Transformers 3: Blowin’ Up Chicago arrives on screens tomorrow so the taste for trashy blockbusters is in the air. The good news is that there are more ridiculous action movies on the way after Michael Bay’s latest ode to slow motion explosions. Today a fresh new trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s glossy The Three Musketeersupdate has arrived online in all its overblown glory. It’s not often that you get to see a trailer that proudly claims to be based on “the classic novel from Alexandre Dumas” only to seconds later show flying ships suspended by hot air balloons that I don’t recall being in the book. Fan of the series or not, this is one of those trailers that you kind of have to see in a “you’re not going to believe this shit” kind of way. Hit jump to check out thetrailer. The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz. The Three Musketeers opens October 14th. http://collider.com/the-three-musketeers-trailer-2/99310/
4 International Character Posters for FRIGHT NIGHT
by Matt Goldberg Posted: June 28th, 2011
Four international character banners for Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night remake have gone online. The film stars Anton Yelchin as a suburban teenager who must combat his sinister new neighbor (Colin Farrell) because said neighbor is a murderous vampire. The posters feature corny taglines but I’ve heard good things about Marti Noxon’s script and I like the cast (which also includes David Tennant, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintze-Plasse, and Toni Collette) so I don’t really mind if the advertising is unimpressive. Hit the jump to check out the posters. Fright Night opens in 3D on August 19th. http://collider.com/fright-night-character-posters/99222/
Jeff Bridges Still Attempting to Produce and Star in Adaptation of Lois Lowry’s THE GIVER
by Matt Goldberg Posted: June 28th, 2011
Back in 2006, Jeff Bridges and producer Nikki Silver (full disclosure: I briefly worked for Silver in 2005 as a summer intern for her On-Screen Entertainment, but I’m 99% sure she doesn’t remember me at all) came close to adapting Lois Lowry’s Newberry Award-winning young adult novel The Giver. Fox and Walden Media considered giving a greenlight with House of Sand and Fog director Vadim Perlman at the helm, but in 2007, the rights went over to Warner Bros and the project stalled. Variety reports that Bridges and Silver have now reclaimed the screen rights and are now attempting to revive the film with Perlman still set to direct. The book concerns a utopian society where all memories of the past reside with a sage figure known as “The Giver”. When a 12-year-old boy is selected to be the new Giver, he learns of the hypocrisies and hidden truths of his world. Bridges originally envisioned that his father Lloyd Bridges would play The Giver, but Lloyd died in 1998 and Bridges now says he feels old enough to play the role himself. Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) has been saying that if Frank Miller wrote a sequel to "300" graphic novel that he would direct a film based on it. Snyder is now hard at work on the "Superman" reboot and Warner Bros has decided to move forward with the "300" follow-up with out him.
Deadline has learned that the film is now called "300: Battle of Artemisia" and the studio has narrowed down its list of potential directors to Noam Murro (Smart People, Die Hard 5) and Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown).
The script is written by Snyder and Kurt Johnstadt (300). The story is about Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which happens during the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae in "300."
Exclusive: Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel Officially Cast in TOTAL RECALL; Filming Starts Monday in Toronto [UPDATED]
by Steve 'Frosty' WeintraubPosted: May 25th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Last month we heard that Sony Pictures had offered Kate Beckinsale the role of Lori opposite Colin Farrell in their Total Recall remake. With her husband, Len Wiseman, directing the project and given that they previously collaborated on the Underworld movies, it wasn’t really much of a surprise. However, sources have now told us that she’s officially signed on and Jessica Biel is going to play the other female lead (Melina). In addition to the casting news, we’ve been told filming starts Monday in Toronto. For those playing catch up on the remake, Colin Farrell is set to star, Ethan Hawke has a cameo, and Bryan Cranston is poised to play the villain. The remake will apparently be closer to Phillip K. Dick’s source material than the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger flick. Farrell plays a factory worker who begins to believe he’s a spy for either the nation stat Euromerica or New Shanghai, but he doesn’t know which. Hit the jump for a recap of what we know about the film so far. [Update:Heat Vision reports that Bill Nighy has joined the cast as the enigmatic Quatto, the leader of the resistance.] http://collider.com/kate-beckinsale-jessica-biel-total-recall/92933/
Confirmed: Jeff Bridges to Co-Star with Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D.; Filming in Boston This September
by Matt GoldbergPosted: May 25th, 2011 at 2:35 pm
Last month, we reported that Jeff Bridges was in talks to co-star with Ryan Reynolds in the adaptation of the Dark Horse comic series R.I.P.D. The comics are about a group of dead lawmen in the “Rest in Peace Department” who try to keep other dead folks in line. The Wrap now confirms that Bridges is on board to play Roy Powell, whom producer Neal Moritz described as “a gunslinger who’s been dead for hundreds of years.” Reynolds plays Powell’s partner, Nick Cruz, a recently murdered cop who’s out for revenge. Powell was originally set to be played by Zach Galifianakis, but he dropped out over concerns that the project would be delayed if Warner Bros. exercised Reynolds’ option on Green Lantern 2. However, we have now confirmed that filming is set for mid-September in Boston. My main concern over this project rests with director Robert Schwentke. While the action scenes in Red were competent enough, he had a tough time finding the comedy and R.I.P.D. is being billed as a “supernatural comedy”. In the meantime, we’ll wait and see if Reynolds will move to this film or if he’ll be headed back to Oa.http://collider.com/ripd-jeff-bridges-ryan-reynolds/92921/
Trailer for Alexander Payne’s THE DESCENDANTS Starring George Clooney
by Matt GoldbergPosted: May 25th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
It may not feature angry 3D sharks, but Alexander Payne’s new film The Descendantsmight be a better movie. The film stars George Clooney as the “back-up” parent to two daughters. He must step up when his wife suffers a serious boating accident off of Waikiki, and then he learns the hard truth that she was cheating on him. Judging by the trailer, the flick looks to have the same strong character relationships tinged with humor and sadness as seen in Payne’s previous films. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard, Beau Bridges, and Robert Forster. The Descendants opens December 16th. http://collider.com/descendants-trailer/92891/
Red-Band International Trailer for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Debuts in Europe; Green-Band Domestic Trailer Launches June 2nd
by Matt GoldbergPosted: May 25th, 2011 at 11:15 am
The release of David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a little over six months away. With that in mind, Sony has begun the film’s marketing campaign and a red-band trailer has already rolled out overseas (although technically it’s just “unrated” because the MPAA doesn’t evaluate international trailers). While I’ve been checking YouTube to see that trailer, Deadline reports that a domestic green-band trailer is set to arrive Thursday, June 2nd so we won’t have to wait long to get our first look at the film.

Jeff Bridges in Talks to Join Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D.
by Adam ChitwoodPosted: April 28th, 2011
Just recently, Zach Galifianakis was forced to drop out of R.I.P.D. opposite Ryan Reynolds. Well now it looks like Jeff Bridges may be coming aboard the project in his wake. Directed by Robert Schwentke (Red), the supernatural comedy is based on the Dark Horse comic in which dead police officers patrol the underworld. Deadline reports that Bridges is now in talks to join the film following Galifianakis’ departure. The project has been in development for a while, and speaking to Steve earlier this month Reynolds said that he hopes to shoot it soon. Soon may be a ways off, however, because one of the reasons Galifianakis left the project was fear that Warner Bros. would be exercising their Green Lantern sequel option, forcing Reynolds to shoot Green Lantern 2 later this year, which would push R.I.P.D. back significantly. The casting of Bridges thrills me though; the guy’s comic timing is a thing of beauty. Hopefully things come together at some point to actually get this thing rolling. .............. http://collider.com/jeff-bridges-ripd/88081/

Will Smith and Josh Brolin keep in character as they film the third installment of the Men in Black series on Monday (April 11) in the Bronx, New York.
The 42-year-old actor has been filming all around New York City for the past several days. Just last week, Will was seen in action on location in the Big Apple!
Will is reprising his role as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones returns as Agent K, and Josh has been cast as a younger version of Tommy Lee!
Jeff Bridges gets ready to belt it out on the cover of Esquire magazine’s May 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (April 26).
The 61-year-old actor took Esquire’s Chris Jones to a recording studio with him after deciding he’d like to concentrate on music rather than acting.
“Acting, man,” Jeff said. “Believe me, I like life to come at me a little slower than that. I was just playing the calm guy….But I am taking advantage of the opportunity. Now’s the perfect time for me to do something like this.”
Kate Hudson wears a little lacy number on the cover of InStyle magazine’s May 2011 issue, on newsstands Friday (April 22).
The Something Borrowed actress, who’s expecting her second child this summer, chatted with the mag about her Muse rocker beau, Matt Bellamy!
The two met at Coachella: “[I was] watching Radiohead’s Thom Yorke with a guy I knew from high school, who introduced me to Matthew,” Kate said. “We realized we had met a few years earlier, in Australia. Then I got distracted and said, ‘I’ve got to find my friends; I don’t know where they went.’ He just looked at me and said, ‘Come on, I’ll take care of you.’ That’s when I went, ‘Wait a minute, who are you?’”
As for what she loves about him, Kate shared, “Matthew was polite and immediately protective, which for somebody like me who’s all over the place – one minute I’m over here and the next I’m over there – is important….He is just an amazing person.”

New Trailer and Images for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 21st, 2011 Disney has released a new trailer for Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I want to be excited for this flick but I still have mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, I can’t believe that the plot is yet again “Jack must get the Black Pearl back from another pirate.” But on the other hand, once the Pirates‘ theme music kicked in near the end of the trailer, I suddenly became pumped to return to this crazy world and see more adventure on the high seas. There are some good jokes in the trailer, some imaginative designs, and I hope that this movie delivers.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with two new images. Pirates of the Caribbean stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, and Geoffrey Rush. It opens in 3D on May 20th. ....... read more; http://collider.com/pirates-4-trailer-movie-images/81536/
Julianne Moore Joins Jeff Bridges in THE SEVENTH SON by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 21st, 2011 Julianne Moore has joined Jeff Bridges in Sergey Bodrov’s The Seventh Son. The film is an adaptation of the young adult novel The Last Apprentice and follows a young exorcist-in-training who can see and hear ghosts and smell death. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Moore will play Mother Malkin, “the most sinister of witches who uses blood magic.” As we previously reported, Bridges will play Exorcist Master Gregory, aka “The Spook”. Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence were both offered roles in The Seventh Son, but they have reportedly passed on the flick.
While Moore was overlooked in the awards race for her great performance in The Kids Are All Right, she’s still been picking up a slew of new roles. In the past two months, she’s signed on to the vampire thriller Innocence, Paul Weitz’ adaptation of Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, and she’ll play Sarah Palin in the HBO movie Game Change. Moore will next be seen in the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. with Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. Hit the jump for a synopsis of The Last Apprentice. ......... read more; http://collider.com/julianne-moore-the-seventh-son/81560/

One of the break-out stars from this year’s indie film scene is actress Brit Marling. She has played critically acclaimed roles in Zal Batmanglij’s Sound of My Voice and Mike Cahill’s Another Earth and now she tells Movieline that she’ll co-star in Nicholas Jarecki’s Arbitrage. The film stars Richard Gere stars as “a troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire makes an error that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help.” The film also stars Eva Green and Susan Sarandon. Joseph Gordon-Levitt NOT Playing Alberto Falcone in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 21st, 2011 When Joseph Gordon-Levitt entered talks to join The Dark Knight Rises, it kicked off heavy speculation on which role he would play. That sweet speculation even glided across the villain of Alberto Falcone aka “Holiday Killer” and this past weekend, Variety reported that a Batman rumor turned out to be true. But now EW is pumping the breaks and saying that Gordon-Levitt is in the film but not playing Falcone and I personally couldn’t be happier. I’m overjoyed not because I have anything against the character, but because now the empty rumor-mongering can continue and people can say which role they think Gordon-Levitt would be good for even though they have no idea how Christopher Nolan plans to interpret a pre-existing character from the comics.
Filming on The Dark Knight Rises begins in May and the film is set for a July 20, 2012 release date. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman will return to the franchise, and they’ll be joined by Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, as well as Juno Temple and possibly Marion Cotillard. ... read more; http://collider.com/the-dark-knight-rises-joseph-gordon-levitt-alberto-falcone-2/81593/
