded him by disguising a deadly war game as a friendly backwoods hunting trip. The script ended up on the 2008 Black List of best un-produced screenplays. The plan is to begin filming in June.

The other project is "Sea Trial," based on Frank De Felitta's novel. The story revolves around a couple going on a romantic cruise that ends up a cruise through hell. The project is still looking for financing. The script is written by De Felitta's son Raymond.

"The Bourne Legacy" Lead Down to Six Actors
Posted: March 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Universal Pictures is in the middle of casting the lead in "The Bourne Legacy," which is a Tony Gilroy-directed spin-off that will focus on another assassin and not Jason Bourne.

The studio has been considering a large number of your actors, but Deadline is now reporting that the list has been narrowed to just a few names.

Joel Edgerton (The Thing), Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) are all set to test for the role next month. Meanwhile, other actors like Shia LaBeouf and Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) are also being considered, but do not have to test.

And it looks like Jake Gyllenhaal is no longer being considered, despite the actor expressing interest in the role. "That would be amazing if that were true, but it's unfortunately not," he recently told Extra.

"Child's Play" Remake To Shoot This Year
Posted: March 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

There have been plans to remake "Child's Play" since 2007, but MGM and Universal Pictures couldn't come to an agreement since MGM owns the original film and Universal owns the sequels.

Now comes word that all the issues have been worked out and MGM will move forward with a remake that has already been written by Don Mancini, who also wrote all the previous "Chucky" films. Plus, Brad Dourif is returning to voice the title character.

Production is said to begin later this year and the movie has been described as more of a reboot, with a darker tone and less comedic elements.

"After having successfully mined the horror-comedy aspects of this concept over the course of 'Bride of Chucky' and 'Seed of Chucky,' the fans are really telling us that they want it to be scary again," Mancini previously said. "Doing the remake just provides us with a really good opportunity to [do that]."

**Amy Adams Offered Role in ROCK OF AGES **Joel Edgerton, Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund, and Luke Evans Testing for Lead in THE BOURNE LEGACY **Michael Shannon and Edgar Ramirez Vying for Villain Role in SUPERMAN Reboot? **Juno Temple Confirmed for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Amy Adams Offered Role in ROCK OF AGES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 24th, 2011

Amy Adams is reportedly being “heavily courted” to join Adam Shankman’s upcoming musical, Rock of AgesDeadline reports that Adams is being offered the role of a journalist who plans to write a scathing expose of decaent rock star Stacee Jax (played by Tom Cruise) but ends up sleeping with him instead after they do a duet of Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is”.  The role was initially offered to Anne Hathaway, but the scheduling conflicted with her time playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
Adams previously did some fantastic singing in Enchanted and she’s set to sing again in The Muppets.  If Adams signs on to Rock of Ages, she’ll join not only Cruise, but also Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Julianne Hough.  Deadline reports that we should know by early next week if Adams has taken the gig.  Rock of Ages is currently set to open on June 1, 2012.

Joel Edgerton, Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund, and Luke Evans Testing for Lead in THE BOURNE LEGACY

by Jason Barr    Posted: March 24th, 2011

With Universal’s The Bourne Legacy staring down the barrel of an August 3, 2012 release, the studio is finally bringing some tangible casting work to the forefront.  Per Deadline, four actors are currently scheduled to screen test for the film’s male lead at the beginning of April: Joel Edgerton (forthcoming remake of The Thing), Dominic Cooper (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans).
While the report is quick to mention that the actor eventually cast for the role may fall outside of the four listed here (for example, both Shia LaBeouf and Taylor Kitsch are believed to be in the mix, although neither is expected to test for the role at this time), this news at least gives fans of the franchise an idea of how Universal is approaching writer/director Tony Gilroy’s spin-off installment. It is believed that the studio sees the Bourne franchise itself as being more important to the film’s overall success than a huge name lead to place at the top of its marketing materials. With this in mind, and with production set to get underway later this year, I expect this story to be the tip of the casting iceberg surrounding The Bourne Legacy.

Michael Shannon and Edgar Ramirez Vying for Villain Role in SUPERMAN Reboot?

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: March 24th, 2011

Director Zack Snyder is currently filling out his cast for the upcoming Superman reboot and, unsurprisingly, the rumor mill is heating up with names of actors in line to play the villain in the film. Henry Cavill is set as the Man of Steel himself, with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane poised to play his adoptive parents. Now, Deadline is reporting that the parties-that-be are interested in actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) for the villain. Shannon’s a supremely talented guy, and has gained considerable (and well-deserved) recognition as of late, following his Oscar-nominated turn in Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road.
In addition, Latino Review reports that Edgar Ramirez (Carlos) is being eyed for the villain role as well. Exactly which villain Superman will face off against in the film is currently unknown. Now, this being a comic-book movie and all, these casting reports could very well turn out to be simply nothing more than rumor. At this point, no one’s saying for sure. But with production set to start relatively soon on the Christopher Nolan-produced flick, expect more casting announcements/rumors in the coming weeks.

Last week, we reported that UK actress Juno Temple (Atonement) was in talks to join Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. As of today, those talks have officially ended as Temple has been confirmed for her role as a “street-smart Gotham girl.” While Variety fails to offer up more details regarding Temple’s character, rumors and speculation are already stacking up on the interwebs (hard to believe, right?) that Temple could be playing any Bat-character from Catwoman-sidekick Holly Robinson to current Batgirl Stephanie Brown.
Just for funsies, feel free to join me after the jump for a quick breakdown of some of Temple’s potential roles. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, 2012.

TOTAL RECALL Remake, I HATE YOU, DAD and HERE COMES THE BOOM Get Summer 2012 Release Dates

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Sony has just announced a few new 2012 release dates and they include their Total Recall remake (August 3, 2012), I Hate You, Dad (June 22) and Here Comes the Boom (July 27). Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Blake, chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures said:
“Not only do we have two of our most exciting franchises back in theaters with Men in Black 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man, but the three movies we added to the slate today round out a fantastic schedule.  We love comedy in the summer and you can’t ask for better stars than Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Total Recall has us excited not only because of its incredible pedigree – we love the original story and the first film – but we think this new project will really hit home with a new generation of moviegoers.”

Jon Chu is Directing the G.I. JOE Sequel

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Last week we reported F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never), and Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) were the leading candidates to direct the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.   Well, it looks like Paramount and Hasbro have made their selection and it’s going to be Chu.   While his name might surprise many of you as you’d think a lot of bigger nam directors might want to take on the property, Chu is apparently a big fan of Joe and with his Never Say Never making great money for Paramount (already over $50 million), the studio felt he was the right man for the job.  For more on the story and how the studio might be recasting some of the main roles, hit the jump:

Viggo Mortensen is a “Person of Interest” for General Zod in Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN Reboot

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: February 25th, 2011

While most of you know that Henry Cavill has already been cast as the iconic hero, the remaining roles for director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot have yet to be filled. We know that Lois Lane will indeed be in the film, but aren’t sure which actresses Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have in mind. Also, recent reports have named Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive father.
The villainous front is a little more defined as we’re fairly certain that Kryptonian badass Ursa will feature prominently.  And now, we’re hearing reports that Snyder and Nolan are interested in Viggo Mortensen to play the major villain General Zod!  Hit the jump for more:

Viggo Mortensen Wanted To Play General Zod In Zack Snyder's Superman?

published: 2011-02-25 19:25:24 Author: Eric Eisenberg

Back in October, when it was announced that Zack Snyder would be the guy to direct the Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot, a rumor emerged saying that General Zod, who was played by Terence Stamp in the early days of the franchise, would be the new film's principle villain. Snyder, however, was quick to shut the story down, saying that it was just a rumor. Since then there has been tons of speculation about who the villain would be, and now it seems as though we've come back to the beginning.
THR is reporting from unnamed sources that Viggo Mortensen is wanted by Snyder and Nolan to play General Zod in the new Man of Steel film. The actor is currently in negotiations to star in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, but should things fall through he could be the new bad guy for Supes. The report says that, much like the case with Kevin Costner and the role of Jonathan Kent, there are other actors being looked at for the part, but Mortensen is their top choice.

While I know a lot of people won't like to hear that General Zod is the villain of the new Superman movie and would prefer Brainiac or Doomsday, Mortensen could be an interesting bit of casting. Thanks to playing Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings films he's typically perceived as a hero character and it would be interesting to see what he could do with a truly malicious character.

Idris Elba Joins "Alien" Prequel

Posted: February 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
The Daily Mail had the chance to speak to Ridley Scott, who revealed that the cast of "Prometheus" has expanded to include Idris Elba (The Losers), Sean Harris (Harry Brown) and Kate Dickie, in addition to the already-announced Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace.

"It's the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It's not a small film," said Scott. "I'm using the giant James Bond 007 stage at Pinewood and six other sound stages to film it."

Scott also mentioned that filming begins in three weeks and that the movie is NOT a prequel to "Alien." But no matter how often Scott says that, sources are constantly stating that there will be more than just "Alien DNA" in the film.

According to BleedingCool, "Prometheus" will have the same creatures as in "Alien," but we may not recognize them. In "Alien," they took on human qualities because they were grown inside of a human. In "Prometheus," the creatures have yet to embed themselves into humans and will thus have the DNA of another alien species, making them look very different from what we have seen before.

Everything that we've heard points to that "Prometheus" is an "Alien" prequel. Scott has revealed that he has gone to great lengths to keep the story a secret. Maybe pretending that this has nothing to do with "Alien" is just part of that strategy. Stay tuned.

Viggo Mortensen is General Zod in "Superman" Reboot?

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

When the "Superman" reboot was first announced, we learned that General Zod will be the main villain in the film. Director Zack Snyder immediately denied the rumor.

Then came word that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were being considered for the role of Kryptonian villainess Ursa, who is a part of a group of three members, lead by General Zod.

THR is now reporting that Viggo Mortensen (The Road) is at the top of the list to play General Zod. Snyder has yet to meet with Mortensen, but the actor is seriously being considered, just like Kevin Costner is for the role of Jonathan Kent.

Shia LaBeouf Also in Talks for "The Bourne Legacy"

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Yesterday we reported that director Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) has met with Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz and several other actors for the lead in "The Bourne Legacy," the first installment without Matt Damon.

What's Playing website is now reporting that Shia LaBeouf is also in talks and is a very serious contender since he's close to Frank Marshall, the produce of "The Bourne Legacy" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

As previously reported, whoever is cast will play a new assassin with a similar background to Jason Bourne's. Bourne won't appear in the film, but there will be room to bring the character back at a later point. "The Bourne Legacy" is set to hit theaters in August of 2012.

Amber Heard Wants to Star in "Red Sonja"

Posted: February 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Earlier this month, producer Avi Lerner revealed that "Red Sonja" is a top priority and that director Simon West (The Mechanic, Con Air) has already been hired to helm the film.

He added that he would like Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D) to play the lead. "We're talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja," said Lerner. "But we just finished a movie called 'Drive Angry' with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She's my favorite for the role. Amber is the new Red Sonja... but she doesn't know it yet."

Moviefone now caught up with Heard and asked to comment. "I was surprised, but also it's something I've been looking at for a while and kind of interested in," she responded. "I'm definitely interested in being a part of it, but that's all I can kind of comment on right now."

Cameron Diaz is a naughty teacher
02.23.11
After the jump, it’s the red-band trailer for Bad Teacher, starring Cam’ron Diaz and Justin Timberlake  I read this script a while back and really liked it, but then Sony hired Cameron Diaz to play the lead and her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake to play her love interest, the kind of decision that only makes sense if you’re a studio exec.  On the plus side, Jake Kasdan is directing (of Orange County and the criminally underrated Walk Hard) and Jason Segel has a supporting role.  Maybe I can still pretend to buy Cameron Diaz in this role long enough to enjoy it?  It’s going to be hard, but if I can get Burnsy to stop feeding me popcorn with his big man paws like he usually does, I might be able to manage.

Early Edition: Ewan McGregor Ready to Be a 'Giant Killer'

Posted Feb 25th 2011 8:00AM
Fee fie foe fum! Ewan McGregor is in talks to join the long-gestating Bryan Singer production of 'Jack the Giant Killer,' a modern day fairy tale in which a long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened when a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess. The movie is finally taking off -- with shooting scheduled to begin in March in London -- and several key roles have been cast: Nicholas Hoult ('Skins') will play Jack and Stanley Tucci will play the villain, an advisor to the king with designs on usurping power. Bill Nighy and John Kassir will play the two-headed leader of the giants. McGregor will play the leader of the king's giant-fighting elite guards. Still to be cast: the princess. [The Hollywood Reporter]

We all know that 'Toy Story 3' was the top-grossing film of the year, both in North America and overseas (with $1.062 billion worldwide) -- followed by 'Alice in Wonderland' ($1.023 billion), 'Inception' ($817 million), 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1' ($824.1 million) and 'Shrek Forever After' ($750 million). But what was the top-grossing independent film of the year? That honor goes to 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,' which took in $698.3 million, according to the Independent Film & Television Alliance. 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' was second with $270.7 million, followed by 'The Expendables' with $228.4 million worldwide. [

First Look at James Franco in Rise of the Apes

Source: 20th Century Fox
February 24, 2011

20th Century Fox has provided ComingSoon.net with a first look at James Franco in Rise of the Apes, opening in theaters on November 23. Franco, who is co-hosting the Oscars on Sunday with Anne Hathaway, stars in the Rupert Wyatt-directed film with John Lithgow, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox, Tom Felton and David Oyelowo.

Oscar-winning visual effects house Weta Digital – employing certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for Avatar – will render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.

Set in present day San Francisco,
Rise of the Apes is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

UPDATE: Jake Gyllenhaal And Garrett Hedlund Among Actors Shortlisted For The Bourne Legacy

published: 2011-02-24 19:40:21 Author: Eric Eisenberg
UPDATE: Deadline reports that Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer, and Benjamin Walker are also in the mix for the part.

One advantage that the Jason Bourne franchise had for its last two sequels is that it didn't have to worry about finding their lead actor. Matt Damon was the super assassin with amnesia and everything was right with the world. But now that Universal is making a fourth installment without Damon, the mission has begun to find the actor that can step into his shoes.
Variety is reporting that a shortlist for director Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy has been leaked and contains five names, four of whom shouldn't really come as a surprise. These stars include Jake Gyllenhaal, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, and Kellan Lutz. Strangely, the other name on the list is Tobey Maguire, who, with his skinny frame made, for a good Spider-Man, but might be a little out of place as a CIA-trained killing machine. While the article isn't specific as to which names belong where, it says that the list contains both actors Gilroy is interested in for the part and actors the studio is pushing (it's also worth noting that Universal wouldn't comment on this list). Making the casting process all the more interesting, Gilroy wants to screentest all of the actors, meaning that it's entirely possible that an unknown name could still swing in and take the part. The film is currently scheduled to begin production this Spring.

Though I understand that Gilroy is as much a part of the Bourne franchise as Matt Damon or Paul Greengrass, having written all three previous films, I still find it hard wrapping my mind around the idea of a Bourne movie without Jason Bourne. If you can't make a Bond movie without Bond, why can you make a Bourne movie without Bourne? It would be nice to see them work it out and have Damon return to the role sometime down the line, but I will remain skeptical until given reason why I shouldn't be.
