Natalie Portman Covers 'InStyle' February 2011
Natalie Portman wears Marc Jacobs as she graces the cover of InStyle magazine’s February 2011 issue, on newsstands Friday (January 14)!
Here’s what the 29-year-old Black Swan and No Strings Attached actress had to share:
On what qualities she looks for in a romantic partner: “I look for all the same things I would in a friend. Obviously, you need the sexual attraction too, so it’s like your best friend who you are also really attracted to.”
On what she’d do if she could go unrecognized for a day: “I would make out in the park! [Laughs.] That’s the thing I would most enjoy doing in New York, and it’s something I’ll never do. I’d also have loud, public conversations with my friends about personal things. Even if no one is paying attention—and most of the time, no one cares—you never know who is at the next table.”
On whether she thinks friends-with-benefits relationships can work: “I certainly have friends who could deal with that and others who could not. It’s something I’ve seen in high-achieving women - they compartmentalize. You’ve got your work, your friends, your exercise, and your sex. [Grins.] You can tick off those boxes.”

Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz Exclusive Video Interview THE GREEN HORNET

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 11th, 2011

With Sony’s The Green Hornet arriving in theaters this weekend, I got to sit down with the cast and filmmakers on the Sony lot a few days ago.  Since I spoke to so many people, I’m breaking up the interviews and posting a new one every day this week.  Yesterday I offered you my video interview with Jay Chou (Kato), and today I’ve got Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz.
One of the many things I love about Seth Rogen is how honest he is.  Unlike some celebrities that are careful to say all the right things and never engage in any controversy, if you ask Rogen a question, he’ll tell you exactly how he feels.  So when I sat down with Rogen and Diaz, one of the many things I wanted to know was their thoughts on the buzz for their film.  Rogen gave me a great answer.  On top of that, we talked about the rehearsal process, their chemistry, what Michel Gondry brought to the film, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch the interview:
Finally, I thought The Green Hornet was great, so make sure to see it this weekend.  You can watch some clips here.

RUMOR: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Casting Info, Shooting Dates, and Design Details for the New Batmobile and Batcave [UPDATED]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 11th, 2011

Today, we’ve been sent three very interesting rumors concerning Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  Before we go into what we were sent, it’s important to know that Nolan’s intense desire for secrecy regarding his films makes it impossible to get confirmation or denial on any rumor.  There will be no official word on The Dark Knight Rises until Nolan says so.  However, we believe there is some veracity to the information we’ve been sent and thought we would pass it along to you.
First up, a source tells us that Eva Green and Naomi Watts have been cast in the film.  The source doesn’t know which roles they’re playing, but believes they’ve been cast as Talia al Ghul and Vicki Vale, respectively.  However, we have no confirmation these characters are even in the movie.  We previously reported that the film would have two new female leads: a love interest and a villain.  Vicky Vale, a reporter who was played by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton’s Batman, would presumably be the love interest, while Talia al Ghul is the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins) and in the comics has been an anti-hero/love-interest for Batman.  Hit the jump for more rumors regarding The Dark Knight Rises, which is set to be released on July 20, 2012. [Update: Heat Vision is reporting that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, and possibly Gemma Arterton are testing for the female roles, so it's possible that Green and Watts haven't been cast.  However, we have independently confirmed that Talia al Ghul is in the movie.]
Before moving on to the other rumors, it’s worth noting that Watts’ name was mentioned before as a possible contender to play one of the female leads.  Green’s name is new to the mix, but she’s age-appropriate in relation to Christian Bale, she’s sexy as hell, and would nail the femme fatale angle of Talia al Ghul or even Catwoman if that’s the film’s female villain.  Again, we cannot confirm or deny this casting, but we wanted to pass it along.
The same source also tells us that principal photography is set to begin on May 6th with post-production set to begin on November 28th.  This timeline coincides with an earlier report from Michael Caine who said that filming was supposed to run from May through November.  Finally, this source tells us that the leaked script for the film that recently hit the net is fake and that the cast will get the real script sometime next week.
A different source tells us some new details regarding the design of the new Batmobile and Batcave.  It’s not surprising that both will be in the new movie since the old Batmobile was destroyed in The Dark Knight and Bruce and Alfred have been working on the Batcave since the end of Batman Begins.  Our source “Raphael” tells us that the new Batmobile (aka The Tumbler) has been redesigned as a sleeker version, but still powerful and with all the gadgets.  As for the Batcave, it will be the same cave we saw in Batman Begins and they’re attempting to keep the classic stuff like the circular bay for the Batmobile, but keep the look modern.  They’re also setting up the Batcomputer and storage for the Batsuits.  And if there’s a new Batmobile and a new Batcave, is it possible we’ll be getting a new Batsuit in The Dark Knight Rises? (Hint, hint.)
Again, this is all rumor because we can’t get it confirmed.  However, we trust these sources enough that we’re willing to post the information they’ve sent us.  More as we hear it.

Filming on Freddie Mercury Biopic Slated for Later This Year; Film Adapation of WE WILL ROCK YOU also in Development

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 11th, 2011

It’s always a great time to be a Queen fan, but especially now. Last September, we reported that Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a film about the rock musician’s life.  Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor have told Queen Online that screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) has delivered a first draft of the script, and that the team behind the flick is planning to shoot later this year with an eye towards a fall 2012 release.  May and Taylor also say that they’re developing the Queen jukebox musical We Will Rock You into a movie.
Hit the jump to read their full statement.
Here’s what May and Taylor told Queen Online:
“Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie ! The whole team now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late Autumn of 2012. We are also laying the foundations for WWRY THE MOVIE, and again, we already have a great script for it from Ben.”
“Roger and I will be working together on new WWRY theatre projects, too, beginning with the imminent launch of the show in Norway next month. And we have a couple of interesting new buns in the studio oven, about which more soon. I will be doing some selected UK dates bringing ‘Anthems’ to life with Kerry Ellis in concert halls, including the Albert Hall in May. But Roger and I keep an ever-open door for ideas for Queen, the band, which, somehow, refuses to lie down! “
Cheers and a Happy New Year!

Michelle Williams graces the cover of Marie Claire’s February 2011 issue in a Valentino dress and a Tom Binns necklace.
The 32-year-old Blue Valentine actress shared with the mag how her pal Reese Witherspoon changed her perspective on life.
On Reese’s advice in a troubled time: “To give credit where credit is due, I was sharing a difficulty I was experiencing with Reese Witherspoon, and she said, ‘Yes, I understand, but think about how much more difficult this would be without the luxury of a reliable, steady income.”
On a changed perspective on life: “When things are difficult for me as a single parent, I always reflect on how much harder it would be if I didn’t have money—if I couldn’t afford a babysitter to go to yoga class or out to dinner with a girlfriend.”
Kate Winslet on Michelle: “From a distance, I feel as if I’ve actually been having a secret love affair with Michelle. She and I are quite intimate in my fantasy friendship, built on admiration and respect. I’m talking about her acting, of course!”

First Cast Image from RED DAWN Remake Starring Chris Hemsworth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 4th, 2011

red-dawn-remake-cast-image-01
An image of the cast from the upcoming remake of Red Dawn has found its way online.  The film was in limbo due to MGM’s ongoing financial troubles, but now that the company has declared bankruptcy and begun restructuring, it’s possible the film will finally be released sometime this year.  This image [via The Daily Blam] looks like it’s either a costume test or for promotional purposes, but I don’t think there will be a scene where the main characters gather to strike a pose and look directly into the camera.
For those who have never seen the original 1984 film, it centers on a group of teenagers that band together after America is invaded by the USSR.  The remake of  Red Dawn stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights), Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right), Josh Peck (The Wackness), Isabel Lucas (Daybreakers), Connor Cruise (Seven Pounds), Edwin Hodge (Take Me Home Tonight), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

7 Movie Clips from THE GREEN HORNET

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 4th, 2011

Sony has released 7 movie clips from Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet which stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Tom Wilkinson. If you’re asking how can Seth Rogen be an action hero, these clips will show you.  As you’ll see, The Green Hornet is a twist on the superhero genre since it’s the sidekick who does most of the fighting.
I caught an early screening of the film and liked it a lot.  While there was some bad buzz online awhile ago, I promise you the film is going to surprise you.  Not only does The Green Hornet feature a number of impressive action scenes, it’s really funny.  Hit the jump for the clips.  Look for video interviews with the cast next week:
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Britt Reid (Seth Rogen), son and heir to Los Angeles’ largest newspaper fortune, is a rich, spoiled playboy who has been happy to maintain a direction-less existence. When his father James Reid (Tom Wilkinson) dies, Britt meets an impressive and resourceful company employee, Kato (Jay Chou). They realize that they have the resources to do something worthwhile with their lives and finally step out of James Reid’s shadow. Kato builds the ultimate weapon, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car with every weapon imaginable and Britt decides that in order to be heroes, they will pose as villains. With the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz), they learn that the chief criminal in the city is named Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz). He has united all the gangs under his power, and he quickly sees that the Green Hornet is a direct threat to the prosperous criminal underworld he controls.”

New MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL Set Photos

by Bill Graham    Posted: January 4th, 2011

mission-impossible-ghost-protocol-movie-image-set-photo-tom-cruise-simon-pegg-slice

The holidays have run their course for most people, which means the brief break that isn’t often afforded production already in progress is over. Director Brad Bird’s first foray into live action is back on track in Vancouver, Canada, where Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and some cast and crew were photographed on set of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. What is clear is that the weather there isn’t quite as accommodating to Bird compared to working inside a studio–he looks pretty cold. Luckily for him, with a December 16, 2011 release date pegged for the fourth iteration of the franchise, they won’t have to shoot in the winter again. Hit the jump for all of the set photos and a recap of what we know so far.
While this might be Bird’s first live-action film, he carries quite a bit of weight in the industry. That’s because his animated films, The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, are among the best animated films of the last decade. So it’s no surprise when Bird assembled quite an impressive cast, including Cruise, Pegg, Paula Patton (Precious), Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, and Josh Holloway (Lost). The film is supposedly set up as a quasi-reboot, with Renner being groomed to keep the franchise rolling in future films.
While there is no firm word on the plot itself, the talented team behind and in front of the lens are enough at this point to keep me interested. Additionally, with Michael Giacchino (Up) set to do the score and Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood) as the director of photography, I know Bird’s first live-action experience is set up to be a success. If any Lost fans need more connections to the show, J.J. Abrams co-wrote the story that the film is based on and is producing. This will be one to watch for when it hits theaters December 16, 2011.

Behind-the-Scenes Images from THE GREEN HORNET

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: January 1st, 2011

We have been tracking development on The Green Hornet for a couple years now, and boy has it been a fun ride.  A bumpy one, too, but star Seth Rogen and his co-writer Evan Goldberg have pushed through the mire every step of the way to deliver their passion project.  Stephen Chow has to drop outSign Michel Gondry!  Nicolas Cage doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore?  Get me Christoph Waltz!  Think we need to escape the holiday shuffle?  Awesome, we’ll be a hit in January!
It’s finally here, and I have every reason to expect an enjoyable final product in theaters on January 14, 2011.  The last leg of the promotional push from Columbia has turned inward — first a featurette in late December, now some neat behind-the-scenes photos.  Check out the images after the jump.
I cherrypicked my favorites, most of which involve Kato or the Black Beauty.  The LA Times has a few more behind-the-scenes photos in the gallery worth a look.

Britt Reid (Seth Rogen), son and heir to Los Angeles’ largest newspaper fortune, is a rich, spoiled playboy who has been happy to maintain a direction-less existence. One of the most anticipated movies of the new year, The Green Hornet is set to kick off 2011 with a blend of adventure and director Michel Gondry’s habitual touch of eccentricity, if the various artworks are anything to go by.
Remember when Collider gave you an exclusive sneak peek of The Green Hornet’s character posters back in November? They have now officially debuted on Korean billboards, while the Spanish and French posters resemble the US ones. Hit the jump to take a look.
For fans, the international and character posters are sure to become a collector’s item. The saturated colors give them a comic feel and their poses are rather telling. While Seth Rogen’s Britt Reid and his sidekick Kato, played by Taiwanese star Jay Chou, portray the classic superhero dynamic, their arch-enemy Benjamin Chudnofsky, portrayed by the ever-eclectic Christoph Waltz, looks over his shoulder, his pointy beard reminding me of Satan’s tail; and Cameron Diaz as Britt’s secretary Lenore Case looks less uptight than Pepper Potts with just the right hint of sexiness.
I noticed the posters gracing the billboards along the corridors of the Parisian subway this morning. The movie will hit French theaters on January 12, two days before its US release (well, director Michel Gondry is French) and will premiere in Paris on January 4. The main French poster, featuring all four main characters, reads: “To break the law so as to better defend it.”
And if you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, here’s a full recap, including set visits, interviews and a featurette.

Clooney joins Bullock in 'Gravity'
George Clooney has joined Sandra Bullock in the cast of Alfonso Cuaron's science fiction drama Gravity, reports Deadline.
The project revolves around a female astronaut (Sandra Bullock) trying to make it to Earth after a disaster in space. Clooney will play her colleague.

Clooney will replace Robert Downey Jr. as the leader of a space station that gets decimated by debris from an exploded asteroid. Clooney and Bullock's characters are the sole survivors of the mission and must find a way to return home.

The initial pairing for the Alfonso Cuaron-directed project was to have been Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr. Then came a protracted series of reversals that saw Jolie leave and come back, while actresses Marion Cotillard, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively and Natalie Portman were involved with the movie to varying degrees, all within the last eight months.

Downey stuck with the project throughout the various casting changes but in mid-November, just as things looked set with Bullock, he bailed.

Gravity will begin production next April or May after Bullock has completed Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close and Clooney finds time away from his next directorial effort The Ides Of March.
