Lindsay Lohan Might Not Be in GOTTI: THREE GENERATIONS After All
by Jason Barr Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 3:18 pm
As of now, the confusion regarding Lindsay Lohan’s status in director Barry Levinson’s Gotti: Three Generations is rivaled only by the confusion regarding her life in general. Back when Nick Cassavetes was still directing, Lohan was in talks to play Gotti’s daughter, Victoria. Then, after Cassavetes’ departure, she dropped out of the film for a hot minutes only to rejoin the project as Gotti Jr.’s wife. Flash forward to the present, and TheWrap reports that Lohan is probably on the outs once again. In an exclusive with Levinson, the director states that “She’s possibly not (in the film) because she’s got her issues, and we also got to write the script, and then we’ll see where it is.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the oft-publicized actress…
Regardless of Lohan’s inclusion, Gotti: Three Generations will almost definitely star John Travolta as John Gotti Sr. and Al Pacino as crime family underboss Neil Dellacroce. Levinson also confirms that the film will most likely be in front of cameras by the end of the year.

Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen to Star in VERY GOOD GIRLS Alongside Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek
by Adam Chitwood Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 4:05 pm
Dakota Fanning and Sundance breakout Elizabeth Olsen have joined the cast of Very Good Girls alongside Dustin Hoffman, Sissy Spacek and Peter Sarsgaard. Written and to be directed by Namoi Foner (Running on Empty), the film tells the story of two teenage girls in New York City who decide to lose their virginity the summer after they graduate high school. Things get complicated, however, when they both fall for the same charismatic street artist (I hate it when that happens).
Olsen broke out in a big way at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, thanks in part to her harrowing turn in the drama Martha Marcy May Marlene, the creepy trailer for which was just released last week. Variety reports that production on Very Good Girls starts this September.

Alex Pettyfer Will Play Channing Tatum in MAGIC MIKE
by Jason Barr Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
A couple of weeks ago, we brought you the news that Steven Soderbergh will be directing Magic Mike, a male stripper film inspired by and starring Channing Tatum. Tonight, Deadline confirms that Alex Pettyfer will be playing the role of Channing Tatum alongside, you guessed it, Channing Tatum. Confused yet? Let’s have a quick review: Channing Tatum has a foray into male stripping around the tender age of 19 (pretty standard stuff, right?). He is now, for all intents and purposes, a movie star. Star presence in hand, Tatum pitches the idea for Magic Mike to director Steven Soderbergh who quickly accepts calling it “…one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie.” Now, Tatum will play the lead role of “Mike” a dance/stripper teacher who shows Pettyfer’s character (Tatum’s 19 year-old-stripping self) the dance/stripping ropes.
Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion surrounding Pettyfer’s turn as Tatum in Magic Mike. Penned by Reid Carolin, the film is described as a “story of friendship set in the world of male strippers.” Apparently it takes place during a “wild summer” and lots of “dancing, partying, and women” are involved. Sounds great to me. By Soderbergh’s own previous admission, Saturday Night Fever will be a heavy influence for Magic Mike. Production details for the project are currently undisclosed.

Ashton Kutcher to Join TWO AND A HALF MEN
by Adam Chitwood Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 6:28 pm
It looks like the casting circus surrounding Two and a Half Men is finally over. Sources have confirmed to THR that Ashton Kutcher is putting the final touches on a deal to join the cast of the sitcom, filling the void left by Charlie Sheen after he decided acting sane was too much to ask of him for over $1 million per episode. The deal comes in the wake of Hugh Grant nearly joining the cast, only to pull out at the last minute over concerns about doing 20+ episodes of a TV series every year. No word on how Kutcher will be incorporated into the show, but one source lied that the storyline is “really funny.” I’m just baffled as to how this show is still a thing.

Isabelle Fuhrman and Alexander Ludwig Round Out the Tributes in THE HUNGER GAMES Cast
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 8:51 pm
The basic premise behind The Hunger Games is a fight to the death between 24 kids (ages 12-18) — two “tributes” selected from each of the 12 districts of Panem, the dictatorship of the future. Lionsgate has spent the last month steadily rolling out the young cast that will play the kids, saving two of the most important tributes for today’s final announcement. You can gauge their relative importance by their names — known not as “Tribute Boy” and “Tribute Girl,” but rather as Cato and Clove of District 2. Alexander Ludwig (Race to Witch Mountain) will play Cato, Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) will play Clove. I can’t speak for Ludwig’s talent, but the Fuhrman casting is excellent. She wowed us all in Orphan in 2009, but screen credits since have been minimal (The Cleveland Show?). Fuhrman is perfect for Clove, who is great with a knife and, um… not very nice.
Virtually all of the principal roles are filled: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Willow Shields as Primrose, and Paula Malcomson as Mrs. Everdeen. Find a Cinna (perhaps Lenny Kravitz?) and a President Snow, and you’re pretty much set. Director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) ought to begin production soon to make the planned March 23, 2012 release date. Hit the jump for the official synopsis the full tribute casting rundown.

Quick — before you read the headline, think of four male actors you’d like to see in a movie together. Now, less than 2% of you named Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, and Christopher Walken. But 14% combined two or more of these actors, and an impressive 37% of your lists included at least one. This bodes well for Seven Psychopaths, the black comedy which secured Farrell, Rockwell, Rourke, and Walken at the Cannes Film Festival today. Per Variety, the story centers on “a screenwriter (Farrell) struggling for inspiration for his script, Seven Psychopaths, who gets drawn into the dog kidnapping schemes of his oddball friends (Rockwell and Walken).” How can you not love a movie that casts Rockwell and Walken as “oddball friends”/dog kidnappers separated by 26 years in age? Rourke will play a gangster who causes trouble when his dog goes missing. (Given Rourke’s love of dogs and general flirtation with insanity, he may not know he is in Seven Psychopaths.)
The project reunites Farrell and In Bruges writer/director Martin McDonagh, not to mention In Bruges producers Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Tessa Ross. The ineffable Meghan Ellison (True Grit) is also on board as producer.

Steven Soderbergh to Direct Male-Stripper Film MAGIC MIKE Starring and Inspired By Channing Tatum
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 29th, 2011
You may ask yourself, “What would it take to prolong Steven Soderbergh’s retirement from directing?” The answer, apparently, is a movie about male strippers. The Ocean’s Eleven director just committed to helm Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum. The film is based on Tatum’s experiences as a 19-year-old stripper, and tells “a story of friendship set in the world of male strippers.” Here’s what the director had to say about the project:“When Channing talked to me about this, I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie. I said I wanted in immediately. It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using Saturday Night Fever as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track.”Soderbergh has long talked about retiring after filming his Liberace biopic with Michael Douglas, and this doesn’t seem to change things much. Deadline reports that he will squeeze Magic Mike in this fall before he shoots his last two fllms. Hit the jump to see what Tatum has to say about the project, as well as a rundown of Soderbergh’s final films before he heads into retirement.

Sebastian Stan and Socratis Otto Join Amanda Seyfried in GONE
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 29th, 2011
Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) have been set to join the cast of Gone. Variety reports that the duo will star alongside Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Emily Wickersham (I Am Number Four) and Wes Bently (Jonah Hex) in the thriller. The script by Allison Burnett (Fame) centers on “a kidnap survivor (Seyfried) who attempts to find the same killer whom she believes has abducted her sister.”Heitor Dhalia (Adrift) is set to direct the film, with Summit Entertainment handling distribution. No word on what roles Stan and Otto will take on, but the film was supposed to start filming sometime this month. Stan will next be seen as Steve Rogers’ sidekick Bucky Barnes in Captain America.

Robert Zemeckis in Talks to Direct Time-Travel Film REPLAY
by Adam Chitwood Posted: April 29th, 2011
Could Robert Zemeckis finally be returning to live-action? And with a time-travel film to boot? It appears so, as Vulture reports that the director is in ”serious talks” to helm the adaptation of Ken Grimwood’s novel Replay. The thrilling premise centers on a radio journalist in his forties who dies, but awakes back in 1963 in his 18-year-old body with all of his previous memories intact. The kicker? He always dies in 1988, but returns to 1963 to start the whole 25 years over again with every single memory intact and the ability to make different life choices (spouse, kids, etc.)This sounds like a fantastic concept, and a return to form for the Back to the Future director. Following the demise of his motion-capture Yellow Submarine remake, Zemeckis has been tooling around with a couple of live-action flicks. Most recently, he entered early negotiations to helm Flight with Denzel Washington. Hit the jump for more on both projects, as well which one Zemeckis might film first, and a synopsis of the novel Replay.
