Trailer: "The Silent House" Horror Film, Made in One Continuous Shot
Posted: March 27th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Today we have the trailer for the Uruguayan horror movie "La Casa Muda (The Silent House)," which was filmed in one single continuous 78-minute shot. Check it out below.

Plot: The story focuses on Laura, who, second by second, intends to leave a house which hides an obscure secret. Laura and her father, Wilson, settle down in a cottage they have to renew since its owner will soon put the house up for sale. They intend to spend the night there and make the repairs the following morning. Everything seems to go smoothly until Laura hears a sound from outside that gets louder and louder on the upper floor of the house. Wilson goes up to see what is going on while she remains downstairs on her own, waiting for her father to come down.

"The Silent House" has played at several film festivals and is now ready to be released in the UK on April 8th. And an American remake has already been made. It recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with Elizabeth Olsen (sister the Olsen twins) in the lead.

7 Clips for YOUR HIGHNESS Starring Danny McBride and James Franco
by Matt Goldberg Posted:March 26th, 2011
Universal has released 7 clips for their upcoming hard-R comedy Your Highness. The film stars Danny McBride as a lazy prince who is forced to go on a quest with his brother (James Franco) to rescue his brother’s fiancée (Zooey Deschanel) from an evil wizard (Justin Theroux). I haven’t seen the film yet but I’ve heard it’s hilarious and that folks are amazed with what director David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and writers McBride and Ben Best (Eastbound & Down) got away with.

Hit the jump to check out the clips. The film also stars Natalie Portman, Rasmus Hardiker, Toby Jones, Charles Dance, and Damian Lewis. Your Highness opens April 8th.

Patrick Wilson Provides An Update On Brett Rickaby's The Book Of Matthew
published: 2011-03-26 16:34:26 Author: Perri Nemiroff
After having seen Patrick Wilson in Joel Schumacher’s The Phantom of the Opera, it makes sense for him to have done some musical work, but Brett Rickaby? You might know Rickaby from last year’s The Crazies and, if you’re bold enough, you’ve already caught him in his latest creeper, Bereavement. Well, playing super scary isn’t the only thing this guy’s good at. With years of experience under his belt, Rickaby is ready to take a stab at writing, directing and producing. (No pun intended.)

Rickaby’s busy working on a film based on a true personal story-- and a musical-- called The Book of Matthew. Yes, the film has an IMDb page, but it’s got rumor written all over it – literally. Amongst the list of rumored stars is Wilson, so, of course, while chatting with Wilson about his upcoming film, Insidious, I had to ask about the status of The Book of Matthew.

Wilson was thrilled to recall his time on the road with Rickaby while working on a traveling musical 15 years back, but when it came to The Book of Matthew, unfortunately all Wilson could say in terms of a production update is that it’s just “so hard to get independent movies made.” On the bright side, Wilson was able to flesh out the film’s plot quite a bit. The movie comes from a play Rickaby penned which was “his own story of getting caught up in a religious sect when he was in college and him trying to get out.” Sounds like this could really be something fresh and interesting, so hopefully Rickaby will find the resources he needs to turn this one into a reality.

Hear more about The Book of Matthew in the clip below and be sure to keep an eye out for our full interview with Wilson on Insidious next week.

Cobie Smulders Talks S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Maria Hill in the Avengers

Cobie Smulders will don a catsuit for The AvengersIn February, How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders was confirmed for the role of S.H.E.I.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers. She will be playing sidekick to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.

Today, she has finally come forward to speak a bit about the role, revealing that she will begin shooting soon, and that she will be wearing a catsuit in the upcoming Joss Whedon directed superhero ensemble.

"We start in April, which is like... tomorrow. I literally leave here and I go to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to shoot some scenes in a catsuit. I've tried on portions of the catsuit [and] I've seen conceptual drawings of what they want it to be. It's fascinating to me. I feel like wardrobe becomes very creative on these types of movies because they literally spend weeks designing just the pants or the emblem. It's such an all-consuming process, so I'm excited to see how it all turns out."

The Avengers comes to theaters May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Saoirse Ronan Refuses to Confirm Role in The Hobbit

Saoirse Ronan has not been confirmed for The HobbitThe Hobbit is currently in production in New Zealand, with Peter Jackson directing this two-part prequel. Back in January, we reported that young actress Saoirse Ronan had joined the cast, although it seems she is still not confirmed for the Middle Earth saga. Here's what she recently had to say below.

"That's not confirmed. I would love to do it. It would be great to go there, and if they ask me I would say yes."

The actress, who previously worked with director Peter Jackson on The Lovely Bones, was reportedly circling the role of Itaril. There is speculation that her involvement in The Hobbit will not be announced until her new movie Hanna hits theaters on April 8, in a bid to drum up some publicity for that much smaller film.

to read the interview piece with Saoirse Ronan.

The Hobbit comes to theaters November 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

TV Casting: Cary Elwes Joins NBC’s WONDER WOMAN; Jim Caviezel Nabs Lead in J.J. Abrams and Jonah Nolan Pilot PERSON OF INTEREST for CBS

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: March 4th, 2011

It is definitely pilot season. Casting agents are working furiously to fill out the casts of the countless TV pilots getting ready to go into production, and today two high profile projects added castmembers. Cary Elwes has joined the cast of David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot for NBC. Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) is set to star in the update which finds Diana Price balancing life as a corporate executive and a crime fighter. Deadline reports that Elwes will play the loyal and trustworthy CEO of the company she works for. Elizabeth Hurley was added to the cast yesterday as the villain (she plays the head of a rival pharmaceutical company).
Hit the jump for news on Jim Caviezel landing the lead in the J.J. Abrams/Jonah Nolan pilot Person of Interest.

CBS Renews HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER for Two More Seasons

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: March 5th, 2011

how_i_met_your_mother_slice
Following The Big Bang Theory’s move to Thursdays and the uncertain future of Two and a Half Men, the dominance of CBS’ Monday comedy block is in jeopardy.  The Live Feed reports the network has locked in reliable performer How I Met Your Mother, renewing the sitcom for two more seasons.  How I Met Your Mother is currently in the middle of its sixth season; the renewal promises a season eight that would keep the show on the air through the end of 2013.
The five stars — Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, Allison Hanygan, Neil Patrick Harris — are each contracted through season eight.  With his budding movie career, Segel has implied intent to leave at the end of his contract.  Radnor reiterated in a recent interview: “Right now, I think everyone is on the same page, including the writers, to finish out the next two seasons, after this.”  The high-concept hook (“Who is the mother?”) always directed HIMYM to the end of its story, a strategy which is not best served by the indefinite timeline of an American TV series.  I’ll be sad to see it go, but I am excited by the prospect that creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays can plan the show around this end date.

Will Smith Attached to Star in JOE, a Modern Version of the Biblical Story of Job from THE FIGHTER Writers; David O. Russell Might Direct
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: February 27th, 2011
We are still over a year away from the May 25, 2012 release of Men in Black III, the official end to Will Smith’s three-and-a-half year hiatus from movies following Seven Pounds. Smith is attached to about a dozen projects that could be his next: an Annie remake with daughter Willow, the epic-sounding The City That Sailed (we were this close), the Wachowski Robin Hood re-imagining Hood. Two other candidates suggest his Smith has kept his nose in the Good Book. There’s The Legend of Cain, a vampiric take on the story of Cain and Abel, and Joe, a modern version of the harrowing tale of Job.

Screenwriting team Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) sold Joe to Sony Pictures and Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment; Smith is attached to star. In a recent interview, Tamasy spoke about their approach to updating the Biblical story, and revealed the studio wants to sign The Fighter director David O. Russell to helm Joe. Mark Ruffalo Says the Motion Capture Hulk in THE AVENGERS Looks Just Like Him
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: February 27th, 2011
We were excited to hear that Mark Ruffalo will act out the larger, greener Hulk thanks to the wonders of motion capture. That fact was thrown into some doubt at the hint of a mo-cap audition process, but Ruffalo reiterated last night at the Independent Spirit Awards that he is heavily involved with the process:

“[It looks] just like me. We’re going out of our way. First of all, I’ll be playing it. I’ll be the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk. And so all the features are mine — they’re just really big.”

Ruffalo also praises the script, which combines the comedy and pathos that fall “right in [writer/director] Joss Wheedon’s wheelhouse.” He seems positively giddy about shooting The Avengers, which also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders. Watch the video after the jump.

Daniel Day-Lewis Also in Talks for "Superman"
Posted: February 27th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Just recently it was reported that director Zack Snyder is considering Viggo Mortensen for the role of the villainous General Zod in the upcoming "Superman" reboot.

Moviehole has now learned that Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) is in talks for an unspecified role in the movie. The site assumes that the role is also for Zod, which means that Snyder may have to decide between Mortensen and Day-Lewis.

As previously reported, Kevin Costner is up for the role of Jonathan Kent. But despite all this casting news, the actors have yet to meet with either Snyder or producer Christopher Nolan.

Matt Damon Was Also Offered "Daredevil" Lead
Posted: February 27th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We just heard Guy Pearce reveal that he was offered the chance to play the title character in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie. The actor turned down the role and Ben Affleck ended up taking it.

Now comes word that Matt Damon was also offered to play Daredevil and he also turned it down, mostly because of director Mark Steven Johnson. "I would have done 'Daredevil,'" he told DigitalSpy. "Ben and I loved that comic book but I just didn't quite believe in the script or the director at the time."

Damon went on to say that people like to compare his and Affleck's careers. "The reality is that if Michael Bay had offered me 'Armageddon' when 'Good Will Hunting' was in the can, which was when Ben got offered the role, I would have taken it too," said Damon. "I would have taken any job that any director offered me at that point. And if Ben had been offered 'Saving Private Ryan' he would have done it, but suddenly I became the serious one. It's all bullsh*t."

THE BEAVER Pushed Back to May 6 Limited Release; Opens Wide May 20

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 7th, 2011

I can hardly wait to see The Beaver, but it looks like I’ll have to.  This bizarre Mel Gibson movie will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in early March, and was originally scheduled for limited release March 23 followed by wide release starting April 8.  The SXSW premiere remains intact, but Summit Entertainment has delayed the limited release until May 6, with plans to open The Beaver wide May 20.
According to THR, there are two primary reasons for the delay.  Director/star Jodie Foster is shooting Roman Polanski’s God of Carnage until mid-March, and the new release date frees her up to work the promotional circuit.  Secondly, the studio hopes to capitalize on two months worth of good buzz from SXSW.  Hit the jump to read the official synopsis for The Beaver, which stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) alongside Gibson and Foster.

Lasse Hallstrom to Direct THE HYPNOTIST

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 7th, 2011

Lasse Hallström will return to the Swedish cinema after more than two decades to direct The Hypnotist, an adaptation of the best selling crime novel by Lars Kepler.  The Hypnotist is the first in a series of novels revolving around Detective Joona Linna, which rank just below Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy (i.e The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels) on the list of Sweden’s most successful crime novels worldwide.  Svensk Filmindustri and Sonet Film hope The Hypnotist will launch a film franchise of similiar stature.  According to THR, The Hypnotist will shoot this winter for a planned 2012 release.
Hallström recently wrapped production an adaptation Salmon Fishing in Yemen which stars Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor, and Kristin Scott Thomas.  Hit the jump for the official synopsis of Kepler’s The Hypnotist.

Confirmed: Cobie Smulders Cast in THE AVENGERS

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 7th, 2011

cobie-smulders-slice
We heard over the weekend that Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) was close to landing the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive director Maria Hill in The Avengers, intended as a sidekick of sorts for Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.  Variety confirms that Smulders is wrapping up a deal with Marvel to appear as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in up to nine films.  The character’s name isn’t specified, but the bio — “Character would work closely with Jackson’s Nick Fury, and eventually becomes the head of the espionage and law enforcement group” — sounds very similar to that of Ms. Hill.
I love Smulders on HIMYM — partly because Cobie Smulders is an awesome name, but mostly because of her endless charisma.  I don’t know how big the role will actually be, but I’m excited to see Smulders in a film of this size.  Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner star in The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon and scheduled for release on May 4, 2012.  Hit the jump for a brief character bio on Maria Hill.

Cobie Smulders Near a Deal to Play Maria Hill in THE AVENGERS

by Jeff Ames    Posted: February 5th, 2011

Earlier this week, Samuel L. Jackson confirmed his involvement in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. The actor also stated that he was testing with five female actresses jostling for the role of his new sidekick (since, apparently, Scarlett Johansson is too big to be a sidekick). Deadline reports that TV star Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) is close to landing the role of SHIELD executive director Maria Hill, and that a deal could be done long before we’ve gotten over our Super Bowl XLV hangovers.
If Smulders and Marvel close the deal, she would join Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johansson in The Avengers.  Hit the jump for more on Maria Hill.
