Aaron Sorkin and John Krasinski Developing HBO Miniseries LIFE AT THE MARMONT

He’s already got a new drama series at HBO with More as This Story Develops on the way, but Aaron Sorkin is working on yet another project at the cable network now. THR reports The Social Network scribe and The Office star John Krasinski are developing a new miniseries at HBO called Life at the Marmont, based on the book of the same name by the infamous hotel owners Raymond R. Sarlot and Fred Basten. The landmark Chateau Marmont at the center of Hollywood has long been a popular location always drawing in the biggest names in film, television, music and literature. Apparently the series, which Krasinski which also have a role in, will have a series of interconnected stories of several different hotel guests over several generations. I’m always interested in projects Krasinski takes on outside of The Office, and with Sorkin involved, this is yet another promising piece of entertainment from HBO.

James McAvoy to Replace Michael Fassbender in Danny Boyle’s TRANCE

It looks like Professor X is taking over a job originally set for Magneto. Variety reports that James McAvoy is in early discussions to join Danny Boyle’s Trance in a role for which Michael Fassbender was previously in talks. The film is a remake of Joe Ahearne’s 2003 TV movie of the same name and centers on an art heist gone wrong. The mastermind of the heist suffers a blow to the head during the operation, and subsequently suffers from amnesia. When his team questions the validity of his claims, and given that he’s the only one who knows where the painting is hidden, a female hypnotist is hired to get into his brain.

Boyle plans to start production in September, and after filming wraps he will immediately move on to directing the opening ceremony for London’s 2012 Summer Olympics. After the Olympics conclude in August, he’ll return to Trance to begin post-production, with a March 2013 release date being eyed. So all-in-all, Boyle has a very busy year coming up. While Fassbender’s a fantastic actor and it would’ve been nice to see him team up with Boyle, McAvoy is no slouch himself, so the casting change doesn’t seem too drastic.

Julia Ormond in Talks to Play Superman’s Mom in MAN OF STEEL

Director Zack Snyder continues to fill out the cast for Man of Steel, and it looks like he’s found Superman’s mom. Deadline reports that Julia Ormond is in talks to star as Superman’s Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van, opposite Russell Crowe who was recently cast as father Jor-El. Their counterparts, Clark Kent’s adoptive Earth parents, will be played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.

Henry Cavill is set to play the titular Man of Steel, with Amy Adams poised to play Lois Lane and, in an inspired bit of casting, Michael Shannon will be taking on the role of General Zod. Antje Traue will play villain/Zod’s partner Faora. Details on David Goyer’s script are mum, but production is set to get underway next month in Vancouver. Produced by Christopher Nolan, Man of Steel is currently eying a holiday 2012 release.

David O. Russell Testing Actresses for THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK Including Rachel McAdams and Olivia Wilde

Director David O. Russell is readying his follow-up to last year’s The Fighter, and he’s begun searching for his lead actress. Russell will next tackle an adaptation of The Silver Linings Playbook, which already has Mark Wahlberg set to star as a former high school history teacher who has just been released from a mental institution and plans on reconciling with his estranged wife.

Now Risky Business reports that Russell will be testing a number of actresses throughout the weekend to find his leading lady. Those meeting with Russell include: Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough and Olivia Wilde. Jennifer Lawrence is also mentioned, but her status is unclear. Filming is set to start in August. Angelina Jolie had recently been mentioned as a possibility as well, but she’s not included in this report. Jason Segel is such a charming, funny and genuinely nice guy that it’s easy to like him, as a person and as an actor. The fact that he has the talent to back all that up makes it impossible not to be a fan. In the new raunchy comedy Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz as the inappropriately foul-mouthed and ruthless middle school teacher Elizabeth Halsey, Segel plays happy-go-lucky gym teacher Russell Gettis. Unfazed by rejection, he keeps flirting with and pursuing Elizabeth, even though she has told him that it’s never going to happen because he’s just not rich enough for her.

At the film’s press day, Jason Segel spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview, in which he talked about working non-stop while juggling films with his television series How I Met Your Mother, his relationship with Rush since shooting I Love You, Man, how much fun he had working opposite Cameron Diaz for Bad Teacher, and the tremendous respect he has for Justin Timberlake. Natalie Portman Welcomes A Baby Boy!

Natalie Portman is the proud mother of a baby boy, People reports.

The Oscar winner, who turned 30 on Thursday (June 9), recently gave birth to her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied.

The couple met while working on Black Swan and announced in December they were expecting a baby and getting married.

“I’ll be out of the public eye after [the baby's born],” Natalie previously told People, adding that she’d figure out future career opportunities “as it comes.”

The 28-year-old English actress and Jason, 31, filmed a scene taking place in winter and smooched on a fake snow bank that had to be fabricated for the film.

Five Year Engagement also stars Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, and Rhys Ifans. The film is set to be released next year.

Julianne Hough: Toned Tummy on 'Rock of Ages' Set!

Julianne Hough shows off her toned tummy in a cropped bustier top as she walks to the set of her new movie, Rock of Ages, on Wednesday (June 8) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The 22-year-old actress was also spotted going for a run on the beach later in the week.

Julianne recently reacted to Reese Witherspoon’s MTV Movie Awards honor as the Generations Award winner.

Here’s what the 36-year-old Desperate Housewives actress had to share:
On learning about makeup: “I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup when I was young. I would melt crayons and try to put them on my lips, and I would use watercolors for eye shadow.”
On her beauty must-have: “Mascara is very important. If I were on a desert island, I would have to have mascara and lip balm. I’m naturally tan, but I like to use a bronzing powder or something to make my skin look shimmery.”
Her biggest tip for petite figures: “High heels. I love all designer shoes. There’s this pair in my closet by Versace, and they must be 8 inches - crazy tall! I once tried to count how many I had. All I know is that I just donated 60 pairs.”
On her future in television: “I hope Desperate Housewives never ends. I love this job. It’s so fulfilling. But I also love producing and being behind the camera. What’s in front of the camera rarely excites me as much as all of the magic of these people working behind the scenes.”

Jennifer Aniston Covers 'Marie Claire' July 2011

Jennifer Aniston wears an Ann Demeulemeester jacket and Gucci briefs as she graces the cover of Marie Claire magazine’s July 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (June 31).

Here’s what the 42-year-old Horrible Bosses star had to share with the mag:

On what she spent her first paycheck on: “I spent my first paycheck on a vintage Mercedes. I was struggling a little in New York, working as a waitress at Jackson Hole but not really getting any consistent acting work. Then I moved out here to Los Angeles, and I started getting pilots and working pretty regularly. I still didn’t make any decent money until I got on Friends.”

On what she’d be doing if she weren’t an actor: “Maybe an interior designer. I love seeing a house and thinking about how it should be redone or restored. I spent a lot of time doing my current house, and it’s beautiful…It’s like a beautiful work of art, and I’m very proud of it.”

Olivia Munn to Star in Broken Lizard’s THE BABY MAKER

Actress and Daily Show correspondent Olivia Munn has landed the female lead in Broken Lizard’s new indie comedy The Baby Maker. Paul Schneider (Lars and the Real Girl) is set to star, with Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar poised to direct. The film centers on a young married couple having trouble conceiving a child. The husband decides to rob a Pasedena sperm bank alongside his friends, in order to retrieve the specimen he donated as a young man. Variety reports that Munn will play the leading female role in the flick, which is presumably Schnieder’s wife.
All of the Broken Lizard members are expected to co-star, with Kevin Heffernan playing the playing Schnieder’s crazy best friend, and Chandrasekhar taking on the role of a master Estonian theif. While I found Beerfest be an underrated comedic gem, Broken Lizard’s last outing, The Slammin’ Salmon, left much to be desired. Hopefully they’re back on track with this flick. Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow (Ice Age: The Meltdown) wrote the screenplay, with production set to begin this summer in Los Angeles. Munn’s been a bit of a hot property as of late. In addition to being very funny, she’s also extremely good-looking. Al Pacino Circling Dan Fogelman’s IMAGINE

Apparently intrigued by the prospect of playing an aging rock star, Al Pacino is currently in talks to star in Dan Fogelman’s directorial debut Imagine. According to 24 Frames, the potential turn would see Pacino’s character attempt to turn over a new leaf shortly after receiving a letter that his idol John Lennon had sent him forty years prior. Landing the legendary Pacino would be par for the course for the budding Fogelman who has experienced a ton of recent success having penned hits such as Cars and Tangled. Additionally, the scribe-turned-director also wrote Crazy, Stupid, Love. starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone, as well as My Mother’s Curse starring Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand.

As for Pacino, the iconic actor has been absent from the silver screen since 2008′s Righteous Kill. In addition to possibly joining Imagine, he has also signed on to play crime boss Neil Dellacroce in Gotti: Three Generations and can be seen alongside Ray Liotta, Juliette Binoche, and Channing Tatum in the crime/thriller The Son of No One which is still searching for a release date. Finally, while I’m all for Pacino taking on Imagine I can’t help but think of what might have been. As late as last month, Carell was still attached to the project to play the estranged son of Pacino’s rock star character. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts have forced Carell off of the project (he remains a producer, however) essentially robbing moviegoers of the opportunity to see what type of screen dynamics the pair may have had. http://collider.com/al-pacino-imagine/95034/

Sam Worthington Attached to Warner Bros.’ Space War Project

Fans of watching Sam Worthington (Avatar) participate in science-fiction projects with ample action and war overtones will be glad to hear that the actor is attached to star in a “space war” project for Warner Bros. Deadline reports that the studio has acquired preemptive rights to the project pitch with scribe Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband) set to pen the script. The film will reunite Worthington with Clash of the Titans producer Basil Iwanyk who will produce through his Thunder Road label. This is more good news for Guzikowski who recently had director Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) take over the reins of his Black List-alum script Prisoners. As for Worthington, moviegoers will have plenty of opportunities to catch the actor in upcoming projects such as the Clash sequel Wrath of the Titans, thrillers Man on a Ledge and The Fields, and F. Sony Moves Forward With Sequel to SALT

Apparently the world needs more Angelina Jolie action movies. Sony has officially started moving forward with a sequel to last year’s Jolie-starred action flick Salt. Deadline now reports that Sony has set the first film’s screenwriter, Kurt Wimmer, to start working on a script. Jolie is keen to reprise her role from the first flick, though director Phillip Noyce turned down the offer to return.
A follow-up has been rumored since last August, after Salt took in almost $300 million worldwide. While reviews were mixed to positive, one can’t deny Jolie’s international draw (did anyone from America actually see The Tourist?). No word on how soon the sequel will go into production, but we’ll know more once Wimmer turns in his first draft of the screenplay. http://collider.com/salt-sequel-sony-angelina-jolie/95005/

Columbia Pictures has released the international poster for Bad Teacher featuring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel.


In the comedy, Cameron Diaz plays Elizabeth, a foul-mouthed, ruthless, and inappropriate teacher. She drinks, she gets high, and she can't wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she's dumped by her fiancé, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (Justin Timberlake) - competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). A third TV spot has debuted for Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens, the Western meets science fiction adventure, which hits theaters July 29. Check out the TV spot below!
Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. Jennifer Aniston Is A 'Touchy Feely Boss'

Check out Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, and Charlie Day in these new posters from their upcoming film, Horrible Bosses!

The comedy centers around three guys - Bateman, Day, and Sudeikis - who conspire to murder their awful bosses with some help from an ex con (Jamie Foxx).

“It’s nice to do a comedy that has a bunch of stuff that makes you laugh,” Jason B. told MTV News about the flick. “It’s not just language or nudity. It’s kind of tonal - sometimes you can be meaner to babies.”

International Trailer for FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS

Screen Gems kicked off the marketing campaign for Friends with Benefits with a red band trailer, then followed up with a green band trailer.  This new international trailer (the text is Portuguese, so I’m assuming Brazil) lies somewhere in between on the dirty scale.  In fact, I believe if the studio turned this into the MPAA, it would come back stamped in red.  There’s plenty of new footage, but I think I need to forego any further exposure to before seeing the movie.  Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are affable stars, and I trust writer/director Will Gluck (Easy A) with the colorful subject matter.  But this kind of comedy struggles to charm in such short, concentrated bursts.
I don’t have to last too long: Friends with Benefits opens in the U.S. on July 22.  Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, and Woody Harrelson also star.  Watch the trailer after the break.

First Official Synopses for Seth MacFarlane’s TED and THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT Starring Jason Segel

The first official synopses for two Universal flicks have been released: the live-action/CG-animated Ted and the comedy The Five-Year Engagement. Marking the feature directorial debut of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Ted stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel McHale, Patrick Warburton and Jessica Stroup. The story centers on a grown man (Wahlberg) whose wish that his childhood teddy bear would come to life comes true. MacFarlane voices the very R-rated teddy bear. The film hits theaters July 13th, 2012
Directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), The Five-Year Engagement stars Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Rhys Ifans, Mindy Kaling, Lauren Weedman, David Paymer, Kevin Hart, Jacki Weaver and Dakota Johnson. Co-written by Segel and Stoller, the film follows a young couple’s (Segel and Blunt) extended engagement and the bumps and bruises that they undergo along the way. Judd Apatow is producing. We’ve got a few casting stories for you tonight. First up, Jamie Chung has joined Rob Lowe in the dark political flick Knife Fight, with Julie Bowen, Connie Britton, Jennifer Morrison, Rebecca Mader and Titus Welliver all in talks to join the cast. And yes, that’s three actors from Lost in one movie (Bowen, Mader and Welliver). Lowe plays a political crisis specialist who plays hard and tough in dealing with various October campaign surprises.
Variety reports that Chung will play his assistant, Bowen plays an ambitious TV reporter sleeping with Lowe’s character for scoops, Britton plays an earthy liberal eyeing a run for public office, Welliver plays a private investigator working for Lowe, Mader plays a masseuse/prostitute with a penchant for blackmail and Morrison plays one of her classmates. Bill Guttentag is directing, with production set to start next month with an eye towards an October 2012 release date, just in time for election season. The first teaser poster for Disney’s The Muppets has popped up online, albeit as a blurry and off-center snapshot taken by a fan in Montreal, but that’s better than nothing right? It features the classic characters Gonzo (my personal favorite), Fozzie Bear, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal walking out onto what appears to be a stage aglow with spotlights. It’s awesome to have the Muppet gang back, but this picture creeps me out. THEY’RE WALKING, as in with legs — it’s too much too soon. Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne to Star in Agatha Christe Adaptation CROOKED HOUSE; Neil LaBute Will Direct

Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne have signed on to star in an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel Crooked House. In the murder mystery is set against “the backdrop of three generations of a family that lives together in a large and seemingly crooked house.” Every member of the eccentric family has motive to have killed the multimillionaire patriarch, Aristide Leonide. Neil LaBute (Death at a Funeral) will direct from a script by Julian Fellowes (The Tourist) and Tim Rose Price (The Serpent’s Kiss). The $20 million production is scheduled to shoot this summer in the U.K. The story calls for a large ensemble, so expect more casting notices in the near future. Andrews, Goode, and Byrne — and sure, let’s throw in the lovely Arterton — is a very good start.

The Weinstein Company Acquires THE IRON LADY Starring Meryl Streep

The Weinstein Company may have just acquired their top Oscar contender for next year’s ceremony. Yesterday, it was announced that TWC had grabbed U.S. distribution rights to the Margaret Thatcher drama The Iron Lady. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!), the film stars Meryl Streep as Thatcher, with Jim Broadbent playing her husband Denis. The Iron Lady chronicles Thatcher’s rise to become the UK’s first and only female Prime Minister. The film is set to be released sometime later this year. Yvonne Strahovski Joins Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in MY MOTHER’S CURSE

Paramount has signed Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski to star opposite Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in My Mother’s Curse. The story revolves around “an inventor (Rogen) who invites his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love.” According to THR, Strahovski will play the high school sweetheart that Rogen’s character once proposed to. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct from a script by Dan Fogelman (Tangled), based on his own experience traveling with Mrs. Fogelman.


NBC just renewed Chuck for a fifth and final season. If there is any justice, the careers of Strahovski and Zachary Levi will be sufficiently launched by the end of the series. The Aussie actress will make her Hollywood feature debut opposite Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, and Clive Owen in The Killer Elite.
