Christopher Meloni Up for MAN OF STEEL

Following his surprising exit from NBC’s Law and Order: SVU, Christopher Meloni just landed himself a not too shabby gig. Deadline reports that the actor is currently in negotiations to star in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. There’s no word on what part he’s up for, but the report states that it’s a “major role” (one hopes it involves fridge-humping). Henry Cavill is set as Superman himself, while Amy Adams will take on Lois Lane. Warner Bros. rounded up some A-list talent for Superman’s parents: Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Clark Kent’s adoptive Earth parents, while Russell Crowe is poised to star as biological father Jor-El and Julia Ormond recently entered talks to play his Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van.On the villain side, Michael Shannon will be doing his evil thing as General Zod and Antje Traue is set as Faora. Casting should be close to complete by now, with production set to begin next month in Vancouver. Snyder directs from a script by David Goyer, with Christopher Nolan producing. Robin Williams Rows GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM; Ben Barnes Is THE SEVENTH SON

We have couple of casting bits to bring you this Friday afternoon. First up, Robin Williams has joined writer/director Justin Zackham’s (writer, The Bucket List) wedding comedy Gently Down the Stream. Williams brings another star to an already stellar cast that includes Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, and Katherine Heigl. Per Variety, the Oscar-winning actor will play the role of Father Monaghan in the pic that tells the story of a long-divorced couple (De Niro and Keaton) who pretend that they’re still married for the sake of their adopted son’s upcoming wedding. Rounding out the Gently Down the Stream cast are Susan Sarandon, Patricia Rae, and Ben Barnes. Production on the film is expected to begin this July.
Speaking of Ben Barnes, The Chronicles of Narnia actor has signed on to star alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures fantasy project The Seventh Son. Variety reports that Barnes is in line for the title role (the same one Sam Claffin was once in talks for) which is described as “the seventh son of a seventh son” who learns all things wizard-related. Directed by Sergei Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan), the pic is based on Joseph Delaney’s young adult book series. The first image of John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in the thriller The Raven has landed online. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the film is set in 1849 and stars Cusack as the iconic author/poet who joins forces with a detective in hopes of stopping a murderer who is inspired by Poe’s work. Luke Evans, Alice Eve, and Brendan Gleeson also star in the pic. I’m really liking the Se7en vibe the logline gives and, as a fan of both Poe and Cusack, I’m pretty excited about checking this one out when it hits theaters on March 9th, 2012.

Paul Haggis in Talks to Pen Spy Film Based on Author Daniel Silva’s Character Gabriel Allon

Two-time Oscar-winner Paul Haggis (Crash) is in talks to script a spy film for Universal based on Daniel Silva’s popular character, Gabriel Allon. While possible, it’s unclear whether or not the writer/director would also helm the film given that the project is still in the very early stages of development. For those unfamiliar with the character (a.k.a myself just 30 minutes ago), Allon has appeared in ten of Silva’s novels and is described as a fortysomething Mossad agent who restores art as part of his “quiet job” and covertly investigates terrorist activities as part of his “slightly less quiet job.”
24 Frames reports that the exact details of Haggis’ script are unknown but that Universal is hoping to turn the property into a franchise (surprise, surprise). Former NBC head Jeff Zucker will produce the pic which joins the Bourne franchise as the second spy property in active development at the studio. Lily Cole and Sam Spruell Added to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

Lily Cole (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and Sam Spruell (The Hurt Locker) have joined the ever-expanding cast of director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. Cole and Spruell become the latest in a long line of casting news for the pic which has added the likes of Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, and Ray Winstone this week alone. Per Variety, Cole will play Greta while Spruell will make a turn as Finn, the Queen’s henchman who is responsible for finding and killing Snow White and the Huntsman. In addition to the already mentioned cast, Snow White and the Huntsman also stars Chris Hemsworth (the Huntsman), Charlize Theron (the Queen), and Kristen Stewart (Snow White). Back in November, we learned that Lionsgate was pre-selling rights to a 3D "Silent Hill" sequel, which will be directed by Michael J Bassett (Solomon Kane).
Now comes word that the new film, called "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D," has started shooting today in Toronto, and stars Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"). We also have the first photo of Clemens. Check it out below.
"We are all excited to have the 'Silent Hill' team reunited in Toronto," said producer Samuel Hadida. "With Michael at the helm, we will be building on the first film and taking 'Silent Hill' into new territory with an exciting storyline and visuals that should grab both new audiences and fans of the 'Silent Hill' franchise."
Plot: For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

John Cusack doesn't always make the greatest movies in the world, but the guy is so incredibly likable that it's even easy to sit through some of the worse ones (*cough*2012*cough*) . That in mind, when Cusack gets something great to work with - like Grosse Pointe Blank or High Fidelity - it becomes something truly special. Dictablanda sounds like it could fall into the latter category.
Variety has learned that Cusack has signed on to star in the aforementioned film (which translates from Spanish into "Soft Dictator") that is described as "a screwball comedy of errors." Directed by Alejandro Agresti and based on a script by Agresti, Cusack, Kevin Morris and Paul Hipp, the actor plays a man caught up in an international situation. Hipp, who previously starred with Cusack in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will co-star. Sold with the tagline "People don't die, they get killed" the film is set to go into production later this month in Argentina.
I truly love a well-made screwball comedy, and I must say that Cusack getting a co-writing credit instills great hope (he co-wrote both classic Cusack films that I mentioned above). Let's hope this is one to look out for come next year.

Malin Akerman and Jim Sturgess, both actors known primarily for being attractive more than their actual talent, were in two movies recently in theaters that showed off their genuine acting chops. Akerman currently stars in the fluffy comedy happythankyoumoreplease, showing off surprising depth in an ensemble cast that's mostly pretty shallow, and Sturgess starred in Peter Weir's epic The Way Back, leading with quiet force a cast that included Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan-- no easy feat. In the last few months Akerman and Sturgess have proved that they're far more talented than we might have given them credit for previously, and now the two will be starring together in a film to hopefully prove it again.
According to Bleeding Cool, the two will enjoy some unlikely romance in Wildwood Inn, which will be the directorial debut of actor Christopher McDonald (known as Shooter McGavin Happy Gilmore among many, many other screen roles). The story takes on the somewhat preposterous plot of two couples visiting the same vacation home at different times, learning about each other through the guest book in which everyone writes notes about how much they loved the place, and eventually falling in love with the other partners in the couple. It sounds complicated ,but then again The Lake House-- which involved time travel-- was a hit, so who am I to judge.
No word on who the other halves of the couple will be, or even if Akerman and Sturgess will play an unhappy pair or will fall in love themselves. But for all the people who may doubt the two of them, I'll be looking forward to what they might bring to the screen together.

When the news hit last week that another movie in the Blade Runner was very close to becoming a reality, there was both a lot of groans and excitement among the chattering nerd crowd. With the producers claiming no intention of remaking Ridley Scott's film, just expanding the massive sci-fi universe the movie was set in, it seemed possible they could really take off on the ideas of the first one and make it even bigger; it also seemed possible they could ruin the coolness of replicants and pleasure models forever.
Now io9 has caught up with producers Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Bud Yorkin-- among the only people formally attached to the project, which Alcon Entertainment is financing-- and they're making even more promises about how they won't ruin Blade Runner. While Kosove won't talk specifically about whether or not they've reached out to Ridley Scott, he promises that the director's "blessing to what we're doing is very important to Alcon. It's important to Bud [Yorkin], and certainly we have the greatest degree of respect to him as a filmmaker. He's one of the greatest living directors and one of the greatest directors of all time. So of course he's very important."
The trio wasn't revealing whether or nor they were planning a prequel or a sequel, and with no script in place it seems that they might not actually know; they did promise that replicants will be part of the story, and even went along with speculation that they could make a great prequel by showing the replicant uprising that preceded the first film. And they also name-dropped one of the most successful directors Alcon Entertainment has worked with, Christopher Nolan, in talking about what they want to make of the film:
Note that they're not suggesting they'll bring in Nolan to direct the film-- he's plenty busy with his own stuff anyway-- but just that they're trying to mimic his skill and style. You can read a lot more of what the producers had to say about io9, and decide for yourself if it's encouraging. Something about their enthusiasm strikes me as genuine, and for the first time, I'm wondering if this prequel/sequel idea might work out well after all.

The title is a political term used to describe dictatorships with a high regard for civil liberties and is described as being a "screwball comedy of manners."

Noomi Rapace Talks Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS; Rafe Spall Joins the Cast

Pre-production on director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi flick Prometheus is moving right along, and star Noomi Rapace recently spoke briefly about the film. Scripted by Damon Lindelof (Star Trek), the film began as a prequel to Scott’s Alien before spinning off into a wholly original project. Rapace stars alongside Michael Fassbender (portraying an Andriod) and Charlize Theron. Here’s what Rapace had to say in an interview with MTV:
“I’m jumping into that straight off of [Sherlock Homles: A Game of Shadows]. My character’s name is Elizabeth Shaw, and I’ll step into her shoes in March and be her for six months or something. It’s quite a long shoot. It’s unbelievable.”
In addition, The Daily Mail reports that Rafe Spall (Hot Fuzz) is the latest actor to join the cast. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie had signed on for the film. With director Neil Burger’s Limitless opening March 18, Relativity Media has sent over nine clips which you can watch after the jump. Starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, Anna Friel and Robert De Niro, Limitless has a very cool premise: what if a drug allowed you to use 100% of your brain. You could “recall everything you’ve ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and charm anyone you meet.” Sounds cool doesn’t it. The fact is, with advances in pharmaceuticals happening every day, the premise for Limitless might not be too far off. Maybe we’ll never get to 100%, but I’ll bet you that in the next few decades, scientists will invent some sort of pill that makes you smarter.

John Cusack has signed on to star in the screwball comedy Dictablanda (translated “Soft Dictator”). Cusack co-wrote the script with Kevin Morris and co-star Paul Hipp (Terriers); Cusack and Morris will produce along with Pablo Bossi of Pampa Films. Plot details are vague other than the promise of “international mayhem,” yet the film already has a baffling tagline: “People don’t die, they get killed.” Variety reports that Dictablanda is filming on location in Argentina over the next two months under the direction of Alejandro Agresti (The Lake House).
Cusack recently finished shooting his portrayal of Edgar Allan Poe in the thriller The Raven. The actor has two other films in the can with no set release date in sight: the period piece Shanghai and the crime drama The Factory.

Noomi Rapace Talks Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS; Rafe Spall Joins the Cast

Pre-production on director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi flick Prometheus is moving right along, and star Noomi Rapace recently spoke briefly about the film. Scripted by Damon Lindelof (Star Trek), the film began as a prequel to Scott’s Alien before spinning off into a wholly original project. Rapace stars alongside Michael Fassbender (portraying an Andriod) and Charlize Theron. Here’s what Rapace had to say in an interview with MTV:
“I’m jumping into that straight off of [Sherlock Homles: A Game of Shadows]. My character’s name is Elizabeth Shaw, and I’ll step into her shoes in March and be her for six months or something. It’s quite a long shoot. It’s unbelievable.”
In addition, The Daily Mail reports that Rafe Spall (Hot Fuzz) is the latest actor to join the cast. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie had signed on for the film. With director Neil Burger’s Limitless opening March 18, Relativity Media has sent over nine clips which you can watch after the jump. Starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, Anna Friel and Robert De Niro, Limitless has a very cool premise: what if a drug allowed you to use 100% of your brain. You could “recall everything you’ve ever read, seen or heard, learn any language in a day, comprehend complex equations and charm anyone you meet.” Sounds cool doesn’t it. The fact is, with advances in pharmaceuticals happening every day, the premise for Limitless might not be too far off. Maybe we’ll never get to 100%, but I’ll bet you that in the next few decades, scientists will invent some sort of pill that makes you smarter.

Amanda Seyfried's schedule is plenty packed these days, filming the futuristic thriller Now opposite Justin Timberlake, signing on recently for the kidnapping revenge film Gone, and getting ready to open her revisionist take on Red Riding Hood with director Catherine Hardwicke. But has she made room for one more movie in her lineup, to shoot in Boston this April?
According to Boston film production sources (via Bleeding Cool) she has. They're hearing that director Patrick Alessandrin will be in the area come April to shoot The Bullet, which has Amanda Seyfriend and John Cusack on board to star. Here's the only information available about the plot:
"The dark thriller about a man only known as “The Clockmaker” who devises the ultimate plot of revenge against a seemingly random group of people by manipulating them to kill one another.
No word on whether Cusack will play the killer-- an interesting change of pace I'd actually be interested to see-- or just another one of the victims. Also no confirmation of whether or not the movie is as much of a Saw knockoff as it sounds right now. Both Seyfriend and Cusack have been known to make their share of garbage among actually good movies-- Cusack more than ever these days-- and Alessandrin's one major credit is B-13: Ultimatum, the sequel to the French action film that garnered relatively good reviews.
If the news is even true-- it's hard to confirm information on sites like this, and Bleeding Cool doesn't know anything more than we do-- we might have a bizarre Seyfried/Cusack pairing to look forward to, and also some questions about what was supposed to be Alessandrin's next project, Ten with Bruce Willis. We'll let you know if we figure out more.

Kevin Spacey Was Almost The Bond 23 Villain

In a meet and greet preceding a recent screening of The Usual Suspects, the always brilliant Kevin Spacey dished at length on everything from beating Rafael Nadal at ping pong to roles he narrowly missed out on. One of them, however, is of particular interest. Apparently, both Spacey and director Sam Mendes were particularly excited about the Oscar winner playing the villain in the upcoming Bond 23. His last foray into the seedy underworld, Superman Returns, may not have been the greatest superhero movie of all-time, but honestly, that was hardly his fault.
According to Live for Films, it's Richard III that's at fault for Spacey getting cockblocked out of the role. The theater enthusiast is going on tour with the production right as Mendes takes Bond 23 into filming, creating an unavoidable scheduling conflict. When it comes to choosing between Hollywood and the stage, Spacey has repeatedly chosen the latter. Now, as a result, Javier Bardem, is the man we're all waiting for an answer from.
You may remember Mendes and Spacey worked together on American Beauty and that didn't turn out so bad. Hopefully, if the director's work with James Bond goes over well, he'll consider Lester Burnham for a villain role in the future.

Dimension has released a couple of new high-resolution images from director Wes Craven’s upcoming Scream 4. The film reunites most of the main cast from the original films with Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all returning for another Woodsboro-killing-spree adventure. Joining them in what will hopefully be a return to the meta-horror/comedy of the first film is Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Hayden Panettiere and a number of other awesome people (Kristen Bell! After a superb amateur shot of Spider-Man running through the streets of Downtown L.A. hit the web, other non-professionals have returned to the on-location shoot of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot and captured some great shots from the set.

Director Simon West Wants to Make CON AIR 2

Put the bunny back in the box. Again. While promoting his latest film, The Mechanic, director Simon West let loose a wish of his that is so Earth-shatteringly awesome, it absolutely has to happen. While he’s been at the helm of films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and When a Stranger Calls, West got his start on the 1997 film Con Air. The premise? En route to a different penitentiary, a group of maximum-security prisoners take control of their transport plane. The cast? John Malkovich, John Cusack, Dave Chappelle, Steve Buscemi and Nic Cage. Also, lots and lots of explosions. Awesomeness-overload. In an interview with Crave Online (via Dark Horizons), West expressed his wish for a sequel:
“Con Air 2 I’d like to do. It’d be great. It’s a matter of getting everybody together. There’s so many people involved and it’s about getting everybody to agree. But I’m going to bring it up to Nic. I’m going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we’ll go after the others.”
Though nothing is officially in the works, and at this point the film is merely an idea, if there’s any justice in this Epic Movie-ridden world, Con Air 2 will eventually be made complete with explosions, bunnies in boxes, and a new/fantastic Nic Cage hairstyle.

Yesterday, we brought you an image from the set of the Edgar Allen Poe thriller The Raven that was tweeted by star John Cusack in remembrance of the famed poet’s birthday. Today, it was announced that the film now has a US distributor. Deadline reports that Relativity Media has acquired the US distribution rights to the film. Directed by James McTiegue (V for Vendetta), the film tells the story of Poe teaming up with a detective to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author’s fiancée and gone on a murder spree that recalls Poe’s stories. The events all take place in the days before the poet’s death.
Cusack stars alongside Luke Evans (Tamara Drewe), Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) and Brendan Gleeson. Cross your fingers for more sad-face Cusack pictures from the set as filming continues.
Peter Farrelly Says Benicio del Toro Still Top Choice to Play Moe in THE THREE STOOGES

Although no one has officially signed on yet to the ever-rotating cast of the Farrelly brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & I) The Three Stooges, it looks like the directors have at least set their sights on one cast member for now, Benicio del Toro. Farrelly confirmed Del Toro’s status with the project, as well as addressed what they’re looking for in the audition process:
“Benicio [Del Toro] is the front runner for Moe, but we’ve not made a deal with him yet. Our feeling is that it just can’t be your take on Moe. It’s gotta be Moe. Someone could nail Curly’s mannerisms, but if you’re 130 pounds it probably wouldn’t work.”
Apparently one reason that casting has been held back is that certain actors feel they shouldn’t have to audition for the role given their A-lister status. Hit the jump for more information on the filming of The Three Stooges, as well as past casting rumors.
In a recent interview with The Providence Journal (via The Playlist) Peter Farrelly spoke at length about the project:
“It’s not a biopic. We want to give a matinee feel to it. But none of the studios had any interest in it at the beginning. There was a lot to prove. We even had to show that in the script, despite all the hitting the Stooges were known for, it could be a PG movie.”
The cast has been all over the place for this one. As we previously reported, rumors ran rampant that the cast had been filled out with Johnny Knoxville as Moe, Andy Samberg as Larry and Australian comic Shane Jacobson as Curly.In the end, they turned out to be exactly that—rumors. Prior to that casting news, the original lineup consisted of Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carrey set to play Moe, Larry and Curly respectively. However, Penn suddenly dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and Carrey quickly followed suit. There was even talk at one time of Paul Giamatti possibly picking up Penn’s vacant role as Larry, but as much as I like the guy, I’m not quite sure he would be the right fit for Larry.
Fair to say that at this point, everything still seems very much up in the air. But one thing is clear, these remaining parts will be cast sometime in the very near future. The movie is set to start shooting in Atlanta in April.

John Cusack has tweeted a photo from the set of James McTeigue’s upcoming thriller The Raven. In the film, Cusack plays famous author Edgar Allan Poe. Poe must team with a detective (Luke Evans) after the author’s fiancée (Alice Eve) has been kidnapped by a serial killer who is using Poe’s work as inspiration for a murder spree. Today is Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday so Cusack tweeted an image of Poe’s (presumably) favorite things: chairs bearing his name and bottles of Fiji water. Had Poe not died at the relatively young age of 40 in 1849, he would still be dead as people don’t live to the age of 202.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Red Riding Hood, which opens similarly to the November teaser before it delving deeper into the plot. Amanda Seyfried (Letters to Juliet) stars as Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between a brooding outsider (Shiloh Fernandez) and the wealthy man of her parents’ dreams (Max Irons). Unfortunately, one of them may be the wolf that terrorizes her village. (Such virility is a turn-on, but werewolves are notorious commitment-phobes.) Gary Oldman, Billy Burke, Virginia Madsen, and Julie Christie also star.
Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) directed the gothic re-imagining of the familiar tale; Red Riding Hood is due in theaters March 11. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Alexandre Aja Talks About His Adaptation of the Space Opera Manga COBRA THE SPACE PIRATE

Alexandre Aja is currently writing his next movie, a live-action 3D adaptation of Buichi Terasawa’s popular manga, Cobra the Space Pirate. The Piranha 3D director had already shared his enthusiasm about this project few months ago, and it really seems like a personal goal that he has set for himself. “Cobra is unique. Of all the animés I used to watch as a kid, it’s the most avant-garde, in both rhythm and imagination,” he told French site Cinemateaser.

Cobra, or Kobura, is a manga series written and illustrated by Buichi Terasawa, who apparently drew inspiration from French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, famous for his action-adventure movies from the 60s and 70s. Cobra embarks on a series of adventures himself as he tries to escape his enemies. His tactics include surgically altering his face and erasing his own memory which he later regains. His arm? The Psycho Gun, a weapon that is connected to his brain. He also has a regular gun, just in case. His close confidante is Lady Armaroid, a mechanical cyborg with a really cool name.
The manga originally appeared in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump between 1978 and 1984. It has already been adapted to television as well as the big screen in 1982’s Space Adventure Cobra. But Aja, inspired by his recent mainstream success with Piranha 3D, is aiming for a movie of overambitious blockbuster proportions and continues to compare it with Star Wars.
Considering the volume of material available, it will be quite an undertaking.
“The 25 mangas by Terasawa are incredibly rich. Its tone has no equal. This project is a huge challenge, because it’s going be a space opera. I envision it as a sort of Star Wars. I just have to convince all the financial partners now.”
It’s also fairly unknown in America. Maybe its sexy undertones will attract a larger American audience. And as Aja intends to stay as close to the original work as possible, the sexy bits will surely be depicted in the film.
“You have to respect the essence of Cobra. He’s an adventurer and a seducer. Its ’sexiness’ has to be included in the film, just like its humor and adventure. My Cobra has to remain true to Terasawa’s universe.”
And hopefully to the expectations of the diehard French fans.
“There are so many Cobra fans in France that they’ll understand why I’m so passionate about this and why it’s so essential that I succeed in making this film.”
And he’s already thinking about who will portray Cobra.
“I have a lot of names in mind, but I can’t say anything right now. I’m still thinking about it.”

Johnny Depp in Talks to Replace Robert Downey Jr. in OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

The pairing of Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) Robert Downey Jr. for Oz, the Great and Powerful sounded fantastic from the get-go. But as late as October, we had Downey listed as “unofficially attached.” It turns out his involvement was all too tenuous, as Downey has dropped out of the project. It’s a regrettable turn of events, particularly after the news that a similarly promising collaboration between Downey and Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) for the sci-fi film Gravity was not to be.
But just as George Clooney stepped in to restore the prospects of Gravity, there is a a glimmer of hope for Oz. Thanks to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and last year’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney is BFFs with Hollywood’s most idiosyncratic megastar, Johnny Depp. The studio is eager to get Oz in production later this year, and is currently in discussions with Depp to replace Downey. Of course, fitting the film into Depp’s busy schedule will take some fancy calendar work. Hit the jump for a look at the various projects Depp must schedule, plus background on the film.
Depp will shoot Dark Shadows with Tim Burton this spring. Despite how long the film’s been in development, that start date seems pretty set in stone.
Depp is also attached to star as Tonto in The Lone Ranger, another project that has long been on his to-do list. According to Heat Vision, if Depp commits to Oz, that would necessarily delay Lone Ranger. Plus, there’s always the looming possibility of more Pirates sequels, which would be truly daunting if shot back to back as rumored.
But there is some wiggle room. The Lone Ranger and Pirates are both housed at Disney, and the studio is clearly willing to shuffle all of these project in front of cameras at some point. It’s worth noting that Oz, the Great and Powerful is the furthest along in the development process. The Lone Ranger has a director in Gore Verbinski, but still no is signed to play the titular character. (Depp likes Brad Pitt and George Clooney for the masked cowboy.)
Oz, the Great and Powerful is a prequel of sorts to the familiar Wizard of Oz lore. There is no official start date, but reports suggest Disney wants to begin principal photography this summer. According to Heat Vision, the studio has hired a unit production manager and “begun the task of creating the world of Oz.”

Theodora starts out as a good witch, but after Oz jilts her sexual advances, Evanora — the truly evil witch — convinces Theodora to become an evil witch with her and help her to rule all of Oz.

The Huffington Post offers up the above image of John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in V for Vendetta helmer, James McTeigue's The Raven, and this time it's a more official look than the previous set shot in which Poe was sporting a nice pair of Nike Shox.
The Raven was penned by Ben Livingston (Bruce Almighty) and Hannah Shakespeare (Loverboy) and is described as a fictionalized account of the final five "mysterious" days of Edgar Allan Poe's life. The story will follow the famous writer as he joins the hunt for a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his stories. "It's like the poem, 'The Raven,' itself, crossed with Se7en. It should be pretty cool. The script is really good and everyone responds to it really well. About a month ago we were given our first look at John Cusack sporting his very best goatee in a spy image captured from the set of The Raven, the fictionalized story of Edgar Allan Poe’s final days. Two New Pics of John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in The Raven

Almost exactly a month ago we got our first look at John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in John McTeigue’s The Raven, and while an on set pic of the man looking a little bored is all fine and well we’ve now got a far better look Cusack with the titular bird.
The Huffington Post had the pic, which is complemented below by another from Cusack’s twitter account and he certainly looks the part. The film is termed a psychological thriller based around the mysterious last days of Poe and a serial killer inspired by his works.
And a few hours ago John Cusack tweeted this picture of himself in suitably gloomy circumstances,

Almost exactly a month ago we got our first look at John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in John McTeigue’s The Raven, and while an on set pic of the man looking a little bored is all fine and well we’ve now got a far better look Cusack with the titular bird.
The Huffington Post had the pic, which is complemented below by another from Cusack’s twitter account and he certainly looks the part. The film is termed a psychological thriller based around the mysterious last days of Poe and a serial killer inspired by his works.
And a few hours ago John Cusack tweeted this picture of himself in suitably gloomy circumstances,

Thanks to Monsters&Critics we have a first look at John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in the upcoming movie The Raven, which features Poe who teams up with a detective to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped Poe's fiance and gone on a killing spree which mimics Poe's work.
The image features Cusack dressed as Edgar Allan Poe taking a stroll while filming in the city centre of Budapest, Hungary. Check it out below:
The Raven is directed by James McTeigue and written by Ben Livingston & Hannah Shakespeare, the film co-stars Luke Evans and Alice Eve and is scheduled for a 2011 release.

We now have our first look at John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in the upcoming period-thriller The Raven. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), the story has Poe teaming up with a detective (played by Luke Evans) to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author’s fiancée (Alice Eve) and gone on a murder spree that recalls Poe’s stories.
