Rob Cohen to Direct Revenge Thriller BULLET RUN

by Brendan Bettinger  Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Rob Cohen has signed with Voltage Productions to direct the revenge thriller Bullet RunVariety provides an outline for the Andrew Hilton script:
[Bullet Run centers] on the head of an elite private protection team and his ex-CIA agent wife attempting to avenge their daughter’s murder by infiltrating Iran to bring the killer to justice. When the operation to extract their target goes awry, they must battle through 200 miles and 20,000 bullets while keeping alive the one man they want to kill.

Nicolas Chartier, Craig Flores, and Zev Foreman of Voltage will produce alongside Hilton.  Now that Cohen is on board, he will work with Hilton to develop the script after production wraps on I, Alex Cross.  I must confess I love 1) husband-and-wife spy teams and 2) the title Bullet Run.  With the right casting, this could be right up my alley. http://collider.com/rob-cohen-bullet-run/98462/

Emma Thompson in Talks to Write ANNIE Remake

by Brendan Bettinger   Posted: June 23rd, 2011

It’s been a few months since we last heard about the Annie remake, developed by Will Smith as a starring vehicle for daughter Willow.  At the time, Glee creator Ryan Murphy was mentioned as the frontrunner to direct.  Smith and co-producer Jay-Z probably missed the chance to squeeze the shoot into the Glee spring/summer production hiatus between season two and three.  To do so they would have needed a script.  On that front, Vulture hears Smith and Jay-Z are in negotiations Oscar-winning screenwriter Emma Thompson to write the musical.  Presumably, the topic came up as Smith and Thompson shared a break on the set of Men in Black III.
Vulture actively lobbies for Thompson to tailor the role of drunk orphanage director Miss Hannigan for Oscar-winning actor Emma Thompson; I co-sign.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the 1982 movie. http://collider.com/emma-thompson-annie-movie-remake/98457/

Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn Talk LOGAN’S RUN

by Bill Graham   Posted: June 23rd, 2011

There are a handful of properties that beg for a remake that haven’t found the right combination to get it started. The latest team is star Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson), who think they have finally figured out the errors of the previously potential suitors. Since the mid-1990s, the Warner Bros. property has chewed up and spit out every director Joel Silver could attach to the film, including Carl Erik Rinsch in November. The 1976 original directed by Michael Anderson centered on a future society that put an age cap at 30 to help alleviate the threat of overpopulation and limited resources. A Sandman named Logan 5 has spent his entire life chasing down Runners, but suddenly becomes one himself in a mix up. For what Gosling and Refn think is the key to remaking Logan’s Run today, hit the jump. http://collider.com/ryan-gosling-nicolas-winding-refn-logans-run/98448/

Ryan Gosling Set to Reunite With Nicolas Winding Refn for ONLY GOD FORGIVES

by Bill Graham    Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Ryan Gosling has officially shot out of a cannon. The Blue Valentine star seems to be attached to a plethora of projects these days and he is already making of habit of working with Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine). Now he is in talks to reteam with Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Gosling’s upcoming film Drive. Considering Ramses went bananas for Drive at the Los Angeles Film Festival, I think the two teaming up again is a good sign. Their new film is titled Only God Forgives and will also star Kristin Scott Thomas with a planned fall start date. However, Refn and Gosling aren’t stopping there. They are also headlining Warner Bros’ remake of Logan’s Run. For more on Only God Forgives and Gosling’s other projects, hit the jump. http://collider.com/ryan-gosling-only-god-forgives/98440/

New Posters for CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE., TERRA NOVA, and SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

by Jason Barr  Posted: June 23rd, 2011

We have a plethora of new posters to bring you tonight from Crazy, Stupid, Love., Fox’s Terra Nova, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. Beginning with Crazy, I’m looking forward to this pic because of its stellar cast and I’m a fan of these new posters because it gives me a heads up on which of the said cast members embody “Crazy,” “Stupid,” and “Love.” Starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, and Marisa Tomei, Crazy, Stupid, Love. hits theaters on July 29th.
Next up, we have some very cool sheets from Fox’s and producer Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi drama Terra Nova. Up until now, I was a little concerned that the series’ promo campaign was trying to look kind of like Avatar without looking exactly like Avatar. However, the three “Warning” messages on display here are pretty creative and stylish to boot. Fox just announced that Terra Nova will premiere on Monday, September 26th. Finally, we also have some new looks at Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, one of which is a character poster for a dog. Enough said. The Robert Rodriguez written/directed pic stars Jessica Alba, Antonio Banderas, Jeremy Piven, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, and Joel McHale. It opens in 3D on August 19th. Hit the jump to check out the new posters.

Seth Gordon to Reboot WARGAMES for MGM

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 23rd, 2011

Seth Gordon directed one of my favorite documentaries with 2007′s The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. Perhaps the fine folks over at MGM are fans of that pic as well because the studio has him handed the keys to another gaming-centric project: its WarGames reboot. According to Deadline, Gordon will develop the film with the intent to direct. For those unaware, 1983′s WarGames starred Matthew Broderick as a computer prodigy who takes pleasure in manipulating a military computer program only to find that the “game” could indeed launch real nuclear missiles, effectively beginning World War III. Directed by John Badham (Short Circuit), the film garnered three Oscar nods for “Best Sound,” “Best Cinematography,” and “Best Writing” respectively. In short, Green’s updated take has a lot to live up to.
WarGames becomes the third franchise to receive the “reboot treatment” from MGM which also has plans to resurrect RoboCop with director Jose Padilha and Carrie with playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. As for Gordon, he most recently directed Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and Colin Farrel in the upcoming comedy Horrible Bosses. That pic hits theaters on July 8th.

Ryan Gosling to Star in LOGAN’S RUN Remake Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 10th, 2011

Here’s some awesome news: Ryan Gosling is set to star in Warner Bros’ remake of the sci-fi flick Logan’s Run.  Here’s some more awesome news: Nicolas Winding Refn is set to direct.  Deadline reports that Gosling is eager to reunite with his Drive director and it’s so cool that Warners is giving Refn a tent pole flick.  Carl Erik Rinsch was originally set to direct, but stepped down in November to helm 47 Ronin instead.
Studios have been eager to get Gosling and his “Hey Girl” looks and acting talent into a tent pole flick and while he’s going more mainstream with the rom-com Stupid, Crazy, Love this summer with Steve Carell, this is definitely a big transition for the in-demand actor.  He’s also attached to star in George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March.  However, while I’m happy for Gosling, I’m even more jazzed about Refn getting the gig.  I became a big fan of the guy after watching the Pusher trilogy and Bronson and I can’t wait to see what he does with Logan’s Run.  For those unfamiliar with Logan’s Run, hit the jump for a synopsis.

Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper in Talks to Join ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 10th, 2011

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) and Dominic Cooper (An Education) are in talks to join Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterDeadline reports that Mackie is up for the role of Will, Lincoln’s best friend.  I bet they have great discussions about slavery while they’re in the middle of killing vamps.  As for Cooper, Variety reports that he’s negotiating for the role of Henry, “a mythic, ageless figure who turns Lincoln into an axe-throwing expert slayer of vampires”.  Last week, we reported that Joaquin Phoenix was the front-runner for Henry, but it looks like he’s passed on the part.
Director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is clearly going for rising stars in his casting and that’s a smart move since it keeps costs down but by the time the film opens next summer, Mackie and Cooper could be better known.  Hit the jump for more on the two new additions and a brief synopsis.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is due out in 3D on June 22, 2012.

Jennifer Lawrence in Talks to Star in Oliver Stone’s SAVAGES

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 10th, 2011

Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) is in talks to star in Oliver Stone’s adaptation of the Don Winslow novel Savages. If the deal comes through, Lawrence would play the role of “O,” the double-duty girlfriend of buddy pot growers Ben and Chon. For those unaware, Winslow’s Savages focuses on the aforementioned Ben and Chon as they attempt to quietly enjoy the fruits of their weed labors in Laguna Beach. The Savages screenplay was penned by Winslow alongside Shane Salerno (CBS’ Hawaii Five-O and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem) who is also acting as executive producer on the project alongside Stone and Moritz Borman.
While the roles of Ben and Chon have yet to be cast, Deadline reports that actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Johnson, Tom Hardy, Garret Hedlund, and James Franco have all met with Stone regarding the characters. With Stone expected to begin shooting Savages this June, we may be hearing more news on the casting front sooner rather than later. For more on the project, hit the jump to check out a synopsis for Winslow’s novel.
