Trailer for MEEK’S CUTOFF Starring Michelle Williams

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 26th, 2011

Oscilloscope has released the first trailer for Meek’s Cutoff, an indie western set in 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail.  Three families hire Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood) to lead them on a troubled journey over the Cascade Mountains.  Michelle Williams, Will Patton, Zoe Kazan, Paul Dano, Shirley Henderson, Neal Huff, Tommy Nelson, and Rod Rondeauxn star alongside Greenwood, a character actor I’m excited to see in a lead role.
The trailer effectively invokes a quiet, moody atmosphere.  I expect no less from director Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy).  Watch the trailer after the break.

Michael Fassbender Says He's an Android in "Alien" Prequel

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
When Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) first joined the cast of Ridley Scott's upcoming "Alien" prequel, called "Prometheus," his character was described as an early version of Bishop 341-B android that Lance Henriksen played in "Aliens."

Since 20th Century Fox gave Scott permission to make an original sci-fi film, rather than an "Alien" prequel, there is no telling how the role has changed. So Entertainment Weekly went right to the source and asked Fassbender if he will play an android.

"I don't know what I can say," the actor said with a laugh. He then looked down at the tape-recorder and nodded affirmatively. "I don't want to get into trouble."

Regarding the film, he said: "It's a different story, but it's also got the traditional roots. 'Alien' fans will recognize things in it. It's not ignoring 'Alien,' there's still a link to that world. But it's a different story. It's definitely connected, though."

Ruffalo Says The Hulk Looks Just Like Him

Sunday, February 27, 2011 1:21 AM
MTV caught up with Mark Ruffalo at Saturday's 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards and got an interesting response when they asked if the Hulk in The Avengers will look like the actor. Here is what he said, and you can also watch him say the quotes using the video player:

"It's cool, it's gonna be great. The script is a nice combination of funny and was very in Joss Whedon's wheelhouse. And I got to see the maquette of the Hulk yesterday in full scope and it's awesome. Just like me. We're going out of our way to... first of all, I'm the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk. And so, all the features are mine, they're just really big."

Meek's Cutoff Trailer: Go On The Oregon Trail With Michelle Williams

published: 2011-02-25 18:23:45 Author: Eric Eisenberg
What's better than the fact that we might be right in the middle of a western revolution spearheaded by movies like True Grit, Rango and Cowboys & Aliens? We are about to get a western with Michelle Williams, Paul Dano and Bruce Greenwood in a glorious, glorious beard.

Apple has premiered the first trailer for Meek's Cutoff, which you may remember hearing about when the awesome first poster came online last week. Set during the early days of the Oregon Trail (everyone quickly remember their middle school computer classes), the film tells the story of three families who find themselves lost in the middle of the desert. Upon meeting a Native American that says that he can help them, however, they don't know who to trust.

Check out the trailer below or in HD over on Apple.

Kate Mara And Treat Williams Join Cast Of Indie Crime Drama Blackbird

published: 2011-02-25 16:29:21 Author: Katey Rich
Kate Mara and Treat Williams are co-stars in one of this year's Best Picture nominees, but I bet I could give you 5 minutes and you wouldn't be able to remember which one. The two are among the actors glimpsed briefly and memorably in 127 Hours, Mara as one of the female hikers Aron Ralston runs into just before getting trapped beneath a boulder, and Williams as the father glimpsed in flashbacks. Mara and Williams were likely never near the set together, but now they'll get the chance to work together properly. Variety reports that they've both signed on for Blackbird, the indie crime thriller formerly known as Kin that also stars Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Sissy Spacey, Kris Kristofferson and Charlie Hunnam.

Hunnam is the main character, a boxer recently released from prison; Spacey and Kristofferson play his parents, Bana and Wilde are a pair of fugitives who cross his path, and Mara and Williams will play a father-daughter team who run into him as well. Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky, who made the surprise Best Foreign Language Film Oscar winner The Counterfeiters, will be making his English-language debut with the film, which starts production next month in Montreal. It's a seriously impressive cast, especially for a director so new, though it'll be interesting to see if Ruzowitzky can wrangle what sounds like a lot of plot threads. Then again everyone thought 127 Hours was way too challenging to work, and Mara and Williams know firsthand how that turned out.

Joel McHale Joins Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in Seth MacFarlane’s TED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Joel McHale is in final negotiations to join the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy Ted.  The story centers on a man (Mark Wahlberg) who’s life is complicated when his childhood wish for his teddy bear, Ted (voiced and played by MacFarlane via motion capture), comes to life.  Kunis will play the girlfriend of Wahlberg’s character who wants marriage, but only if her boyfriend gets a handle on his relationship with his pot-smoking, foul-mouthed, now-alive teddy bear.  Deadline reports that “McHale will play Rex, the sleazy boss who is perpetually putting the moves on Kunis’ character.”
In addition to starring on NBC’s Community (the best comedy on TV that you’re not watching) and hosting E!’s The Soup, McHale has three films set to come out this year: Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World (August 19th), the Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number (September 30th), and The Big Year co-starring Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson (October 14th).  He’s also hosting the Independent Spirit Awards, which air tomorrow night at 10pm on IFC.

New Trailer for MIRAL Starring Freida Pinto

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

The Weinstein Company have release a new trailer for Miral, the new film from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly director Julian Schnabel.  A French trailer for the film went online last summer, but I had trouble gathering what the story was about.  This new trailer does a better job of explaining that Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) plays a student who gets caught up in the events of the Intifada resistance.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Miral opens March 25th.

Guy Pearce Was Almost in "Batman Begins"

Posted: February 26th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Fans have been expecting Guy Pearce (Memento) to appear in one of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, but it has yet to happen. According to the actor, Nolan actually approached him to play a role in "Batman Begins."

"Chris Nolan flew me to London to talk about one of the other roles in ['Batman Begins']," he said. "It was Liam Neeson's role. And there was talk about having the mentor be the same age as Christian Bale, rather than be an older mentor. But maybe they tossed the idea around and other people went, 'No, that's not gonna work.'"

Pearce went on to say that he was also offered the chance to play the lead in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie, which Ben Affleck ended up starring in.

"I was offered the first 'Daredevil,' yeah," he explained, adding that he eventually turned down the role. "It wasn't really my — I mean, I wasn't really sort of — I don't know. Comic-strip stuff isn't really my cup of tea."

Production on MEN IN BLACK III Pushed Back Again

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 15th, 2011

slice_men_in_black_movie_image_tommy_lee_jones_will_smith_01
The oft-delayed production of Men in Black III just hit another bump in the road. Director Barry Sonnenfeld rolled cameras on the flick back in November, with production set to take a two-month hiatus from December to February to work on script issues, after which everyone would head back to work to finish the film up. Well, it appears that those script issues haven’t been quite cleared up yet, as production has now been moved back to March 28th.
24 Frames reports that filming on the 3D flick was set to resume this week, but producers put the kibosh on that and slated production to resume in one month’s time. Sonnefeld and company shot most of the present day-set scenes before the year was out, and were set to come back this month to roll on the time-travel scenes (involving Josh Brolin as a young Agent K), which were to have been cleaned up in a script rewrite. Hit the jump for more.

Warner Bros. Offers 300 Sequel XERXES to Director Guy Ritchie

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 15th, 2011

In a bit of a twist, it appears that Warner Bros. has offered the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300 to director Guy Ritchie, instead of having Snyder helm the flick himself. Snyder, of course, is busy prepping his Superman film The Man of Steel right now, so it’s understandable that he’s busy. Still, most assumed that he would be taking on Xerxes after Man of Steel, or at least sometime in the future.
Vulture reports that Warner Bros. wants Snyder’s attention focused squarely on Man of Steel at the moment, as sources tell them that the story is suffering some “major third act problems” and the studio wants to get the film out as soon as possible. In addition, Vulture hears that Snyder’s upcoming Sucker Punch has not exactly been testing great. Snyder wrote the script to Xerxes, and one assumes that he would at least stay on to produce the film. Ritchie hasn’t agreed to direct the film yet, but the offer’s out to him, and WB seems to think he’s their guy, so now the ball’s in his court. Nevertheless, it does appear that Snyder won’t be directing the flick. Hit the jump for more on the project. ......  http://collider.com/guy-ritchie-xerxes/76341/

Daniel Radcliffe Joins THE AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 15th, 2011

Daniel Radcliffe will star in the indie drama The Amateur Photographer. Emmy-nominated scribe Christopher Monger (HBO’s Temple Grandin) will direct the film from his own screenplay which is also, coincidentally enough, based on his own novel of the same name. Ted Hope and Anne Carey will co-produce the film, alongside Karen Montgomery, via their This Is That Prods. moniker. Per Variety, The Amateur Photographer is set in 1970’s New England and tells the story of a young man (Radcliffe) who discovers his knack for all things artistic after being recruited by the citizens of a small mill town to photograph their “most intimate moments.”
Although its elevator pitch may end on a somewhat awkward note, I’m interested in seeing how life after Harry Potter treats Radcliffe and The Amateur Photographer will seemingly constitute a small part of that.  Speaking of life after Potter, Radcliffe will complete his run as the boy wizard on July 15th in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.  He can also be seen in the UK horror thriller The Woman in Black which opens October 28th of this year in the UK.

Girls With Guns: New Posters for HANNA and MEEK’S CUTOFF

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 15th, 2011

You don’t want to mess the women featured on tonight’s set of posters.  Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) plays a young girl trained by her ex-CIA father (Eric Bana) to be the perfect assassin in Hanna, directed by Joe Wright (Atonement).  Ronan upgrades from bow and arrow on the first poster for Hanna to a cocked handgun.
The weapon technology wielded by Michelle Williams lies somewhere in between, with a shotgun pointed about three people to the left of us (phew) to promote Meek’s Cutoff.  The western is set in 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail: Williams is among three families that hire Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood) to lead them on a troubled journey over the Cascade Mountains.  Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy) directs.
