**John Cusack To Star In Screwball Comedy Dictablanda **First Look: Adelaide Clemens in "Silent Hill" Sequel

First Look: Adelaide Clemens in "Silent Hill" Sequel
Posted: March 7th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Back in November, we learned that Lionsgate was pre-selling rights to a 3D "Silent Hill" sequel, which will be directed by Michael J Bassett (Solomon Kane).

Now comes word that the new film, called "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D," has started shooting today in Toronto, and stars Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"). We also have the first photo of Clemens. Check it out below.

"We are all excited to have the 'Silent Hill' team reunited in Toronto," said producer Samuel Hadida. "With Michael at the helm, we will be building on the first film and taking 'Silent Hill' into new territory with an exciting storyline and visuals that should grab both new audiences and fans of the 'Silent Hill' franchise."

Plot: For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

John Cusack To Star In Screwball Comedy Dictablanda

published: 2011-03-07 22:09:34 Author: Eric Eisenberg
John Cusack doesn't always make the greatest movies in the world, but the guy is so incredibly likable that it's even easy to sit through some of the worse ones (*cough*2012*cough*) . That in mind, when Cusack gets something great to work with - like Grosse Pointe Blank or High Fidelity - it becomes something truly special. Dictablanda sounds like it could fall into the latter category.

Variety has learned that Cusack has signed on to star in the aforementioned film (which translates from Spanish into "Soft Dictator") that is described as "a screwball comedy of errors." Directed by Alejandro Agresti and based on a script by Agresti, Cusack, Kevin Morris and Paul Hipp, the actor plays a man caught up in an international situation. Hipp, who previously starred with Cusack in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will co-star. Sold with the tagline "People don't die, they get killed" the film is set to go into production later this month in Argentina.

I truly love a well-made screwball comedy, and I must say that Cusack getting a co-writing credit instills great hope (he co-wrote both classic Cusack films that I mentioned above). Let's hope this is one to look out for come next year.

Malin Akerman And Jim Sturgess Will Go For Romance In Wildwood Inn

published: 2011-03-07 16:37:48 Author: Katey Rich
Malin Akerman and Jim Sturgess, both actors known primarily for being attractive more than their actual talent, were in two movies recently in theaters that showed off their genuine acting chops. Akerman currently stars in the fluffy comedy happythankyoumoreplease, showing off surprising depth in an ensemble cast that's mostly pretty shallow, and Sturgess starred in Peter Weir's epic The Way Back, leading with quiet force a cast that included Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan-- no easy feat. In the last few months Akerman and Sturgess have proved that they're far more talented than we might have given them credit for previously, and now the two will be starring together in a film to hopefully prove it again.

According to Bleeding Cool, the two will enjoy some unlikely romance in Wildwood Inn, which will be the directorial debut of actor Christopher McDonald (known as Shooter McGavin Happy Gilmore among many, many other screen roles). The story takes on the somewhat preposterous plot of two couples visiting the same vacation home at different times, learning about each other through the guest book in which everyone writes notes about how much they loved the place, and eventually falling in love with the other partners in the couple. It sounds complicated ,but then again The Lake House-- which involved time travel-- was a hit, so who am I to judge.

No word on who the other halves of the couple will be, or even if Akerman and Sturgess will play an unhappy pair or will fall in love themselves. But for all the people who may doubt the two of them, I'll be looking forward to what they might bring to the screen together.

Producers Share Some Details About The New Blade Runner Film

published: 2011-03-07 06:42:07 Author: Katey Rich
When the news hit last week that another movie in the Blade Runner was very close to becoming a reality, there was both a lot of groans and excitement among the chattering nerd crowd. With the producers claiming no intention of remaking Ridley Scott's film, just expanding the massive sci-fi universe the movie was set in, it seemed possible they could really take off on the ideas of the first one and make it even bigger; it also seemed possible they could ruin the coolness of replicants and pleasure models forever.

Now io9 has caught up with producers Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Bud Yorkin-- among the only people formally attached to the project, which Alcon Entertainment is financing-- and they're making even more promises about how they won't ruin Blade Runner. While Kosove won't talk specifically about whether or not they've reached out to Ridley Scott, he promises that the director's "blessing to what we're doing is very important to Alcon. It's important to Bud [Yorkin], and certainly we have the greatest degree of respect to him as a filmmaker. He's one of the greatest living directors and one of the greatest directors of all time. So of course he's very important."

The trio wasn't revealing whether or nor they were planning a prequel or a sequel, and with no script in place it seems that they might not actually know; they did promise that replicants will be part of the story, and even went along with speculation that they could make a great prequel by showing the replicant uprising that preceded the first film. And they also name-dropped one of the most successful directors Alcon Entertainment has worked with, Christopher Nolan, in talking about what they want to make of the film:

"To be clear, we cannot remake Blade Runner. As a legal matter, we have not bought the remake rights we have no interest in remaking it we can only do prequels or sequels. But I think the methodology that Chris Nolan brought to Batman is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley comes back and joins us or it's someone else. It's precisely what we aspire to with Blade Runner, that's the template for us."

Note that they're not suggesting they'll bring in Nolan to direct the film-- he's plenty busy with his own stuff anyway-- but just that they're trying to mimic his skill and style. You can read a lot more of what the producers had to say about io9, and decide for yourself if it's encouraging. Something about their enthusiasm strikes me as genuine, and for the first time, I'm wondering if this prequel/sequel idea might work out well after all.

Christopher Nolan Wanted for "Blade Runner" Sequel/Prequel

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We just reported that Alcon Entertainment has acquired the rights to "Blade Runner" with plans of developing a sequel or prequel to the original film.

io9 has now caught up with the producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson to find out if they are leaning toward making a sequel or a prequel. "We don't know, we just don't know yet," said Kosove. "We will have a process where we will hear different ideas from writers or from potential directors before determining."

When asked who they would like to direct their new "Blade Runner" film, Kosove replied: "Our friend Chris Nolan who we did 'Insomnia' [with]. The methodology that Chris Nolan brought to Batman is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley [Scott] comes back and joins us or it's someone else."

It's not impossible that Nolan may be in talks. Alcon is a close partner with Warner Bros, which has been behind most of Nolan's films.

Kevin Spacey produced David Fincher's "The Social Network" and the two men are now re-teaming for "House of Cards" television show. Fincher will direct the pilot episode, while Spacey is set to executive produce and star.

"House of Cards" is based on a book by Michael Dobbs. It is set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job. Fincher's version will be set in the US and is written by playwright/screenwriter Beau Willimon (The Ides of March).

In 1990, the book was adapted by the BBC as a mini-series written by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary) and starring Ian Richardson (From Hell). It went on to win a BAFTA award for Richardson and an Emmy for Davies.

"Mad Max" Sequels to Begin Filming in January

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We haven't heard anything about the upcoming "Mad Max" sequels ("Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Mad Max: Furiosa"), which will be shot back-to-back, for a while. But now comes word that production is ready to go.

"We've built the vehicles," said director George Miller. "We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait. We really had nowhere to shoot."

The plan is to begin filming in January of 2012 due to the unpredictable rains that have temporarily ruined the desert of the Australian outback. Once everything clears up, cameras will begin rolling. Tom Hardy (Inception) stars as the title character.

Another "Bridget Jones" Book and Movie in the Works

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Bridget Jones" creator Helen Fielding has confirmed that she is writing the third installment in the best-selling book series. In fact, she recently read three pages from it at Damian Barr's Literary Salon.

Fielding added that a new film has already been discussed. "I will be working on both the book and the film but I don't know if they are the same thing yet," she said. "It's not been decided."

One of the themes of the third book will be Bridget having a mid-thirties baby crisis. And if the film is ever made, Fielding would like to see Hugh Grant and Colin Firth return as Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy. "I think the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun," she said. "We're making a comedy, after all."

**Jennifer Lawrence and Hailee Steinfeld Up for Lead in THE HUNGER GAMES [UPDATED] **Warner Bros. Based Alcon Entertainment Eyes Rights to BLADE RUNNER Prequels and Sequels **Possible Titles for Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT Revealed **Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Headline David Ayer Cop Drama END OF WATCH **Diane Lane Will Play Martha Kent in SUPERMAN

Jennifer Lawrence and Hailee Steinfeld Up for Lead in THE HUNGER GAMES [UPDATED]
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 4:48 pm

To say that director Gary Ross’ (Pleasantville) adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games is being followed closely by fans is a bit of an understatement. Absolutely pivotal to the success of the film adaptation is the casting of the series’ lead role of Katniss. When describing what they were looking for in actresses for the role, Ross previously stated that what makes the character attractive is her strength, assuredness, defiance “and ultimately her compassion.”

The powers that be are currently searching for the right actress, and now word comes that two of this year’s Academy Award nominees, Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) are in the running. Speaking with MTV, Steinfeld confirmed that she’s met with Ross to discuss the role. For much more, including why Lawrence may be the frontrunner, hit the jump. [Update: Variety has confirmed that Lawrence and Steinfeld are vying for the role, with Lawrence generating the most interest. They also add 14-year-old Abigail Breslin to the list of actresses being considered for the part of Katniss.]

Warner Bros. Based Alcon Entertainment Eyes Rights to BLADE RUNNER Prequels and Sequels
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 5:05 pm

Alcon Entertainment, the Warner Bros. based financing and production company is now in final negotiations to acquire the rights to “film, television and ancillary” rights to produced sequels to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner. Though the deal prevents them from directly remaking the original film, Alcon would be free to produce as many sequels and prequels involving the film’s universe as they like. Alcon co-founders/co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove had this to say:

“We are honored and excited to be in business with Bud Yorkin. This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us. We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only.”

If Alcon is spending all that money to nab the rights, you can bet that they definitely have a sequel/prequel story in mind. Only time will tell what it will involve/how closely related it will be to Scott’s original. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Possible Titles for Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT Revealed
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Director Peter Jackson is finally returning to Middle Earth later this month when filming begins on the two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit. While most assumed that the two-parter would simply be titled “The Hobbit”, it looks like there may in fact be a subtitle. TheOneRing.net was hipped to the fact that New Line Cinema recently registered two film titles: The Hobbit: There and Back Again and The Hobbit: An/The Unexpected Journey.

These sound about right. Though, when you tack on the Part One and Part Two, the titles become rather long (I guess Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring isn’t exactly curt). Nevertheless, Peter Jackson is directing The Hobbit, Howard Shore is returning for the score, and the cast includes Martin Freeman as Bilbo, Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, and many more. Shot in 3D, the first part of The Hobbit is slated for a December 2012 release, with the second part following a year later in December 2013.

Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Headline David Ayer Cop Drama END OF WATCH
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Jake Gyllenhaal is in early discussions to star in End of Watch, a gritty cop drama written and directed by David Ayer (Street Kings). Details are scarce, but Variety reports the story centers on the friendship between seasoned partners. Ayer will produce End of Watch with John Lesher; they’re currently putting together financing for the film. No word yet on a potential production date, nor who might play the other partner. The report descri

Gyllenhaal was recently mentioned as one of fifteen candidates for the lead role in The Bourne Legacy. Assuming Universal restricts their consideration to those 15 (they won’t), Gyllenhaal only has a 7% chance at the role. Apart from the generic title, End of Watch sounds like a fine backup plan, and there’s even a role set aside for a fellow Bourne reject. Gyllenhaal will next be seen in Source Code, which opens April 1.

Diane Lane Will Play Martha Kent in SUPERMAN
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 8:24 pm

Diane Lane has signed on to play Martha Kent in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie. Snyder said in a statement:

“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

Henry Cavill (The Tudors) will star as Clark Kent/Superman. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are producers on the film. David S. Goyer is writing the screenplay based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. The untitled Superman film is scheduled for a December 2012 release. Hit the jump for more on possible stars/characters.
