Tommy Lee Jones to Join Meryl Streep and Steve Carell in GREAT HOPE SPRINGS
by Adam Chitwood Posted: May 19th, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Tommy Lee Jones is the latest actor to join the cast of Great Hope Springs. Directed by David Frankel, Meryl Streep and Steve Carell are poised to star in the film that centers on a longtime couple who decides to undergo intense marriage counseling. Jones will play Streep’s husband, while Carell is set to play a relationship guru. Mike Nichols was previously circling the project as his next directorial vehicle, but he subsequently dropped out.

The screenplay, written by Vanessa Taylor, landed on the Black List. Production on Great Hope Springs is set to start this August, with a 4th quarter 2012 release date being eyed. Based on the premise, a holiday release a la It’s Complicated seems likely. Hit the jump to read the full press release, as well as the official synopsis.

Renny Harlin on "The Long Kiss Goodnight" Sequel
Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Back in 2007, Samuel L Jackson revealed that he has been talking to director Renny Harlin about developing a sequel to the 1996 thriller "The Long Kiss Goodnight."

He said that Geena Davis will not be returning. Instead, the film will concentrate on Samantha's daughter, Caitlin, who is all grown up and wants to find out who killed her mother. As a result she contacts Mitch (Jackson), as he is the only connection to her mom and might just know who to talk to.

DenOfGeek now caught up with Harlin, who said: "I'm right now looking for a writer who would have the same incredible sensibilities in terms of character, humor and action. Sam [Jackson] is 100% committed, he's 100% on board."

He added: "My plan is to focus on a story about Geena's daughter, who was six years old in the original and would now be about twenty-one. It's actually gonna be sort of a buddy story between Geena's daughter and Sam."

Trailer: Jay Baruchel's "Good Neighbors" Thriller
Posted: May 19th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Magnolia Pictures has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming "Good Neighbors" thriller, starring Jay Baruchel (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), Scott Speedman (The Strangers) and Emily Hampshire. Check it out below.

Plot: Neighbors Spencer (Speedman) and Louise (Hampshire) have bonded over their fascination with a recent string of murders terrorizing their community. When a new tenant named Victor (Baruchel) arrives in the building, all three quickly hit it off. But as they soon discover, each of them has their own dark secret. As the violence outside mounts, the city retreats indoors for safety. But the more time these three spend together in their apartment building, the clearer it becomes that what they once thought of as a safe haven is as dangerous as any outside terrors they could imagine.

The new movie is written and directed by Jacob Tierney (The Trotsky) and is set to hit theaters on July 29th, in limited release. The film will also be released on iTunes on June 24th.

Teaser Poster for THE MUPPETS
by Kevin Panasiewicz Posted: May 14th, 2011 at 10:38 am

The first teaser poster for Disney’s The Muppets has popped up online, albeit as a blurry and off-center snapshot taken by a fan in Montreal, but that’s better than nothing right? It features the classic characters Gonzo (my personal favorite), Fozzie Bear, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal walking out onto what appears to be a stage aglow with spotlights. It’s awesome to have the Muppet gang back, but this picture creeps me out. THEY’RE WALKING, as in with legs — it’s too much too soon. Hit the jump to see what the Muppets look like in all their anatomically correct glory.

Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne to Star in Agatha Christe Adaptation CROOKED HOUSE; Neil LaBute Will Direct
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 14th, 2011 at 10:29 am

Julie Andrews, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Gabriel Byrne have signed on to star in an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel Crooked House. In the murder mystery is set against “the backdrop of three generations of a family that lives together in a large and seemingly crooked house.” Every member of the eccentric family has motive to have killed the multimillionaire patriarch, Aristide Leonide. Neil LaBute (Death at a Funeral) will direct from a script by Julian Fellowes (The Tourist) and Tim Rose Price (The Serpent’s Kiss). The $20 million production is scheduled to shoot this summer in the U.K. The story calls for a large ensemble, so expect more casting notices in the near future. Andrews, Goode, and Byrne — and sure, let’s throw in the lovely Arterton — is a very good start.

Yvonne Strahovski Joins Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in MY MOTHER’S CURSE
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 14th, 2011 at 9:55 am

Paramount has signed Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski to star opposite Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in My Mother’s Curse. The story revolves around “an inventor (Rogen) who invites his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love.” According to THR, Strahovski will play the high school sweetheart that Rogen’s character once proposed to. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct from a script by Dan Fogelman (Tangled), based on his own experience traveling with Mrs. Fogelman.

NBC just renewed Chuck for a fifth and final season. If there is any justice, the careers of Strahovski and Zachary Levi will be sufficiently launched by the end of the series. The Aussie actress will make her Hollywood feature debut opposite Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, and Clive Owen in The Killer Elite.

First Trailer for OUR IDIOT BROTHER

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 24th, 2011

The first trailer for the comedy Our Idiot Brother has been released. The film first premiered at Sundance and boasts a wildly impressive cast that includes Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Rashida Jones. Directed by Jesse Peretz (The Chateau), the film tells the story of a ne’er-do-well brother who successively barges into the lives of his three sisters.
The trailer hits all the right notes, with the pitch-perfect Rudd coming off as equal parts lovable and pathetic. The supporting cast looks fantastic as well. Hit the jump to check the trailer out for yourself, and click here to read Matt’s review of the film from Sundance. Our Idiot Brother hits theaters on August 26th.

Photos: Captain America Filming Secret Scene in Times Square
Less than two months before release, director Joe Johnston took Samuel L Jackson and Chris Evans to shoot additional scenes for "Captain America: The First Avenger" at Times Square on Saturday. There were plenty of people in the area, which is why we now have a video and several photos from the set.

Judging by the photos, it seems that this is Marvel's post-credits scene in which Steve Rogers (Evans) travels from the 1940s to present day and is overwhelmed by the chaos of today's New York. Check everything out below.

Now that "The Avengers" are getting ready to begin filming on Monday, Evans is worried that he won't get the chance to star in films other than Captain America-related.

Evans explained: "That was a big concern when we agreed to do the film. I said look, 'If do this movie, I don't want to only be in a blue superhero outfit for the next ten years. That's just not creatively satisfying.'"

He confirmed that Marvel is already working on the "Captain America" sequel and "The Avengers" is getting ready to begin filming on Monday. "It's gonna be tough. I might not have a lot of downtime in my life," said Evans. "We did sign a six picture thing, so there's potentially three Captain America's and three Avengers."

Trailer: Paul Rudd's "Our Idiot Brother" Comedy

Posted: April 24th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Trailer: Paul Rudds Our Idiot Brother Comedy
Today we have the trailer for "Our Idiot Brother" comedy, starring Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer and Zooey Deschanel. It is directed by Jesse Peretz (The Ex) and is set to hit theaters on August 26th. Check out the trailer below.

Plot: Every family has one: the sibling who is always just a little bit behind the curve when it comes to getting his life together. For sisters Liz (Mortimer), Miranda (Banks) and Natalie (Deschanel), that person is their perennially upbeat brother Ned (Rudd), an erstwhile organic farmer whose willingness to rely on the honesty of mankind is a less-than-optimum strategy for a tidy, trouble-free existence.

Ned may be utterly lacking in common sense, but he is their brother and so, after his girlfriend dumps him and boots him off the farm, his sisters once again come to his rescue. As Liz, Emily and Natalie each take a turn at housing Ned, their brother's unfailing commitment to honesty creates more than a few messes in their comfortable routines. But as each of their lives begins to unravel, Ned's family comes to realize that maybe, in believing and trusting the people around him, Ned isn't such an idiot after all.

Photo: Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady"

Posted: April 22nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Today we have a photo of Meryl Streep and Jim Broadbent as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher her husband Denis in "The Iron Lady" biopic. Check out the photo below.

Plot: The film tells the compelling story of Margaret Thatcher, a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and intimate portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.

"The film covers a big spectrum of her life in order to sum up the kind of person she was, and why she has this iconic status," said an executive producer.

"The Iron Lady" is directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) and co-stars Anthony Head. It has yet to secure US distribution, but is set to hit UK theaters on January 6th, 2012.

New Image from THE IRON LADY Starring Meryl Streep and Jim Broadbent

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 22nd, 2011

A new image from the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady has gone online.  The film stars Meryl Streep (apparently gunning for Oscar nomination #15) as Thatcher and Jim Broadbent as Thatcher’s husband Denis.  The film also stars Alexandra Roach, Harry Lloyd, and Olivia Colman.  Footage from the film, which will show how Thatcher dominated Britain’s political landscape in her role as the country’s prime minister, is set to be screened for potential buyers at Cannes.  The movie currently has distribution in the UK, but presumably a U.S. distributor will pick it up at Cannes.  The real question is whether or not it will hit theaters next year or if it will be held for the 2012 Oscars.  As for folks in the UK, you’ll see the film on January 6, 2012.
Hit the jump to check out the image.

Ralph Fiennes in Talks to Play Magwitch in Mike Newell’s GREAT EXPECTATIONS; BOND 23 Talks Still Ongoing

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 22nd, 2011

Ralph Fiennes is in talks to join Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Helena Bonham Carter in Mike Newell’s adaptation of Great ExpectationsDaily Mail reports that Fiennes is up for the role of the mysterious Magwitch, but also notes that Fiennes is currently set to play Prospero in Trevor Nunn’s version of The Tempest at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.  Because Newell plans to shoot in London starting in August, if Fiennes takes the role, he would have to shoot his scenes during the day and then do his stage performances in the evening.
As we reported back in February, Fiennes is also in talks to join Sam Mendes’ untitled James Bond flick and those negotiations are still ongoing.  He’ll next be seen in theaters this July playing some guy named “Voldemort” in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Great Expectations.

HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET Starring Jennifer Lawrence Set for February 3, 2012

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 22nd, 2011

Relativity Media has set Mark Tonderai’s thriller House at the End of the Street for February 3, 2012.  The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as a teenager who moves into a new home with her mother (Elisabeth Shue), but then discovers that their home is next door to the site of a double murder. She makes friends with the massacre’s sole survivor (Max Thieriot). If it turns out he was the person responsible for the double murder, I’ll be very disappointed.
The only other film currently set for release on February 3, 2012 is Fox’s superhero drama Chronicle starring Dane DeHaan.  Presumably, the film will try to build off all the publicity Lawrence will be receiving in the lead-up to her starring role in The Hunger Games, which opens less than two months later. [Update: We've added the press release from Relativity after the jump.]

Emile Hirsch Joins Oliver Stone’s SAVAGES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 22nd, 2011

Oliver Stone’s Savages continues to round up an impressive cast even though Stone hasn’t made a good film in over a decade.  According to Variety, the latest talented actor to board the flick is Emile Hirsh.  There are currently no details on which role he’ll play, but he’ll be starring alongside Benecio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, and Uma Thurman.  The film is based on Don Winslow’s novel which centers a pair of marijuana growers (Kitsch and Johnson) who are forced to work in a Mexican cartel after their friend is kidnapped.  Stone is revising the script Winslow co-wrote with Shane Salerno.
Hirsch recently wrapped filming on William Friedkin’s dark comedy Killer Joe and he’s currently at work on The Motel Life alongside Stephen Dorff and Dakota Fanning.  Hit the jump to read the synopsis for Savages.

Megan Fox in Talks to Join Judd Apatow’s KNOCKED UP Spin-Off Starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 16th, 2011
Megan Fox is in negotiations to join Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up spin-off starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. THR reports that Fox’s role is currently unknown and no plot has currently been revealed for the film other than Rudd and Mann will reprise their bickering husband-and-wife characters from the 2007 comedy. The under-wraps film is currently set to be released on June 1, 2012.

This is the latest comedy that Fox has signed on to. She previously boarded Jennifer Westfeldt’s ensemble comedy Friends with Kids with Jon Hamm, Adam Scott, and Kristen Wiig. Fox’s latest film, Passion Play, was picked up at the Toronto Film Festival despite abysmal reviews. Play, which co-stars Mickey Rourke and Bill Murray, will be released directed to DVD. While Fox hasn’t landed a hit in a while, she can be charming when given the right material. Hopefully this new supporting work in these upcoming comedies will help to re-establish her.

Tommy Lee Jones to Join Meryl Streep in NEW HOPE SPRINGS?
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 16th, 2011
Tommy Lee Jones may be poised to team up with Meryl Streep in David Frankel’s (The Devil Wears Prada) drama New Hope Springs. We previously reported that Steve Carell was in talks to join the film, and now Deadline reports that Tommy Lee Jones is the frontrunner to play Streep’s husband. The story centers on a couple who, after 31 years of marriage, go into intense couples counseling to decide whether or not they should stay together. Carell would play the therapist.

While nothing’s been confirmed, Jones seems like a perfect fit opposite Streep. Here’s hoping he takes the role. Vanessa Taylor (TV’s Everwood) wrote the script and shooting is set to begin this August.

Shia LaBeouf to Star in HORNS
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 16th, 2011
Shia LaBeouf is attached to star in the feature film adaptation of the Joe Hill novel Horns. LaBeouf will play Ig Perrish, a 26-year-old who drinks heavily on the first anniversary of his girlfriend’s murder and awakes the next morning with horns growing from his head: “As his horns grow bigger, Ig sets out to investigate the unsolved murder of his girlfriend and the case’s connection to his cursed fate.”

Keith Bunin (In Treatment) will adapt the screenplay for Mandalay Pictures, who optioned Horns in 2009 shortly before the book was published. Hit the jump for the full synopsis, plus a look at the other projects Hill and LaBeouf have in development.

Albert Brooks Eyes Role in Judd Apatow’s KNOCKED UP Spin-Off Starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 16th, 2011
Earlier today, we reported that Megan Fox is in talks to join Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up spinoff, featuring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their characters from that film. Now it looks like Albert Brooks may be joining the cast as well. Deadline reports that Brooks would play Rudd’s character’s father in the film that Apatow wrote and will direct.

No other plot details are known at this point, but Rudd and Mann stole nearly every scene together in Knocked Up and the pairing of Brooks and Apatow seems like a genius combination, so it’s safe to say that this project’s a bit anticipated. Though Apatow produces plenty, he’s only written and directed three flicks to date: The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Funny People. No word on when production is set to start, but with casting moving rather quickly, the film will most likely be rolling soon.

Paramount Picks up FORGOTTEN as Starring Vehicle for Hailee Steinfeld

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 18th, 2011

Paramount has picked up the rights to Cat Patrick’s upcoming novel Forgotten as a star vehicle for True Grit actress Hailee Steinfeld.  According to Deadline, Steinfeld would play “London Lane, a 16-year old whose memory is erased at 4:33 every night. The following morning, all she can remember are events from her future. After meeting a new boy at school, London becomes frustrated that she can’t seem to find him in her memory of things to come.”  That sounds like it could be a solid premise and hopefully Paramount will invest in a strong screenplay and director to give Steinfeld the best possible chance at a worthy follow-up to her Oscar-nominated performance in Grit.
Forgotten is the first studio deal for Steinfeld since her breakthrough role, and I’m a little surprised it’s taken this long.  I’m also curious as to why her name hasn’t been floated as a contender for Katniss Everdeen, the teenage protagonist of The Hunger Games, which is currently being adapted by director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit).  While I don’t think Steinfeld will win for Best Supporting Actress on Sunday (the Academy rarely gives awards to young actors), it’s clear that her career is taking off and I’m excited to see what project she’ll take next.

First Clip from SOURCE CODE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 18th, 2011

Opening on April 1 is Summit Entertainment’s sci-fi thriller Source Code.  Directed by Duncan Jones (who previously made the incredible Moon), the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright.   If you aren’t familiar with the plot, Gyllenhaal stars as a soldier who wakes up in the body of a stranger on a Chicago commuter train and “learns he’s part of a government experiment called the ‘Source Code,’ a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life.”  Watch the trailer here.
Since I’m pretty sure I’m under embargo…hypothetically speaking…if I were to have seen an early screening, I might be able to tell you that I thought Source Code was really good.  For now that’s all you’ll get out of me.  Anyway, for a taste of the film, watch a clip after the jump:

Steve Carell in Talks to Join Meryl Streep in GREAT HOPE SPRINGS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 18th, 2011

Steve Carell has reportedly begun negotiations to co-star with Meryl Streep in Great Hope Springs.  Directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada), the story centers on a couple (played by Streep and an actor TBD) who, after 31 years of marriage, go into intense couples counseling to decide whether or not they should stay together.  According to Deadline, Carell is in talks to play the couple’s marriage therapist, Dr. Feld.
With his exit from The Office scheduled to air this Spring, Carell is set to become a ubiquitous presence in mainstream movies.  He’ll next be seen this summer in the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and after he shoots Great Hope Springs, he’ll move on to Burt Wonderstone.  Carell is also reportedly attached to Mail-Order Groom with Tina Fey, Get Smart 2 (which he also wrote), Raised by Wolfs, The Abstinence Teacher, A Boyfriend for My Wife, and Of All the Things.

Sony Pictures Courting Colin Firth for MY FAIR LADY

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 18th, 2011

Colin Firth is currently one of the most in-demand actors in town. Being the stand-out frontrunner for a Best Actor Oscar will do that to you. Now it appears that Sony Pictures is keen on nabbing Firth for their remake of the 1964 musical classic My Fair Lady. In a pitch-perfect casting move, Carey Mulligan has long been attached to take on the role of Eliza Doolittle, with Joe Wright (Atonement) set to direct the film from a screenplay by Emma Thompson (the actress also wrote Sense and Sensibility).
The report, filed by The Daily Mail, states that Sony Pictures originally brushed Firth aside in favor of casting Hugh Grant as ol’ ‘Enry ‘Iggins, with the producers insisting that Firth was their man. Thankfully, Sony relented, and now only wants to make the film with Firth. The actor is sure to be vetting a flurry of offers now that his brilliant turn in The King’s Speech is getting so much attention (but let’s be honest, the guy’s been brilliant for a long time now). I say the pairing of Firth and Mulligan for My Fair Lady is spot on. Here’s hoping it works out.   http://collider.com/colin-firth-my-fair-lady/76879/

Colin Firth Could Star Opposite Carey Mulligan In My Fair Lady

published: 2011-02-18 08:52:44 Author: Katey Rich
The My Fair Lady movie musical that's been rumored for years now is back in the news again, with Carey Mulligan once again up for the Eliza Doolittle role, but a new, seriously exciting name attached to Henry Higgins. According to The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye-- someone with much more reliable information than you usually see from UK tabloid rumors, it's worth noting-- Colin Firth is back in the running to play the Professor in the project in the works at Sony. Firth had been a favorite of producers Duncan Kenworthy and Cameron Mackintosh years ago, but the studio reportedly wanted someone more famous along the lines of Hugh Grant. Now, of course, Firth is a guaranteed Best Actor winner and star of the hugely successful The King's Speech, and fickle Sony wants him back.

The main problem at the moment has nothing to do with the actors-- Mulligan is still on board as well, and apparently has time in her schedule-- but with mountains of legal paperwork. CBS Films has the rights, but some of them are about to turn back to the heirs of the musical's writers; also involved are the estates of George Bernard Shaw and Gabriel Pascal, who wrote the play Pygmalion that the musical was based on. Emma Thompson, who wrote the new screenplay, reportedly drew from Shaw's work, which makes the thicket of legal issues all the more complicated.

Regardless, Sony clearly sees this as a potential moneymaker, and will likely marshall their considerable resources toward getting all these issues cleared up. Firth is up for pretty much any role he wants these days, and will spend the spring
starring opposite Cameron Diaz in the caper comedy Gambit, but come on, we all know he's perfect for Henry Higgins and he probably does too. The man deserves a better role in a musical than the completely loony one he played in Mamma Mia!, and with Mulligan as his co-star, it's hard to imagine an opportunity much better than this one.

When the first publicity shot of Meryl Streep as the former British prime minister for the biopic The Iron Lady was recently released, we were struck by the resemblance. In the latest images from the set, shot in South London earlier this week, Streep, who is known for her perfectionism, appears to have physically altered herself to become Thatcher.

New SUPERMAN Henry Cavill Talks about Being Cast in Zack Snyder’s Upcoming Reboot

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 17th, 2011

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly goes inside Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman re-launch.  But the cover of the issue belongs to new Supes, Henry Cavill, who spoke to EW about the film.  While the full interview has yet to go online, EW issued a brief tease with Cavill talking about his anxiety about putting on the suit and screen-testing for the coveted role:
“All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!
But Snyder was impressed:
“Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.”
The film is slated to begin shooting later this year for a holiday 2012 release.  With the start date on the horizon, we should expect casting news of the other major roles in the near future.

Trailer for INSIDIOUS Starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 17th, 2011

The guy or gal who was tasked with coming up with a tagline for the Insidious trailer didn’t do a very good job.  The trailer tries to play on the line “Insidious is Insidious” which makes the movie sound more like an Internet meme than a horror film.  Or maybe they just wanted to put the “taut” back into “tautology”.  Either way, the trailer then tries to pull a little twist by saying “Look!  It isn’t a haunted house movie!  It’s a haunted child movie!  You haven’t seen that before, have you?  Oh.  You have.  Well…crap.”
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and get a bad case of haunted child.  Insidious stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey.  The film opens April 1st.

Julianne Moore Covers 'InStyle' March 2011

Julianne Moore Covers 'InStyle' March 2011
Julianne Moore wears Tom Ford as she graces the cover of InStyle magazine’s March 2011 issue, on newsstands on Friday (February 11).
Here’s what the 50-year-old Shelter actress had to share:
On when she feels sexy: “Oh, my. Well, I think you need to be away from your children [laughs]. Doing the mommy stuff does sort of squash that area of your life. I can feel that way when I’m alone with Bart or when we take a trip. But the day-to-day of picking up kids and going to the eye doctor and then dropping them off at basketball and then going to the middle school concert, that stuff doesn’t make you feel very sexy! That was my day yesterday.”
On what her 50th birthday means to her: “One thing a 50th birthday does is say, All right, time is marching. You have these things you’re happy with and proud of. But if there’s something you haven’t done that you’ve been waiting to do, then by all means, don’t want any longer. Do it!”

Gemma Ward: Heath Ledger Was One of a Kind

Gemma Ward: Heath Ledger Was One of a Kind
Gemma Ward graces the cover of the Daily Telegraph’s Sunday magazine.
Here’s what the 23-year-old Aussie model and actress had to share:
On meeting Heath Ledger in New York in 2007: “We were both struggling with things that I won’t get into and we bonded over that. At first I said, ‘Listen, my mum’s living with me right now and I’m going through a hard time. I’m not interested in having a serious relationship,’ and he said, ‘Let’s just be there for each other through these hard times.’ And we developed a relationship and started seeing each other.”
On her memories about Heath: “He was an incredible person, unlike anybody I’ve ever met – and will meet ever again. He was one of a kind and extremely sensitive, extremely open, extremely honest, extremely generous, extremely energetic. He had time for everybody, no matter who you were. He was such an amazing talent.”
On her character in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: “Tamara is the typical siren. And what I found interesting about the mermaids in this movie is that the producers stayed true to mermaid mythology. The original story of The Little Mermaid was very gruesome – a lot of these old fairytales are.”
On her career: “I wasn’t a child [when I started out]; I was a teenager. I wasn’t all that innocent, either. I wasn’t taken advantage of – I knew what I was doing. I feel very powerful in myself now. I’m happy with where I am and I’m excited for my life and excited to embrace all aspects of it. I’m definitely not [regretful]. I look back on everything I’ve done with pride.”
