New Trailer for SUPER 8; New Clips from HARRY POTTER and THE HELP

The MTV Movie Awards are a time for fans to gather round, vote for their favorite massive franchise, and give it a bucket of golden popcorn that’s like an Oscar except no one cares.  No one ever got more clout or more box office from an MTV Movie Award.
It’s also a time to give new looks at upcoming films that will most likely be nominated for awards the following year.  At tonight’s MTV Movie Awards, viewers got a new trailer for Super 8 and new clips from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and The Help.  The Super 8 trailer is more action-heavy than the previous ones, but I’m glad that they’re still not showing the alien.  The Harry Potter clip is short but intense (is it July yet? No? Damn.) and the clip from The Help doesn’t have spectacle, but I’m always happy to watch performances from Emma Stone and Allison Janney.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the clips.  Super 8 opens this Friday.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opens in 3D on July 15th.  The Help opens August 12th. http://collider.com/super-8-trailer-harry-potter-deathly-hallows-2-clip-help-clip/94855/

Five Best Moments From The 2011 MTV Movie Awards

published: 2011-06-05 21:51:29 Author: Eric Eisenberg
I’m going to take this moment to be brutally honest: tonight’s MTV Movie Awards were just plain awful. Host Jason Sudeikis, who is normally pretty damn funny, relied on repetitive Arnold Schwarzenegger jokes for cheap laughs, the skits were awful and every single award was predictable and/or awful (the exception being Emma Stone’s win for Best Comedic Performance). Needless to say, finding five positive moments in tonight’s show was a struggle.

Below you will find a list of the only events from tonight’s show that didn’t cause viewers severe brain damage. It’s worth noting that all five moments, when totaled together, probably equal less than five minutes of the two-hour-plus program. We call them the best moments, but really it’s all relative. Check out our selections below. For a complete list of winners (the people who took home the golden popcorn) and losers (all of us), head over HERE.

Justin Timberlake And Mila Kunis Grope Each Other
Presenting the first award of the night, Best Male Performance, the Friends With Benefits co-stars began by mentioning that they aren’t dating and are, instead, just really good friends. Then the two actors proceeded to make both male and female members of the audience jealous as Timberlake reached out to grab Kunis’ sweater puppies while she returned the favor by grabbing his twig and berries. The moment was almost ruined by Timberlake’s clichéd falsetto voice, but let’s be real here: public genital grabbing always gets a pass.
Foo Fighters Performance
No, their performance didn’t have anything to do with movies directly, but since when are we writing off the Foo Fighters because of technicalities (also, the band was featured in a pretty sick documentary earlier this year). Performing “Walk,” the new single off of their album Wasting Light, the Foo Fighters rocked the house. What is the only sad thing about their performance? They were playing for a crowd of Twilight fans who wouldn’t recognize a great group like the Foo Fighters if the band stood behind them and pelted them with rocks.
Harry Potter Clip
The first trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was the definition of epic, and the clip shown at tonight’s MTV Movie Awards was no different. The scene begins with Voldemort waiting in the woods for Harry to come face him, but believes he is a no-show. That is, until he walks out of the woods to face his fate. “The boy who lives has come to die”: amazing.

Reece Witherspoon’s Advice To Young Girls
On stage to accept this year’s generation award, Witherspoon began her speech by mentioning the infamous kiss between Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson (which made this list last year), but made her own memorable moment as well by delivering a bit of advice. Presumably speaking about the recently leaked pictures of Blake Lively, Witherspoon offered the following: "Hide your face if you're gonna send naked pictures." It’s something the young starlets might want to keep in mind.
Gary Busey In A Hamster Ball
Sure, he was there to present an award to Twilight, but this is still Gary Busey we’re talking about. Arriving to present the award for Best Picture of the Year (according to MTV viewers), Busey rolled on stage in a giant plastic bubble saying that he only accepted the job because the bubble fit through the doors. Sure, it was scripted and not natural Busey-crazy, but he may actually believe that something is wrong with his immune system and stay in that ball for the rest of his life.

2011 MTV Movie Award Winners: Complete Results

published: 2011-06-05 17:44:05 Author: Mack Rawden
The MTV Movie Awards are like a televised drinking game for celebrities. It doesn’t even matter who wins or loses. No one remembers who won a beer pong game from five years ago, just like no one remembers who took home that popcorn statue. The whole point is for movie stars is to show up, have a few laughs with their friends and then call it a night. It sort of sounds like an insult said so overtly like that, but in actuality, it isn’t. There are literally dozens of awards shows every year. The Academy Awards matter. The Golden Globes and Emmys sort of matter. The Independent Spirit Awards have a nice off-beat charm to them. Everything else is mostly a pretentious waste of time, except the MTV Movie Awards that put up no pretense whatsoever. They know exactly what they are, and they’re fine with it. So am I.

Check out the complete list of 2011 MTV Movie Award winners below. Or skip down to the bottom to replay our interactive live blog of the event, in which Cinema Blenders hugged it out while Twilight ran away with everything.

Jamie Campbell Bower, Ed Speleers and Leebo Freeman Up for Role of Jace in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS
by Adam Chitwood Posted: May 16th, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Now that the cast of The Hunger Games is just about set, it’s time to move on to the next teen fantasy/adventure book series film adaptation: The Mortal Instruments. Lily Collins (Priest) is locked as the lead in the Scott Stewart-directed flick. The Wrap reports that Jamie Campbell Bower, Ed Speleers and Leebo Freeman all tested opposite Collins on the Sony lot last week.

Bower is somewhat of a veteran of teen books-turned-films, having appeared in both Twilight (as Caius) and Harry Potter (as Gellert Grindelwald). Speleers is best known for 2006’s Eragon and Freeman is a newcomer. The book series centers on 15-year-old Clary Fray who witnesses a murder only to discover that she has encountered the “Shadowhunters”, a secret tribe of warriors who are on a mission to destroy demons. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the first novel in The Mortal Instruments series.

Rachel McAdams Talks MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, and Working for Terrence Malick
by Christina Radish Posted: May 16th, 2011 at 5:58 pm

It is quite clear that Woody Allen loves Paris, and even though her character in his latest film, Midnight in Paris, is quite the contrary, actress Rachel McAdams admits to loving Paris too. In this romantic comedy set in the City of Lights, Gil (Owen Wilson) is a successful Hollywood screenwriter who is following his dream of becoming a novelist, much like his idols Hemingway and Fitzgerald. When he and his fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams) tag along on a trip to Paris with her father, his literary ambitions seems to annoy everyone and makes them question his focus. When Inez realizes that this is more than just a slight preoccupation for Gil, she begins to question whether or not they still have the same aspirations.

At the film’s press day, Rachel McAdams talked about working with Woody Allen and the type of director he is on set, how much she enjoyed working in and around Paris, working with the First Lady of France (Carla Bruni), and how the best acting advice she’s ever received is just to be as honest and present as you can be. She also talked about reprising her role as Irene Adler for a cameo in Sherlock Holmes 2, and working with director Terrence Malick on a still untitled film. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Seth MacFarlane Rebooting THE FLINTSTONES
by Ethan Anderton Posted: May 16th, 2011 at 1:03 pm

Sure, he’s had cut away jokes in Family Guy referencing everyone’s favorite Stone Age family, but now Seth MacFarlane is giving his full attention to The Flintstones. Deadline reports the animation master is set to reboot the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series as both a TV and film property. Apparently the project has been in the works for sometime now, but there was a lot of red tape to work through, not to mention the fact that the rightholders to the prehistoric cartoon were worried as to how MacFarlane’s bold and sometimes raunchy and controversial brand of humor would be applied to the series reboot. It’s still unclear just how this new cartoon series is going to work, and no broadcast date is set, but the project will be set up at Fox. Honestly, this seems like a risky move, but I’m wholly interested in seeing what a guy like MacFarlane can do with such an iconic property.

First Clip from J.J. Abrams’ SUPER 8
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 16th, 2011 at 2:24 pm

The first clip from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 has gone online. Footage-wise, there’s not much here that you haven’t seen in the trailer. What’s interesting about the clip is the pacing and the camera angles. The clip is paced so quickly that it almost feels abbreviated and of course, there’s plenty of lens flare for no particular reason.

Hit the jump to check out the brief clip. The film stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and Amanda Michalka. Super 8 opens June 10th.

New SUPER 8 Clip
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 16th, 2011 at 9:24 pm

Paramount released the first clip from Super 8 earlier today, and followed up tonight with clip number two. The second clip opens right where the last clip ended, so together you have a full action-packed minute of Super 8, folks. (Actually, based on some choppy editing, I’m guessing they crammed at least couple minutes screentime devoted to kids goofing around with a camera then train crashery into said minute.)

Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, and Amanda Michalka star. Written and directed by J.J. Abrams in collaboration with producer Steven Spielberg, Super 8 opens June 10. Watch both clips after the jump.

3 New Images and 4 Clips from THE AGES OF LOVE Starring Robert De Niro and Monica Bellucci

by Talia Soghomonian    Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 10:31 am

Remember that Bananarama song from the 80s that went something like “Robert De Niro’s waiting, talking Italian”? Well, he really does talk Italian in The Ages of Love, the third installment of Giovanni Veronesi’s comedy Manuale d’amore, De Niro plays an American college professor who moves to Rome and, of course, rediscovers the joys of love with a curvacious woman, played by Monica Bellucci.
An anthology of love stories, Manuale d’amore came out in 2006, followed by Manuale d’Amore 2 (Capitoli Successivi) the following year. With de Niro in the case, here’s to hoping that the film will make it to screen Stateside. It was released in Italy on February 25 and will hit French theaters on June 15.  Hit the jump to read the synopsis and check out some photos and teasers.

New TV Spot for SUPER 8

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 11:04 am

While I’m not crazy about posting TV spots (if you watch TV, you’re gonna see them and see them often), footage for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 has been so scarce that I figure this one is worth sharing.  What’s new in this spot that you didn’t see in the trailer?  Cars are missing their fuse boxes and electrical systems!  Kids screaming “Guys, watch out!” and “Oh my God!”  The trailer may have depicted the movie as a nice throwback to Spielberg’s 80s Amblin films, but this TV spot is all about heart-pounding action.
Hit the jump to check out the TV spot.  Super 8 stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, and Ryan W. Lee.  It opens June 10th.

Rob Lowe to Play Tough Political Operative in KNIFE FIGHT

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 11:28 am

One of Rob Lowe’s most famous roles was as the idealistic and brilliant communications deputy Sam Seaborn on Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing.  Now it looks like he’s going to a much darker place in the political spectrum as Deadline reports that he’s signed on to star in Knife Fight.  Lowe will play the “lead role of a political crisis specialist who plays hard and tough in dealing with various October campaign surprises.”  Lowe clearly has the versatility to make such a role come alive and I’ll be interested to see what he does with it.  In the meantime, you can still see him playing a character involved in politics (or at least governance) as he’s been killing it on Parks and Recreation all season long.
Knife Fight is set to hit theaters in October 2012 to capitalize on the reality show we call our Presidential election.

Michael Fassbender, Steve Coogan, and Robert Sheehan to Star in GOOD VIBRATIONS

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: May 12th, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Michael Fassbender is becoming ubiquitous so thank goodness he’s an incredible actor.  Last month, Fassbender signed on to star in Good Vibrations, which is a biopic about Belfast punk rock legend Terri Hooley. Today, ScreenDaily is reporting that Richard Dormer (Five Minutes of Heaven) will play Hooley while Steve Coogan, Bronagh Gallagher (Tamara Drewe) and Robert Sheehan will co-star.  You’re probably aware of Coogan at this point, but you need to put Sheehan on your radar.  He’s a strong dramatic presence in the Red Riding Trilogy but does a complete 180 to play the scene-stealing jackass Nathan on the British series Misfits.  There was word last month that Fassbender’s Hunger co-star Liam Cunningham would also be in the film, but ScreenDaily makes no mention of him.
The film also has a strong presence behind the camera as Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa (Cherrybomb, which also starred Sheehan as well as Rupert Grint) are directing from a script by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry.  Ocean’s Eleven composer David Holmes will produce and provide the score.  Filming is set to begin this summer.

Vera Farmiga Joins Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in SAFE HOUSE

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 25th, 2011

Filming on Daniel Espinosa’s thriller Safe House is well underway (we showed you some set photos from the film back in early March), but the production has just landed another great actor.  Deadline reports that Vera Farmiga has joined the film, which follows a young agent (Ryan Reynolds) assigned to escort a deadly operative (Denzel Washington) to safety after their safe house is attacked.  According to Deadline, “Farmiga will play a CIA operative supervising Reynolds’ character.”  The film also stars Nora Arnezeder, Ruben Blades, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Cunningham, Tim McGraw, Robert Patrick, and Sam Shepard.
Farmiga recently co-starred in Source Code.   She recently signed on to co-star with Michael C. Hall in Love, Scotch and Death. Her directorial debut, Higher Ground, played at Sundance and will hit theaters this summer. Safe House is due out February 10, 2012.

New images from J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 and Todd Phillips The Hangover Part II have been released.  Don’t expect to see anything shocking or new in the images (and be thankful for that because who wants to be spoiled?) but they provide another look at two of the summer’s biggest movies.
Hit the jump to check out the images.  Super 8 opens June 10th while The Hangover Part II gets released on May 26th.

Johnny Depp Confirmed to Cameo in 21 JUMP STREET

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 25th, 2011

johnny-depp-21-jump-street-slice
It looks like Johnny Depp will be returning to his roots, albeit briefly. After months of wondering whether or not the actor would be appearing in the 21 Jump Street movie, based on the TV show that launched his career, Coming Soon reports that the actor is now confirmed to cameo in the flick. Last we heard, producers were working very hard to find time to fit the one-day shoot into Depp’s schedule, and now it looks like everything worked out.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), the film tells the story of two young cops (Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum) who infiltrate a high school undercover. Alongside Hill and Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson and Dave Franco star, with Rob Riggle in talks to play a villain. 21 Jump Street hits theaters on March 16th 2012.

Paul Greengrass Pushes MEMPHIS Back, Will Next Direct THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY?

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 25th, 2011

After Universal crushingly declined to move ahead with Paul Greengrass’ Martin Luther King Jr. flick Memphis, it looks like the director will be shelving the project for at least a year, and is now looking at other projects. The Bourne director had been working feverishly on Memphis alongside producer Scott Rudin (The Social Network), in hopes of releasing the film next February in time for MLK weekend. Universal pulled the plug for “scheduling reasons,” though many have said that the MLK estate put pressure on the studio to halt the project.
While most expected Greengrass and Rudin to look elsewhere for Memphis financing, Deadline reports that the director will put the film on hold for at least a year and is now looking at other projects. Chief among Greengrass’ prospects is an adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s novel The Deep Blue Good-By. Hit the jump for more.

First Image from Steven Spielberg’s WAR HORSE [Updated with More Images]
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 11th, 2011 at 8:35 am
war-horse-movie-image-jeremy-irvine-slice-01

While it could be nice to say it’s too early to consider any movie as a leading contender in the 2011 Oscar race, I’m pretty sure a Steven Spielberg war movie automatically gets printed on every ballot. Spielberg’s adaptation of the World War I drama War Horse centers on Joey, a farm horse that’s sold to the military and sent to the front lines. With the brutality of the first great war as a backdrop, Joey struggles to make his way home to the farmer’s son, Albert (played by newcomer Jeremy Irvine). DreamWorks has released the first official image from the film and while it doesn’t feature Albert or Joey, it does show off co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock), Patrick Kennedy (Atonement), and Tom Hiddleston (Thor).

Hit the jump to check out the full image along with quotes from Irvine on the film’s production. The film’s impressive cast of British thespians also includes Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell, David Thewlis, Eddie Marsan, and Peter Mullan. War Horse opens December 28th. First Trailer for J.J. Abrams SUPER 8!
by Jason Barr Posted: March 11th, 2011 at 5:41 am

Paramount has released the first trailer for writer/director J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. We will update with our thoughts shortly. In the meantime, we wanted to get the trailer to you ASAP. [Update: Matt here. I think the trailer looks fantastic. It really nails the Amblin vibe that Abrams is going for and I like that there's more of an emphasis on characters and mystery than on special effects. This is one of the few films this summer that isn't a sequel or based off an existing property so I hope that it works out.]

Super 8 stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Zach Mills, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, and Amanda Michalka. The film opens later this year on June 10th. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Darren Aronosky to Produce New Drug Drama INTRICATE for Director Brad Furman [UPDATED]
by CJ Simonson Posted: March 11th, 2011 at 10:34 am

Darren Aronofsky is no stranger to drugs and movies coming together; his 2000 drama Requiem for a Dream is one of the most haunting portrayals of drug addicts ever seen on film. 24 Frames is now reporting the acclaimed director is returning to the world of drugs in a new movie he’s producing entitled Intricate. Brad Furman, the director of the upcoming thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, has been tagged to direct the film, which is based on a true story about a college basketball star who falls into the seedy underbelly of New York’s drug world in the 1990s. Protozoa Pictures, Aronofsky and Black Swan producer Scott Franklin’s production company, will be helping to fund the movie.

[Update: Franklin now tells 24 Frames that while he gave notes on the project and introduced Furman to a screenwriter, Protozoa is not currently attached to produce.]

New Photos From The Hangover Part II; Justin Bartha Says Doug Doesn't Get Lost This Time
published: 2011-03-11 14:56:17 Author: Eric Eisenberg
We've seen quite a few images and even a teaser trailer from Todd Phillips' The Hangover Part II, but each one has made us ponder the exact same question, a question first asked in the 2009 blockbuster: Where's Doug, a.k.a. Justin Bartha? Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helmes) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) have all been part of the marketing, but we've been left wondering if Doug disappearing would play into the plot. While all signs would point to yes, the answer is apparently no.

The print edition of Empire (via The Playlist) recently ran a feature on the upcoming comedy sequel and Bartha says flat out that missing Doug won't be a part of the plot this time around. But just because someone's not lost doesn't mean that their absence doesn't play a part of the bigger picture, the actor saying, "There are similar circumstances, but he’s a little bit more involved." The story also features a bit about the cast's experience off the set in Bangkok, which apparently was almost as crazy as what their character's go through in the movie. Said Cooper, "I didn’t feel like we’d started the movie ‘til we were in Bangkok - things started getting crazy, people started getting sick. We needed to get it into our blood. Literally. On a bacterial level."

The article also came with two new stills which - surprise! - still don't include Bartha as part of the gang. You can check out one of the scans below and head over to The Playlist for the other.

First Official Images From Steven Spielberg's War Horse
published: 2011-03-11 10:45:50 Author: Katey Rich

Anyone keeping an eye on up-and-coming actors out of England will have a lot to enjoy in Steven Spielberg's War Horse, the epic hitting theaters at the end of this year, just weeks after Spielberg's other new film The Adventures of Tintin comes out. The film stars Jeremy Irvine, who was playing a spear carrier with the Royal Shakespeare Company when Spielberg picked him to play the lead, a boy who enlists as a soldier in World War I solely to be reunited with his beloved horse.

Also on board are actors with more familiar film credits, and they're at the center of the first official image from the movie, which ran alongside an interview with Irvine in The Daily Mail. Check out Benedict Cumberbatch (of TV's Sherlock, Four Lions and Atonement), Patrick Kennedy (also of Atonement) and Tom Hiddleston (playing Loki in this summer's Thor) as soldiers on horseback in the image below.

10 New Images from TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: February 6th, 2011

With Paramount releasing an awesome Super Bowl ad for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, I’ve screengrabed my favorite ten images from the commercial and they’re after the jump.
What I love about the new ad is that it shows what Chicago would look like if an alien race invaded.  Say what you will about Bay, there is no other director I’d want handling this movie.  And yes…the image above is Optimus Prime about to slice someone open with his sword.  Included in the ten images are Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Tyrese Gibson.  TF3 gets released July 1, 2011.

J.J. Abrams Talks SUPER 8

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 6th, 2011

Tonight, Paramount aired a new TV spot for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film Super 8 (click here to go watch it).  The notoriously secretive Abrams spoke to Hero Complex about the film because everyone knows that secrecy only matters if a film is six or more months away.  All that’s really been known about the film up to this point is that it will have a 80s Amblin Entertainment vibe that executive producer Steven Spielberg is bringing to the project.  It also takes place in a small fictional town of Lillian Heights, Ohio in 1979, involves a train crash, something trying to escape from the wreckage, and a Super 8mm camera.  Now Abrams has decided to reveal a bit more about the film.
Hit the jump for what he had to say about his highly-guarded project [minor spoilers ahead].  Super 8 is due out June 10th.

Filming on THE HOBBIT Scheduled to Begin on March 21st

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 6th, 2011

On May 30, 2010, we reported that director Guillermo del Toro was leaving The Hobbit because there was no start date in site.  On March 21st, 2011—295 days later—filming on The Hobbit is set to begin with Peter Jackson now at the helm.  The financial mess that kept the film from going in front of cameras has been abated and the movie has a full cast lined up and ready to shoot what will be a two-part film in 3D.  Part 1 of The Hobbit is set for December 2012 and Part 2 is slated for December 2013.  The One Ring reports that “[March 21st] has been chosen following practical considerations of the filming schedule requirements, actor availability and the NZ seasons. Shooting will take place at Stone Street Studios in Miramar and on location around New Zealand.
Hit the jump for a synopsis of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel.  The Hobbit stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, James Nesbitt, Aidan Turner, Jed Brophy, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Mikael Persbrant, Sylvester McCoy, and Elijah Wood.
