Leonardo DiCaprio: Dracula Producer?

The 36-year-old actor chatted with director Clint Eastwood on set and got his makeup retouched in between takes.
The day before, Leo suited up in a tux while filming scenes with co-star Armie Hammer.
Leo’s next project may have him stepping behind the camera.
His production company, Appian Way, is close to closing a deal for Harker, which centers around a Scotland Yard detective who is tracking Dracula, Deadline reports.

Nicholas Hoult Is 'Jack The Giant Killer'

Nicholas Hoult suits up on the cover of Esquire Korea’s February 2011 issue.

The 21-year-old British actor, who’s dating his X-Men: First Class co-star Jennifer Lawrence, has been offered the lead in Jack the Giant Killer.

The Bryan Singer-directed drama is a “scary revisionist take on the Jack and the Beanstalk mythology,” according to Deadline.

Nicholas would star as a farmer who leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess.

Stanley Tucci has signed on to play the villain, while Bill Nighy and John Kassir have been cast as a two-headed giant, Variety reports.

Leonardo DiCaprio smokes a cigar while wearing pajamas in his latest movie J. Edgar on Wednesday (February 9) in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old actor star was joined on set by Judi Dench, who plays J. Edgar’s mother Anna Marie Hoover. Naomi Watts is set to portray Helen Gandy, a loyal secretary of Hoover, and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) is cast for the role of Agent Smith, a clean-cut operative hired by Hoover to write his biography.

The first few shots of the film showed Leonardo teaching a younger co-star how to smoke a cigarette.

Elijah Wood Confirmed for THE HOBBIT

Yesterday, we told you about the rumor that Elijah Wood would possibly be appearing in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit films. For once, it looks like the rumors may be true. Wood is apparently now set to reprise his role as Frodo Baggins in both films. We now even know in what capacity he will appear, but since many of you want to remain spoiler-free, we’ll leave that until after the jump.

Wood joins Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis and Orlando Bloom on the growing list of actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy that are reportedly in talks to appear in Jackson’s Hobbit films. Hit the jump for the details of Frodo’s involvement.

Again, if you want to remain free and clear from plot points regarding The Hobbit, stop reading now.

TheOneRing.net reports that Frodo will apparently appear in the opening sequence of each of The Hobbit films, setting the flicks up as a frame story. As the audience is being told the tale of Bilbo Baggins’ adventures, Frodo will be hearing the story as well. Personally, I think this is a great way for Jackson to bridge The Hobbit films with his LOTR trilogy. Wood’s appearance should serve as nice bookends, and I can only assume that if he appears at the end of the second film I’ll have a burning desire to rush home and throw on The Fellowship of the Ring as quickly as possible.

Not only does this provide an accessible frame story through which the audience can be told Bilbo’s story, it also paves the way for more actors from LOTR to appear in The Hobbit, should Jackson choose to do so. There’s been no confirmation of fellow hobbits Sean Astin, Dominic Monahan or Billy Boyd making an appearance, but it remains a feasible possibility.

So far, the only actors from the LOTR trilogy that have been confirmed to appear in The Hobbit are Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving. Martin Freeman stars as Bilbo Baggins and Howard Shore is returning to score the films.  The Hobbit Part I is scheduled to be released in December 2012, with The Hobbit Part II set to follow in December 2013. Will Elijah Wood be in The Hobbit? According to Deadline the answer might be a resounding yes. File this under rumor for now, but supposedly conversations have opened up between the Lord of the Rings star and Warner Bros. regarding a possible Frodo cameo. Not surprisingly, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Orlando Bloom are said to be in talks to join Martin Freeman and the ever expanding cast in the much anticipated return to Middle Earth. Of course, every Hobbit fan knows of Gandalf’s and Gollum’s importance to the prequel story, but the tale occurred long before Frodo was a wee lad so where he’ll figure into the proceedings remains anyone’s guess.

In related news from earlier today, Warner Bros. will oversee worldwide distribution of The Hobbit and cover the entire cost of the prequels, which is said to exceed $500 million. How’s that for a Hobbit’s tale?

Armie Hammer Offers Details on Clint Eastwood’s J. EDGAR

While the filmmakers and cast of The Social Network are making the obligatory pre-Oscar press rounds right now, it’s prime time to get some info on their upcoming projects. Armie Hammer has done just that, as he recently offered up some details on Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar. Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly attached to play the title character, with Hammer taking on the role of Hoover’s lover and confidant Clyde Toulson. Apparently the film will span a number of years, with Hammer and DiCaprio donning old-age makeup. Hammer had this to say:

I’m playing Toulson up to his elderly age! Makeup stuff comes within the next couple weeks. We’re definitely doing a lot of wardrobe stuff right now, but the makeup stuff we haven’t done yet.

A couple weeks ago, we told you that Judi Dench had joined the cast in an unspecified role. In speaking with Vulture, Hammer confirmed her addition to the cast and said that she’ll be playing Hoover’s mother. “Really perfect,” Hammer said of her casting.

Apparently, the story mainly follows Hoover and Toulson as young men, but several flash forwards will be scattered throughout the film that show the two as old men in their seventies.  While initially only colleagues, Hoover and Toulson will share an onscreen kiss following an altercation, which then leads to Hoover bringing Toulson in as the FBI director’s right-hand man.

Personally, I’m very much excited to see what Eastwood does with this material. The talent involved is incredible: screenwriter Lance Black won the Oscar for his screenplay for Milk, DiCaprio is one of the greatest actors of his generation, and Hammer showed unbelievable promise in The Social Network. Charlize Theron has also reportedly been offered the role of Hoover’s secretary. Production on J. Edgar is set to begin next month, and with the fast pace at which Eastwood works, it’s feasible that the film could hit theaters by the end of this year.

Tom Hardy: This Means Rainy War

Tom Hardy gets back to work on his upcoming comedy This Means War on Wednesday (December 8) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The 33-year-old British actor braved the rainy weather while arriving at the movie’s set.

Up next for Tom? Possibly working with Shia LaBeouf in the dramatic thriller The Wettest County in the World.

The flick centers around a family of bootleggers during Prohibition in Virginia and is expected to start production in the spring.

Armie Hammer: Leonardo DiCaprio's 'Hoover' Lover

The Social Network’s Armie Hammer has been cast to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s lover in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film Hoover.

The 24-year-old actor will play Clyde Tolson, J. Edgar Hoover’s number two guy at the FBI and his secret lover, Deadline reports.

Also joining the film, which was written by Milk’s Dustin Lance Black, Charlize Theron.

She’s been offered the role of Helen Gandy, J. Edgar’s personal secretary who worked for him for more than 50 years, according to NYMag.

Bradley Cooper & Anne Hathaway See 'Silver Linings'

Anne Hathaway has signed on for the upcoming film The Silver Linings Playbook, and there’s buzz Bradley Cooper has been approached for the male lead!

The pic, which will likely be directed by The Fighter’s David O. Russell, is based on the novel of the same name.

Synopsis (via Showbiz411): “A former high school history teacher gets out of a mental hospital and is placed in the care of his mother. His goal is to win back his ex wife. But he winds up in a romance with a kooky neighbor who also has mental problems.”

Director Carl Rinsch’s 47 RONIN Starring Keanu Reeves to be Produced and Released in 3D

We’ve received word that Universal plans to shoot and release the upcoming Keanu Reeves action film 47 Ronin in 3D. Director Carl Rinsch, who has previously been attached to the upcoming Alien prequel as well as a Logan’s Run remake, will make his feature film debut on the project. The project officially got a greenlight last month, as well as a release date of November 21, 2012. There’s no word as to whether the entire film will be shot in 3D, or if some of the footage will be filmed in 2D and then post-converted like the upcoming Transformers: The Dark of the Moon.
Based upon a true story, 47 Ronin is the tale of 18^th century samurai who head out to avenge the death of their master. It’s the most famous tale of the samurai code of honor, “bushido.” For a director who has yet to make his feature film debut, Rinsch has been attached to some decidedly high-profile projects, and Reeves’ work on The Matrix trilogy has him well-versed in martial arts (“I know kung-fu”). Needless to say, this flick sounds fairly bad-ass on paper. We’ll find out if Rinsch lives up to his reputation come November 2012.

Orlando Bloom Near Deal to Reprise Role as Legolas in THE HOBBIT Films

After the news that Cate Blanchett is set to reprise her role as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit films, one might think that the next bit of official casting news would include the return of Ian McKellen or Andy Serkis. A bit surprisingly, Deadline reports that Orlando Bloom is currently close to reaching a deal to return as Legolas in The Hobbit. While his character doesn’t appear in the J.R.R. Tolkein book, his father does. Nevertheless, this is fantastic news to LOTR fans, as Bloom brought a much-welcomed “bad-assness” to the role. The report states that McKellen (Gandalf), Serkis (Smeagol/Gollum), and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) are expected to return, but talks between their respective agents and the studio haven’t been completely worked out yet.
We recently told you that Jackson will shoot the films in 3D using the new RED EPIC cameras, and announced that Howard Shore would be officially returning to score The Hobbit films. Expect more information and casting announcements in the coming weeks, as the production start-date draws closer. The Hobbit Part 1 & 2 will be released in 3D on December 2012 and December 2013 respectively.

Armie Hammer’s portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network has deservedly garnered the young actor a lot of attention – with some even suggesting he could make a good Superman for Zack Snyder’s reboot. Now EW reports that Hammer is in talks to costar with Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar. Hammer would reportedly play Hoover’s advisor and lover Clyde Tolson (although there is much controversy surrounding the factual accuracy of that last part). The fact that Hammer has been cast in such a role suggests the film will not shy away from Hoover’s oft-disputed personal life.
Meanwhile, Vulture is reporting that Charlize Theron has been offered the role of J. Edgar Hoover’s personal secretary, Helen Gandy. Gandy began her career as a Justice Department file clerk and ended up working for Hoover for over 54 years.  For previous coverage on J. Edgar, click here.

MPAA Overturns NC-17 Ruling on BLUE VALENTINE

The MPAA has overturned its original decision to give Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine an NC-17. The Weinstein Company recently mounted a legal campaign to get Blue Valentine an R-rating and knock The King’s Speech down from an R-rating to PG-13.  This is wonderful news for Blue Valentine and for sanity. I saw the film earlier this week and while it’s raw and emotional, there’s nothing in it that merits an NC-17.  According to Deadline, the MPAA’s decision to overturn the rating was reportedly unanimous.
Blue Valentine, which stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as a married couple in a deteriorating relationship, should now open on December 31st without any problems from nervous exhibitors.  Now the trick is getting audiences to ring in the new year by watching the love between two people crumble and fall apart.
