Some new set images have emerged from the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. We got our first official look at Cohen in the titular role last week, and today’s set photos show that we’re in store for another very crazy character, as they capture him competing in a track race while utilizing a pistol to ensure that he’s the winner. The comedy “tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein.”
Hit the jump to check out the images. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno), the film also stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas.  The Dictator is set to open on May 11, 2012.  http://collider.com/dictator-set-photos-sacha-baron-cohen/96776/

Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin to Star in Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 16th, 2011

It looks like Jason Reitman is moving along with his next film. EW reports that Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin will play the leads in Reitman’s adaptation of Joyce Manard’s novel Labor Day. The book tells the story of a lonely mother whose 13-year-old son convinces her to take in a drifter who turns out to be a convicted murderer. Reitman wrote the screenplay and will direct the drama, which is set to start shooting in New England in 2012.
I was a huge fan of the writer/director’s Up in the Air, and Winslet and Brolin are both phenomenal actors, so it’s safe to say I’m looking forward to this one. Reitman is currently busy in post-production on Young Adult, a film he directed from a script by his Juno companion Diablo Cody. Young Adult stars Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt, and Paramount is set to distribute.  Brolin was initially interested in that film, but apparently scheduling couldn’t be worked out. Now it looks like he’ll get his chance to work with Reitman after all. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of Maynard’s novel. http://collider.com/kate-winslet-josh-brolin-labor-day/96769/

Paul Bettany Up for Role of Javert Opposite Hugh Jackman in LES MISERABLES; Chelsea Handler Joins Josh Schwartz’s FUN SIZE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 16th, 2011

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this morning. Last night, we reported that Hugh Jackman is currently in negotiations to star in director Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) big-budget musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Jackman is eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean, and now Deadline reports that Paul Bettany is a candidate to play the villainous police inspector Javert. Apparently he’s read for the role and sang a few songs from the stage musical. I like the idea of Bettany as Javert. He’s a fine dramatic actor, and he and Jackman make an interesting pair.
Additionally, THR reports that Chelsea Handler is in talks to join The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz’s feature directorial debut Fun Size. The comedy centers on a sarcastic teen who takes her little brother-trick-or-treating on Halloween only to lose him along the way. She must spend the rest of the night trying to track him down, with the help of her friends. Handler will play the mother of the teen girl. The cast now includes Victoria Justice (Victorious), Jane Levy, Thomas Mann (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) and Johnny Knoxville. http://collider.com/paul-bettany-les-miserables-chelsea-handler-fun-size/96740/

Hugh Jackman in Talks to Star in Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 15th, 2011

To say Hugh Jackman is versatile is a bit of an understatement. The guy can go from dark and brooding in X-Men to unbelievably charming and lively as host of the Oscars and the Tonys, as well as starring in Broadway’s The Boy from Oz. Given that he’s not too shabby at the whole song and dance thing, it makes perfect sense that he’s currently in talks to star in The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables. Variety reports that Jackman is currently in negotiations to take a starring role in the Universal flick, and THR reports that he’s eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean. Now, onto the casting of villainous police inspector Javert.
Les Miserables will be Hooper’s first project since winning the Best Director Oscar for last year’s The King’s Speech. William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) wrote the screenplay based on the stage musical, which itself was based on the classic Victor Hugo novel. Jackman’s schedule opened up when Darren Aronofsky dropped out of The Wolverine at the last minute, leaving Fox scrambling to find a new director. http://collider.com/hugh-jackman-les-miserables/96660/

Kodi Smit-McPhee in Talks to Play Benvolio in ROMEO AND JULIET Opposite Hailee Steinfeld; Corbin Bernsen Joins LAY THE FAVORITE

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 7th, 2011

And the casting stories keep on coming. 14-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) is in early negotiations to join Carlo Carlei’s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Variety reports that he’s being eyed for the role of Benvolio, Romeo’s cousin. Hailee Steinfeld is attached to star as Juliet, with Ed Westwick poised to play Tybalt and Holly Hunter set to take on the role of The Nurse. Italian director Carlei (Flight of the Innocent) will helm from a script by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park). The key roles of Romeo and Mercutio have yet to be cast, but production is set to begin this summer in Italy.
Additionally, Corbin Bernsen has joined the cast of the indie gambling comedy Lay the Favorite . Based on the memoir of Beth Raymer, the flick stars Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis, Vince Vaughn and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The story centers on Raymer’s rise from a Las Vegas cocktail waitress to one of the world’s best gamblers. Variety reports that Bernsen will play Hall’s father in the flick. Stephen Frears (High Fidelity) is directing from a sript by D.V. De Vincentis. I’m a big fan of Frears, and the cast he’s turning out is pretty impressive. Michael Pena Joins Sean Penn and Josh Brolin in GANGSTER SQUAD

by Jason Barr   Posted: June 7th, 2011

With their comedy 30 Minutes or Less set to hit theaters on August 12th, Michael Pena and director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) will now join forces once again in the crime/drama Gangster Squad. According to Heat Vision, Pena has been cast alongside Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Ryan Gosling, as an eager-to-please LAPD officer. For those unfamiliar with the project, Gangster Squad is based on an LA Times article by Paul Lieberman that focuses on corruption within LAPD ranks in the 1940s. The film will pit good cop John O’Mara (Brolin) against gangster Mickey Cohen (Penn) as the former attempts to keep East Coast mafia influences out of Los Angeles. Gangster Squad currently looks to be a 2013 release. In the meantime, Pena can also be seen alongside Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, and Casey Affleck in the action/comedy Tower Heist due out later this year on November 4th. http://collider.com/michael-pena-gangster-squad/95207/

First Look at Sacha Baron Cohen in THE DICTATOR

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: June 7th, 2011

dictator-set-photo-sacha-baron-cohen-slice-01
The first set photo has leaked from Sacha Baron Cohen’s next film The Dictator.  It’s Cohen’s first film where he’s not playing a character from Da Ali G Show, but it looks like it has the best premise since Borat:
The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein
Whether Cohen will be engaging in his candid camera antics or if this is a straight feature remains to be seen, but Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) will once again be behind the camera.  The film is also set to star Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas (The League).  Hit the jump to check out the photo of an All-American foreign dictator.  The Dictator is slated to open on May 11, 2012.

New Set Photos for Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM; Harvey Keitel Confirmed to Join Cast

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 7th, 2011

moonrise-kingdom-set-photo-slice-01
Wes Anderson may have gotten has filmography back on track with the charming Fantastic Mr. Fox but he’ll be headed back to live-action for his next feature, Moonrise Kingdom.  The film already has an impressive cast that includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and now, according to The Film Stage, Harvey Keitel.  The story “follows a young boy and girl (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing.”
Some set photos from the film have leaked online and one of them shows Norton as a scout leader and another has Murray out of costume but being awesome (which is innate to Bill Murray).  Due to the cast and the story, Focus Features may give Moonrise Kingdom a summer 2012 rather than Anderson’s typical awards season bow.

Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds On Set Interview THE CHANGE-UP

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 31st, 2011

change-up-movie-image-ryan-reynolds-jason-bateman-slice-02
This year, we’re getting two Jason Bateman movies and two Ryan Reynolds movies, and that is reason to celebrate.  Both actors have superb comic timing, and can carry a movie on their own.  The thought of them playing off each other is exciting, but their chemistry in The Change-Up becomes even more of a thrill when you realize that they’ll be playing against type.  While the beginning of the movie might have shades of Michael Bluth and Van Wilder sharing the screen (as if anyone would hate that), their characters Dave and Mitch switch bodies after peeing in a fountain and suddenly Bateman gets to go broad and Reynolds does more of a sardonic tone.  This may throw some audiences for a loop but fans of Reynolds and Bateman already know that both actors can excel at these kind of roles and the real hook is watching them share the screen.
On my visit to the set of The Change-Up, I spoke with the actors about filming in Atlanta, how they’re playing their roles, alternate takes, the hilarity of child endangerment, and much more.  Read this interview and you’ll instantly get a sense of how well Bateman and Reynolds play off each other.  The Change-Up opens August 5th. http://collider.com/jason-bateman-ryan-reynolds-interview-the-change-up/93542/

Collider Goes to the Set of THE CHANGE-UP

Several years ago, Georgia passed legislation promoting generous tax incentives to studios and producers, and as a result the filmmaking industry in the state has been booming.  Films shot here include Zombieland, The Crazies, Fast Five, Hall Pass, and the upcoming R-rated comedy The Change-Up.  This past January, I traveled to Powder Springs, GA with some fellow movie bloggers to visit the set of the film.  While director David Dobkin made a slight detour in 2007 with the family film Fred Claus, what I saw on the set convinced me that The Change-Up is going to be the worthy successor to Dobkin’s smash 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers.  The movie is an R-rated take on the classic body-switching premise that was best used in Freaky Friday. The interplay between stars Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds looked terrific, we saw some great jokes that had us struggling to suppress laughter so we could be quiet on the set, and as someone who has spent most of his life in Atlanta, I was pleased to learn that my hometown will actually be in the film as Atlanta.
Hit the jump for to read about my visit to the set of the film (and don’t worry—I’m not going to spoil any of the jokes).  The Change-Up opens August 5th. http://collider.com/the-change-up-set-visit/93028/

Hugo Weaving To Play Six Different Characters In The Wachowskis' Cloud Atlas

published: 2011-05-31 13:34:09 Author: Sean O'Connell
Hugo Weaving’s IMDB page boasts such mouthwateringly villainous roles as Agent Smith, Megatron and the Red Skull. But according to the actor, he’s about to add six new characters to his resume, though they’re all part of one film.

The movie, in question, is Cloud Atlas, an adaptation of David Mitchell’s sci-fi novel that tells six-separate-yet-somehow-interlocked stories that stretch through opposing times and spaces. Weaving joins Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon and Jim Broadbent for a production that’s being co-directed by his Matrix collaborators Lana and Andy Wachowski, as well as the visually creative Tom Tykwer (Run, Lola, Run).

"That's a project that's really exciting because all the actors will be playing more than one role," Weaving told the Herald Sun while promoting the film Oranges and Sunshine in Australia. "I actually have six characters in the same film and they are all different people in six different stories."

Seeing as how Atlas tells a science-fiction story, accepting such a narrative schism shouldn’t require a leap of faith. And the fact that the Atlas team is going with gifted character actors like Weaving, Hanks, Sarandon and Broadbent gives me hope that all six stories will hold out interest. The film currently has a May 4, 2012 release date, so we’ll bring you more information on this intriguing film as it develops.

Set Visit Report: Ryan Reynolds And Jason Bateman Get Raunchy In The Change-Up

published: 2011-05-31 10:41:31 Author: Katey Rich
If you find yourself seeing The Change-Up this summer and envying the house occupied by Jason Bateman and Leslie Mann's characters- the big kitchen counters, the lushly carpeted bedroom, the giant cushy couch-- keep in mind that the neighborhood isn't so great. Not only is there a burly grip or sound guy standing just outside pretty much every wall, but there's a dusty prop storage area right next door, and even though we're in Georgia, it's still January, and it's still freezing in there.

Because the house, of course, is just one of the many enormous sets that Universal has built at an old warehouse just west of Atlanta, where The Change-Up had been shooting for nearly three months when I visited the set in early January. The film is actually set in Atlanta, unlike a lot of productions that shoot there, and the production had already visited local landmarks like Turner Field and Piedmont Park-- a good time for them to wrap outdoor shooting, since a giant ice storm set in on the city the day we left the set. And even though this January day would be one of the last the crew spent in Atlanta, stars Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds and Leslie Mann were at work on a scene that comes early in the film, in which Reynolds's slacker friend character visits their lovely home and provides some, well, slightly inappropriate advice to their five-year-old daughter.

Just what that advice was varied from take to take. We watched director David Dobkin take Reynolds through dozens of different versions of the short scene, in which the little girl asks "Uncle Mitch" to attend her dance recital and he responds with everything from "Only if it's exotic dance" to "Absolutely not. Now go upstairs and do something with your hair." The young actress was a champ, hitting her cue each time, allowing Reynolds to toss her ludicrously (but safely) high in the air, and even faceplanting perfectly on cue every time he pushed her up the stairs at the end of the scene. Mitch, as you can probably tell, isn't really the most responsible uncle, and like a lot of things in movies by Wedding Crashers director Dobkin, it's a scene that wouldn't be funny in real life but hopefully will wind up hilarious onscreen.
"If you’re doing anything that you hope is worth doing, hopefully you’re making somebody uncomfortable, right?" Dobkin said later when the six of us visitors sat down with him at the big kitchen table on set. And the unexpected discomfort in The Change-Up actually starts with the premise, which takes the classic PG-rated notion of the body-switching comedy-- think Freaky Friday-- and transplants it to the foul-mouthed world of Dobkin and screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who also wrote a little R-rated comedy called The Hangover. Where characters in other body-switching comedies get switched by a magical wizard or toy, Dave (Bateman) and Mitch (Reynolds) switch after a night of drinking that ends with them peeing in a magic fountain. And The Change-Up is like other comedies in the genre, seeing its characters caught in wacky situations, it's probably got more sex and poop jokes than all the others combined.

All of it was on display in the scene we saw them shoot, despite the fact that two twin infants were on hand in their high chairs as Mitch joins Dave and his wife in the kitchen while the boys prepare for their night out. Mitch and Dave are longtime friends who have grown apart in recent years, as Dave spends time with his wife and three young kids while Mitch continues living a raucous bachelor lifestyle. In this scene we see Mitch arrive at the house, flirt shamelessly with Dave's wife (Leslie Mann) right in front of him, and usher Dave off to a night at a Braves baseball game-- a night that ends with them getting drunk, admitting they're each jealous of the other's life, and peeing in that magic fountain. The next morning they wake up in each others' bodies, and all kinds of hell breaks loose from there. In fact, why don't you check out the red-band trailer below as a reminder of just what's in store.
The director, writers and the cast were all wary of letting loose any jokes or gags beyond what you're seeing in the trailer, and understandably so-- comedies, especially raunchy comedies like The Change-Up, always rely on taking you by surprise. So when we talked to Dobkin, Lucas, and then Bateman and Reynolds together in breaks between scenes, we mostly focused on the bigger picture-- what it's like to make an R-rated comedy in this post-Hangover era, how to keep pushing the envelope without making it totally absurd, how to adapt the squeaky-clean PG kind of body-switching story into this raunchy comedy style, and of course, the eternal hilarity of hitting kids.

Tomorrow we'll have our conversation on the set with Bateman and Reynolds, including details about their years-long friendship that led them to team up in the film and what we learned about their characters by snooping around the sets that act as their bedrooms. Today, though, check out what Dobkin and Lucas had to say about deciding to team up on the film, where they see the future of R-rated comedy, and as Lucas puts it, why "if you learn anything in this movie, we’ve failed." The Change-Up hits theaters on August 5.

Angelina Jolie Says She Doesn't Want To Portray Cleopatra As A Sex Symbol

published: 2011-05-31 00:39:29 Author: Eric Eisenberg
While I can't see myself ever advocating a remake of Cleopatra, if there's a modern actress better suited for the part than Angelina Jolie I will eat my shoe. A true beauty in every sense of the word, it makes sense that the project has become a passion for the actress since being attached last year. Now Jolie has started openly talking about what direction she'd like to see the project go in, and what's strange is that her ideas would seemingly make her an unwise choice for the part.

Sitting down with The Telegraph, Jolie began to discuss researched elements about the real Cleopatra that she wants to be part of the film, calling the Egyptian queen "very misunderstood." For starters, the actress wants to cut out the elements dealing with her as a glamorous beauty and instead wants to focus on the stronger parts of her personality, mentioning that she was, "a very strong mother, she spoke five languages and she was a leader." Unable to get Elizabeth Taylor's blessing for the film before she died, Jolie even admits that her performance won't be "as lovely as Elizabeth’s" and won't explore the character as a sex symbol. Completely upending everything we think we know about the Cleopatra, Jolie then put out this interesting tidbit:

"Even this idea of her having many lovers – it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn’t a great beauty."
So here's my question: if Cleopatra wasn't actually a great beauty, why exactly should the part belong to Jolie? Shouldn't it go to somebody that hasn't repeatedly been named as one of the sexiest women in the world by multiple magazines and news outlets? I don't think I'd be alone in laughing if Jolie's script suggestions ended up with her losing the job. That would be pure, unadulterated irony. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Angelina-Jolie-Says-She-Doesn-t-Want-To-Portray-Cleopatra-As-A-Sex-Symbol-24974.html

CW Releases Extended Trailer for RINGER Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar

If you didn’t know by now, Sarah Michelle Gellar is making her return to TV on The CW’s new series Ringer. We reported the series pick-up last week along with some clips from the series itself, but now The CW has released an extended trailer that gives us a much better idea of what this show is all about. The series features Gellar as a woman, who after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. I’m not entirely convinced this is a must-watch series yet, but plenty of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will surely want to see Gellar’s return to the network. As for me, The CW has never really delivered the kind of programming I’m usually fond of, but I might give this a try. You can decide for yourself after watching the trailer after the jump. http://collider.com/ringer-extended-trailer-sarah-michelle-gellar/93054/

New Set Photos from MEN IN BLACK III

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 26th, 2011 at 10:04 am

New set photos from Men in Black III have leaked online.  This hasn’t exactly been the most secretive of sets as this is just the latest in series of set photos from the film.  But what do they have to hide?  You know a Men in Black has the main characters in sharp suits, there are weird gadgets, and there are some aliens.  Since I imagine that most of the aliens will be CG, so we’re not going to see those, and then there are the jokes.  We know that the premise has Agent J (Will Smith) going back in time to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster, but because they started filming without even having a finished script and had to delay the project so they could figure out how to finish the story, it’s tough to have hope for this project.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos (although a few contain what could be considered minor spoilers).  The film also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Rip Torn, and Johnny Knoxville.  Men in Black III opens in 3D on May 25, 2012. http://collider.com/men-in-black-3-set-photos-2/93041/

Matthew Vaughn on "Kick-Ass" Sequel

Posted: May 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

While promoting "X-Men: First Class," director Matthew Vaughn was asked for an update on the sequel to "Kick-Ass" since a sequel comic-book ("Kick-Ass: Balls to the Wall") has already been put together.

"We're still discussing that at the moment. We might do it," he said. "People forget that 'Kick-Ass' was made for $28 million and now with DVD and everything else has made $225 million in revenue. So it's done great business. A lot of people say it could be like 'Austin Powers,' how the first one people couldn't get their heads around, they all discovered it on video and then the second one was a huge blockbuster."

Vaughn continued: "My theory is I don't know how to make sure 'Kick-Ass 2' is as good as 'Kick Ass 1.' I enjoyed making the movie so much and I loved working with all the characters in it so who knows. There could be one but if I do a sequel to that it's gotta be just as good, if not better."

"Halloween 3" May Happen After "Hellraiser" Reboot

Posted: May 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

MTV caught up with director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer during the press junket for "Drive Angry" DVD, and asked about the third "Halloween" installment that the duo have been working on.

Farmer has already completed the script and they are in talks with the Weinstein Company to make the movie. Lussier explained: "We would make that the second somebody said, 'Yes, go make it,' because it's a script that we love and a script we're really passionate about and it's an amazing character and an incredible franchise, and it would just be a great experience for us to go back to the roots."

The plan was to make "Halloween 3" before "Drive Angry," but there wasn't enough time to make that happen. And now that they are working on the "Hellraiser" reboot, it may be a while before we get another "Halloween" film.

"Patrick and I had come up with sort of an idea and we went opening day to go see 'Halloween 2,' and we went out of there with an idea of how to continue it," said Farmer. "Hopefully if everything works out after 'Hellraiser' we'll go right in to 'Halloween.' Without cheating and with what [was] created in Zombie's [films], we'd continue the story and do so in a way that sort of brings us back to the tone of Carpenter that we started with."

Michael Fassbender on Playing James Bond After Daniel Craig

Posted: May 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

There are plenty of people who would love to take over the James Bond franchise after Daniel Craig leaves the iconic role. P. Diddy has expressed interest and so has Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four).

Now, in an interview with Michael Fassbender, the actor was asked if he would be interested in the role considering that his version of Magneto was so Bond-like in "X-Men: First Class."

"I really don't plan anything ever because it never seems to work," said the actor. "I'm just [like] - let's just get this film out and see how this one does. And I'm sort of in the middle of doing [Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus']. And Daniel [Craig] is doing a great job. We'll see what happens. I'm very flattered that people are sort of making that link, but – I don't know. We'll see."

Question: Would you like to see Fassbender as James Bond?

Steven Soderbergh to Direct Male-Stripper Film MAGIC MIKE Starring and Inspired By Channing Tatum

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 29th, 2011

You may ask yourself, “What would it take to prolong Steven Soderbergh’s retirement from directing?” The answer, apparently, is a movie about male strippers. The Ocean’s Eleven director just committed to helm Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum. The film is based on Tatum’s experiences as a 19-year-old stripper, and tells “a story of friendship set in the world of male strippers.” Here’s what the director had to say about the project:
“When Channing talked to me about this, I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie. I said I wanted in immediately. It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using Saturday Night Fever as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track.”
Soderbergh has long talked about retiring after filming his Liberace biopic with Michael Douglas, and this doesn’t seem to change things much. Deadline reports that he will squeeze Magic Mike in this fall before he shoots his last two fllms. Hit the jump to see what Tatum has to say about the project, as well as a rundown of Soderbergh’s final films before he heads into retirement.

MEN IN BLACK 3 Set Photos

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 29th, 2011

A couple more set photos have surfaced from the set of Men in Black 3. The film has gone through some very public script issues, but it appears that they sorted everything out. These set photos give another look at Will Smith and Josh Brolin as a young Agent K, following the first batch of set photos from earlier this month. Given the diner setting and the car parked outside, it’s safe to assume this takes place in the 60’s (the film involves Smith’s character traveling back in time to find the young Agent K).
Hit the jump to check out the photos. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the film also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Rip Torn and Johnny Knoxville.  Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25, 2012.

Sebastian Stan and Socratis Otto Join Amanda Seyfried in GONE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 29th, 2011

Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) have been set to join the cast of Gone. Variety reports that the duo will star alongside Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Emily Wickersham (I Am Number Four) and Wes Bently (Jonah Hex) in the thriller. The script by Allison Burnett (Fame) centers on “a kidnap survivor (Seyfried) who attempts to find the same killer whom she believes has abducted her sister.”
Heitor Dhalia (Adrift) is set to direct the film, with Summit Entertainment handling distribution. No word on what roles Stan and Otto will take on, but the film was supposed to start filming sometime this month. Stan will next be seen as Steve Rogers’ sidekick Bucky Barnes in Captain America.

Robert Zemeckis in Talks to Direct Time-Travel Film REPLAY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: April 29th, 2011

Could Robert Zemeckis finally be returning to live-action? And with a time-travel film to boot? It appears so, as Vulture reports that the director is in ”serious talks” to helm the adaptation of Ken Grimwood’s novel Replay. The thrilling premise centers on a radio journalist in his forties who dies, but awakes back in 1963 in his 18-year-old body with all of his previous memories intact. The kicker? He always dies in 1988, but returns to 1963 to start the whole 25 years over again with every single memory intact and the ability to make different life choices (spouse, kids, etc.)
This sounds like a fantastic concept, and a return to form for the Back to the Future director. Following the demise of his motion-capture Yellow Submarine remake, Zemeckis has been tooling around with a couple of live-action flicks. Most recently, he entered early negotiations to helm Flight with Denzel Washington. Hit the jump for more on both projects, as well which one Zemeckis might film first, and a synopsis of the novel Replay.

Blake Lively, John Travolta, and Uma Thurman Join Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson SAVAGES

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: April 21st, 2011

We heard last week Blake Lively was the frontrunner to play Ophelia in Oliver Stone’s adaptation of Savages, though for scheduling she had to choose between Savages and Oz: The Great and Powerful.  It seems Disney must look elsewhere for a Glinda the Good Witch, because Lively has signed on to Savages.  Additionally, John Travolta and Uma Thurman have joined a cast that is blossoming terrifically.  Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Salma Hayek, and Benicio Del Toro have long eyed roles in the film; Deadline writes confidently tonight that all four are on board.
Shane Salerno adapted the screenplay with Savages author Don Winslow.  The story centers a pair of marijuana growers (Kitsch and Johnson) who get into trouble with a Mexican drug cartel.  Read the full synopsis after the jump.

Warner Bros. Pays Seven Figures for Dan Fogelman Pitch; Tom Cruise Attached to Play Politician

by Brendan Bettinger   Posted: April 21st, 2011

Warner Bros. beat out Fox, Paramount, MGM, and other studios to win a bidding war for an untitled pitch by screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Tangled).  Tom Cruise is attached to star as a politician who is caught having an affair: “With his reputation in tatters, the politician retreats to his hometown to lick his wounds, repair relationships and confront his past.”  The deal pays $2 million upfront, with $3 million promised if the movie gets made.  This is the latest in a series of impressive spec script paydays for Fogelman.  WB paid $2.5 million for his Crazy, Stupid, Love screenplay which led to a summer comedy starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone.  Fogelman will reunite with Carell for his directorial debut, Imagine — that script netted the writer $3 million.  In addition to a story credit on Cars 2, Fogelman set up My Mother’s Curse at Paramount.  So basically, start preparing for the imminent Fogelmanization of your local theater in the next couple years.  More on the story after the jump.

Lindsay Lohan Officially Signed for "Gotti" Biopic

Posted: April 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Lindsay Lohan recently appeared at the press conference for the John Gotti biopic "Gotti: Three Generations," alongside John Travolta and director Nick Cassavetes.

Cassavetes then dropped out and negotiations with Lohan ended due to a dispute over money. "We are not talking any further about Lindsay playing Victoria," said producer Marc Fiore. "She is no longer being considered. The talks have stopped. We are going to meet with other people [for the role]."

But that was early Wednesday. Later that same day, negotiations resumed and Lohan is now officially on board. She was originally set to play Victoria Gotti, but will now star as John Gotti Jr's wife Kim. "I'm really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do," said Lohan.

Lohan shouldn't be too excited about getting the role. Kim Kardashian was also considered for it.

Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin in Talks for "Gangster Squad"

Posted: April 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros is in talks with Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin to star in the studio's upcoming "Gangster Squad," which is based on the LA Times 7-part series "Tales From the Gangster Squad."

The articles, written by Paul Lieberman, chronicle efforts by the Los Angeles Police Department to deal with increasing crime and corruption in 1940s Los Angeles by forming what was dubbed the Gangster Squad in an effort to keep East Coast organized crime figures from planting roots in the city.

Such directors as Ben Affleck (The Town), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum), and Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) have been rumored to helm the picture. In the end, Warners chose Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland).

The first official image from Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World has gone online.  The sequel/reboot stars Jessica Alba as former spy Marissa Cortez Wilson.  Marissa is called back into action when the villainous Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet.  The eponymous espionage children are Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook) who get into the spy game as they accompany their step-mom on the adventure.  I’m slightly surprised that the new film also features a spy toddler, but I guess if you want to reboot a franchise, you have to get new cast members as young as possible.
Hit the jump to check out the image.  The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, and Danny Trejo. Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World opens in 3D on August 19, 2011.

Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, and Josh Brolin in Talks to Star in GANGSTER SQUAD [Updated]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 21st, 2011

Last month, we reported that Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling had been offered roles in Ruben Fleischer’s 1940s crime-drama Gangster Squad.  Today, TheWrap is reporting that while Penn and Gosling are still in talks to play legendary gangster Mickey Cohen and a cop working to bring him to justice, respectively, Josh Brolin has been offered a role of a cop who would work alongside Gosling in their fight against Cohen.  Will Beall wrote the script based on a series of articles by Paul Lieberman.
Of course, it’s not difficult to offer an actor a role in a movie and we don’t know how serious these negotiations are at this point.  However, a cast led by Penn, Gosling, and Brolin would be an impressive display of acting talent. [Update: Variety reports all three actors are in active negotiations and that "Penn is nearing a deal to star and with Penn, every other offer was expected to fall into place."]

Tom Cruise in Talks for "Oblivion" Sci-Fi Film

Posted: April 13th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Universal Pictures is looking to finance and distribute "Oblivion," a sci-fi film by "Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski. The plan is to begin shooting this October and Tom Cruise is currently in talks to star.

"Oblivion" is a futuristic sci-fi love story that takes place in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds above an earth surface that has been rendered for the most part uninhabitable. An earthbound soldier - stuck there repairing drones that patrol and blast a savage alien life form - encounters a beautiful woman who crashed in a craft, and they have an experience that forces him to question his world view.

Universal has agreed to take on the film, but only if Kosinski is able to deliver a PG-13 version at a budget of around $100 million. William Monahan (The Departed) wrote the script.

Green Day's "American Idiot" Musical to Become a Film

Posted: April 13th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Universal Pictures is negotiating to turn the Green Day's Broadway musical "American Idiot" into a feature film. Oscar-winning writer Dustin Lance Black (Milk) is in talks to pen the script, and Michael Mayer will direct. Mayer helmed the musical, which is closing on Broadway April 24th and launching a tour in the fall.

The musical, which uses the songs of the punk band's 2004 album to tell the coming-of-age story of three small-town guys, was optioned before its opening last spring by Tom Hanks' Playtone. The production company previously turned the stage hit "Mamma Mia!" into a Universal film.

It is expected that Green Day lead singer/songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong will be courted to play the role of the drug dealer St. Jimmy. Each time he did a stint in the role on Broadway, the grosses rose considerably. The band was actively involved in the formation of the musical.

Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp in Talks for "Robocop"?

Posted: April 13th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Now that MGM has hired director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) and writer Josh Zetumer for the upcoming "Robocop" reboot, the studio is now focusing on casting.

According to Moviehole, MGM wants a major Hollywood actor on board and has approached Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp to play the lead role. The site says that the three actors are just part of a wish-list, which apparently doesn't contain any unknowns.

"Robocop" revolves around a cop brought back from death and drafted to become a remorseless and ruthless cyborg cop. That plan is subverted when suppressed memories of his past life come back to haunt him.

Matt Reeves to Direct "They Live" Remake

Posted: April 11th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) has signed on to write and direct a feature film based on Ray Nelson's "8 O'Clock in the Morning" short story, which was also used as the basis for John Carpenter's 1988 film "The Live."

The story is about a man who awakens one morning with the crystal-clear realization that we are surrounded daily by the presence of aliens that are controlling society.

"I saw an opportunity to do a movie that was very point-of-view driven, a psychological science fiction thriller that explores this guy's nightmare," said Reeves. "There could be a desperate love story at the center of this. Carpenter took a satirical view of the material and the larger political implication that we're being controlled. I am very drawn to the emotional side, the nightmare experience with the paranoia of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' or a Roman Polanski-style film."

Reeves said he will begin writing immediately.
