Keanu Reeves Talks Henry’s Crime on Late Night
April 6th, 2011 | Posted by Nezi
LateNight-4-5-11-KeanuReeves-JimmyFallon[1].jpg

Last night, actor Keanu Reeves dropped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Reeves was there to promote his latest film, the indie flick Henry’s Crime. First the two discussed his musical endeavors of the past, and Jimmy then asked him about the Bill & Ted 3 rumors. When Keanu had mentioned the possibility of another Bill & Ted movie in an interview last year, everyone apparently assumed he was joking – but he says they now have writers working on a script. Whoa! The two then went on to talk about the new film, Henry’s Crime.

In Henry’s Crime, Keanu Reeves plays Henry, a tollbooth worker with no big dreams. When he unwittingly becomes the getaway driver in a bank robbery and is sent to prison, he meets an old con named Max (James Caan), who tells Henry he needs to find a dream. When Henry gets of out prison, he decides his dream is to rob the bank that he was already sent to prison for robbing. As part of the plan he hatches, Henry joins the cast of “The Cherry Orchard” to gain access to the tunnel that runs from the theater across the street to the bank. He then proceeds to fall for the leading lady (Vera Farmiga). Henry’s Crime was directed by Malcolm Venville.
The Henry’s Crime premiere was held on Monday night in New York City. Keanu Reeves, James Caan, and Vera Farmiga all made it out to the event. Since the photo agency I use apparently didn’t bother to send anyone for the little indie film – boo!, you can go see photos from the premiere, HERE.

Keanu has his critics, but I don’t think you can argue much against someone who has brought in over $2 billion at the box office. The handsome actor, who weaves seamlessly between huge blockbusters and small indie films, is one of the most bankable actors out there. And, he has given us several iconic film characters over the years – from Ted in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and it’s sequel, to bad-ass Jack from Speed, to Neo in the genre-changing sci-fi flick, The Matrix. I loved him in Constantine as well. Such an underrated comic book -turned- action movie. He was also terrific, along with Robert Downey, Jr. and Woody Harrelson, in Richard Linklater’s, A Scanner Darkly. So, a turn as a wannabe bank robber hiding out as a theater actor should be an interesting role for Reeves. Plus, Henry’s Crime has legendary actor James Caan as a guy who wants to go back to prison. Yep, I definitely want to check this one out.

Henry’s Crime opens in New York City this weekend, but will hit up a few other cities in the coming weeks. For the list of cities scheduled so far, you can check out the Official Henry’s Crime website, HERE.

**New Trailers for HENRY’S CRIME, FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS, LARRY CROWNE and THE BEAVER

3 Clips from Jodie Foster’s THE BEAVER Starring Mel Gibson
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: March 16th, 2011
With director Jodie Foster’s The Beaver world premiering at SXSW tonight, Summit Entertainment has released the first three clips. Starring Mel Gibson as a man who starts to treat a beaver hand puppet as a living creature after he begins to suffer from depression, The Beaver has been repeatedly delayed due to Gibson’s controversial behavior. However, if the film plays well at SXSW tonight, perhaps the delay will help Summit at the box office.

While I know Gibson has a lot of issues and some of the things that he’s done and said are crazy, I’ve always been a fan of his work and I’m going to try and keep his professional and private life separate. But I’m probably in the minority. Hit the jump for the clips. The Beaver also stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone).

First Trailer for LARRY CROWNE; Directed by and Starring Tom Hanks
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: March 16th, 2011

Universal has released the first trailer for Larry Crowne. Directed by and starring Tom Hanks, the story centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts). Larry Crowne is the first film Hanks has directed since 1996’s That Thing You Do, and he co-wrote the script with Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). While the story seems pretty simple, Hanks has proven himself behind the camera and people love the guy. What I’m trying to say is…I’m pretty sure Larry Crowne is going to be a big hit for Universal. Check out the trailer, synopsis and new images after the jump:

New Trailer for FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS

A new green band trailer for Friends with Benefits has been released. Directed and co-written by Will Gluck (Easy A), the romantic comedy stars Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Richard Jenkins, and Patricia Clarkson. As you might expect, the film tells the story of two friends (Timberlake and Kunis) who decide to give no-strings-attached-coitus the old college try. The trailer is quite funny and definitely worth checking out. Also, after The Social Network, hosting some great episodes of Saturday Night Live, and looking really funny in this trailer, I think Timberlake should move full time into making movies. At least I hope he does. Friends with Benefits is slated to hit theaters on July 22nd, 2011.

Trailer for HENRY’S CRIME Starring Keanu Reeves
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 16th, 2011

Moving Pictures has released a trailer for Henry’s Crime, a heist comedy starring Keanu Reeves, Vera Farmiga, and James Caan. While it’s basically the same trailer that leaked online back in January, we never posted it and now it’s in higher quality.

The story centers on a nice guy (Reeves) who goes to jail for a bank robbery he didn’t commit. Now released from prison, he enlists his old cellmate (Caan) to rob the bank for real this time. The film looks cute and it’s nice to see Reeves in an intentional comedy. Hit the jump to check out the trailer and click here for Steve’s interview with Reeves from when the film played back at the Toronto Film Festival. Henry’s Crime opens April 8th.

Click over to Apple to see the trailer in HD.
Here’s the official synopsis for Henry’s Crime:

Working the night shift as a toll collector on a lonely stretch of highway in Buffalo, New York, Henry is a man seemingly without ambition, dreams or purpose; a man sleepwalking his way through life. He gets his wakeup call early one morning when he becomes an unwitting participant in an ill-conceived bank heist. Rather than give up the names of the real culprits, Henry takes the fall and goes to jail. There, he meets the irrepressible Max , a con man who’s grown far too comfortable with the familiarity and security of his ‘idyllic’ life behind bars, but one who also helps plant an idea in Henry’s mind which will change his life forever: for a man to find his purpose, he must first have a dream. Upon his release one year later, Henry finds his purpose. Having done the time, he decides he may as well do the crime. Discovering a long forgotten bootlegger’s tunnel which runs from the very same bank to a theater across the alleyway, he convinces the reluctant Max to file for his long overdue parole — and then recruits his former cellmate to help stage a robbery. Their plan is simple: by infiltrating the theater and its current production of Chekhov’s, The Cherry Orchard, the unlikely duo will buy just enough time to dig their way to the adjacent bank vault and drive off with their loot. Unfortunately that plan also includes Henry taking the lead role in the play, where he finds himself slowly falling for the production’s mercurial leading lady, Julie.

**Henry's Crime Poster: Act In A Play, Execute A Heist **Keira Knightley Joins Syfy's Mini 'Neverland' **Wes Bentley, Emily Wickersham And Jennifer Carpenter Join Amanda Seyfried Thriller Gone **Ray Stevenson May Return for "Punisher: War Zone" Sequel **Cameron Diaz's New "Bad Teacher" Trailer **"Doom" Remake in the Works

Henry's Crime Poster: Act In A Play, Execute A Heist
published: 2011-03-09 06:35:08 Author: Katey Rich

The cast alone of Henry's Crime makes it an easy sell: Keanu Reeves, Vera Farmiga and James Caan, starring in a bank-heist comedy, with backup from Judy Greer, Peter Stormare and Fisher Stevens? No arm-twisting needed there. The movie also premiered last fall at the Toronto Film Festival, which means at least a few smart people already gave it their stamp of approval, and the plot involves Reeves's character executing a bank heist by taking the lead role in a performance of The Cherry Orchard.

Amazingly enough, a lot of that manages to come across in the poster, which premiered at Cinematical and you can see below. You've got the three leads, the theater and the bank, and some helpfully scrawled instructions that point to the heist. Unfortunately there's also the matter of a howler of a tagline: "The real crime is not committing to your dreams." That seems to point directly at some kind of sappy ending in which Henry and everybody else realize their true purpose in life, which is not at all the kind of thing that gets you pumped for a comedy heist thriller.

Beyond that, though, everything's looking good. Henry's Crime opens in New York April 8 and will expand wider the week after.

Wes Bentley, Emily Wickersham And Jennifer Carpenter Join Amanda Seyfried Thriller Gone
published: 2011-03-09 07:18:20 Author: Katey Rich
Amanda Seyfried will be playing a young woman in some kind of peril this weekend, as she stars in the Catherine Hardwicke-directed fairy tale revamp Red Riding Hood. She'll be at it again at some point next year in Now the sci-fi thriller also starring Justin Timberlake. And she'll be doing it one more time in the thriller Gone, as a young woman hunting down the kidnapper who attacked her years earlier and who has now targeted her sister. That film starts shooting in April, and a supporting cast has been added to get things moving forward.

According to Variety Emily Wickersham, Jennifer Carpenter and Wes Bentley have all been added to the cast; the article doesn't say who they'll be playing, but it seems a fair guess that Wickersham could play the kidnapped sister, and Bentley, having perfected the creepy guy roles over the years, would be a fair guess for the abductor. Though Carpenter is a regular on Dexter and Wickersham appeared in I Am Number Four, none of them are as famous as Seyfried, which suggests this will be a real starring vehicle for the actress. Summit will be distributing the film, which seems perfect for the kind of spring spot that Red Riding Hood is occupying this year.

Keira Knightley Joins Syfy's Mini 'Neverland'
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Wednesday March 9, 2011
EXCLUSIVE: In her U.S. television debut, Keira Knightley has joined the cast of Syfy’s four-hour miniseries Neverland as the voice of Tinker Bell.

On live-action project, a prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan, the Oscar-nominated actress joins Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, Raoul Trujillo and Charlie Rowe. Written and directed by Nick Willing, Neverland centers on Peter (Rowe) who, along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a magical orb that transports them to another world - Neverland. Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr. Fludd (Dance) and inhabited by a colony of tree spirits led by Tinker Bell (Knightley), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time. These include power-mad Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and her band of 18th century pirates who search for the answer to eternal youth, a secret guarded by a Holy Man (Trujillo). As the fight to save this strange and beautiful world escalates, Peter and his crew consider that growing old somewhere in time could be less important than growing up -- right here in their new home called Neverland.

Knightley will record her role this spring. Neverland, produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films, Syfy and Sky Movies HD and distributed by RHI Entertainment, will air on Syfy in December.

'Henry's Crime' Poster Premiere: Keanu Reeves, Bank Robber
.By Peter Hall (Subscribe to Peter Hall's posts)
Posted Mar 8th 2011 5:45PM

Keanu Reeves doesn't exclusively star in big-budget sci-fi flicks. Every now and then he takes a break from movies requiring a fleet of stuntmen to act in smaller, more intimate stories. One such film is 'Henry's Crime' and Cinematical is happy to bring you its poster premiere (check it out in full below).

Directed by Malcom Venville ('44 Inch Chest'), 'Henry's Crime' is a bank-heist comedy co-starring Vera Farmiga, James Caan, Judy Greer, Peter Stormare and Fisher Stevens. Moving Pictures Film and TV will be opening the film April 8 in New York before expanding around the country on April 15. As for the film's plot specifics, the official press release says it best:
Working the night shift as a toll collector on a lonely stretch of highway in Buffalo, New York, Henry (KEANU REEVES) is a man seemingly without ambition, dreams or purpose; a man sleepwalking his way through life. He gets his wakeup call early one morning when he becomes an unwitting participant in an ill-conceived bank heist.

Rather than give up the names of the real culprits, Henry takes the fall and goes to jail. There, he meets the irrepressible Max (JAMES CAAN), a con man who's grown far too comfortable with the familiarity and security of his 'idyllic' life behind bars, but one who also helps plant an idea in Henry's mind which will change his life forever: for a man to find his purpose, he must first have a dream.

Upon his release one year later, Henry finds his purpose. Having done the time, he decides he may as well do the crime. Discovering a long forgotten bootlegger's tunnel which runs from the very same bank to a theater across the alleyway, he convinces the reluctant Max to file for his long overdue parole -- and then recruits his former cellmate to help stage a robbery.

Their plan is simple: by infiltrating the theater and its current production of Chekhov's, The Cherry Orchard, the unlikely duo will buy just enough time to dig their way to the adjacent bank vault and drive off with their loot. Unfortunately that plan also includes Henry taking the lead role in the play, where he finds himself slowly falling for the production's mercurial leading lady, Julie (VERA FARMIGA).

Sylvester Stallone May Not Direct The Expendables 2
published: 2011-03-08 19:50:06 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Ever since The Expendables became a hit at the box office last August, fans have been wondering about the sequel, specifically who would be added to the cast. But while we still don't know if Jean-Claude Van Damme or Chuck Norris will be joining the crew, one space just opened up: the director's chair.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that after both helming and starring in the 2010 summer blockbuster, Sylvester Stallone has started taking meetings with other directors. Also unlike the first film, Stallone wasn't involved with the writing process, instead leaving it to David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Curious George, In The Army Now). The story comes from an unnamed source that was "briefed on the project but was not authorized to speak about it publicly." Millennium Films, the company behind the film, declined to comment.

Should this story be true you can expect a lot of hands to shoot up into the air volunteering for the gig. The first film made nearly $275 million at the global box office and the sequel, barring any major malfunctions, stands to make even more. Any young director would love to have The Expendables 2 on their resume.

Miles Fisher Added To The Cast Of Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar
published: 2011-03-08 18:17:43 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Before I started writing for Cinema Blend I was one of those unlucky college students that graduated just around the time that the economy imploded. An out of work filmophile with a bachelors in journalism, I decided to start up my own film news site with a friend of mine. The first post I wrote was about a music video for a cover of the song "This Must Be The Place" by The Talking Heads. Performed by a guy named Miles Fisher, the video was an awesome tribute to Mary Harron's film American Psycho. Who knew that a year and a half later that same guy would be playing in a Clint Eastwood movie.

Deadline reports that Fisher - son of Richard W. Fisher, the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas - has been cast in Eastwood's Hoover biopic J. Edgar.

First Poster For Bad Teacher Has A Hangover
published: 2011-03-08 16:12:12 Author: Eric Eisenberg

When the trailer for Bad Teacher came out last month, I was incredibly surprised. If the last 17 years have taught me anything it's that I rarely find Cameron Diaz to be funny, but there I was, sitting at my computer laughing at a trailer for a movie starring the same actress that starred in What Happens In Vegas and The Sweetest Thing. As a result, my expectations are high, but unfortunately they aren't really bolstered by the movie's first poster.

JustJared has premiered the first one-sheet for the film and while it certainly isn't the worst thing in the world, it isn't that great either. The image is taken directly from the trailer, and the post-it note on the apple is a fairly lame gag. Overall, though, I think I know what the biggest problem with this poster is: not enough Jason Segel.

Check out the poster below or see it full size over at JustJared.

UPDATE: Colin Firth And Nicole Kidman May Be In For Dracula Reworking Stoker
published: 2011-03-08 14:32:15 Author: Mack Rawden
UPDATE: As some of our astute commenters have pointed out, The News of The World got their facts wrong. Wentworth Miller has previously said in interviews - such as this one with Yahoo that the movie is not about vampires in the sense that they have fangs and suck blood. Instead, Miller says that "it is a thriller and it is about an individual who preys on the innocent."

Well, this is a surprise. People who win Oscars don't typically follow their performances up with a trek into the frequently maligned world of horror, but Colin Firth has never really been a man who does what's expected. Reportedly, The King's Speech star has just boarded a re-working of Dracula entitled Stoker.

News Of The World was all over this yesterday, but apparently, The Los Angeles Times beat everyone to the punch like a month ago. Sometimes news travels slowly, even with the Internet. Here are the facts, as updated, altered and recirculated in the last three weeks: Ridley Scott will produce, Chan Wook Park will direct, and Firth will be joined by a few other big names with the undead fever. The much talked about Mia Wasikowska will play India Stoker with Nicole Kidman possibly on board to play her mother. Could we finally be getting a horror movie that could compete alongside Silence Of The Lambs in terms of acting? Looks like it. As a horror fan, I'm certainly a bit more excited for this than the average cash grab vampire flick.

The script was written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller under a pseudonym. It made the Black List for best unproduced screenplays, which probably is a pretty good indication why so many big names are interested. It's said to focus on the Wasikowska character as she's sent reeling from the death of her father and the emergence of a strange uncle. John Candy's already corned the market on ridiculous uncles, but something tells me fans might make an exception for Colin Firth.

Keanu Reeves - Keanu Reeves Reveals Plans For Matrix Four And Five

24 January 2011
The fourth and fifth sequels to 'The Matrix' may be shot in 3D, with creators Andy and Larry Wachowski reportedly keen to ''truly revolutionise'' the action movie genre.

Keanu Reeves has revealed plans are underway for two more sequels to 'The Matrix'.
The actor - who appears as Neo in the first three movies of the sci-fi action drama - hinted he and the writers of the franchise, Andy and Larry Wachowski, have discussed the possibility of shooting the two new movies in 3D and are reportedly seeking further advice from 'Avatar' creator James Cameron.
However, the Wachowskis are said to be keen to deliver something which has "never been seen" in the movie world and would "truly transform" the action movie genre.
Hearing Keanu commenting during a key note speech at the London School of Performing Arts, a reporter for Ain't It Cool News said: "They have completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of 'The Matrix' as Neo.
"Keanu says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. He stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title 'The Matrix' and he swears this time that the treatment will truly transform the action genre like the first movie."
However, according to the reporter, the Wachowskis are looking to complete their current work on new movie 'Cloud Atlas' before discussing the possibility of adding to 'The Matrix' series.

Keanu Reeves hints The Matrix 4 and 5

Simon Brew

Could we be getting a new pair of Matrix sequels? Keanu Reeves apparently says so, with the Wachowskis reportedly even chatting to James Cameron about The Matrix 4 and 5…

For The Matrix trilogy never came close to matching the inventiveness, quality and sheer entertainment of the original with anything that followed, and once the back-to-back follow-ups had been and gone, it seemed that few had the inclination to give the Wachowski Brothers any more money to make any more.

Yet, that day may yet happen.
At an event in London to promote his newly released movie, Henry's Crime, Keanu Reeves - according to a report at AintItCool - said that "he met the Wachowskis (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the matrix as Neo".
The report continues, suggesting that the Wachowskis had met up with James Cameron, "to discuss the pros and cons of 3D", and "are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again".
Reeves, seemingly acknowledging the problems with The Matrix sequels, also apparently said that "he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie".
That's a fair amount to digest.
Firstly, it should be noted that this is a pinch-of-salt piece at the moment. There's not a whisper of official confirmation, nor have we heard from anyone else at the event where Reeves was reported to utter all of the above.
If it is true, though, then a few things. Firstly, appreciating that it's in vogue to slam 3D at every opportunity, a deployment of the technology in the selective manner of Tron: Legacy might actually serve a Matrix sequel well.
Secondly, why two films? Didn't The Matrix franchise (along with the Pirates Of The Caribbean saga) go off the rails when the people behind it were trying to juggle two massive back-to-back productions?
And thirdly, the Wachowskis. Let's assume that it is the Wachowski Brothers that are being referred to. Since Bound and The Matrix in the 1990s, the problem here is that they've not made a compelling film. We quite enjoyed Speed Racer, and it was visually brilliant, but a proper, interesting three-act movie it was not.
Do the Wachowski Brothers have it in them to make a groundbreaking movie again? Most are lucky to manage to do so once in their lives. We'd be happily surprised if they could do it again.
The full report can be found at AICN here, and we'll be fascinated to read what you make of all of this in the comments below...

Keanu Reeves On For The Matrix 4 and 5 in 3D?
Keanu Reeves and The Wachowskis are allegedly interested in making two new 3D Matrix sequels.

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Reeves recently made comments during a key note speech at the London School of Performing Arts that not only hints at The Matrix 4 and 5, but proves that the wheels are already in motion.

Their informant said that Reeves admitted he had recently met with the franchise's creators The Wachowskis over the festive period, who introduced him to a new two-film treatment that "would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo."

If that isn't enough to get you dusting off your full body leather coat and black shades, they also said that they would be getting in touch with James Cameron to discuss making the movies in 3D.

Now, we can't confirm the informant's claims, but with none of the cast or crew really having found fame since the last Matrix (Speed Racer and The Day The Earth Stood Still proving their biggest hits to date), it's not completely beyond the realms of imagination.

Keanu Reeves talks more Matrix sequels and other projects

by Jack on January 24, 2011

Harry at AICN has received a report from someone who attended a keynote speech at the London School of Performing Arts – at which Keanu Reeves was guest of honour. Presuming truthfulness behind the report, Keanu Reeves talked about a potential Bill & Ted 3, more Matrix sequels, and other projects that he could potentially be involved with. Read more after the break.
Keanu supposedly mentioned four projects; I’ll summarise the important stuff here, but if you want to read “El-Nino”‘s full report, you can hit the Ain’t It Cool link above.
- Reeves said he’s 2 months into a 6 month training programme for a hard R-rated 3D samurai film (47 Ronin) which will feature “great martial art set pieces.”
- Apparently he is “committed” to a third entry in the Bill & Ted franchise, but only spoke about it as a possibility. If you ask me, they’ve gotta leave all these ’80s and early ’90s films alone; it’s just becoming too much. Same goes for Ghostbusters. Let it be.
- This is probably the biggest part of the whole thing: Reeves supposedly met with the Wachowskis to discuss a two-film script treatment which would revisit the universe of The Matrix. The new films are said to want to “revolutionise” the action genre again and Keanu also wants to deliver a movie “worthy” of The Matrix title. According to El-Nino, the Wachowskis also met with James Cameron to discuss producing the new films in 3D.
- Reeves apparently said that the Wachowskis sold their modern, futuristic take on the Robin Hood tale (titled Hood) to Warner Bros. for $5 million, and that it will have the same impact visually and technically that Terminator 2 did back in 1991. Will Smith is most likely for the lead role at the moment.
Take this (well, The Matrix bit) with a grain of salt at the moment, I guess.
The first Matrix film was absolutely fantastic; its two sequels weren’t able to keep up though, and it seems like a fourth and fifth film could just be dragging it out. The Robin Hood story has kinda been done to death, but I’m just hoping to see any sort of good sci-fi film from the Wachowskis, who have only directed 2008′s Speed Racer since The Matrix Revolutions in 2003. Their next film will be an adaptation of the novel Cloud Atlas.
Which of these projects are you guys enthusiastic about, if any?
