Breck Eisner in Talks to Direct THE LAST WITCH HUNTER; Timur Bekmambetov Will Produce
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 16th, 2011
Breck Eisner (The Crazies) is in early talks to direct The Last Witch Hunter for Summit Entertainment. (Not to be confused with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.) The Last Witch Hunter centers on one of the last remaining witch hunters charged with the population control of witches and warlocks. The magical breed is about to proliferate in “a major way” unless our protagonist can stop them.

According to Deadline, Cory Goodman (Priest) wrote the screenplay; Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) will produce. Eisner was mentioned in connection with the Ouija movie before McG landed the gig, and dropped out of the remake of The Brood late last year. However, Eisner is still attached to remakes of Flash Gordon and Escape from New York, so The Last Witch Hunter has some competition on the way to becoming the director’s next film.

Eva Green Suggests Her DARK SHADOWS Character Will Diverge from the Source Material
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 16th, 2011
Eva Green recently signed on to star opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s adaptation of Dark Shadows. Green will play Angelique who, a “powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins (Depp)” in the 1960s gothic soap opera. However, Green’s understanding is that her Angelique won’t be too familiar to fans of the show:

“I haven’t seen the TV series, but from what I’ve seen on the Internet, it’s very different. My character is very different. She’s American, blonde, cool, in the ’70s. She is this sexy witch, very powerful in town, she’s very cool. She has many faces.”

See what else Green had to say about Burton’s approach to the material after the jump.

Robert Pattinson in Talks for "Daredevil" Reboot?
Posted: March 17th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

We just learned that 20th Century Fox is in negotiations with David Slade (30 Days of Night) to direct the studios upcoming "Daredevil" reboot, which will not be ignoring the events in Ben Affleck's 2003 film.

The new movie will not be Slade's next helming gig; he's currently setting up "The Last Voyage of Demeter." So while there's still time to put the project together, Moviehole is reporting that Slade has already had conversation with his "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" star Robert Pattinson to play the lead role.

As far as the story, the site says: "It's a bit 'Batman Begins.' The bad guy will learn who Daredevil really is and tries to destroy him – but not via the usual methods."

Jennifer Lawrence Is Katniss Everdeen In The Hunger Games
published: 2011-03-16 23:57:30 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Back on Friday things looked pretty good for Jennifer Lawrence. Dual reports came out saying that the Winter's Bone actress was the frontrunner for the lead role of Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, a movie based on a massively popular young adult novel series that is expected to replace Twilight once that franchise has run its course. But when those reports came out no offers had yet been made and no papers signed. That apparently has changed.

The Wrap is reporting from an unnamed source that Jennifer Lawrence has nabbed the starring role in the Gary Ross film. The film is set in a world where teenagers from twelve separate districts are forced to fight each other to the death in an arena. Despite her small stature, however, she has great hunting and archery skills that not only help her to compete, but to become a true contender. Lawrence beat out actresses including Hailee Steinfeld and Abagail Breslin for the role. While the details of the contract were not revealed, it's expected that she signed a multi-picture deal.

I said this when I reported the first story on Friday, but I will repeat myself: this is probably a mistake. In addition to looking absolutely nothing like the character - something that can obviously be changed - this movie is being planned as a part of a franchise and she is a 20 year old playing a sixteen year old. That may make no difference now, but by the time the trilogy is completed she probably won't be able to pass for a teenager anymore. What do we think, commenters? Is this good news or bad news? http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Jennifer-Lawrence-Is-Katniss-Everdeen-In-The-Hunger-Games-23709.html

Diane Lane Talks Superman
Source: USA Weekend March 16, 2011

Following the announcement just two weeks ago that she is set to play Superman's adoptive mother, Martha Kent, in the upcoming Zack Snyder reboot, Diane Lane has spoken with USA Weekend about the role.

“I’ve always wanted to raise a good man,” she jokes about working alongside Henry Cavill, who will be playing both Clark Kent and Superman, “I thought that was the biggest challenge a woman could have, and so I get the embarrassment of riches.”

Lane also explains that, to help get excited for the project, she's been rewatching films from Snyder's oeuvre, particularly 2009's Watchmen. Describing the director as "audicious" and "brilliant," Lane promises that Superman is, "going to be a wild ride."

"I’m very flattered to play Martha Kent and live up to his vision," she says, "It’s pretty cool.”

Lane marks the youngest actress to ever take on the role of Martha. On the big screen, Eva Marie Saint most recently played the part in Superman Returns, taking over the role from Phyllis Thaxter who appeared in all four original cinematic Superman films. A younger take on the character was also offered in the "Smallville" television series, as portrayed by Annette O'Toole (who was just a few years older than Lane is now when the series began).

Though the role of Martha's husband, Jonathan, has not been cast, rumors persist that Kevin Costner is likely for the part.

Superman heads into production soon, eyeing a December 2012 release.

***Eva Green Joins DARK SHADOWS ***Jason Segel Is DreamWorks’ UNDERCOVER COP ***Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy Take On An Untitled Action/Adventure Project at 20th Century Fox

Eva Green Joins DARK SHADOWS

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

Eva Green will play the female lead in the Tim Burton-directed adaptation of Dark Shadows.  Per Deadline, the actress is in negotiations to make a turn as Angelique who, in the 60s television series, was a “powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins.”  Given that the adaptation is being handled by Burton, Johnny Depp will naturally be playing the aforementioned Collins opposite of Green.
In addition to Green and Depp, we reported yesterday that Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote are also in talks to make turns in Dark Shadows.  Burton will begin shooting the project, first written by John August and most recently updated by Seth Grahme-Smith, this April.

Jason Segel Is DreamWorks’ UNDERCOVER COP

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

Like it or not (personally, I like it) Jason Segel has become a leading man.  Having built his stock with solid efforts in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I Love You, Man, Segel is now taking on the lead role in DreamWorks’ “80s-era comedy” Undercover Cop.  According to Risky Business, Undercover Cop is inspired by the true story of a “former cop that infiltrated the New Jersey criminal underworld.”
Jason Micallef will pen the script.  The scribe’s lone existing writing credit comes in the form of the comedy Butter starring Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde.  DreamWorks is developing the currently director-less project alongside Steven Zaillian at Film Rites.  As for Segel, in addition to Undercover Cop, the actor has been keeping busy with Disney’s The Muppets and can also be seen on June 24th alongside Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz in the comedy Bad Teacher.

Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy Take On An Untitled Action/Adventure Project at 20th Century Fox

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

In spite of the fact that it won’t debut for another nine months, 20th Century Fox is apparently quite pleased with the Real Steel actor/director pairing of Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy (Date Night). Today, the studio announced that the two will reunite on an as-of-yet untitled action/adventure project. While low on details (the project was picked up as a pitch), Deadline reports that the film will be penned by former Lost writer/show runner Carlton Cuse and that Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment moniker will also produce.
Jackman and Levy’s upcoming film, Real Steel, is currently set to open later this year on October 7th. In addition to Jackman, the film also stars Hope Davis, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, and Anthony Mackie. Real Steel is set in a near-future in which robots that literally weigh one ton (and yet still resemble humans) duke it out. New Image of Ian McShane as Blackbeard in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 21st, 2011

Arrrggghhh!!! May is fast approaching and that means that the latest installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is merely months away from release (and millions upon millions upon millions of dollars, of course).  Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides hits theaters on May 20th in 3D, and a new image from the flick has hit the net. This one gives us a good look at new villain Blackbeard, played by Ian McShane in a pitch-perfect casting move. As you can see, the filmmakers really want you to know that this is 3D, so Blackbeard conveniently points his sword toward the camera.
The fourth film in the franchise is helmed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and stars McShane, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Keith Richards.  In this adventure, Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow sets out to find the Fountain of Youth, but obviously runs into a bit of trouble along the way. Hit the jump to check out the full image.

Greg Kinnear and Jane Curtin are the latest additions to the adaptation of Allison Pearson’s novel I Don’t Know How She Does It.  The current cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Bronsnan and Kelsey Grammar, as well as recent additions Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Olivia Munn (The Daily Show), and Seth Meyers (SNL). Douglas McGrath (Infamous) directs from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada).
I Don’t Know How She Does It tells the story of a working mom (Parker) trying to balance the many competing elements of her life. Variety reports that Kinnear will play Parker’s husband, while Curtin will take on the role of Kinnear’s mother. The Weinstein Company will produce.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Pearson’s novel.
Here’s the synopsis of I Don’t Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson:
Meet Kate Reddy, hedge-fund manager and mother of two. She can juggle nine different currencies in five different time zones and get herself and two children washed and dressed and out of the house in half an hour. In Kate’s life, Everything Goes Perfectly as long as Everything Goes Perfectly. She lies to her own mother about how much time she spends with her kids; practices pelvic floor squeezes in the boardroom; applies tips from Toddler Taming to soothe her irascible boss; uses her cell phone in the office bathroom to procure a hamster for her daughter’s birthday (“Any working mother who says she doesn’t bribe her kids can add Liar to her résumé”); and cries into the laundry hamper when she misses her children’s bedtime. by Jason Barr    Posted: January 21st, 2011

Teen-actor-turned-hip-hop-star Drake may soon be returning to his former profession.  The former Degrassi: The Next Generation star is currently in talks to join writer/director Nicholas Jarecki’s (The Informers) financial thriller Arbitrage.  If the deal goes through, Drake (whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham) would join a solid cast that already features Eva Green and Susan Sarandon.
According to TheWrap, Arbitrage will center on a hedge fund magnate who is “desperate to complete the sale of his shady trading empire before his fraud is revealed.”  As the story goes, an unexpected turn of events causes him to look for help from an unlikely source.  The film is currently scheduled to begin shooting this March in New York.  As for Drake, he has a previous film credit due to a minor role in 2007’s Charlie Bartlett.

Casting Call: Josh Lucas to Play Charles Lindbergh in J. EDGAR; Farmiga and Wasikowska Join A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 18th, 2011

We have a couple of quick casting stories for you this afternoon.  First up, Josh Lucas has joined the cast of Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.  According to Deadline, Lucas will play famous pilot/Nazi-symathizer/baby-misplacer Charles Lindbergh.  The biopic will star Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover.  The cast also includes Armie Hammer (The Social Network), Damon Herriman (Justified), Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), and Dame Judi Dench.  Eastwood is also reportedly considering Amy Adams and Naomi Watts for the role of Hoover’s secretary now that Charlize Theron has passed on the flick.  As we previously reported, Lucas is also rumored to be in the running to play Abraham Lincoln in Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Robert Connolley’s adaptation of Arthur Miller’s 1955 play A View from the Bridge.
Vera Farmiga and Mia Wasikowska have joined the cast of A View from the Bridge.  The drama will also star Anthony LaPaglia, Sam Neill, and Sebastian Stan.  Per Variety,
LaPaglia will play the role of Eddie in the 1950s Brooklyn-set pic, while Farmiga plays his wife, Beatrice, and Wasikowska plays their young niece Catherine, whom they have raised since childhood. When the arrival of Beatrice’s cousins from Italy enchants young Catherine, Eddie is consumed by jealousy and obsession that ultimately ends in tragedy.
Moral of the story: don’t invite your Italian cousins to hang out, at least I assume that’s what Miller was going for when he wrote the play.  Filming is expected to begin in June in Melbourne and New York.

Everyone wants to get another good look at Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot.  And when good looks aren’t available, sometimes you have to settle for blurry, out-of-context looks that make no sense.  Such is the case with a blurry photo of the web-slinging wall-crawler who is neither web-slinging or wall-crawling but ground-running.  Perhaps this new “gritty, contemporary” take on Spider-Man has Spidey foregoing his web-slinging-ways for conventional, foot-based transportation.  Or perhaps we have no context for this image whatsoever, but boy is it fun to speculate.
Hit the jump to check out the image along with a couple more set photos that are actually in focus and informative.  The untitled Spider-Man reboot stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans.  It’s set to open in 3D on July 3, 2012.

20th Century Fox has released a new international trailer for Water for Elephants.  Based on the novel by Sara Gruen, the film tells the story of a man who joins a traveling circus during the Great Depression after his parents die in a car accident. While at the circus, he finds himself falling in love with one of the main stars of the show, who is married to the circus’ cruel and violent animal trainer.  The film stars Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, Hal Holbrook, and the always great and underused Paul Schneider; Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) directs.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer and read a full plot synopsis.

About a month ago we posted the first images from Perfect Sense, a Sundance 2011 entry led by Ewan McGregor and Eva Green with the cryptic logline, “A poetic and magnetic love story about two people who start to fall in love just as the world begins to fall apart.”  I think, for now, it’s best we leave it there.
Thankfully, this newly released trailer agrees with me.  It captures the pure melodrama indicated by the logline without revealing too much about the story.  So you can watch this footage and simply admire how beautifully the David Mackenzie-directed film is lit without spoiling things.  However, if you would like to know more about the plot, we’ve included new story details alongside the trailer after the jump.
I am wholly seduced.
MTV included the following synopsis with their premiere of the trailer (last chance to turn away):
Green plays Susan, an epidemiologist recently out of a relationship gone sour; McGregor is Michael, the charismatic chef who sweeps Susan off her feet and shows her that not all guys are a-holes. Sounds swell, right? And it would be… except for one tiny problem: At the same time Susan and Michael are falling for each other, a global pandemic is threatening to change the face of humanity forever.
And Susan, in her job as an epidemiologist, is right at the center of it all. When a truck driver in Glasgow experiences a sudden inexplicable crying fit and subsequently loses his sense of smell, Susan learns that more than 100 other people across Europe have been stricken in similar fashion. As more and more people around the globe begin to suffer these strange symptoms that first attack their emotions and then their symptoms, Susan and Michael are forced to try and weather the storm and find out how the human race might cope with such a pandemic.
The trailer seems that much greater after reading this.  We see hints, but I didn’t pick up on anything more than severe emotional trauma in my first viewing.  So much of the appeal of Sundance lies in the surprise — walking in knowing nothing about a film, walking out having seen something special.  (Or so I’ve heard.  I’ve never been.  Someday.)
Perfect Sense was on my radar, but now I’ve totally checked in.  Just to add to the wonder of it all, McGregor is reunited with his Trainspotting co-star Ewen Bremner.  Stephen Dillane, Denis Lawson, and Connie Nielsen also star.  May Perfect Sense quickly land an eager buyer with deep pockets at the festival.

One of the many things I love about Seth Rogen is how honest he is.  Unlike some celebrities that are careful to say all the right things and never engage in any controversy, if you ask Rogen a question, he’ll tell you exactly how he feels.  So when I sat down with Rogen and Diaz, one of the many things I wanted to know was their thoughts on the buzz for their film.  Rogen gave me a great answer.  On top of that, we talked about the rehearsal process, their chemistry, what Michel Gondry brought to the film, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch the interview:
Finally, I thought The Green Hornet was great, so make sure to see it this weekend.  You can watch some clips here.

RUMOR: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Casting Info, Shooting Dates, and Design Details for the New Batmobile and Batcave [UPDATED]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 11th, 2011

Today, we’ve been sent three very interesting rumors concerning Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  Before we go into what we were sent, it’s important to know that Nolan’s intense desire for secrecy regarding his films makes it impossible to get confirmation or denial on any rumor.  There will be no official word on The Dark Knight Rises until Nolan says so.  However, we believe there is some veracity to the information we’ve been sent and thought we would pass it along to you.
First up, a source tells us that Eva Green and Naomi Watts have been cast in the film.  The source doesn’t know which roles they’re playing, but believes they’ve been cast as Talia al Ghul and Vicki Vale, respectively.  However, we have no confirmation these characters are even in the movie.  We previously reported that the film would have two new female leads: a love interest and a villain.  Vicky Vale, a reporter who was played by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton’s Batman, would presumably be the love interest, while Talia al Ghul is the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins) and in the comics has been an anti-hero/love-interest for Batman.  Hit the jump for more rumors regarding The Dark Knight Rises, which is set to be released on July 20, 2012. [Update: Heat Vision is reporting that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, and possibly Gemma Arterton are testing for the female roles, so it's possible that Green and Watts haven't been cast.  However, we have independently confirmed that Talia al Ghul is in the movie.]
Before moving on to the other rumors, it’s worth noting that Watts’ name was mentioned before as a possible contender to play one of the female leads.  Green’s name is new to the mix, but she’s age-appropriate in relation to Christian Bale, she’s sexy as hell, and would nail the femme fatale angle of Talia al Ghul or even Catwoman if that’s the film’s female villain.  Again, we cannot confirm or deny this casting, but we wanted to pass it along.
The same source also tells us that principal photography is set to begin on May 6th with post-production set to begin on November 28th.  This timeline coincides with an earlier report from Michael Caine who said that filming was supposed to run from May through November.  Finally, this source tells us that the leaked script for the film that recently hit the net is fake and that the cast will get the real script sometime next week.
A different source tells us some new details regarding the design of the new Batmobile and Batcave.  It’s not surprising that both will be in the new movie since the old Batmobile was destroyed in The Dark Knight and Bruce and Alfred have been working on the Batcave since the end of Batman Begins.  Our source “Raphael” tells us that the new Batmobile (aka The Tumbler) has been redesigned as a sleeker version, but still powerful and with all the gadgets.  As for the Batcave, it will be the same cave we saw in Batman Begins and they’re attempting to keep the classic stuff like the circular bay for the Batmobile, but keep the look modern.  They’re also setting up the Batcomputer and storage for the Batsuits.  And if there’s a new Batmobile and a new Batcave, is it possible we’ll be getting a new Batsuit in The Dark Knight Rises? (Hint, hint.)
Again, this is all rumor because we can’t get it confirmed.  However, we trust these sources enough that we’re willing to post the information they’ve sent us.  More as we hear it.

Filming on Freddie Mercury Biopic Slated for Later This Year; Film Adapation of WE WILL ROCK YOU also in Development

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 11th, 2011

It’s always a great time to be a Queen fan, but especially now. Last September, we reported that Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a film about the rock musician’s life.  Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor have told Queen Online that screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) has delivered a first draft of the script, and that the team behind the flick is planning to shoot later this year with an eye towards a fall 2012 release.  May and Taylor also say that they’re developing the Queen jukebox musical We Will Rock You into a movie.
Hit the jump to read their full statement.
Here’s what May and Taylor told Queen Online:
“Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie ! The whole team now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late Autumn of 2012. We are also laying the foundations for WWRY THE MOVIE, and again, we already have a great script for it from Ben.”
“Roger and I will be working together on new WWRY theatre projects, too, beginning with the imminent launch of the show in Norway next month. And we have a couple of interesting new buns in the studio oven, about which more soon. I will be doing some selected UK dates bringing ‘Anthems’ to life with Kerry Ellis in concert halls, including the Albert Hall in May. But Roger and I keep an ever-open door for ideas for Queen, the band, which, somehow, refuses to lie down! “
Cheers and a Happy New Year!

The Sundance Film Festival has added Silent House to its 2011 lineup.  Silent House is a remake of a Uruguayan horror film, which centers on a father and daughter who spend the night in an old house when they hear a sound that seems to be coming from upstairs.  Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Julia Taylor Ross, Haley Murphy, and Adam Barnett star.
Chris Kentis and Laura Lau (Open Water) reportedly filmed Silent Hill in a single continuous shot to capture the growing panic.  I’m a sucker for technique, but that’s enough to hook me.  Hit the jump for the official press release.

Diane Kruger Replacing Eva Green in FAREWELL, MY QUEEN

by Laura Kelley    Posted: December 28th, 2010

Diane Kruger is set to take Eva Green’s place as Marie Antoinette in Benoit Jacquot’s Farewell, My Queen.  The film, set near the end of the French Revolution, is an adaptation of a novel by Chantal Thomas. Kruger joins stars Lea Seydoux as a reader to Antoinette and Gerard Depardieu in an unknown role.  Eva Green is also no longer starring in Michael Mann’s Capa, having been replaced by Gemma Arterton.  Director Benoit Jacquot is probably best known for his films The School of Flesh and The UntouchableFarewell, My Queen is set to begin filming sometime next spring.  via ThePlaylist.

Judi Dench Joins Clint Eastwood’s J. EDGAR; Charlize Theron “Leaning Toward” Joining Film

by Jason Barr    Posted: December 28th, 2010

Dame Judi Dench has joined Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic, J. Edgar.  The Oscar-winner (Shakespeare in Love) will play alongside a confirmed cast that currently includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer (The Social Network), and Damon Herriman (FX’s Justified).  As of yet, there is no word on the nature of Dench’s role.  In 2011, she can be seen with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in Jane Eyre and alongside Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, and Kenneth Branagh in My Week with Marilyn.
In related news, The Playlist is also reporting that Charlize Theron is “leaning toward” joining J. Edgar.  If you’ve been following the development of the project, you know that Theron has been offered the role of Helen Gandy (Hoover’s personal secretary).  However, Theron is currently tasked with choosing between J. Edgar and Universal’s tentpole project Snow White and the Huntsman (both films are scheduled to shoot in February 2011). http://collider.com/judi-dench-j-edgar-charlize-theron/66950/

Trailer for THE OTHER WOMAN Starring Natalie Portman

by Max Lichtig    Posted: December 28th, 2010the-other-woman-movie-slice

Just the other day, we brought you the first poster for the Natalie Portman film The Other Woman. Today, the trailer for the film has been released online and shows the gifted Black Swan thespian at it again in another dramatic and poignant role. The film also stars Scott Cohen and Lisa Kudrow. Based on the Ayelet Waldman novel Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, the film tells the story of Emilia (Portman), “a Harvard law school graduate and a newlywed, having just married Jack (Scott Cohen), a high-powered New York lawyer, who was her boss – and married – when she began working at his law firm.” Directed by Don Roos, whose previous credits include helming The Opposite of Sex and writing the screenplay for Marley and Me, the drama is set to be released on Video On Demand by IFC on January 1st, 2011, but will see a theatrical release on February 4th.
Check out a synopsis of the novel, as well as the trailer after the jump:
After Black Swan, Natalie Portman has become one of my favorite female actors working in the industry right now. Her performance was so natural and utterly flawless that I have complete confidence she can take on any role. Maybe it’s the fact that she graduated from Harvard (much like her character in The Other Woman) or just an innate brilliance she brings to the screen. Whatever the case, it’s clear she can tackle anything, from psychopathic human/swan hybrids to comedic roles as well (she hosted SNL and was a hilarious guest on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis from Funny or Die.) Although I am shaken up a bit by the fact that the role of Emilia was originally being eyed by Jennifer Lopez, it looks like this movie has a lot of promise.

Here’s the synopsis of the novel Love and Other Impossible Pursuits via Amazon:
How a five-year-old manages to make the adults in his life hew to the love he holds for them is the sweet treat in this honest, brutal, bitterly funny slice of life. When Emelia’s day-old daughter, Isabel, succumbs to SIDS, her own life stalls. She can’t work; she can’t sleep; Central Park, once her personal secret garden, now is a minefield of happy mother-child dyads. Since Isabel’s death, husband Jack’s only solace for the guilt of breaking up his sexless marriage with Carolyn for Emelia’s (now-absent) passion and love is joint custody of William, now five. What Emelia cannot bear most are Wednesdays, when she must cross the park to collect William at the 92nd Street Y preschool and take another shot at stepmotherhood. Carolyn, William’s furious mother and a renowned Upper East Side OB/GYN, lives to nab Emelia for mistakes in handling him. Carolyn’s indicting phone calls raise the already sky-high tension in Jack and Emelia’s home, but they don’t compare with Carolyn’s announcement that, at age 42, she is pregnant. The news pushes Emelia to confess to Jack two things she shouldn’t. William is charmingly realized, and Waldman (Daughter’s Keeper) has upper bourgeois New York down cold. The result is a terrific adult story.
