Bradley Cooper to Star in THE WORDS; Jeremy Irons in Talks to Costar

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 10th, 2011

Bradley Cooper will star in the drama The Words.  The film is the directorial debut of writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal (TRON: Legacy).  Words centers on “a writer (Cooper) who, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man’s work.”  Variety reports that Jeremy Irons is in talks to costar.
Cooper will next be seen in Neil Burger’s Limitless where he’ll also be playing a writer.  The in-demand actor is also circling The Silver Linings Playbook, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and an untitled action-comedy with Ryan Reynolds.  Oh, and this May he’ll be in a little movie called The Hangover Part II.  As for Irons, he’ll next be seen in the financial crisis drama Margin Call and the new Showtime series The Borgias.

Trailer for ARTHUR Starring Russell Brand and Helen Mirren

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 10th, 2011

The trailer for Jason Winer’s (Modern Family) remake of Arthur has gone online.  The film centers on a drunken playboy (Russell Brand) who risks losing his inheritance when he falls in love with a woman (Greta Gerwig) his parents don’t like.  The movie looks like it could be fun and I hope someone makes an animated gif of Helen Mirren punching Brand in the face.  While the trailer relies too heavily on familiar tunes (“Rebel Rebel”,  “All Right Now”, and “Under Pressure”), that’s a trailer problem, not something that reflects negatively on the movie.  The jokes they feature got a laugh out of me and I hope they’re not just showing the best of the bunch.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Arthur also stars Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte, and Luis Guzman.  It opens April 8th.  Click here to check out Steve’s interview with Brand where he talks about the film.

Simon West to Direct RED SONJA; Amber Heard Top Choice to Star

A few years ago, a reboot/remake/relaunch of Red Sonja was in the works with Rose McGowan attached to star and Robert Rodriguez producing.  While that adaptation fell apart, producer Avi Lerner still plans to bring the buxom red-headed barbarian back to the big screen.  Lerner tells Empire that they’re planning to shoot Red Sonja after Conan and that Simon West (The Mechanic) will direct:
“We didn’t want to start it until we’d finished Conan,” he tells us, but with confidence in Marcus Nispel’s revivified warrior growing, and a sequel already in development, Lerner reveals that “We will definitely shoot Red Sonja in between Conan and Conan 2. We already chose the director: an English guy called Simon West.”
And who does Lerner see as his new Sonja?  Rising star Amber Heard.  Hit the jump for more on Lerner’s dream casting.

Dimension has released a couple of new high-resolution images from director Wes Craven’s upcoming Scream 4. The film reunites most of the main cast from the original films with Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all returning for another Woodsboro-killing-spree adventure. Joining them in what will hopefully be a return to the meta-horror/comedy of the first film is Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Hayden Panettiere and a number of other awesome people (Kristen Bell! Anna Paquin! Alison Brie!).  Scream 4 will be released on April 15th. Hit the jump to check out the images, and if you missed the new trailer the other day click here.

New Images from SPIDER-MAN Reboot Set; Superhero Seen Racing Through Traffic [UPDATED]

by Talia Soghomonian    Posted: January 25th, 2011

After a superb amateur shot of Spider-Man running through the streets of Downtown L.A. hit the web, other non-professionals have returned to the on-location shoot of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot and captured some great shots from the set.
Hit the jump to check them out. [Updated: We've included new set photos of some web-slinging action of Spidey!]
Here are the images, via Marie Claire (The previous source we credited had stolen the images from Marie Claire. We apologize for directing you to the wrong site).
The web-slinging image come via On Location Vacations.
These are evidently stunt shots, and not photos of Andrew Garfield who is playing the superhero in the movie, as we see Spider-Man running through traffic attempting to catch up with a pick-up truck.

Director Simon West Wants to Make CON AIR 2

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 25th, 2011

Put the bunny back in the box. Again. While promoting his latest film, The Mechanic, director Simon West let loose a wish of his that is so Earth-shatteringly awesome, it absolutely has to happen. While he’s been at the helm of films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and When a Stranger Calls, West got his start on the 1997 film Con Air. The premise? En route to a different penitentiary, a group of maximum-security prisoners take control of their transport plane. The cast? John Malkovich, John Cusack, Dave Chappelle, Steve Buscemi and Nic Cage. Also, lots and lots of explosions. Awesomeness-overload. In an interview with Crave Online (via Dark Horizons), West expressed his wish for a sequel:
Con Air 2 I’d like to do. It’d be great. It’s a matter of getting everybody together. There’s so many people involved and it’s about getting everybody to agree. But I’m going to bring it up to Nic. I’m going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we’ll go after the others.”
Though nothing is officially in the works, and at this point the film is merely an idea, if there’s any justice in this Epic Movie-ridden world, Con Air 2 will eventually be made complete with explosions, bunnies in boxes, and a new/fantastic Nic Cage hairstyle.
