Chris Klein Talks AMERICAN REUNION

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: July 1st, 2011

Writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) have managed to bring every major cast member back for the fourth entry in the American Pie franchise, American Reunion. The film is currently shooting, and actor Chris Klein recently spoke a bit about what to expect from the film and where his character Oz is now:

[Oz] has moved to a beach house in Malibu. He’s found his way to Hollywood, where he works as a sportscaster on an NFL show. And he has a young girlfriend, Mia, played by Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), who is really, really funny. He gets his invite to the reunion and decides to go with his girlfriend.”
Hit the jump to see what else he had to say about the sequel. In addition to Klein, the film reunites Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge and Shannon Elizabeth. http://collider.com/chris-klein-american-reunion/100022/

Adrianne Palicki to Play Lady Jaye in G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 1st, 2011

Adrianne Palicki will play the female lead in Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.  According to Deadline, Palicki will play Lady Jaye (pictured above in what I seriously doubt is an approved military uniform).  The cast for the film continues to fill out as Paramount positions the sequel to be one of their summer 2012 tentpoles.  Palicki joins returning cast members Channing Tatum (who plays Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) along with new recruits Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), RZA (Blind Master), D.J. Cotrona (Flint), and Elodie Yung (Jinx).  One of the major roles yet to be cast is original G.I. Joe, Joe Colton.  Deadline reports that Bruce Willis is the top choice for the role and he would certainly add some star power to the flick.
Hit the jump for a brief bio on Lady Jaye.  G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes opens August 10, 2012. http://collider.com/gi-joe2-adrianne-palicki-lady-jaye/99998/

Ben Foster Joins PROMETHEUS? Official Synopsis Revealed

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 1st, 2011

Ridley Scott’s Alien-prequel-but-not-an-Alien-prequel Prometheus already has a stellar cast.  The sci-fi flick features Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce, and now JoBlo is reporting that Ben Foster has signed on.  Almost everything about the film is being kept under wraps so we don’t know what role he’ll play, but Foster is a fantastic addition to any cast.
We’re still awaiting official confirmation from Fox on Foster’s casting, but the studio has dismissed yesterday’s rumored synopsis. Instead, they’ve provided an official synopsis which deserves some kind of award for vagueness.  Here’s what the synopsis tells you definitively: the movie takes place in outer space (and we already knew that).  Hit the jump to read the synopsis and learn nothing.  Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8, 2012. http://collider.com/prometheus-ben-foster-synopsis/99966/

"Alien" Prequel Plot Synopsis Revealed?

Posted: July 1st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel, called "Prometheus," is a top secret project for the director and 20th Century Fox. While bits of information have leaked out through interviews, we have yet to piece together the plot of the film.

Now, AlienPrequelNews has got their hands on a possible and every detailed plot synopsis for "Prometheus." And while we don't know if this plot is accurate, it seems to fit perfectly with everything that we've previously heard. Read at your own risk.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Earth. Year 2058.

Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God’s home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their "children," their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.

As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it's not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods' power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.

On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission. Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.

First Look: Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway in "The Dark Knight Rises" Set Video

Posted: July 1st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Christopher Nolan is currently shooting "The Dark Knight Rises," the third film in the franchise. And while he tries really hard to keep as much of the story secret as possible, there are always people who are able to take a photo or a video of the filming.

Today we have a video of a rainy scene in which Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) knocks on the door of a house, but get no answer. At that point, Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) walks up and they leave together. Check out the video below.

The hand-holding may indicate that that there is a romantic part to their relationship. And it's likely that they'll also team up as Batman and Catwoman, clearing up why Michael Caine previously said that Batman and another character will leave the mansion to fight crime.

Martin Scorsese’s HUGO CABRET Becomes HUGO

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 30th, 2011

hugo-book-cover-slice-01
The title of Martin Scorsese’s 3D family film Hugo Cabret has been reduced by 50 percent. Variety’s Jeff Sneider reports that the movie will now simply be called Hugo.  The title was already shortened from its source material, Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret.  I’m not sure why the title was cut down but I’m sure there’s a focus group out there that said they would be more willing to see a movie called “Hugo” than “Hugo Cabret”.  As we all know, focus groups are always right.
The film has Asa Butterfield playing the eponymous character, a young boy secretly living in a train station in 1931 Paris.  When he gets caught up in a magical adventure, his secrets are put in jeopardy.  The impressive cast also includes Chloe Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Emily Mortimer, Christopher Lee, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jude Law.  Hugo is set for release on November 23rd and I’m betting we can expect to see the first trailer soon. http://collider.com/hugo-cabret-title-shortened/99722/

International Trailer for TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 30th, 2011

It may be a spy thriller, but Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John Le Carre’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy could have some juice this awards season.  Focus Features has set the flick for November 18th and buzz is already building up around Gary Oldman’s performance as George Smiley, a semi-retired spy tasked with rooting out a mole in MI-6.  The powerhouse cast also includes Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Graham, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The international trailer for the film has been released and it looks like Alfredson has really nailed the suspense of the story while side-stepping the predictable tropes of the spy genre.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Toby Jones and John Hurt.  Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy opens in the UK on September 16th, and it’s possible the flick could show up at the Venice Film Festival and/or the Toronto International Film Festival. http://collider.com/tinker-tailor-soldier-spy-trailer-international/99717/

Michael Bay's Next is $20 Million "Pain and Gain" About Criminal Bodybuilders

Posted: June 30th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Two years ago, Michael Bay was planning to make a small movie called "Pain and Gain" before taking on the third "Transformers" installment. Paramount didn't like that plan and convinced Bay to make "Transformers 3" first.

Now that the director has completed his trilogy, he is looking forward to getting back to work on "Pain and Gain." "I'm still going to do it," he told MTV, adding that the film will likely cost around $20 million. "I'm going to do it next."

The movie is based on a 1999
Miami Heard article called "Pain and Gain" about criminal bodybuilders. Here is how the story is being described: "They were local bodybuilders with a penchant for steroids, strippers and quick cash. And they became experts in the use of a particular motivational tool: Torture."

Bay also said that he's still interested in developing a third "Bad Boys" installments. "We talk about it," he revealed. "It's hard to get our schedules together but it's great working with those guys."

Official Synopsis For Prometheus Revealed, Ben Foster Joins The Cast

published: 2011-06-30 22:23:34 Author: Eric Eisenberg
There's been an awful lot of secrecy and security surrounding Ridley Scott's Prometheus, a film that may or may not be a prequel to his 1979 classic Alien. Earlier today, however, a tipster revealed quite a bit about the plot, but there has been a lot of questioning in regard to its validity. Now 20th Century Fox has finally released its first plot synopsis for the film to combat the validity of the leaked story, but unfortunately it doesn't exactly deliver any answers one way or the other.

Picked up by JoBlo, the synopsis itself is only 70 words (26 of which are dedicated to stroking Ridley Scott's ego) and it largely consists of filler adjectives. While you might feel excited reading it, closer examination will have you questioning why. Here it is:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
Outside of explaining that the movie is a science fiction tale about people on a distant world - things we already know - this is about as bland a synopsis that you will find. Even stranger, it doesn't do anything to undermine the leaked description from earlier today, which was the whole point of it's release. The paragraph doesn't even list the movie's stellar cast, which has apparently gotten bigger.

In addition to posting the synopsis, JoBlo has also learned that Ben Foster has joined the film's ranks. Whether it's a late-in-production addition or something we just didn't know about, the casting of Foster makes the established list of actors, which includes Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender, even better. The project will only be the actor's second venture into the sci-fi genre, having starred in 2009's Pandorum. Still in production, the film is set to be released on June 8, 2012.

John Malkovich Needs Another Pig, RED Sequel Plans To Bring Back Cast

published: 2011-06-30 13:45:44 Author: Josh Tyler
Bruce Willis’s retired hitman movie RED was a lot more fun that expected, due in no small part to a scene stealing performance from John Malkovich, and it did surprisingly well at the box office too. I suspect its solid earnings may have something to do with elderly people showing up to see people their own age kick ass. “RED” stands for Retired and Extremely Dangerous, and when I showed up to see the movie a couple of weeks into its theatrical run I was by far the youngest person in its audience.

Old people love to see their peers shooting younger people in the head, apparently, so Summit Entertainment is churning out a sequel. MTV caught up with RED producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura who offered an update on what it’ll be all about. They plan to bring back the previous cast, which means you should expect to see Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich back and packing heat at the least. I guess they’ll likely bring back Mary Louise Parker too. But di Bonaventura also says they want to “freshen” the cast up, which means adding new faces into the mix. He says, “We'll bring in one or two characters that'll play a really big part — maybe three, but definitely one or two.”

Once they work out the math, they’ll still keep the focus on the original movie’s primary characters. Lorenzo explains, “Sometimes there's a tendency to want to do too much of a good thing so you don't really service anything, so we're really trying to stay focused on our core crew with one or two new additions.”

So what’ll it be about? He’s not talking, I guess they’ll have to find some way to drag everyone out of retirement, yet again. John Malkovich is going to need another pig.

Colin Firth's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy Trailer Kills Our Man In Istanbul

published: 2011-06-30 11:44:00 Author: Josh Tyler
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy gathers most of the best actors in Great Britain together on screen and drops them in what appears to be the coolest possible version of a Cold War era spy movie. The film’s first international trailer has arrived, and it’s everything you could hope it would be.

A remake of the same named 1979 spy thriller, the movie stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, and Toby Jones. In this version an espionage veteran named George Smiley is forced out of retirement to hunt down a Soviet agent hidden within MI6.

Watch the Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy trailer:
Any time someone says “they’ve killed our man in Istanbul” I’m in. In a week full of some pretty great trailers, this may be the best. Wonder why this trailer looks so good? It’s directed by Tomas Alfredson, who proved he gets gritty, period specific films with Let the Right One In.

Look for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in theaters November 11th of this year.

Noomi Rapace Bringing Iconic Swedish Singer Anita Lindblom's Story To Screen

published: 2011-06-30 09:00:39 Author: Sean O'Connell
To some, she’ll always be Lisbeth Salander, techno-goth hacker heroine of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling Millennium trilogy. Yet while David Fincher continues to prep an American adaptation of the hit Swedish film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo original Lisbeth Noomi Rapace continues to line up projects that challenge her creatively and expand her acting resume.

Rapace wrapped work on Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes sequel, A Game of Shadows, with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and continues to film Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller Prometheus. But after that project, Rapace has agreed to film an as-yet-untitled biopic of iconic Swedish singer Anita Lindblom for Twilight and Red Riding Hood director Catherine Hardwicke. And in a strange twist of fate, Rapace’s husband, Ola Rapace, will play Lindblom’s husband, boxer Bosse Högberg.

Lindblom had a massive hit in 1961 with Sån’t är livet, which was a cover of Roy Hamilton’s You Can Have Her. But Hardwicke’s film, according to ScreenDaily, will focus more on the tabloid-fueling love affair waged between Lindblom and Högberg that captivated Sweden in the 1960s and turned the duo into overnight celebrities.

The obvious challenge would be selling the film in the States, where Lindblom and Högberg’s story has no cultural impact. But the biopic calls to mind Olivier Dahan’s 2007 take on Edith Piaf’s life for La Vie en Rose, which introducing mainstream audiences to Marion Cotillard and earned the beautiful French actress an Oscar for her fearless turn. If handled properly, a Lindblom biopic could have the same effect on Rapace … though between Sherlock Holmes and Prometheus, she might already be a global sensation by the time Hardwicke’s picture makes its way to the screen.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  Contraband is currently filming in New Orleans and also stars Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Diego Luna, and Giovanni Ribisi.  The film is currently set for release on March 16, 2012.

Just one of many films that will have their trailer featured during the Super Bowl on Sunday is Limitless starring Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Abbie Cornish, and now you can check out the TV spot a couple days early. Limitless centers on a struggling writer (Cooper) who takes a special drug that allows him to utilize his entire mental capacity. Regardless of the fact that the premise doesn’t make sense (that’s not how brains work, fyi), the film looks like it could have the potential to be a fairly engaging thriller. Hit the jump to check out the TV spot.

John Singleton to Direct Liam Hemsworth in BROKEN RUN

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: December 1st, 2010

The Hemsworth brothers aren’t stars yet, but Hollywood is intent on making them household names by the end of 2011.  Chris Hemsworth is set to make the biggest splash cinematically possible as the lead in Thor.  The rise of younger brother Liam Hemsworth is a bit more gradual, with roles in Knowing and The Last Song over the last two years.  Next year brings him into stage two as the lead in the period epic Arabian Nights.
According to TheWrap, Hemsworth will follow up Arabian Nights with Broken Run,  a political thriller set in Washington D.C.  Hemsworth is attached to star, and John Singleton (Four Brothers) is attached to direct.  If the project lines up a buyer, Jay Longino and Michael Browning are on tap to write the script.  Singleton recently wrapped production on the Taylor Lautner thriller Abduction.

Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi Join Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale in CONTRABAND

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: December 1st, 2010

Ben Foster (The Messenger) and Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar) are in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale in Contraband, the American remake of Iceland’s Reykjavic-Rotterdam.  Wahlberg stars as a busted smuggler who becomes a security guard; in the face of financial troubles, he undertakes one last job.
According to Variety, Foster will play Wahlberg’s brother-in-law.  No details yet on who Ribisi might play.  (Any Icelanders have a guess?)  Baltasar Kormákur, who produced, co-wrote, and starred in the 2008 original, will produce and direct the remake.  Hit the jump for the official synopsis of Reykjavic-Rotterdam.

Like a fish on a dry land, Kristofer is stuck in a dull everyday routine, working as a security guard. He got fired from the freight ship he worked on, when he was caught smuggling alcohol. Faced with money problems, he is tempted to accept the help of his friend, Steingrimur, who manages to pull some strings to get his old job back. He decides to take his chances one last time on a tour to Rotterdam

Foster will next be seen opposite Jason Statham in The Mechanic, with Rampart on the horizon.  Ribisi has The Rum Diary in the can, and has been linked to St. Vincent.

Johnny Depp Likes Brad Pitt or George Clooney to Play THE LONE RANGER

by Jeff Ames    Posted: December 1st, 2010

With Pirates of Caribbean director Gore Verbinksi officially attached to direct the big screen version of The Lone Ranger, it’s no surprise attention is now focused on who will play the titular hero himself. The newest names to hit the pot come from none other than Tonto himself — or star Johnny Depp:
“There’s so many interesting possibilities out there. Brad [Pitt] would be great. [George] Clooney would be great. Don’t know who it’s going to be just yet.”

Depp is currently filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with director Rob Marshall for a May 20, 2011 release. Pitt has a slew of upcoming films including the long-awaited Tree of Life from director Terrence Malick, which opens on May 27, 2011. The Lone Ranger is set for a 2012 release. Hit the jump for more.
The suggestion makes sense as Depp would likely have bumped into Pitt while filming The Tourist with the Inglourious Basterds’ wife Angelina Jolie – he would know better than anyone whether Pitt’s acting sensibilities would play off his own. Still, while Depp may have quite a bit of pull in Hollywood, the decision will likely rest in the hands of Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
I remain cautiously optimistic about The Lone Ranger, especially considering its long-delayed pre-production process. It took nearly three years for Verbinski to officially climb on board, even after the inclusion of box office behemoth Johnny Depp. Personally I wish Verbinski had taken the directing gig on the big screen adaptation of the video game BioShock (though Juan Carlos Fresnadillo remains a solid choice), something that more soundly fits his directing abilities.
Still, this latest rumor suggests a rather unique take on the legendary series, especially in regards to its depictions of Native Americans.  Depp explains to Entertainment Tonight:
“Native Americans in cinema, over the past however many decades, have been treated somewhat shabbily. This one has plans to rectify that.”

Hmmm … the whimsical (even comedic) tone of Pirates meshed with the down-to-earth realism of Dance with Wolves? Starring Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp? I’d pay to watch that.
Here’s a synopsis of the TV show:
The title character is a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West, originally played by George Seaton (radio), but more famously by Clayton Moore (television), who gallops about righting injustices with the aid of his clever, laconic Native American companion, Tonto played by (amongst others) John Todd, Roland Parker, and (in the television series) Jay Silverheels. Tonto usually referred to the Lone Ranger as Kemo Sabe, meaning “trusty scout”.  Departing on his white horse Silver, the Ranger would shout “Hi-yo, Silver, away!” as the horse galloped toward the setting sun, followed by someone asking “Who was that masked man, anyway?” “Why he’s the Lone Ranger.” [Wikipedia]

New Posters for THE MECHANIC, TRUE GRIT, and GNOMEO & JULIET

by Bill Graham    Posted: November 15th, 2010

A trio of posters just hit the internet for The Mechanic, True Grit, and Gnomeo & Juliet. Up first is the awesome new poster for The Mechanic, which is directed by Simon West (Con Air) and is a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film of the same name. Jason Statham, Ben Foster, and Donald Sutherland star. The second poster is for True Grit, the Coen Brothers’ upcoming remake of the western that won John Wayne an Oscar. The film stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld and I completely dig the poster. Third on the list is a reimagining (can you tell there is a trend in Hollywood?) called Gnomeo & Juliet, which is an animated film that features the familiar story or Romeo & Juliet—but with garden gnomes. Directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2), the Touchstone Pictures film will utilize old and new songs by Elton John along with voice work by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as the two main characters. So hit the jump for all three posters.

the_mechanic_movie_poster_01
The poster for The Mechanic features various weaponry made into the shape of a pistol. I love the color choice and the assortment of weapons, and there is even an embedded QR code. You can look forward to a trailer for the film to hit Wednesday.  The film is set to open on January 28, 2011.
Here’s the synopsis:
Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It’s a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead.
His mission grows complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop’s trade. Bishop has always acted alone but he can’t turn his back on Harry’s son. A methodical hit man takes an impulsive student deep into his world and a deadly partnership is born. But while in pursuit of their ultimate mark, deceptions threaten to surface and those hired to fix problems become problems themselves.

Meanwhile, The Hitlist provides the second poster for True Grit, and features the tagline “Punishment Comes One Way Or Another.” Joel and Ethan Coen seem to be bringing the goods for this remake, and I can’t wait to see more of Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn. Look for the film on December 22nd.
Here’s the synopsis:
Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross’s (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him — over his objections — to hunt down Chaney. Her father’s blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

Finally, we have the Gnomeo & Juliet one-sheet straight from the source: Disney. You can tell that this tale is turned on its head, though it likely will feature the same basic blue print that has made William Shakespeare’s tale so endearing. However, I doubt the end will be quite as tragic. Look for this crazy film in 3D on February 11, 2011.
Here’s the synopsis:
The greatest love story ever told, starring…garden gnomes? In “Gnomeo & Juliet,” Shakespeare’s revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of “Shrek 2″) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?
