Some new set images have emerged from the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. We got our first official look at Cohen in the titular role last week, and today’s set photos show that we’re in store for another very crazy character, as they capture him competing in a track race while utilizing a pistol to ensure that he’s the winner. The comedy “tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein.”
Hit the jump to check out the images. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno), the film also stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas.  The Dictator is set to open on May 11, 2012.  http://collider.com/dictator-set-photos-sacha-baron-cohen/96776/

Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin to Star in Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 16th, 2011

It looks like Jason Reitman is moving along with his next film. EW reports that Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin will play the leads in Reitman’s adaptation of Joyce Manard’s novel Labor Day. The book tells the story of a lonely mother whose 13-year-old son convinces her to take in a drifter who turns out to be a convicted murderer. Reitman wrote the screenplay and will direct the drama, which is set to start shooting in New England in 2012.
I was a huge fan of the writer/director’s Up in the Air, and Winslet and Brolin are both phenomenal actors, so it’s safe to say I’m looking forward to this one. Reitman is currently busy in post-production on Young Adult, a film he directed from a script by his Juno companion Diablo Cody. Young Adult stars Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt, and Paramount is set to distribute.  Brolin was initially interested in that film, but apparently scheduling couldn’t be worked out. Now it looks like he’ll get his chance to work with Reitman after all. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of Maynard’s novel. http://collider.com/kate-winslet-josh-brolin-labor-day/96769/

Paul Bettany Up for Role of Javert Opposite Hugh Jackman in LES MISERABLES; Chelsea Handler Joins Josh Schwartz’s FUN SIZE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 16th, 2011

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this morning. Last night, we reported that Hugh Jackman is currently in negotiations to star in director Tom Hooper’s (The King’s Speech) big-budget musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Jackman is eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean, and now Deadline reports that Paul Bettany is a candidate to play the villainous police inspector Javert. Apparently he’s read for the role and sang a few songs from the stage musical. I like the idea of Bettany as Javert. He’s a fine dramatic actor, and he and Jackman make an interesting pair.
Additionally, THR reports that Chelsea Handler is in talks to join The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz’s feature directorial debut Fun Size. The comedy centers on a sarcastic teen who takes her little brother-trick-or-treating on Halloween only to lose him along the way. She must spend the rest of the night trying to track him down, with the help of her friends. Handler will play the mother of the teen girl. The cast now includes Victoria Justice (Victorious), Jane Levy, Thomas Mann (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) and Johnny Knoxville. http://collider.com/paul-bettany-les-miserables-chelsea-handler-fun-size/96740/

Hugh Jackman in Talks to Star in Tom Hooper’s LES MISERABLES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 15th, 2011

To say Hugh Jackman is versatile is a bit of an understatement. The guy can go from dark and brooding in X-Men to unbelievably charming and lively as host of the Oscars and the Tonys, as well as starring in Broadway’s The Boy from Oz. Given that he’s not too shabby at the whole song and dance thing, it makes perfect sense that he’s currently in talks to star in The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables. Variety reports that Jackman is currently in negotiations to take a starring role in the Universal flick, and THR reports that he’s eyeing the role of protagonist Jean Valjean. Now, onto the casting of villainous police inspector Javert.
Les Miserables will be Hooper’s first project since winning the Best Director Oscar for last year’s The King’s Speech. William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) wrote the screenplay based on the stage musical, which itself was based on the classic Victor Hugo novel. Jackman’s schedule opened up when Darren Aronofsky dropped out of The Wolverine at the last minute, leaving Fox scrambling to find a new director. http://collider.com/hugh-jackman-les-miserables/96660/

New Gag Reel for BAD TEACHER

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 16th, 2011

I don’t know what to expect from Bad Teacher, but I have high hopes.  From the promotional material, Cameron Diaz appears to pull no punches in her performance as a foul-mouthed, amoral teacher.  That’s commendable, but Diaz is no sure thing as a comedic performer.  I’m in it for the supporting cast.  I don’t know that you can find a more affable duo than Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake.  I can’t claim familiarity with Lucy Punch’s work, but I like her weird energy as an eager fellow teacher in the brief clips we’ve seen.  And in the new international gag reel, it’s John Michael Higgins and Paul Bates that get the biggest laugh.
Directed by Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard), Bad Teacher opens on June 24.  Watch the gag reel after the break.  (Beware of NSFW language.)

Jason Reitman to Play Doctor to BURT WONDERSTONE Script Starring Steve Carell

by Bill Graham    Posted: June 16th, 2011

If you are going to have someone touch up your script, Oscar-nominated writer/director Jason Reitman (Up In The Air) isn’t a bad choice. While he is busy working on his next film, New Line has tapped Reitman to tweak the script for Burt Wonderstone starring Steve Carell. THR notes that Reitman has been hired for “several weeks’ worth of work,” though it’s unknown if it is just a touch up or complete overhaul. I guess it really comes down to what you think “several” means in this case, and how much time Reitman gives to the film. The film follows Carell, a traditional magician in Las Vegas that loses his partner and has to compete with a younger, hipper magician. Darren Aronofsky to Direct HOBGOBLIN Pilot For HBO

by Bill Graham    Posted: June 16th, 2011

While Darren Aronofsky may have backed out of The Wolverine in March and crushed many hearts and dreams, he might win some back with his first adventure into television. HBO’s Hobgoblin has been steadily picking up steam since the period drama written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay) and his wife, Ayelet Waldman, first broke onto the scene. Why? Because it pits con men and magicians against Hitler and the Germans in World War II. Now Heat Vision says that the television series has picked up Aronofsky to direct the pilot. Hit the jump for some more background on the project and those involved. http://collider.com/darren-aronofsky-hobgoblin/96967/

New Teaser Trailer for DEXTER Season Six

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 16th, 2011

Michael C. Hall is likely on the verge of his fourth Emmy nomination for Dexter when the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announces the 2011 noms on July 14.  He’s earned every one — and deserves a win one of these days — as a truly and consistently captivating presence on an uneven series.  The first promo for season six leaned heavily on footage from previous seasons.  The new teaser trailer offers just Hall in closeup, that intense gaze, and a droll voiceover (“I’m feeling like my old self again”).  And that’s all we need.
Dexter returns this fall on Showtime with Edward James Olmos and Mos Def joining the cast.  Watch the trailer after the jump. http://collider.com/dexter-season-6-trailer/96961/

New Posters for COWBOYS & ALIENS and WARRIOR

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 16th, 2011

cowboys-and-aliens-warrior-poster
Two new posters tonight for Warrior and Cowboys & Aliens, tailored to men as much as movie posters can be “for men.”   Four of cinema’s most masculine specimens, staring straight ahead next to or above no-nonsense titles — no smiles allowed, obviously.
Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford look cooler than I ever will as the poster boys for Cowboys & Aliens.  Other men in the Jon Favreau-directed film include Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, and Walton Goggins.  There’s a woman billed in the top five (Olivia Wilde), but it’s okay because she’s superhot.  Cowboys & Aliens opens on July 29.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are busy looking ripped on the poster for Warrior.  Jennifer Morrison, Nick Nolte, and Noah Emmerich also star in the mixed martial arts drama.  Warrior opens on September 9.  Hit the jump for the posters and official synopses. http://collider.com/cowboys-and-aliens-poster-warrior-poster/96948/

Johnny Depp's "Dark Shadows" Plot Revealed

Posted: May 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros has unveiled a details plot synopsis for "Dark Shadows," which is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, and Chloe Moretz. Production started this week.

Plot: In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Depp) has the world at his feet - or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy... until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis (Haley), and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters (Bella Heathcote).

Jason Reitman's "Young Adult" Plot Revealed

Posted: May 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the official plot synopsis for Jason Reitman's (Up in the Air, Juno) upcoming "Young Adult" film, which stars Charlie Zeron, Patrick Wilson and Patton Oswalt. The script is once again written by Diablo Cody.

Plot: Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Reitman has already wrapped filming and will likely premiere the movie at the Toronto Film Festival in September, just like he has done with all his other films.

Keanu Reeves Turns Down "Akira" Film

Posted: May 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Keanu Reeves was in talks to play Kaneda, the gang leader in the upcoming live-action "Akira" film. Warner Bros was hoping that having Reeves on board would better its chances of getting another A-lister to take the role of Tetsuo, the best friend.

JoBlo has now learned that Reeves has officially turned down the role, which will likely make many fans very happy. Warners quickly released a statement addressing allegations that the project, which has a budget of roughly $140 million and has Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli) attached to direct, may be in trouble.

"Production on 'Akira' has not halted or been shut down, as the film has not yet been greenlit and is still very much in the development stage," said the studio. "The exploratory process is crucial to a project of this magnitude, and we will continue to sculpt our approach to making the best possible film."

"The Crow" Remake to Begin Filming in January

Posted: May 18th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

We just reported producer Ed Pressman is at the Cannes Film Festival with news that he'll be remaking Jean Claude Van-Damme's "Bloodsport" film with director Phillip Noyce (Salt) at the helm.

Pressman also revealed that "The Crow" remake is moving forward and will begin filming in January. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is on board to direct and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is still attached to star. It turns out that the lawsuit between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company is no longer an issue.

In the film, Cooper will play a rock musician who is murdered while trying to save his fiancee from thugs. He is resurrected by supernatural forces and seeks revenge. The role was originally played by Brandon Lee, who was killed by a freak accident during production in 1993.
