Craven Says Scream 5 And 6 Could Happen If Bob Weinstein Is Up For It
published: 2011-03-30 19:15:47 Author: Perri NemiroffReady to rehash some old news? In true Hollywood spirit, it’s time to talk sequels before the first film even comes out, or, in this case, the fourth. Right when word of Scream 4 got out, so did news of Scream 5 and 6. Ever since, there hasn’t been much talk about turning this reboot into a trilogy. However, just the other day, Shock Till You Drop posted a report that stated they’ve “learned Dimension Films still has a Scream 5 writing assignment on the table for a potential writer.”
Earlier today I had the pleasure of talking to Wes Craven himself about bringing back Ghostface. You’ll have to wait a bit to read the full conversation, but here’s something that might hold you over; there was no ending our chat without bringing up the potential of additional films and Craven was kind enough to put in his two cents. Here’s what the director had to say:
No, there is no Scream 5 script. Kevin [Williamson], when I first talked to him about this project before there was a script, he had an idea for a trilogy, so we’ll have to see what comes out of that. I’m sure Bob Weinstein is open to it if the script or ideas are to his pleasure. He has very high standards. I don’t think he’s in any rush to do it particularly, but on the other hand, I think he’s open to the idea of a trilogy, so at the point when there is an idea that he’s really excited about I’m sure he will begin launching that next film. What should we take from this? It’s tough to be sure, but it seems as though Weinstein is the man in charge here. Should Scream 4 do well and should someone produce an idea for subsequent films that are up to his standards, there’s really no reason to think Craven wouldn’t have another trilogy on his hands. The question is, what are these “high standards” Craven speaks of? There’s just about no doubt Scream 4 will post some pretty high numbers at the box office, but the concern lies in how the film will fare with critics and fans. I’ve certainly got faith in Craven.
