Kate Winslet: Yo Dona Awards!

Kate Winslet arrives at the Yo Dona International Awards held at the Palacio de Cristal de Arganzuela on Tuesday (June 21) in Madrid, Spain.

The 35-year-old British actress donned Victoria Beckham and hit the stage during the ceremony, where she was honored with an award for her humanitarian work.

Kate’s Mildred Pierce co-star, Guy Pearce, recently praised her work ethic on the set of the HBO miniseries.

“Her intelligence and capacity to do this detailed and complex role while dealing with her personal life was just mind-blowing,” he told the L.A. Times.

“We all knew she was going through a breakup, and yet she was so present, and so prepared. And furthermore, she’s funny, and forever entertaining to be around. She’s a real leveler - to her, everyone in the room is equal. She’s the bee’s knees, really,” he added.

Sophia Bush Covers 'Zooey' Magazine June/July 2011

Sophia Bush graces the cover of Zooey magazine’s June/July 2011 issue.
Here’s what the 28-year-old actress had to share:
On always being passionate about activism: “It’s funny. As a kid, I asked my mom if I could start a beach clean up on Saturdays with my friends. She said, ‘Well, Sweetheart, I don’t think many six-year-olds are going to want to go to the beach and pick up trash on Saturday.’ But, I was very gung ho about the whole thing. Causes and social issues have always really registered with me.”
On doing the right thing: “I think I’ve always had a very clear idea of what’s right and wrong. And a very clear sense that we should always try to do the right thing, even when it’s not the easy thing. It’s something that I think baffled my parents at moments, but they’ve been really supportive, too. They’ve given me an excep tional education, from the time that I was a little girl.”

Evan Rachel Wood Debuts Pixie Cut

Evan Rachel Wood shows off her dramatic shorter hairdo at the True Blood Season 4 premiere on Tuesday (June 21) at the ArcLight’s Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles.

The 23-year-old hit the red carpet in a pair of gray pants with a matching vest and red suspenders all by Dolce&Gabbana.

Evan recently chatted with Britain’s Stella magazine about growing up in the spotlight.

“Everybody is entitled to be crazy in their 20s. I think I was making up for lost time. I was trying everything, touring with a rock band, trying different looks, exploring who I was sexually as a woman,” she explained.

“I never wanted to look back and be like, ‘Oh, man. I wish when I was young I had just hopped on that tour bus,” she added.

Some new set images have emerged from the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. We got our first official look at Cohen in the titular role last week, and today’s set photos show that we’re in store for another very crazy character, as they capture him competing in a track race while utilizing a pistol to ensure that he’s the winner. The comedy “tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein.”

Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin to Star in Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY

It looks like Jason Reitman is moving along with his next film. EW reports that Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin will play the leads in Reitman’s adaptation of Joyce Manard’s novel Labor Day. The book tells the story of a lonely mother whose 13-year-old son convinces her to take in a drifter who turns out to be a convicted murderer. Reitman wrote the screenplay and will direct the drama, which is set to start shooting in New England in 2012.

I was a huge fan of the writer/director’s Up in the Air, and Winslet and Brolin are both phenomenal actors, so it’s safe to say I’m looking forward to this one. Reitman is currently busy in post-production on Young Adult, a film he directed from a script by his Juno companion Diablo Cody. Young Adult stars Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt, and Paramount is set to distribute.  Brolin was initially interested in that film, but apparently scheduling couldn’t be worked out. Paul Bettany Up for Role of Javert Opposite Hugh Jackman in LES MISERABLES; Chelsea Handler Joins Josh Schwartz’s FUN SIZE

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this morning. Last night, we reported that Hugh Jackman is currently in negotiations to star in director Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) big-budget musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Jackman is eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean, and now Deadline reports that Paul Bettany is a candidate to play the villainous police inspector Javert. Apparently he’s read for the role and sang a few songs from the stage musical. I like the idea of Bettany as Javert. He’s a fine dramatic actor, and he and Jackman make an interesting pair.

Additionally, THR reports that Chelsea Handler is in talks to join The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz’s feature directorial debut Fun Size. The comedy centers on a sarcastic teen who takes her little brother-trick-or-treating on Halloween only to lose him along the way. She must spend the rest of the night trying to track him down, with the help of her friends. Handler will play the mother of the teen girl. Hugh Jackman in Talks to Star in Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES

To say Hugh Jackman is versatile is a bit of an understatement. The guy can go from dark and brooding in X-Men to unbelievably charming and lively as host of the Oscars and the Tonys, as well as starring in Broadway’s The Boy from Oz. Given that he’s not too shabby at the whole song and dance thing, it makes perfect sense that he’s currently in talks to star in The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables. Variety reports that Jackman is currently in negotiations to take a starring role in the Universal flick, and THR reports that he’s eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean. Now, onto the casting of villainous police inspector Javert.
Les Miserables will be Hooper’s first project since winning the Best Director Oscar for last year’s The King’s Speech. William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) wrote the screenplay based on the stage musical, which itself was based on the classic Victor Hugo novel. Earlier in the day, the 46-year-old actress was spotted leaving her Manhattan apartment carrying a Walton’s Fancy & Staple tote bag.


Sandra, along with her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado, opened Walton’s in 2009.


The bakery, deli, and florist shop in Austin, Texas serves some tasty treats developed by Gesine, who also owns a baking business in Vermont.


Earlier in the week, Sandra enjoyed some downtime with her son Louis at a playground in NYC.

The couple tied the knot in front of family and friends at Reese’s ranch on Saturday (March 26) in Ojai, Calif. Her kids, Ava, 11 and Deacon, 7, attended the ceremony with Reese’s first husband Ryan Phillippe.


According to Us Weekly, Reese wore a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier gown for the big day.


Isla Fisher, who is also represented by Jim’s talent agency, was also in attendance at the wedding, along with Renee Zellweger, Alyssa Milano, Salma Hayek, Tobey Maguire, and Robert Downey Jr.


Reese, 35, and Jim, an agent at Hollywood talent agency CAA, got engaged in December after a year of dating.

Producer Scott Rudin’s Cleopatra biopic is continuing its search for a top-tier director. Last October, James Cameron was in talks for the gig, but he decided to direct Avatar sequels instead. Then Paul Greengrass started circling the project, but chose to helm Memphis, which is about the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Now Deadline is reporting that Rudin wants to re-team with David Fincher on the project which is set to star Angelina Jolie as the Egyptian queen.

First Look at Roman Polanski’s CARNAGE Starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly, and Christoph Waltz

The first image from Roman Polanski’s new film Carnage (based off the play God of Carnage) has gone online. The film stars Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christopher Waltz as two sets of parents who come together to talk about a schoolyard fight between their kids. If that cast combined with this director doesn’t make you want to see this movie, you’re nuts. And while Polanski is known for the deadly seriousness of his movies, Foster says the movie has some humor:


“It all happens in real-time, so it’s about an hour and 45 minutes of negotiation between two sets of parents and how it all falls apart,” she said. “Kind of like Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, but a little funnier. There’s a lot of wit.”

Alexander Payne’s THE DESCENDANTS Set for December 16th; ONE FOR THE MONEY Falls to January 27, 2012

For those who like to plan in far in advance, we have some release date news for you this morning. First up, Fox Searchlight has set Alexander Payne’s The Descendants for December 16th. The film stars George Clooney as a wealthy landowner who tries to re-connect with his daughters. While the release date puts it in prime position for awards season, it will have to contend with three blockbusters getting released the same day: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Presumably, Searchlight is going to start out with a limited release and then expand the film since releasing it wide as counter-programming would be incredibly risky. I’m also going to assume that The Descendants will make the rounds at various fall film festivals because if you make a modestly-budgeted film starring George Clooney, federal law requires that you show it at Toronto and/or Telluride.

Chris Hemsworth: Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo Q&A!

Chris Hemsworth is all smiles as he attends a Q&A session at the 2011 Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo on Saturday (March 19) in Chicago, Illinois.


The 27-year-old Australian actor revealed some production details about the upcoming superhero flick Thor hitting theaters on May 6.


“The film is so well put together. It’s a blend of fantasy and sci-fi,” Chris told IGN. “Audiences aren’t silly; Can’t trick them to believe that something CG is actually the real thing. I was swept along like an audience member and able to enjoy it like an audience member. Very happy with finished film.”

The 35-year-old actress, in a Roland Mouret dress, posed for famed fashion photographer Mario Testino.
“Experiencing those moments of being alone … is a very, very weird flooring and exposing position to be in when you’re just not used to it. And it’s not just being in a relationship. It’s also the fact that I grew up in a family full of people,” Kate told the magazine (via PopEater) about being single.
“But I’ve never been lonely. And with my kids Mia and Joe that remains the case,” she added.
“But to be in this place now where I can say I really like this space, I really need to not have anyone around,” she explained. “It’s a surprise to discover that I like being on my own.”

Marc Anthony: HawthoRNe Series Regular!

Marc Anthony has joined the cast of TNT’s hospital drama HawthoRNe.
The 41-year-old Grammy-winning singer and actor will be joining as a series regular, reprising the newly expanded role of Police Detective Nick Renata, the character he introduced as a guest star in two episodes last season.
HawthoRNe, which is scheduled to return for its third season this June, also stars and is executive-produced by Jada Pinkett Smith.
Marc’s wife, Jennifer Lopez, is also on television. She’s currently a judge on American Idol!

'Rock of Ages' just scored another big name. Alec Baldwin is joining the highly anticipated musical, according to director Adam Shankman, who confirmed the news over Twitter.

"So, based on info I got today, I'm gonna confirm Alec Baldwin as Dennis in Rock Of Ages. Hollah," Shankman wrote.

The '30 Rock' star will play the part of Dennis Dupree, an ex-rocker who runs the Rock of Ages nightclub in order to hold onto his rock star past.

Baldwin is the latest bold name to join the all-star cast, which includes Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige and Julianne Hough.

"Can't wait to start #rockofagesmovie. Julianne Hough, alec Baldwin, Mary j Blige, Tom cruis confirmed. I love my cast. More to come," the director tweeted.
Though there's been no response from Baldwin about his new part, Hough was quick to announce her excitement for her new role as Sherrie Christian.

"Words can't even express how thrilled I am to be a part of this film," the actress, dancer and country singer said in a statement to EW.com. "Between Adam and the cast and the material, it's just a dream come true."

Set in 1987 on the LA Sunset Strip, 'Rock of Ages' is the story of a small town girl who meets a big city rocker in an LA rock club, as they fall in love to a soundtrack of the greatest songs of the '80s.

Neil Patrick Harris: 'How I Met Your Mother' Renewed!

How I Met Your Mother has been renewed for another two seasons. Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, and Cobie Smulders!
“HIMYM picked up for 2 more years!” Neil tweeted. “Yahoo! With so much job security, I should buy something extravagant. Like a pony. Or some gold teeth!”
HIMYM premiered in September 2005, has been one of CBS’ top-rated Monday comedies, and is currently in its sixth season.

Kate Winslet rocks an Herve Leger by Max Azria dress paired with Van Cleef & Arpels earrings on the cover of Glamour magazine’s April 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (March 8).
Here’s what the 35-year-old Mildred Pierce actress had to share:
On weight struggles when she was younger: “I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me - and it was such a backhanded compliment - they would say, ‘You’ve got such a beautiful face,’ in the way of, like, ‘Oh, isn’t it a shame that from the neck down you’re questionable.’ ”
On whether she’s had plastic surgery or wants to change anything about her body: “No, I have never tried any of that stuff…I don’t have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else’s or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are.”
On what it was like to win the Oscar: “I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn’t on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn’t me, so winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal-fist-pumping moment of yes.”
On if her ambition has changed since winning an Oscar: “I have just wanted to be an actress. That’s always been my goal. I didn’t want to be famous. I wanted to play incredibly challenging, multifaceted characters. Because we are all a puzzle.”
On the difficulties of raising kids: “The challenge is making sure that they’re never treated different just because I sometimes am. I always want them to be regular kids who are grateful and respectful of other human beings. I want them to know that when we fly first-class, that they are lucky. The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids - and I can say that this does happen frequently - is when the in-flight crew say to me, ‘Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved.’ Every time I am told that, I could weep.”

Four Actors Join Keanu Reeves in "47 Ronin"

Four Japanese actors have joined "47 Ronin," the upcoming Universal Pictures film that stars Keanu Reeves and is about a group of warriors on a vengeance quest.


Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai), Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano (Thor) and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) join the cast. Ken Watanabe's name had been coming up often, but Universal insiders say that was merely a rumor.


The new movie, directed by Carl Rinsch, is inspired by the Japanese legend about the 47 Ronin, who seek vengeance against an overlord who banished them. It is set to hit conventional and 3D theaters on November 11th, 2012.

No Plans for "The A-Team" Sequel

The A-Team" cost $110 million to make, but grossed only $77 million domestically. The film ended up grossing another $99 million internationally, but that wasn't enough for 20th Century Fox to move forward with a sequel.


Then came word that if "The A-Team" performs well on Blu-ray/DVD, then a sequel may happen. Now that it has been a few months after the release, DigitalSpy caught up with Liam Neeson to get an update.


"There's nothing planned at the minute, but the studios certainly aren't saying no," the actor explained. "I personally would love to get on the horse again with Bradley and Sharlto and Rampage - we all would. But it's a question of dollars and cents."


He continued: "I thought it was a really good movie, and thought it would've done much, much better at the box office in America, but the studio released it the day after the World Cup started, and I think that probably affected the overall performance of the film."

Second Trailer For Kate Hudson Rom-Com Something Borrowed

Everyone quickly grab their thinking caps, it's time for a pop quiz (don't worry, you won't graded and it's only one question). Ready? Here it is: when was the last time that Kate Hudson made a film that was given overwhelmingly positive reviews? If you answered 2000's Almost Famous then you are right on the money. In the eleven years since, Hudson hasn't made a film that has received a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Does this mean that Something Borrowed is absolutely guaranteed to be terrible? Absolutely not. But the look of the new trailer isn't helping any.


Apple has posted the second look at the rom-com, which appears to be as cookie-cutter as they come. In the movie Ginnifer Goodwin plays a young woman who misses out on her chance to be with the man of her dreams (Colin Egglesfield) and watches him become involved with her best friend (Hudson). But as Egglesfield and Hudson are about to get married Goodwin makes out with him and everything goes nuts.

47 Ronin Gets A Start Date, Four New Japanese Cast Members

After spending so many years watching Keanu Reeves play the ass-kicking Jesus figure, he's somewhat fallen off the map. The actor's last major release was The Day The Earth Stood Still back in 2008, and while he has done projects since, they haven't been anywhere near the same scale. Lucky for us he'll be making his comeback with 47 Ronin and now the film not only has a production schedule, but Reeves has some new co-stars.


Universal has sent out a press release announcing that the new film, directed by Carl Erik Rinsch, is officially scheduled to begin production on March 14. Also, in addition to the previously announced Reeves, the cast has added Japanese actors Hiroyuki San, Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi. Based on a script by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini, the film tells the story of an outcast who joins a group of warriors called the 47 Ronin who seek vengeance against the man who killed their master.


The release also came with an image of the cast and the director, which you can see below (click on it to see the photo in high-res). From right to left there is Rinko Kikuchi, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Keanu Reeves, Kou Shibasaki, and Carl Rinsch. The film is set to be released on November 21, 2012. A couple of casting stories for you today. Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) and Harry Connick Jr. will headline the holiday family film When Angels Sing. The film will be directed by Tim McCanlies (Secondhand Lions), with a script by Lou Berney adapted from the novel of the same name by Turk Pipkin (Best. Name. Ever.). Variety reports that Kris Kristofferson, Chandler Canterbury, Willie Nelson, Fionnula Flanagan, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson and Lyle Lovett round out the Texas country music-themed cast.

Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) will star in the drama documentary Who is Dayani Cristal?. The documentary recently started filming and explores the immigration debate sparked by the discovery of an unidentified body found on the US/Mexico border with a tattoo that reads “Dayani Cristal” as the only identifying mark. Variety reports that the film is being produced by Pulse Films and Bernal’s own company Canana.

First Look at Jude Law on the Set of Steven Soderbergh’s CONTAGION

Steven Soderbergh’s action-thriller Contagion is now filming, and Jude Law has been spotted on set. The star-studded thriller features Law, Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Lawrence Fishbourne, Bryan Cranston, Demitri Martin and Elliott Gould. The film centers on a team of international doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with a deadly virus outbreak. As if the cast wasn’t reason enough to see the flick, Matt Damon recently revealed that Soderbergh will be retiring soon, after his biopic Liberace with Damon and Michael Douglas and one last possible foray with George Clooney. Unofficial set photos have landed online of Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.  Obviously, this is from Hoover’s younger years as opposed to when he was older and had the face of an angry, wrinkled infant.  The film will explore Hoover’s closeted homosexuality and his relationship with Clyde Toulson (played by The Social Network’s Armie Hammer).

The Coen Brothers Writing a “Full-on Horror Movie”

The Coen Brothers have shown that they can do just about anything.  They can bend any genre, they can hit any tone, and they’ve hit a winning streak that shows no sign of slowing down.  But what will be their follow-up to True Grit?  Ethan Coen tells Empire that they might be going into the horror business.  When Coen was asked if they would ever do a film in the horror genre, he replied:

“Funny you should ask, yes, we’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.”

The part about McDormand may be a joke (she’s his sister-in-law), but it would be awesome to see them go into the horror genre.  They’ve never shied away from the horrific, but to see them pursue a film firmly in the genre and seeing how they’ll twist it sounds like it could be incredible.  Hit the jump for Coen had to say about their other potential projects.

New Trailer for the HBO Miniseries MILDRED PIERCE Starring Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce

Back in September, we got our first look at the anticipated HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce in the form of an impressive first trailer. Now HBO has released another trailer as we inch closer to the March 27th premiere. The miniseries (directed by Far from Heaven helmer Todd Haynes and based on James M. Cain’s novel) follows a proud, single mother (Winslet) struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the depression in middle-class Los Angeles. You’ll probably recognize the song from the first half of the trailer as the very same one that graced the first half of the trailer for The Fighter, but don’t take my word for it. The five-part HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce, based on James M. Cain’s 1941 novel and premiering March 27^th, tells the epic story of a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter’s love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles. Mildred Pierce (Kate Winslet) is a uniquely independent woman and her story is an intimate portrait of a new divorcee, struggling to carve out a new life for herself and her daughter, Veda (Evan Rachel Wood), for whom she is unreasonably devoted.

During a recent interview to promote the intriguing new project, actress Kate Winslet and co-writer/director/executive producer Todd Haynes talked about their approach to this complex and nuanced work, the marathon experience of bringing this story to life, working in television for the first time, and steering clear of the original film, in developing the portrayal of this woman. Tribeca Film and Miramax to Release LAST NIGHT This Spring

Tribeca Film and Miramax have just sent out a press release announcing their plans to release the drama Last Night this Spring.  The film premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and stars Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes, and Guillaume Canet.  Tribeca Film will distribute the film theatrically and also through national VOD platforms.  Miramax will handle home video, television sales, and long-term digital rights.

Last Night “centers on a married couple (Knightley and Worthington) apart for an evening when the husband takes a business trip with a colleague (Mendes) to whom he’s attracted.  While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love (Canet).”  Hit the jump for the full press release.

Woody Allen’s MIDNIGHT IN PARIS to Open 2011 Cannes Film Festival

Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, a romcom which was shot in Paris last year, is set to open the 64^th Cannes Film Festival on May 11^th and will be released in French theaters on the same day. The movie features an international all-star cast, including Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Léa Seydoux and Gad Elmaleh.

But the talk of the town is the very special cameo appearance by a certain French leading lady. Find out who after the jump.

In 2009, while Allen was promoting Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Paris, he announced at a press conference that he would love to cast Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The French First Lady accepted the offer and filmed her scenes last summer in Paris. Her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, is reportedly a huge Woody Allen fan.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is no stranger to showbiz. The Italian-born beauty was part of the supermodel clique of the 90s that included Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington, before successfully recycling herself as a folk singer, perhaps fancying herself as a modern-day Joan Baez or Patti Smith. She has released three successful albums and announced Monday in an interview with the daily newspaper Le Parisien that a fourth one was in preparation.

In the U.S., she is more well-known for her sense of style and chic. And Woody Allen, who always has such a knack for casting “It” girls, obviously felt that he simply couldn’t shoot a film in the Capital of Fashion without its glamorous First Lady. The movie is also a homage to the city.

Festival director Thierry Frémaux declared:

“Midnight in Paris is a wonderful love letter to Paris. It’s a film in which Woody Allen takes a deeper look at the issues raised in his last films: our relationship with history, art, pleasure and life. His 41st feature reveals once again his inspiration.”

What’s more, the director has always had a bigger fan base in Europe than in America. In recent years, he has shot movies based in European cities. Match Point was set in London and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Madrid. Both premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, as did his last year’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

It should be an interesting festival this year, considering Robert De Niro is president of the jury. The 2011 Cannes Film Festival will run from May 11^th to May 22^nd.
