Christopher Nolan Wanted for "Blade Runner" Sequel/Prequel

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We just reported that Alcon Entertainment has acquired the rights to "Blade Runner" with plans of developing a sequel or prequel to the original film.

io9 has now caught up with the producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson to find out if they are leaning toward making a sequel or a prequel. "We don't know, we just don't know yet," said Kosove. "We will have a process where we will hear different ideas from writers or from potential directors before determining."

When asked who they would like to direct their new "Blade Runner" film, Kosove replied: "Our friend Chris Nolan who we did 'Insomnia' [with]. The methodology that Chris Nolan brought to Batman is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley [Scott] comes back and joins us or it's someone else."

It's not impossible that Nolan may be in talks. Alcon is a close partner with Warner Bros, which has been behind most of Nolan's films.

David Fincher to Direct Kevin Spacey in "House of Cards" TV Series

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Kevin Spacey produced David Fincher's "The Social Network" and the two men are now re-teaming for "House of Cards" television show. Fincher will direct the pilot episode, while Spacey is set to executive produce and star.

"House of Cards" is based on a book by Michael Dobbs. It is set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job. Fincher's version will be set in the US and is written by playwright/screenwriter Beau Willimon (The Ides of March).

In 1990, the book was adapted by the BBC as a mini-series written by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary) and starring Ian Richardson (From Hell). It went on to win a BAFTA award for Richardson and an Emmy for Davies.

"Mad Max" Sequels to Begin Filming in January

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We haven't heard anything about the upcoming "Mad Max" sequels ("Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Mad Max: Furiosa"), which will be shot back-to-back, for a while. But now comes word that production is ready to go.

"We've built the vehicles," said director George Miller. "We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait. We really had nowhere to shoot."

The plan is to begin filming in January of 2012 due to the unpredictable rains that have temporarily ruined the desert of the Australian outback. Once everything clears up, cameras will begin rolling. Tom Hardy (Inception) stars as the title character.

Another "Bridget Jones" Book and Movie in the Works

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Bridget Jones" creator Helen Fielding has confirmed that she is writing the third installment in the best-selling book series. In fact, she recently read three pages from it at Damian Barr's Literary Salon.

Fielding added that a new film has already been discussed. "I will be working on both the book and the film but I don't know if they are the same thing yet," she said. "It's not been decided."

One of the themes of the third book will be Bridget having a mid-thirties baby crisis. And if the film is ever made, Fielding would like to see Hugh Grant and Colin Firth return as Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy. "I think the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun," she said. "We're making a comedy, after all."

Elizabeth Hurley is the Villain in "Wonder Woman" TV Series

Posted: March 3rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
It was recently reported that Adrianna Palicki ("Friday Night Lights") has been cast as the lead in NBC's new "Wonder Woman" TV series. And now comes word that the villain has been cast as well.

"Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot 'Wonder Woman,'" Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers) wrote on her Twitter page. "I'll be playing the evil villain. Can't wait."

Deadline looked into this and has learned that Hurley will play Veronica Gale, the beautiful, highly-educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with the serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy.

Meanwhile, Tracie Thoms ("Cold Case") will play the role of Etta, Wonder Woman's always cheerful personal assistant.

**47 Ronin Start of Principal Photography Announced **Renee Zellweger May Have Agreed To A Third Bridget Jones Film **UPDATED: Four Of The ’47 Ronin’ Have Been Cast; Actors Include Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano **Busy Philipps In A Bra And Skirt On The Set Of 'Cougar Town' **Courteney Cox Slip Slidin' Away On 'Cougar Town'

Renee Zellweger May Have Agreed To A Third Bridget Jones Film
published: 2011-03-01 10:05:57 Author: Katey Rich
When the Weinstein Company teamed up with their old studio Miramax at the end of last year and announced plans to produce sequels to some of Miramax's greatest hits, Bridget Jones's Diary was one of the titles mentioned with potential. Of course the movie has already had a sequel, 2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and while one of the stars (Renee Zellweger) can't seem to catch a career break these days, the other (Colin Firth) is a newly minted Oscar winner, and neither seem all that likely to return to the material. As for Hugh Grant, hey, who knows what he's going to do.

And yet, UK tabloid The Sun reports that Zellweger has agreed to star in a third film, so long as she doesn't have to put on weight as she did for the first two. And even Firth would be in-- he apparently told the BBC last month that it "could be quite fun" to return to Bridget, Mark and Daniel now that they're all getting older. The reported plot for the film would have Bridget pregnant, and not sure whether the father is Firth's or Grant's character. Given that the second film ended with Bridget accepting Mark's proposal I'm not sure how they'll work that twist out, but when a sequel is this brazenly desperate, these things can always be managed.

It's easy to see why Zellweger would want to return to one of her career high points, given that she hasn't had anything approximating a hit since 2005's Cinderella Man, but that's pretty much the only reason I can think of for this movie to exist. Then again, we're dealing with a UK tabloid here, publications notorious for publishing false rumors. But sadly, this sequel seems a lot more likely than a lot of the stuff they've been known to publish. This might be something we have to deal with after all.

UPDATED: Four Of The ’47 Ronin’ Have Been Cast; Actors Include Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano
Posted on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 by Germain Lussier

[UPDATE: This original story has been updated with an official press release, plot description, character names and high resolution cast photo. Check it all out after the jump.]
With Keanu Reeves set to star in Carl Erik Rinsch‘s 47 Ronin, by my math, still leaves about 46 Ronin to be cast. The 3D production is heating up and Variety is reporting that four more roles have been cast. Japanese actors Tadanobu Asano, Kou Shibasaki, Rinko Kikuchi and Hiroyuki Sanada have all joined the film.
Asano is familiar to film geeks for his roles in Ichi the Killer, Mongol and Zatoichi among many others, plus he’s got a two big movies coming up, Thor and Battleship. Shibasaki was in Go, Battle Royale and the original One Missed Call. Kikuchi is known to American audiences from her leading roles in Babel and The Brothers Bloom and Sanada is best known for roles in The Last Samuari, Sunshine and as Dogen in the final season of Lost. Ken Watanabe was rumored to be a part of the film, but that is still just a rumor.
Read more about Rinsch’s 47 Ronin, scheduled for release Thanksgiving 2012, and this casting after the jump.
Thanks to Variety for providing these casting announcements.
47 Ronin is a well-known story. Extremely well-known. According to the IMDB, there are no less than 14 films who have shared this title at some point during their production. Here’s how Peter described the film a few months ago:
Based on a true 18th Century Japanese story, the film follows a band of samurai swordsmen who are shamed into becoming the titular ronin — a Japanese word meaning lordless samurai, and must avenge the death of their master. The construct a huge plan and sacrifice everything to see it through.
And screenwriter Chris Morgan, who wrote the last three Fast and Furious films as well as Wanted, described the film as a “great, Gladiator-esque, 300-like big action movie with samurai and ninja.”
All that said, casting well-respected and talented Japanese actors such as these would certainly make it seem like this project is headed in the right direction. While some are more recognizable than others, each already had a pretty impressive Hollywood resume that will only be bolstered by this film. I’m suddenly much more excited about 47 Ronin.
