TOTAL RECALL Remake, I HATE YOU, DAD and HERE COMES THE BOOM Get Summer 2012 Release Dates

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Sony has just announced a few new 2012 release dates and they include their Total Recall remake (August 3, 2012), I Hate You, Dad (June 22) and Here Comes the Boom (July 27). Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Blake, chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures said:
“Not only do we have two of our most exciting franchises back in theaters with Men in Black 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man, but the three movies we added to the slate today round out a fantastic schedule.  We love comedy in the summer and you can’t ask for better stars than Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Total Recall has us excited not only because of its incredible pedigree – we love the original story and the first film – but we think this new project will really hit home with a new generation of moviegoers.”

Jon Chu is Directing the G.I. JOE Sequel

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Last week we reported F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never), and Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) were the leading candidates to direct the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.   Well, it looks like Paramount and Hasbro have made their selection and it’s going to be Chu.   While his name might surprise many of you as you’d think a lot of bigger nam directors might want to take on the property, Chu is apparently a big fan of Joe and with his Never Say Never making great money for Paramount (already over $50 million), the studio felt he was the right man for the job.  For more on the story and how the studio might be recasting some of the main roles, hit the jump:

Viggo Mortensen is a “Person of Interest” for General Zod in Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN Reboot

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: February 25th, 2011

While most of you know that Henry Cavill has already been cast as the iconic hero, the remaining roles for director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot have yet to be filled. We know that Lois Lane will indeed be in the film, but aren’t sure which actresses Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have in mind. Also, recent reports have named Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive father.
The villainous front is a little more defined as we’re fairly certain that Kryptonian badass Ursa will feature prominently.  And now, we’re hearing reports that Snyder and Nolan are interested in Viggo Mortensen to play the major villain General Zod!  Hit the jump for more:

Viggo Mortensen Wanted To Play General Zod In Zack Snyder's Superman?

published: 2011-02-25 19:25:24 Author: Eric Eisenberg

Back in October, when it was announced that Zack Snyder would be the guy to direct the Christopher Nolan-produced Superman reboot, a rumor emerged saying that General Zod, who was played by Terence Stamp in the early days of the franchise, would be the new film's principle villain. Snyder, however, was quick to shut the story down, saying that it was just a rumor. Since then there has been tons of speculation about who the villain would be, and now it seems as though we've come back to the beginning.
THR is reporting from unnamed sources that Viggo Mortensen is wanted by Snyder and Nolan to play General Zod in the new Man of Steel film. The actor is currently in negotiations to star in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, but should things fall through he could be the new bad guy for Supes. The report says that, much like the case with Kevin Costner and the role of Jonathan Kent, there are other actors being looked at for the part, but Mortensen is their top choice.

While I know a lot of people won't like to hear that General Zod is the villain of the new Superman movie and would prefer Brainiac or Doomsday, Mortensen could be an interesting bit of casting. Thanks to playing Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings films he's typically perceived as a hero character and it would be interesting to see what he could do with a truly malicious character.

Idris Elba Joins "Alien" Prequel

Posted: February 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
The Daily Mail had the chance to speak to Ridley Scott, who revealed that the cast of "Prometheus" has expanded to include Idris Elba (The Losers), Sean Harris (Harry Brown) and Kate Dickie, in addition to the already-announced Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace.

"It's the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It's not a small film," said Scott. "I'm using the giant James Bond 007 stage at Pinewood and six other sound stages to film it."

Scott also mentioned that filming begins in three weeks and that the movie is NOT a prequel to "Alien." But no matter how often Scott says that, sources are constantly stating that there will be more than just "Alien DNA" in the film.

According to BleedingCool, "Prometheus" will have the same creatures as in "Alien," but we may not recognize them. In "Alien," they took on human qualities because they were grown inside of a human. In "Prometheus," the creatures have yet to embed themselves into humans and will thus have the DNA of another alien species, making them look very different from what we have seen before.

Everything that we've heard points to that "Prometheus" is an "Alien" prequel. Scott has revealed that he has gone to great lengths to keep the story a secret. Maybe pretending that this has nothing to do with "Alien" is just part of that strategy. Stay tuned.

Viggo Mortensen is General Zod in "Superman" Reboot?

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

When the "Superman" reboot was first announced, we learned that General Zod will be the main villain in the film. Director Zack Snyder immediately denied the rumor.

Then came word that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were being considered for the role of Kryptonian villainess Ursa, who is a part of a group of three members, lead by General Zod.

THR is now reporting that Viggo Mortensen (The Road) is at the top of the list to play General Zod. Snyder has yet to meet with Mortensen, but the actor is seriously being considered, just like Kevin Costner is for the role of Jonathan Kent.

Shia LaBeouf Also in Talks for "The Bourne Legacy"

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Yesterday we reported that director Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) has met with Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz and several other actors for the lead in "The Bourne Legacy," the first installment without Matt Damon.

What's Playing website is now reporting that Shia LaBeouf is also in talks and is a very serious contender since he's close to Frank Marshall, the produce of "The Bourne Legacy" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

As previously reported, whoever is cast will play a new assassin with a similar background to Jason Bourne's. Bourne won't appear in the film, but there will be room to bring the character back at a later point. "The Bourne Legacy" is set to hit theaters in August of 2012.

Amber Heard Wants to Star in "Red Sonja"

Posted: February 25th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Earlier this month, producer Avi Lerner revealed that "Red Sonja" is a top priority and that director Simon West (The Mechanic, Con Air) has already been hired to helm the film.

He added that he would like Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D) to play the lead. "We're talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja," said Lerner. "But we just finished a movie called 'Drive Angry' with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She's my favorite for the role. Amber is the new Red Sonja... but she doesn't know it yet."

Moviefone now caught up with Heard and asked to comment. "I was surprised, but also it's something I've been looking at for a while and kind of interested in," she responded. "I'm definitely interested in being a part of it, but that's all I can kind of comment on right now."
