New Trailer and Images for British TV Movie NEVERLAND

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: June 10th, 2011

Though we’ve seen several iterations of the Peter Pan tale from Disney’s animated adventure to the Steven Spielberg’s sequel story Hook, audiences never seem to tire of the boy who doesn’t want to grow up. Well Sky Movies over in the United Kingdom is delivering Neverland, yet another take on the story, but this version follows the never-before-told story of how Peter Pan became the Boy Who Never Grew Up. The cast includes Rhys Ifans (who’s playing the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man) Anna Friel from Pushing Daisies, Charlie Rowe as Peter, Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinkerbell and Bob Hoskins playing Smee (just like he did in Hook). Unless you’re in the UK with a subscription to Sky Movies this July, you might be waiting a while to check this one out, but you can see the cool trailer after the jump along with some new images from the film. neverland-tv-movie-image-anna-friel-01

Shia LaBeouf Pretends INDIANA JONES 5 Is Happening Soon; Says He Won’t Return for TRANSFORMERS 4

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 10th, 2011

So does anyone want to talk to Shia LaBeouf about his role in John Hillcoat’s upcoming Prohibition-era drama The Wettest County in the World?  Of course not!  We want to hear about sequels both real and imagined.  Let’s start with the imagined: LaBeouf tells MTV that he thinks Indiana Jones 5 is “not so far off” because—wait for it—Harrison Ford is going to the gym and George Lucas is ruminating on a MacGuffin.  Wow.  I’m amazed cameras haven’t already started rolling with that kind of pre-production movement.
In slightly more substantial but not wholly surprising sequel news, LaBeouf says he won’t return for a fourth Transformers film and he doesn’t expect director Michael Bay to return either.  I imagine you can only yell “Optimus!” so many times before it starts to sound silly.  Speaking to MTV, LaBeouf says, “It still is a hot property, I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they’ll reboot it at some point with someone else.”  Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 3D on June 29th. http://collider.com/shia-labeouf-indiana-jones-5-transformers-4/95822/

Robin Wright Joining Kevin Spacey in Netflix’s HOUSE OF CARDS

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: June 10th, 2011

Back in March we learned that the remake of the British miniseries House of Cards with a pilot directed by David Fincher would not end up at HBO or AMC, but rather the DVD mailing and streaming video service Netflix picked up the new seires. The growing company beat out the big cable networks for the promising series starring Kevin Spacey, and now another talent has just joined the mix. THR reports Robin Wright is in negotiations to take the lead female role in the new series which takes the British political drama and moves it to the United States. focused on a former Conservative Party chief of staff who follows a hungry politician who wants to be the new Prime Minister at the end of Margaret Thatcher’s term. It’s not clear what will be the focus of this new version in the US, but I’m guessing it will be something akin to The West Wing.
Anyway, the series is expected to begin production on the first 13 episodes of a 26-episode commitment in the spring of 2012, and Netflix will stream the series exclusively starting later that same year. It’ll be interesting to see how many of Netflix’s subscribers flock to the series, but with 20 million of them, I’m sure a decent number (myself among them) will be interested in a series with this kind of talent behind it.  http://collider.com/robin-wright-house-of-cards/95808/

New Set Photos from THE HUNGER GAMES, PIRANHA 3DD, and GRAVITY [UPDATED]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 10th, 2011

piranha-gravity-set-photo-slice
New set photos from The Hunger Games, Piranha 3DD, and Gravity have leaked online.  The Hunger Games photos show some of the buildings like the Hall of Justice, an insignia that fans of the book will probably recognize (I’m reading the book soon!  I have a long plane ride ahead of me!), and a first look at Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket.  The Piranha 3DD set photos show the water park where the sequel’s mayhem will go down (how does a freshwater fish survive in a chlorinated water park?  Fuck you, that’s how) as well as some grisly corpses.  Finally, the set photos from Gravity aren’t really set photos as much as they simply provide a first look at Sandra Bullock with her character’s short hair and bruise make-up.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The Hunger Games is set for March 23, 2012.  Piranha 3DD opens November 23rd.  Gravity currently has no release date, but expect it in 2012.

**Mike Figgis to Direct SECONDS OF HAPPINESS; Christina Hendricks, Julia Stiles, and Matt Dillon Join Cast **SILENT HILL Stars Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger Return for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D; New Image Released **Netflix Negotiating Deal to Distribute HOUSE OF CARDS Starring Kevin Spacey; David Fincher to Direct Pilot

Mike Figgis to Direct SECONDS OF HAPPINESS; Christina Hendricks, Julia Stiles, and Matt Dillon Join Cast
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 15th, 2011
Director Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) has stepped in to replace Neil LaBute in an adaptation of LaBute’s collection of short stories, Seconds of Happiness. The frame of the narrative takes place on an airplane and examines the interconnecting lives of various passengers through vignettes. Clearly, this will be just like Lost. Deadline also reports that Brendan Fraser and Kristen Scott Thomas will be joined by Christina Hendricks, Julia Stiles, and Matt Dillon. Hendricks will play a woman who catches her husband (Fraser) in a “compromising position.” Because I’ve never read LaBute’s book but have seen every episode of Lost, I imagine Fraser’s position has something to do with pushing a button every 108 minutes. LaBute is still on board to produce and shooting is expected to begin this summer.

Hendricks recently signed on to star in the ensemble comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It while Dillon is attached to co-star in Roman Polanski’s God of Carnage and Matthew Weiner’s You Are Here. Stiles recently co-starred on Showtime’s Dexter. Hit the jump for the synopsis of Seconds of Pleasure.

SILENT HILL Stars Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger Return for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D; New Image Released
by Dave Trumbore Posted: March 15th, 2011
Five years ago, the original adaptation of the atmospheric, survival-horror videogame Silent Hill hit theaters with less than blockbusting results. However, since people tend to love multiple sequels to these games-turned-movies (see the Resident Evil series), it’s no surprise that Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has already started filming. Alongside up-and-comers Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington, the sequel will see the return of Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger, all of whom played characters who managed to survive to the end of Silent Hill. Here’s the synopsis:

For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

Hit the jump for the full press release and a new image from the upcoming film.

Netflix Negotiating Deal to Distribute HOUSE OF CARDS Starring Kevin Spacey; David Fincher to Direct Pilot
by Jason Barr Posted: March 15th, 2011
In what could go down as a watershed moment in the history of television distribution, Netflix is in ongoing negotiations to distribute Media Rights Capital’s drama series House of Cards. Starring Kevin Spacey (who also acts as an executive producer), the series’ pilot will be directed by David Fincher (The Social Network) who is an exec. producer on the show as well. Per Deadline, Netflix outbid other potential suitors such as HBO and AMC by offering the series an unheard of two season (26 episode) commitment.

As that report points out, when taking into consideration House of Cards‘ hefty per episode budget of $4-$6 million as well as the marketing efforts involved in launching a series of its magnitude, Netflix is believed to have committed over $100 million to what would it be its first delve into the original programming market. For more on the deal and the series itself, hit the jump.

Elizabeth Hurley Cast as the Villain in WONDER WOMAN Pilot [UPDATED]

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: March 3rd, 2011

We’ve already heard that Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki has snagged the role of Wonder Woman for NBC’s new TV series adaptation of the DC Comics character, but who will she be facing off against? Now we have half of the answer as Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) updated her Twitter feed saying,
“Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait.”
Of course what we don’t know is what villain she would be playing in the series. She’ll certainly bring the sex appeal to whatever role she’s taking, but as far as I know, Wonder Woman doesn’t really have an arch nemesis in the way that Superman has Lex Luthor. In a quick search, I think my favorite choices would be Cheetah or Baroness von Gunther. Either way, I’m not all that familiar with the hero’s long line of villains, so I’ll leave it up to you guys. What villain do you think Hurley will play in the pilot? [Update: Deadline reports that Hurley will play "Veronica Gale, the beautiful, highly-educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with the serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy."]

Julianne Moore and Olivia Thirlby Join ANOTHER BULLSHIT NIGHT IN SUCK CITY

Julianne Moore and Olivia Thirlby have joined the cast of Paul Weitz’ adaptation of Nick Flynn’s memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City.  Paul Dano will play a young writer who runs into his homeless father (played by Robert De Niro) while working at a Boston shelter.  The Film Stage discovered that Moore was in the film by coming across as casting call for the actress’ stand-in.  Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Thirlby will play the love interest who helps Dano get a job at the shelter.
Julianne Moore recently signed on to the vampire thriller Innocence with Abigail Breslin.  As for Thirlby, she recently wrapped shooting on the sci-fi action flicks Dredd and The Darkest Hour.

Kevin Spacey to Star in David Fincher’s Remake of the British TV Series HOUSE OF CARDS

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: March 3rd, 2011

Way back in October of 2009 we heard director David Fincher (The Social Network) was behind a series remake of the British miniseries House of Cards. Set at the end of Margaret Thatcher’s tenture as the British Prime Minister, the original version focused on a former Conservative Party chief of staff who follows a hungry politician who wants to be the new Prime Minister. Fincher’s version moves the drama to the United States, but still focuses on on the issues of political ambition and blackmail.
Today, Deadline reports Kevin Spacey will star in and also executive produce the series with his producing partner Dana Brunetti (who also produced The Social Network). With an amazing actor like Spacey being brought into the mix with a script from writer Beau Willimon (the writer behind the political drama The Ides of March), it sounds like we’re in for one hell of a series. House of Cards doesn’t yet have a network home, but here’s hoping it ends up on AMC or HBO.

Trent Reznor to Score and Co-Star in ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER?

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: March 3rd, 2011

Trent Reznor picked up an Oscar for his terrific score to The Social Network and he’s set to score David Fincher’s follow-up, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. So what comes after an Oscar and providing the music to an adaptation of a best-selling novel?  Apparently for Mr. Reznor, it’s doing the music and co-starring in a 3D vampire movie.
Badass Digest reports that Reznor will not only provide the score for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, he’ll also play the bloodsucker that offs Lincoln’s mother and sets the 16th president on his path of vampire destruction.  The film is based off the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who previously wrote the mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Grahame-Smith’s novel.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter stars Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, and Dominic Cooper.  It opens in 3D on June 22, 2012.

Christopher Nolan Wanted for "Blade Runner" Sequel/Prequel

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We just reported that Alcon Entertainment has acquired the rights to "Blade Runner" with plans of developing a sequel or prequel to the original film.

io9 has now caught up with the producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson to find out if they are leaning toward making a sequel or a prequel. "We don't know, we just don't know yet," said Kosove. "We will have a process where we will hear different ideas from writers or from potential directors before determining."

When asked who they would like to direct their new "Blade Runner" film, Kosove replied: "Our friend Chris Nolan who we did 'Insomnia' [with]. The methodology that Chris Nolan brought to Batman is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley [Scott] comes back and joins us or it's someone else."

It's not impossible that Nolan may be in talks. Alcon is a close partner with Warner Bros, which has been behind most of Nolan's films.

David Fincher to Direct Kevin Spacey in "House of Cards" TV Series

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Kevin Spacey produced David Fincher's "The Social Network" and the two men are now re-teaming for "House of Cards" television show. Fincher will direct the pilot episode, while Spacey is set to executive produce and star.

"House of Cards" is based on a book by Michael Dobbs. It is set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job. Fincher's version will be set in the US and is written by playwright/screenwriter Beau Willimon (The Ides of March).

In 1990, the book was adapted by the BBC as a mini-series written by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary) and starring Ian Richardson (From Hell). It went on to win a BAFTA award for Richardson and an Emmy for Davies.

"Mad Max" Sequels to Begin Filming in January

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
We haven't heard anything about the upcoming "Mad Max" sequels ("Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Mad Max: Furiosa"), which will be shot back-to-back, for a while. But now comes word that production is ready to go.

"We've built the vehicles," said director George Miller. "We've designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It's all ready to go. We just wait. We really had nowhere to shoot."

The plan is to begin filming in January of 2012 due to the unpredictable rains that have temporarily ruined the desert of the Australian outback. Once everything clears up, cameras will begin rolling. Tom Hardy (Inception) stars as the title character.

Another "Bridget Jones" Book and Movie in the Works

Posted: March 4th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Bridget Jones" creator Helen Fielding has confirmed that she is writing the third installment in the best-selling book series. In fact, she recently read three pages from it at Damian Barr's Literary Salon.

Fielding added that a new film has already been discussed. "I will be working on both the book and the film but I don't know if they are the same thing yet," she said. "It's not been decided."

One of the themes of the third book will be Bridget having a mid-thirties baby crisis. And if the film is ever made, Fielding would like to see Hugh Grant and Colin Firth return as Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy. "I think the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun," she said. "We're making a comedy, after all."
