***Keanu Reeves 'Matrix' Sequels Story 'Not True'

Keanu Reeves 'Matrix' Sequels Story 'Not True'

According to a rep for the actor...

By Cher Tippetts on Tuesday 25th January 2011
It looks as if Keanu Reeves’ bombshell that the Wachowski Brothers are working on two sequels to their Matrix trilogy was a big fat hoax.
Reports surfaced earlier this week that the actor, who starred as Neo in the first three Matrix movies, lifted the lid on the upcoming sequels during a recent Q&A session at the London International School of Performing Arts.

Reeves was supposed to have revealed that he met with the Wachowskis over Christmas, when they apparently showed him “a two-picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of The Matrix as Neo."

Oh, and they’d already chatted to James Cameron about releasing the new instalments in 3D.

However, a rep for Reeves – who has indeed been in London for the past few weeks – told Playlist that “none of it is true...he did not speak nor get an award from the from the London International School of Performing Arts.”

We’re not sure whether to be disappointed or relieved.

Hot Guy Of The Day : Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves sees Matrix 4 and 5 on horizon, website claims

Matrix star reportedly told London audience that Wachowski brothers have written two more instalments of sci-fi series

When the credits rolled at the end of the third and supposedly final film in the Wachowski brothers' science fiction trilogy, most people assumed they had seen the last of The Matrix. Not so, according to star Keanu Reeves, who reportedly told a London audience that a fourth and fifth film may be in the works.

US site Aintitcool.com says Reeves broke the news while speaking at the London School of Performing Arts to promote his new film, Henry's Crime. The site's correspondent writes: "He met the Wachowskis for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two-picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo.
"[He] says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. Keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title 'The Matrix' and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie. [The] Wachowskis are working on a movie called Cloud Atlas at the moment, once that concludes they will talk again."

The news comes as a surprise for two reasons: firstly, the final Matrix film, The Matrix Revolutions, rounded off the story arc fairly precisely, with the machines and humans having secured peace. Secondly, the final two films in the series are widely considered to have been failures, with Revolutions coming in for particular criticism. The films still managed to pull in more than $1bn at the global box office when combined, however.
Since completing the series in 2003, the Wachowskis have directed only one film, anime-inspired flop Speed Racer. They have plans to bring a modern-day take on the legend of Robin Hood to the big screen. Cloud Atlas will be an adaptation of the 2004 David Mitchell novel, a series of six interlinked stories set in a variety of different eras, from the 19th century to the far future.

Are Two More MATRIX Films in the Works? And in 3D?

    The Matrix movie image slice
While there is a decent chance you’ll one day be able to file this under “Internet movie rumors that never amounted to anything,” we’d be remiss not to at least pass this along.  A report has filed in from a “Q & A” at the London International School of Performing Arts which claims that star Keanu Reeves spoke at moderate length about returning to The Matrix for two more sequels.  Per the account, Reeves claims to have had lunch with The Wachowski Brothers over Christmas during which they briefed him on a two-film treatment they had finished for the Matrix franchise.
Obviously, keep in mind that the purported eye-witness account of the “Q & A” is, as of yet, unconfirmed.  Nevertheless, if you’d like to here more about what Reeves purportedly had to say about reprising his role as Neo, hit the jump.
keanu-reeves-the-matrix-imageThe report sparking all of this Matrix sequel debate comes from AICN who posted the news based upon an e-mail sent to them by a reader.  Within the account, the reader (who refers to himself as “El-Nino”) claims that Reeves told the audience that he feels he has an obligation to fans of The Matrix to deliver a movie worthy of the game-changing franchise to which it would belong.
Moreover, “El-Nino” also claims that The Wachowski’s have already met with James Cameron so as to weigh the pros-and-cons of making the films in 3D.  All of this in mind, while Reeves apparently believes that the treatments presented to him by The Wachowski’s will “truly revolutionize the action genre like the first movie,” the report claims that he will not meet with The Wachowki’s again until they finish work on their new film Cloud Atlas.
To reiterate, as of now all of this speculation is based purely upon an unconfirmed report. Nevertheless, this is currently the biggest rumor we’ve heard concerning The Matrix since the trilogy wrapped up in 2003.  As of now, we’re doing some digging of our own into the report and will have more info as it becomes available.

It is being rumored that Keanu Reeves met with the Wachowski's for lunch over Christmas and that they had completed work on a two-picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo.

Also, the Wachowski's apparently met with James Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen before.

The Matrix was released March 31st, 1999 and stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Gloria Foster, Joe Pantoliano, Marcus Chong, Julian Arahanga. The film is directed by Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski.

First Teaser Trailer for INSIDIOUS Starring Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: January 23rd, 2011

FilmDistrict has released the first teaser trailer for Insidious a few months after we saw the first clip and a positive reception at the Toronto International Film Festival.  Rose Byrne (Damages) and Patrick Wilson (The A-Team) star as parents of a boy who falls into a coma after an accident at their new house: “The tragedy doesn’t stop there when they are beset by vengeful spirits from another realm.”  Insidious is the latest collaboration between Saw director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell, and the teaser is appropriately very creepy.  Watch it after the break.
Insidious opens on April 1. Via AICN:

Elizabeth Olsen Joins Sigourney Weaver in RED LIGHTS

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: January 23rd, 2011

Elizabeth Olsen will capitalize on her status as Sundance darling to land a role opposite Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy in Red Lights.  Directed by Rodrigo Cortés (Buried), the thriller centers on “a psychologist (Weaver) and her assistant (Olsen) whose study of paranormal activity leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic (De Niro).”  Olsen tells Risky Business, “Cillian Murphy is my love interest, though that’s not a huge part of the story.”
The role is a nice fit since Elizabeth (sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) is currently studying psychology at New York University.  Though she claims her education is “always a priority,” it hasn’t distracted from a budding film career: Olsen earned positive notices for the Sundance selections Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene.  She’ll have to take another break from school to shoot Red Lights, which is currently in pre-production.

Keanu Reeves - Keanu Reeves Reveals Plans For Matrix Four And Five

    24 January 2011
The fourth and fifth sequels to 'The Matrix' may be shot in 3D, with creators Andy and Larry Wachowski reportedly keen to ''truly revolutionise'' the action movie genre.

Keanu Reeves has revealed plans are underway for two more sequels to 'The Matrix'.
The actor - who appears as Neo in the first three movies of the sci-fi action drama - hinted he and the writers of the franchise, Andy and Larry Wachowski, have discussed the possibility of shooting the two new movies in 3D and are reportedly seeking further advice from 'Avatar' creator James Cameron.
However, the Wachowskis are said to be keen to deliver something which has "never been seen" in the movie world and would "truly transform" the action movie genre.
Hearing Keanu commenting during a key note speech at the London School of Performing Arts, a reporter for Ain't It Cool News said: "They have completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of 'The Matrix' as Neo.
"Keanu says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. He stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title 'The Matrix' and he swears this time that the treatment will truly transform the action genre like the first movie."
However, according to the reporter, the Wachowskis are looking to complete their current work on new movie 'Cloud Atlas' before discussing the possibility of adding to 'The Matrix' series.

Keanu Reeves hints The Matrix 4 and 5

    Simon Brew

Could we be getting a new pair of Matrix sequels? Keanu Reeves apparently says so, with the Wachowskis reportedly even chatting to James Cameron about The Matrix 4 and 5…

For The Matrix trilogy never came close to matching the inventiveness, quality and sheer entertainment of the original with anything that followed, and once the back-to-back follow-ups had been and gone, it seemed that few had the inclination to give the Wachowski Brothers any more money to make any more.

Yet, that day may yet happen.
At an event in London to promote his newly released movie, Henry's Crime, Keanu Reeves - according to a report at AintItCool - said that "he met the Wachowskis (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the matrix as Neo".
The report continues, suggesting that the Wachowskis had met up with James Cameron, "to discuss the pros and cons of 3D", and "are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again".
Reeves, seemingly acknowledging the problems with The Matrix sequels, also apparently said that "he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie".
That's a fair amount to digest.
Firstly, it should be noted that this is a pinch-of-salt piece at the moment. There's not a whisper of official confirmation, nor have we heard from anyone else at the event where Reeves was reported to utter all of the above.
If it is true, though, then a few things. Firstly, appreciating that it's in vogue to slam 3D at every opportunity, a deployment of the technology in the selective manner of Tron: Legacy might actually serve a Matrix sequel well.
Secondly, why two films? Didn't The Matrix franchise (along with the Pirates Of The Caribbean saga) go off the rails when the people behind it were trying to juggle two massive back-to-back productions?
And thirdly, the Wachowskis. Let's assume that it is the Wachowski Brothers that are being referred to. Since Bound and The Matrix in the 1990s, the problem here is that they've not made a compelling film. We quite enjoyed Speed Racer, and it was visually brilliant, but a proper, interesting three-act movie it was not.
Do the Wachowski Brothers have it in them to make a groundbreaking movie again? Most are lucky to manage to do so once in their lives. We'd be happily surprised if they could do it again.
The full report can be found at AICN here, and we'll be fascinated to read what you make of all of this in the comments below...

Keanu Reeves On For The Matrix 4 and 5 in 3D?
Keanu Reeves and The Wachowskis are allegedly interested in making two new 3D Matrix sequels.

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Reeves recently made comments during a key note speech at the London School of Performing Arts that not only hints at The Matrix 4 and 5, but proves that the wheels are already in motion.

Their informant said that Reeves admitted he had recently met with the franchise's creators The Wachowskis over the festive period, who introduced him to a new two-film treatment that "would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo."

If that isn't enough to get you dusting off your full body leather coat and black shades, they also said that they would be getting in touch with James Cameron to discuss making the movies in 3D.

Now, we can't confirm the informant's claims, but with none of the cast or crew really having found fame since the last Matrix (Speed Racer and The Day The Earth Stood Still proving their biggest hits to date), it's not completely beyond the realms of imagination.

Keanu Reeves talks more Matrix sequels and other projects

by Jack on January 24, 2011

Harry at AICN has received a report from someone who attended a keynote speech at the London School of Performing Arts – at which Keanu Reeves was guest of honour. Presuming truthfulness behind the report, Keanu Reeves talked about a potential Bill & Ted 3, more Matrix sequels, and other projects that he could potentially be involved with. Read more after the break.
Keanu supposedly mentioned four projects; I’ll summarise the important stuff here, but if you want to read “El-Nino”‘s full report, you can hit the Ain’t It Cool link above.
    - Reeves said he’s 2 months into a 6 month training programme for a hard R-rated 3D samurai film (47 Ronin) which will feature “great martial art set pieces.”
    - Apparently he is “committed” to a third entry in the Bill & Ted franchise, but only spoke about it as a possibility. If you ask me, they’ve gotta leave all these ’80s and early ’90s films alone; it’s just becoming too much. Same goes for Ghostbusters. Let it be.
    - This is probably the biggest part of the whole thing: Reeves supposedly met with the Wachowskis to discuss a two-film script treatment which would revisit the universe of The Matrix. The new films are said to want to “revolutionise” the action genre again and Keanu also wants to deliver a movie “worthy” of The Matrix title. According to El-Nino, the Wachowskis also met with James Cameron to discuss producing the new films in 3D.
    - Reeves apparently said that the Wachowskis sold their modern, futuristic take on the Robin Hood tale (titled Hood) to Warner Bros. for $5 million, and that it will have the same impact visually and technically that Terminator 2 did back in 1991. Will Smith is most likely for the lead role at the moment.
Take this (well, The Matrix bit) with a grain of salt at the moment, I guess.
The first Matrix film was absolutely fantastic; its two sequels weren’t able to keep up though, and it seems like a fourth and fifth film could just be dragging it out. The Robin Hood story has kinda been done to death, but I’m just hoping to see any sort of good sci-fi film from the Wachowskis, who have only directed 2008′s Speed Racer since The Matrix Revolutions in 2003. Their next film will be an adaptation of the novel Cloud Atlas.
Which of these projects are you guys enthusiastic about, if any?
