Eva Mendes Joins Derek Cianfrance’s THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES; Greta Gerwig in Talks to Co-Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 14th, 2011

Eva Mendes has joined Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in The Place Beyond the Pines with Greta Gerwig in Talks to co-star.  Derek Cianfrance’s follow-up to Blue Valentine stars Gosling as a biker-turned-bank-robber and Cooper as a cop-turned-politician in the multi-generational crime drama.  Deadline reports that Mendes will play the robber’s love interest and mother of his child while Gerwig would play the politician’s wife.  Filming begins next month.
Mendes recently co-starred in The Other Guys and Last Night.  She was in the running for the remake of Total Recall, but I think missing out on that film to do this one is a positive outcome.  As for Gerwig, she’s set to star opposite Joel Kinnaman in the indie romantic comedy Lola Versus. http://collider.com/place-beyond-the-pines-eva-mendes-greta-gerwig/96349/

First Set Photos from AMERICAN REUNION

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 14th, 2011

Set photos from the upcoming non direct-to-DVD American Pie sequel, American Reunion, have gone online.  They’re not photos from filming, but simply the cast looking directly into the camera while on the set and showing us all what a grand time they’re having.  The photos also show that John Cho is returning, although I’m left to wonder if his role will be as minor as it was in the original movies.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film reunites Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Eugene Levy, and almost everyone else from the original movie.  American Reunion opens April 6, 2012. http://collider.com/american-reunion-set-photo/96309/

Darren Aronofsky Wants Christian Bale as His NOAH

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 14th, 2011

Darren Aronofsky wants Christian Bale to build him an ark that is 300 cubits by 50 cubits by 30 cubits.  Vulture reports that Aronofsky is angling to get the Oscar-winning actor to star in the biblical epic Noah.  As we previously reported, studios are circling the project to co-finance, but the film’s budget is projected at $130 million.  Getting a star of Bale’s caliber could help secure financing.  New Regency is already on board, but other contenders Summit, 20th Century Fox, and Paramount could make a better prediction of the film’s overseas potential if Bale comes on board (I swear, I’m not making these boat metaphors just for the puns).
Bale is currently filming on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  He’s also set to star in the drama The Last Photograph, which is about a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the sole survivor of an attack on Americans.  That project is tipped to shoot after Bale wraps on Batman, but we’ll see how fast Noah comes together if Bale signs on for the super fun task of gathering two of every animal.  Hit the jump for more details on Noah. http://collider.com/chrisitan-bale-noah-darren-aronofsky/96305/

Promo Posters for THE HOBBIT, THE HUNGER GAMES, BATTLESHIP, and More

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted:June 14th, 2011 at 1:37 pm

With the 2011 Licensing International Expo currently underway in Las Vegas, many promo posters have started hitting the net.  Yesterday we posted the promo poster for The Avengers as well as the promo posters for The Amazing Spider-Man, Hotel Transylvania, and more.  Continuing the barrage of advertising, we now have promo posters for The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, Battleship, The Three Stooges, The Lorax, 47 Ronin, The Croods, The Bourne Legacy, Rise of the Guardians, Stretch Armstrong, RIPD, Fast & Furious 6, and How to Train Your Dragon 2.  It’s worth noting that the promo poster for Fast & Furious 6 says the film is due out in 2013, which isn’t too surprising.  More intriguing is that the poster for How to Train Your Dragon 2 is simply titled “Dragons“.
Hit the jump to check out the promo posters and look out for more over the coming days.

First Photos from "American Pie 4" SetPosted: June 14th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Today we have the first photo from the set of "American Reunion," the fourth theatrical "American Pie" installment, which is bringing back the entire original cast, including Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy and John Cho. Check out the photos below.

The new movie will center around the gang's ten year high school reunion. Oz (Chris Klein) is a big shot with a Malibu mansion and a girlfriend who seems to be a gold-digger. Heather (Mena Suvari) is dating a middle-aged surgeon who tries to act younger than his age. Stifler's (Seann William Scott) life has gone down the drain — he's unhappily working as a temp, and isn't getting laid much. He avoids going to the reunion.

Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is an "international traveler" and will be scoring with Trish, a bartender who used to go to band camp with Michelle. Stifler's Mom (Jennifer Coolidge), the original MILF, will be making an appearance. Jim (Biggs) is still married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), but his next-door neighbor has a crush on him — and her long-term boyfriend isn't happy about it. Luke Evans to Star in The Amateur American
Source: FilmNation Entertainment March 11, 2011

FilmNation Entertainment and Likely Story have cast Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans, Tamara Drewe) to star in the action film The Amateur American. With shooting scheduled to start in Europe in September, the film will be produced by FilmNation Entertainment's Aaron Ryder and Likely Story's Anthony Bregman. FilmNation will also be handling international sales.

Based on the novel of the same title by J. Saunders Elmore, The Amateur American is written and will be directed by DGA-WGA Winner Ross Katz (HBO Films' "Taking Chance"), who also produced In the Bedroom and Lost in Translation. The action thriller is about a young American living in Paris who accepts a job working for a shadowy employer and soon finds himself framed for murder and caught up in a deadly game of espionage, blackmail, and deceit.

FilmNation's Ryder said: "We had the pleasure of working with Luke on The Raven and his performance in it is extraordinary. He is an ideal contemporary leading man."

Likely Story's Bregman adds: "Welshman Luke Evans is in fact an amateur American, but now he is our Amateur American -- which means he will now be duped, seduced, imprisoned, shot at, chased, and nearly killed by all manner of professional Europeans. We can't wait!"

Evans recently wrapped production on The Raven alongside John Cusack, and can next be seen in Summit's The Three Musketeers with Logan Lerman and Orlando Bloom, and Tarsem Singh's Immortals alongside Henry Cavill.

FilmNation is also currently in post-production on House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, and Elisabeth Shue; in development on F*cking Engaged with star Jessica Biel; and Message from the King from writers Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell.

Likely Story is currently in production on Stephen Frear's latest feature Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall and Catherine Zeta Jones. The company is also currently in post on both Lawrence Kasdan's Darling Companion starring Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline as well as Julian Farino's comedy The Oranges which topped the blacklist in 2008.

**47 Ronin Start of Principal Photography Announced **Renee Zellweger May Have Agreed To A Third Bridget Jones Film **UPDATED: Four Of The ’47 Ronin’ Have Been Cast; Actors Include Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano **Busy Philipps In A Bra And Skirt On The Set Of 'Cougar Town' **Courteney Cox Slip Slidin' Away On 'Cougar Town'

Renee Zellweger May Have Agreed To A Third Bridget Jones Film
published: 2011-03-01 10:05:57 Author: Katey Rich
When the Weinstein Company teamed up with their old studio Miramax at the end of last year and announced plans to produce sequels to some of Miramax's greatest hits, Bridget Jones's Diary was one of the titles mentioned with potential. Of course the movie has already had a sequel, 2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and while one of the stars (Renee Zellweger) can't seem to catch a career break these days, the other (Colin Firth) is a newly minted Oscar winner, and neither seem all that likely to return to the material. As for Hugh Grant, hey, who knows what he's going to do.

And yet, UK tabloid The Sun reports that Zellweger has agreed to star in a third film, so long as she doesn't have to put on weight as she did for the first two. And even Firth would be in-- he apparently told the BBC last month that it "could be quite fun" to return to Bridget, Mark and Daniel now that they're all getting older. The reported plot for the film would have Bridget pregnant, and not sure whether the father is Firth's or Grant's character. Given that the second film ended with Bridget accepting Mark's proposal I'm not sure how they'll work that twist out, but when a sequel is this brazenly desperate, these things can always be managed.

It's easy to see why Zellweger would want to return to one of her career high points, given that she hasn't had anything approximating a hit since 2005's Cinderella Man, but that's pretty much the only reason I can think of for this movie to exist. Then again, we're dealing with a UK tabloid here, publications notorious for publishing false rumors. But sadly, this sequel seems a lot more likely than a lot of the stuff they've been known to publish. This might be something we have to deal with after all.

UPDATED: Four Of The ’47 Ronin’ Have Been Cast; Actors Include Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano
Posted on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 by Germain Lussier

[UPDATE: This original story has been updated with an official press release, plot description, character names and high resolution cast photo. Check it all out after the jump.]
With Keanu Reeves set to star in Carl Erik Rinsch‘s 47 Ronin, by my math, still leaves about 46 Ronin to be cast. The 3D production is heating up and Variety is reporting that four more roles have been cast. Japanese actors Tadanobu Asano, Kou Shibasaki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hiroyuki Sanada have all joined the film.
Asano is familiar to film geeks for his roles in Ichi the Killer, Mongol and Zatoichi among many others, plus he’s got a two big movies coming up, Thor and Battleship. Shibasaki was in Go, Battle Royale and the original One Missed Call. Kikuchi is known to American audiences from her leading roles in Babel and The Brothers Bloom and Sanada is best known for roles in The Last Samuari, Sunshine and as Dogen in the final season of Lost. Ken Watanabe was rumored to be a part of the film, but that is still just a rumor.
Read more about Rinsch’s 47 Ronin, scheduled for release Thanksgiving 2012, and this casting after the jump.
Thanks to Variety for providing these casting announcements.
47 Ronin is a well-known story. Extremely well-known. According to the IMDB, there are no less than 14 films who have shared this title at some point during their production. Here’s how Peter described the film a few months ago:
Based on a true 18th Century Japanese story, the film follows a band of samurai swordsmen who are shamed into becoming the titular ronin — a Japanese word meaning lordless samurai, and must avenge the death of their master. The construct a huge plan and sacrifice everything to see it through.
And screenwriter Chris Morgan, who wrote the last three Fast and Furious films as well as Wanted, described the film as a “great, Gladiator-esque, 300-like big action movie with samurai and ninja.”
All that said, casting well-respected and talented Japanese actors such as these would certainly make it seem like this project is headed in the right direction. While some are more recognizable than others, each already had a pretty impressive Hollywood resume that will only be bolstered by this film. I’m suddenly much more excited about 47 Ronin.

Kate Winslet Covers 'Glamour' April 2011
Kate Winslet rocks an Herve Leger by Max Azria dress paired with Van Cleef & Arpels earrings on the cover of Glamour magazine’s April 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (March 8).
Here’s what the 35-year-old Mildred Pierce actress had to share:
On weight struggles when she was younger: “I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me - and it was such a backhanded compliment - they would say, ‘You’ve got such a beautiful face,’ in the way of, like, ‘Oh, isn’t it a shame that from the neck down you’re questionable.’ ”
On whether she’s had plastic surgery or wants to change anything about her body: “No, I have never tried any of that stuff…I don’t have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else’s or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are.”
On what it was like to win the Oscar: “I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn’t on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn’t me, so winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal-fist-pumping moment of yes.”
On if her ambition has changed since winning an Oscar: “I have just wanted to be an actress. That’s always been my goal. I didn’t want to be famous. I wanted to play incredibly challenging, multifaceted characters. Because we are all a puzzle.”
On the difficulties of raising kids: “The challenge is making sure that they’re never treated different just because I sometimes am. I always want them to be regular kids who are grateful and respectful of other human beings. I want them to know that when we fly first-class, that they are lucky. The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids - and I can say that this does happen frequently - is when the in-flight crew say to me, ‘Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved.’ Every time I am told that, I could weep.”

No Plans for "The A-Team" Sequel
Posted: March 1st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
The A-Team" cost $110 million to make, but grossed only $77 million domestically. The film ended up grossing another $99 million internationally, but that wasn't enough for 20th Century Fox to move forward with a sequel.

Then came word that if "The A-Team" performs well on Blu-ray/DVD, then a sequel may happen. Now that it has been a few months after the release, DigitalSpy caught up with Liam Neeson to get an update.

"There's nothing planned at the minute, but the studios certainly aren't saying no," the actor explained. "I personally would love to get on the horse again with Bradley and Sharlto and Rampage - we all would. But it's a question of dollars and cents."

He continued: "I thought it was a really good movie, and thought it would've done much, much better at the box office in America, but the studio released it the day after the World Cup started, and I think that probably affected the overall performance of the film."

Second Trailer For Kate Hudson Rom-Com Something Borrowed
published: 2011-03-01 16:34:55 Author:
Eric Eisenberg
Everyone quickly grab their thinking caps, it's time for a pop quiz (don't worry, you won't graded and it's only one question). Ready? Here it is: when was the last time that Kate Hudson made a film that was given overwhelmingly positive reviews? If you answered 2000's Almost Famous then you are right on the money. In the eleven years since, Hudson hasn't made a film that has received a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Does this mean that Something Borrowed is absolutely guaranteed to be terrible? Absolutely not. But the look of the new trailer isn't helping any.

Apple has posted the second look at the rom-com, which appears to be as cookie-cutter as they come. In the movie Ginnifer Goodwin plays a young woman who misses out on her chance to be with the man of her dreams (Colin Egglesfield) and watches him become involved with her best friend (Hudson). But as Egglesfield and Hudson are about to get married Goodwin makes out with him and everything goes nuts.

Check out the trailer below or in HD over on Apple.

47 Ronin Gets A Start Date, Four New Japanese Cast Members
published: 2011-03-01 15:33:00 Author: Eric Eisenberg

After spending so many years watching Keanu Reeves play the ass-kicking Jesus figure, he's somewhat fallen off the map. The actor's last major release was The Day The Earth Stood Still back in 2008, and while he has done projects since, they haven't been anywhere near the same scale. Lucky for us he'll be making his comeback with 47 Ronin and now the film not only has a production schedule, but Reeves has some new co-stars.

Universal has sent out a press release announcing that the new film, directed by Carl Erik Rinsch, is officially scheduled to begin production on March 14. Also, in addition to the previously announced Reeves, the cast has added Japanese actors Hiroyuki San, Kou Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi. Based on a script by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini, the film tells the story of an outcast who joins a group of warriors called the 47 Ronin who seek vengeance against the man who killed their master.

The release also came with an image of the cast and the director, which you can see below (click on it to see the photo in high-res). From right to left there is Rinko Kikuchi, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, Keanu Reeves, Kou Shibasaki, and Carl Rinsch. The film is set to be released on November 21, 2012. by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 1st, 2011

When Warner Bros. officially announced that Anne Hathaway would be joining Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, they made the odd choice of referring to her character only as “Selina Kyle” and not Kyle’s more famous alter-ego, Catwoman.  This led to speculation that Catwoman may be held for future movies (even though Nolan has stated that TDKR is his last Batman movie).
But now, for anyone that had the slightest fear that Catwoman wouldn’t be in The Dark Knight Rises, you can put that fear to rest.  Speaking on Oprah’s post-Oscar special, Hathaway refers to her TDKR role only as “Catwoman” and her enthusiasm about getting the part.  Hit the jump to check out the video.  The Dark Knight Rises is set to open on July 20, 2012.

Mark Wahlberg Considering a Sequel to THE FIGHTER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 1st, 2011

David O. Russell’s The Fighter picked up two Academy Awards on Sunday (Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress), it’s grossed over $100 million worldwide, and star/producer Mark Wahlberg isn’t ready to give up the story of Mickey Ward just yet.  Speaking to Extra [via The Playlist] on the red carpet Sunday, Wahlberg said:
“Now we’re gonna talk about doing No. 2,” Wahlberg explained. “We’re gonna do the Ward/Gatti trilogy and make it real,” referring to the real-life Mickey Ward’s three fights with his most fierce opponent, Arturo Gatti.
Hit the jump for my thoughts on continuing the story of The Fighter.

43 Images from RED RIDING HOOD Starring Amanda Seyfried

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 1st, 2011

I can’t watch the trailer for Red Riding Hood without laughing.  It looks like a parody of a real movie with its overly sinister take on the Red Riding Hood fairy tale.  I know the Brothers Grimm’s original tales were dark, but you’re not going to turn “My, what big eyes you have,” into a chilling piece of horror dialogue.  While the story may turn out to be a problem, cinematographer Mandy Walker has done a solid job capturing the gothic tone that director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) wanted to convey.
Hit the jump to check out 43 images from the movie.  Red Riding Hood stars Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Shiloh Fernandez, Billy Burke, Virginia Madsen, and Julie Christie.  It opens March 11th.

Sanada, Shibasaki, Asano, and Kikuchi Join Keanu Reeves in 47 RONIN; Updated With Image of Cast in London

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 1st, 2011

Four Japanese actors have joined Keanu Reeves in Carl Erik Rinsch’s 47 Ronin. Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost), Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale), Tadanobu Asano (Mongol), and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) will star alongside Reeves in Rinsch’s adaptation of the Japanese legend of ronin who fought to avenge their master’s death.  The film, which Universal is setting up as one of its 2012 tentpoles, is set to be released in 3D on November 11, 2012.
Variety doesn’t say which roles the new cast members will be playing.  However, judging by the previous work I’ve seen from these actors, I’m become more excited for what 47 Ronin holds in store. [Update: Universal has sent us a press release detailing the roles the lead actors will be playing.  Hit the jump to check it out.]

Keanu Reeves Says Matrix 4 and 5 are Coming

AICN received a scoop from an event that took place at the London International School of Performing Arts, where Keanu Reeves spoke to the class about his career while promoting his new movie "Henry's Crime." He spoke briefly about "47 Ronin" and "Bill and Ted 3," but the big news came when Reeves revealed that he met with the Wachowskis around Christmas. They told him that they completed script treatments for two more "Matrix" installments. They are planning to make the films in 3D and have already met with James Cameron to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the technology. Reeves added that he's excited to return as Neo and promised that the treatments will truly revolutionize the action genre like the first "Matrix" film did. »

Samurai in training: Keanu Reeves heads off to work with his trusty sword in hand

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 9:50 AM on 15th December 2010
As any proud Samurai knows - never let your sword leave your side.
And Keanu Reeves was no exception as he headed to rehearsals Monday in Los Angeles, clutching his Samurai sword along with a bottle of water.
The 46-year-old actor definitely wasn't in the mood to be photographed, hiding his face behind his hand as he walked from his car.

Why so shy? Keanu Reeves tried to hide his face from the cameras as he walked from his car in Los Angeles on Monday
Keanu was dressed in his favourite homeless -style ensemble of knitted beanie, old tracksuit bottoms, ratty grey T-shirt and crumpled jacket.

The matrix star's hair was long and unkempt, poking out from the bottom of his hat and his beard was wild and unruly.
He completed his decidedly non- A-lister look with an old shabby tan coloured shoulder bag, white trainers and a pair of large black sunglasses.
The action star was announced last year as the main star in the upcoming Universal Studios remake of the 1994 Japanese movie, 47 Ronin.
Based upon a true story, 47 Ronin is about a group of samurai left leaderless when their master was forced to commit suicide after assaulting a court official.

The Ronin planned and executed their revenge against the official… and were then forced to kill themselves for committing the murder.
According to Variety: 'The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in The Lord of The Rings pictures, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as Gladiator.'
The movie, which is being directed by Carl Rinsch, will be shot entirely in 3D and has a release date of November 21, 2012.

Turning Japanese: 47 Ronin is based on a true life tale of a group of Samurai who avenge their master's death
The film is shaping up to be heavily stylised and visually stunning with plenty of special effects.
Producers have commissioned Nottingham-based fashion designer Daniel Hanson to producer 300 kimonos for the movie, forcing him to drop his Spring/Summer collection for he first time in 21-years.
The designer will be making costumes for 100 monks, 50 samurai, 16 prostitutes and 15 concubines.
'It's manor from heaven for us,' he said. 'We've got an end client. We can be as creative as we want to be within the context of the budget and know there is payback for it.'

Hobo chic: Keanu was rocking his usual homeless look with his shaggy hair and scraggly unkempt beard

Director Carl Rinsch’s 47 RONIN Starring Keanu Reeves to be Produced and Released in 3D

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 8th, 2010

We’ve received word that Universal plans to shoot and release the upcoming Keanu Reeves action film 47 Ronin in 3D. Director Carl Rinsch, who has previously been attached to the upcoming Alien prequel as well as a Logan’s Run remake, will make his feature film debut on the project. The project officially got a greenlight last month, as well as a release date of November 21, 2012. There’s no word as to whether the entire film will be shot in 3D, or if some of the footage will be filmed in 2D and then post-converted like the upcoming Transformers: The Dark of the Moon.
Based upon a true story, 47 Ronin is the tale of 18th century samurai who head out to avenge the death of their master. It’s the most famous tale of the samurai code of honor, “bushido.” For a director who has yet to make his feature film debut, Rinsch has been attached to some decidedly high-profile projects, and Reeves’ work on The Matrix trilogy has him well-versed in martial arts (“I know kung-fu”). Needless to say, this flick sounds fairly bad-ass on paper. We’ll find out if Rinsch lives up to his reputation come November 2012.

Orlando Bloom Near Deal to Reprise Role as Legolas in THE HOBBIT Films

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 8th, 2010

After the news that Cate Blanchett is set to reprise her role as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit films, one might think that the next bit of official casting news would include the return of Ian McKellen or Andy Serkis. A bit surprisingly, Deadline reports that Orlando Bloom is currently close to reaching a deal to return as Legolas in The Hobbit. While his character doesn’t appear in the J.R.R. Tolkein book, his father does. Nevertheless, this is fantastic news to LOTR fans, as Bloom brought a much-welcomed “bad-assness” to the role. The report states that McKellen (Gandalf), Serkis (Smeagol/Gollum), and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) are expected to return, but talks between their respective agents and the studio haven’t been completely worked out yet.
We recently told you that Jackson will shoot the films in 3D using the new RED EPIC cameras, and announced that Howard Shore would be officially returning to score The Hobbit films. Expect more information and casting announcements in the coming weeks, as the production start-date draws closer. The Hobbit Part 1 & 2 will be released in 3D on December 2012 and December 2013 respectively.

Armie Hammer in Talks to Play J. Edgar Hoover’s Lover in Clint Eastwood’s J. EDGAR; Charlize Theron Offered the Role of Hoover’s Secretary

by Tommy Cook    Posted: December 8th, 2010

Armie Hammer’s portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network has deservedly garnered the young actor a lot of attention – with some even suggesting he could make a good Superman for Zack Snyder’s reboot. Now EW reports that Hammer is in talks to costar with Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar. Hammer would reportedly play Hoover’s advisor and lover Clyde Tolson (although there is much controversy surrounding the factual accuracy of that last part). The fact that Hammer has been cast in such a role suggests the film will not shy away from Hoover’s oft-disputed personal life.
Meanwhile, Vulture is reporting that Charlize Theron has been offered the role of J. Edgar Hoover’s personal secretary, Helen Gandy. Gandy began her career as a Justice Department file clerk and ended up working for Hoover for over 54 years.  For previous coverage on J. Edgar, click here.

MPAA Overturns NC-17 Ruling on BLUE VALENTINE

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 8th, 2010

The MPAA has overturned its original decision to give Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine an NC-17. The Weinstein Company recently mounted a legal campaign to get Blue Valentine an R-rating and knock The King’s Speech down from an R-rating to PG-13.  This is wonderful news for Blue Valentine and for sanity. I saw the film earlier this week and while it’s raw and emotional, there’s nothing in it that merits an NC-17.  According to Deadline, the MPAA’s decision to overturn the rating was reportedly unanimous.
Blue Valentine, which stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as a married couple in a deteriorating relationship, should now open on December 31st without any problems from nervous exhibitors.  Now the trick is getting audiences to ring in the new year by watching the love between two people crumble and fall apart.
