Roland Emmerich’s SINGULARITY Winds up at Sony; Will Be Released May 2013 [Updated]

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Sony Pictures previously distributed Roland Emmerich’s 2012, they’re planning to release his new film Anonymous this fall, and now it’s looking like they’ll be working with him again.  Details on the film’s story are scant (as if there will be much story to begin with) but THR reports that Emmerich will be writing the script.  THR also says that the movie is untitled, but Deadline reports that the picture is called Singularity, a title that implies a sci-fi bent (a “singularity” is a term used in astrophysics to describe “A point in space-time at which gravitational forces cause matter to have infinite density and infinitesimal volume, and space and time to become infinitely distorted.”)
However, Singularity may not be Emmerich’s next film.  He’s also attached to direct an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation trilogy as well as a movie based off the classic arcade game AsteroidsAnonymous, which is a historical thriller that presumes Shakespeare didn’t write his plays, is set to open on October 28th. [Update: Deadline confirms that Sony has picked up Singularity.  The studio plans to release it on May 17, 2013, which implies that this will be Emmerich's next flick.  The only other film currently set for that date is Ron Howard's adaptation of Steven King's The Dark Towerhttp://collider.com/roland-emmerichs-singularity-sony-pictures/99526/

Roger Avary to Pen Adaptation of William Faulkner’s Crime Novel SANCTUARY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Cops producer John Langley has tapped Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary to pen an adaptation of William Faulkner’s 1931 crime novel SanctuaryDeadline reports that Ali exec producer Lee Caplin will co-produce with Langley.  The book was adapted back in 1933 as The Story of Temple Drake, but the plot had to be readjusted to adhere to the Production Code, and there’s a lot to readjust.  The story involves rape, murder, abduction, and other brutal acts set against the backdrop of the American South during Prohibition.
Avary’s last produced screenplay was 2007′s Beowulf and his career was slightly way-laid when he pled guilty to a vehicular manslaughter charge in 2009 and while he was at first given a work furlough and five years probation, he was dumb enough to complain about it on Twitter and as a result was sent to jail to serve out the remainder of his sentence.  He was released last July.  Personal problems aside, Avary is an interesting screenwriter who has no trouble tapping into the ugliness of characters and their situations and he sounds like a perfect fit for this adaptation.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel. http://collider.com/roger-avary-william-faulkner-sanctuary/99506/

Warner Bros. Wants to Send David O. Russell and Brad Pitt on THE MISSION

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: June 29th, 2011

Killing Osama Bin Laden hasn’t just been great for America’s morale.  It’s also been great for Hollywood.  Columbia Pictures will distribute Kathryn Bigelow’s Kill Bin Laden next year, Relativity recently up picked up the Navy SEALs film Act of Valor and now Warner Bros. is getting in on the military-men-on-a-mission game with the appropriately titled The MissionDeadline reports that Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a film based on the real-life six-year mission between American and Columbian covert operatives to free 15 hostages from the Columbian jungle.  David O. Russell is reportedly circling the director’s chair and Brad Pitt is being courted to star.  The movie won’t focus on the hardships of the hostages but instead on “the numerous governments, diplomats and intelligence services and a vast network of spies, military advisers and soldiers plus high-tech surveillance measures.”
Hit the jump for more on O. Russell and Pitt’s current projects and likelihood of signing on for The Mission. http://collider.com/mission-david-o-russell-brad-pitt/99498/

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay SWEAR TO GOD

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 29th, 2011

Warner Bros. has picked up the buddy comedy Swear to God with Will Ferrell attached to star and Adam McKay set to produce and direct.  The script is from Due Date screenwriters Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland and Deadline reports that Ferrell will play “a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God.”  If the project goes into production, it will be the fifth or sixth film directed by McKay that stars Ferrell.  However, it will be the first one McKay didn’t write (although I’d be surprised if he didn’t have input into the script).  Hit the jump to learn more about the Ferrell and McKay’s other projects. http://collider.com/will-ferrell-adam-mckay-swear-to-god/99493/

Two More Images from THE HOBBIT

Last week, we showed you the first official images from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.  Now two more images from the film have gone online.  The images provide another look at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellan reprising his role as Gandalf the Grey.  Looking at all of these images, I’m curious to see if Jackson will retain the visual style he used for The Lord of the Rings trilogy or if he’ll modify it since the events of The Hobbit take place before LOTR.
Hit the jump to check out the new images.  The two-part film is currently shooting in New Zealand and also stars Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, and Stephen Fry. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14th, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again hitting theaters on December 13th, 2013. http://collider.com/hobbit-movie-images/99479/

Jean-Pierre Jenuet to Adapt THE SELECTED WORKS OF T.S. SPIVET and RED LEAVES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 29th, 2011

French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet hasn’t directed an English-language film since 1997′s Alien: Resurrection, but he may give it another shot by adapting Reif Larson’s debut novel The Selected Works of T.S. SpivetVariety reports that Jeunet plans to make Spivet his next movie and that he is currently writing the screenplay with his Amelie co-writer Guillaume Laurant.  Per Variety, Spivet “tells the story of a 12-year-old cartographer’s cross-country adventure from Montana to the Smithsonian Museum. Project fits into Jeunet’s body of work as it explores the imaginative mind of a child, mixing realism and fantasy.”
Jeunet has also picked up the screen rights to Thomas H. Cook’s novel Red Leaves, although it’s unknown if the adaptation would also be in English.  Red Leaves is a markedly darker tale than Spivet and “centers around the crumbling life of a father of a 15-year old boy accused of kidnapping an 8-year old.”  While Jeunet at times struggles with story and can get lost in quirk, his visual flair is undeniable and hopefully he’ll be able to balance it with a compelling narrative.  Hit the jump for synopses of both novels. http://collider.com/jean-pierre-jenuet-ts-spivet-red-leaves/99471/

New Trailer for MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 19th, 2011 at 9:40 pm

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the family film Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Jim Carrey stars as divorced New York real estate developer: “for years he has been out of contact with his ‘kooky’ father, who leaves him with an unusual inheritance: a penguin.” Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, and Madeline Carroll also star. Mark Waters (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) directs from a script by Jared Stern (The Princess and the Frog) and screenwriting team Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine), based on the 1938 children’s novel.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins opens June 17. Watch the trailer after the break.

Alec Baldwin Joins Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and Maybe Jeremy Renner in Football Comedy THREE MISSISSIPPI; Adam McKay Provides Synopsis
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 19th, 2011 at 9:12 pm

It was reported earlier this week that The Other Guys co-stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will reunite for Turkey Bowl, a comedy about that revolves around the annual Thanksgiving neighborhood football game. Somehow left out of that report was Alec Baldwin, the man who co-inspired the project. Producer Adam McKay explains:

“The idea was originally conceived for Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin. Owen Burke, who’s a producer at Gary Sanchez, and I were talking about how crazily funny Wahlberg and Baldwin were in The Departed — how, even though it’s not a comedy, we could just watch them all day long. Burke dropped this idea, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a movie!’ Then Will heard it and he wanted in.”

McKay revealed more about the project, including a more detailed plot synopsis, why they have to rename the movie (the tentative title is Three Mississippi), and how Jeremy Renner might be involved. Read what he had to say after the jump.

Holly Hunter Joins STILL I RISE; In Talks for ROMEO AND JULIET
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: May 19th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Holly Hunter has signed a deal to star in Still I Rise, a look at the public education crisis in America. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis star as “two frustrated mothers who team up to transform an inner-city public school.” Isaac recently joined the cast as a “sexy, ukulele-playing teacher” who romances and inspires Gyllenhaal’s character. Hunter will play the head of the teacher’s union. Director Daniel Barnz (Beastly) is now polishing a rewrite of the original Brin Hill screenplay. Production on the Walden Media/Fox collaboration begins next week in Pittsburgh.

Likewise, Hunter is likewise in negotiations to join the cast of a new Romeo and Juliet movie. True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld is attached to play Juliet — at 14 years of age, Steinfeld hews closer to the 13-year-old girl Shakespeare described. Italian director Carlo Carlie (Flight of the Innocent) will direct from a screenplay by Julian Fellowes (The Tourist). The $15 million production is expected to begin filming soon in Italy. Deadline doesn’t specify, but my guess is Hunter is in talks to play either Lady Capulet (Juliet’s mother) or Lady Montague (Romeo’s mother).

Still I Rise will be Hunter’s first feature film since 2005, following a brief detour in to television with Saving Grace.

3 New Clips from BEGINNERS Starring Ewan McGregor
by Jason Barr Posted: May 19th, 2011 at 5:20 pm

A trio of new clips from writer/director Mike Mills’ (Thumbsucker) “dramady” Beginners has landed online. Starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, and Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Bastards), the film is a boy (McGregor) meets girl (Laurent) story with the twist coming when boy reflects on the lessons taught to him by his recently deceased father (Plummer) who, at the age of 75, came out of the closet to finish his sunset years in style. Beginners premiered at TIFF last year and I’m looking forward to checking it out when it hits theaters stateside on June 3rd.

Hit the jump to check out the new clips entitled “Awfully Alone,” “Fatherly Advice,” and “Joy of Sex” respectively. In case you need more Beginners in your life, you can click here for the trailer and click here for two older clips entitled “Akbar” and “Ask Me Anything.”

Woody Allen Discusses His Next Film, Return to Acting
by Bill Graham Posted: May 17th, 2011 at 3:27 pm

Woody Allen may never stop making films. Long after he is dead, I am sure we will still be treated to summer releases of his newest film that was shot, edited, and stored in a vault somewhere. Having just arrived from the opening of Midnight in Paris at the Cannes Film Festival, he decided to round up some New York press and talk about his next untitled film project. Yes, he is promoting his next film before his current one has even released theatrically. Even the casting for the film seems nearly done, with Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Penelope Cruz, and Alec Baldwin all set to star alongside the recently announced Roberto Benigni and Allen himself. Hit the jump for more on the untitled film’s subject matter, which Allen has described as, “an out-and-out comedy,” and what role he will play.

Michelle Williams to Play Glinda in Sam Raimi’s OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 17th, 2011 at 3:23 pm

The triumvirate of witches in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful is complete. The film stars James Franco as the future-wizard of Oz, Mila Kunis as Theodora (Wicked Witch of the West), Rachel Weisz as Evanora (Wicked Witch of the East), and now Variety reports that Michelle Williams has been cast as Glinda, the Good Witch. So it looks like Disney won their battle with Raimi who wanted Hilary Swank for the role, but Disney wanted Williams.
In this re-imagining/prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Franco is a snake-oil salesman who is transported to Oz and teams up with Glinda to fight her evil sisters in a power struggle for control of the magical land. While Raimi obviously knows the script better than I do, I think Williams is talented actress who adds value to any film. She tends to gravitate to serious indie fare so this is a nice change of pace for what is sure to be one of Disney’s 2012 tentpoles. Williams will next be seen as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn and opposite Seth Rogen in Sarah Polley’s bittersweet comedy Take This Waltz.

Warner Bros. to Reunite Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in TURKEY BOWL
by Jason Barr Posted: May 17th, 2011 at 3:04 pm

Fans of The Other Guys‘ Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg team-up will be happy to hear that the two have definite plans of joining forces once again. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has acquired a pitch, entitled Turkey Bowl, from 30 Rock writer/producer Robert Carlock and Friends writer/producer Scott Silveri that will reunite the former co-stars. Turkey Bowl will pit Ferrell and Wahlberg as guys from rival towns who engage in an annual football game with the stakes being the ultimate high: you guessed it, bragging rights. Per the report, Warner Bros. is looking to load the rival teams with cameo appearances a la Anchorman’s broadcaster throwdown.

Adam McKay and Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez banner will produce Turkey Bowl alongside Wahlberg’s Closest to the Hole label. Currently, there is no word on when the project is scheduled to go into production and/or who might occupy the director’s chair. Ferrell can currently be seen in the indie/dramady Everything Must Go. Wahlberg can next be seen alongside Kate Beckinsale and Ben Foster in the thriller Contraband before lensing Seth MacFarlane’s comedy Ted.

Will Ferrell on "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers" Sequels

Posted: May 3rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Collider and CinemaBlend had the chance to speak to Will Ferrell about whether there are any plans to develop sequels to his "Anchorman" and "Step Brothers" comedies, which where both directed by Adam McKay.

"We just had a great meeting with John C. Reilly about maybe another 'Step Brothers,'" said the actor. "Because 'Anchorman' is a brick wall right now."

Ferrell went on to say that Paramount Pictures is simply not interested in "Anchorman 2." But believes there is a way to change the studio's mind. "You really have to assert some sort of email hate campaign to Paramount Pictures," he explained. "They've told us, 'We've run the numbers and it's not a good fit.' So that one is a no-go, sadly."

"Rain Man" Director to Helm John Travolta's "Gotti" Biopic

Posted: May 3rd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Ella Bleu Travolta will also appear in the film, which focuses on the relationship between Gotti Sr and his son, who chooses to turn his back on the mob code he grew up around.

**Kirsten Dunst, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan and Casey Wilson to Star in Will Ferrell-Produced Comedy **Anna Faris Circling THE DICTATOR; Greta Gerwig and Orlando Bloom Join LOLA VERSUS **Paul W.S. Anderson to Direct Volcanic Disaster Flick POMPEII

Kirsten Dunst, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan and Casey Wilson to Star in Will Ferrell-Produced Comedy

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: May 2nd, 2011

A quartet of actors are set to star in a new indie comedy being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Kirsten Dunst, Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan and Casey Wilson are all attached to star in a comedy written and directed by Leslye Headland (TV’s Terriers) that has the working title of Bachelorette (which is most likely going to change). The story centers on three best friends who are asked to be the bridesmaids of a woman they called “Pigface” in high school. THR reports that Dunst and Caplan will play two of the best friends, with Wilson taking on the role of the bride-to-be. The character breakdown describes Dunst’s character as “your best friend and your worst enemy,” whereas Caplan’s role is characterized as “having a Playboy bunny body with a Larry David brain.”
This marks a reunion of sorts for Caplan and Scott, who both starred in Starz’s fantastic comedy Party Down. Scott is set to play Caplan’s high school crush, who “shows up to the wedding with a beautiful and much younger date.” The project was previously an off-Broadway play that caught the attention of McKay, who decided to set it up as a film at his and Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez production company. The budget is set at around $3 million with filming hoping to get underway this summer in New York. Scott is currently killing each week on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and Casey Wilson is starring on ABC’s Happy Endings.

Anna Faris Circling THE DICTATOR; Greta Gerwig and Orlando Bloom Join LOLA VERSUS

by Jason Barr   Posted: May 2nd, 2011

We have a few casting tidbits to bring you tonight. First up, Deadline reports that Anna Faris has been offered the female lead in director Larry Charles’ (Borat) comedy The Dictator. Already starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley, the film tells the story of a dictator who risks his life to keep democracy out of his finely oppressed country. Cohen will take on dual roles in the film as both the dictator and a goat herder whereas Faris’ character would be the owner of an organic food store who begins to turn around Cohen’s dictatorial outlook. You may remember that Faris faced competition in the form of Kristen Wiig and Gillian Jacobs for the role. The Dictator is scheduled to be released by Paramount on May 11th, 2012.
Next up, Variety confirms that both Greta Gerwig (Arthur) and Orlando Bloom are settling in for roles in the romantic comedy Lola Versus. Per the report, Gerwig has already accepted the starring role of a girl who is dumped only weeks before her wedding by her college sweetheart. Bloom is still in final negotiations to join the film for an unspecified role (perhaps Gerwig’s aforementioned college sweetheart?). Daryl Wein (Breaking Upwards) is set to direct the script he co-wrote with Zoe Lister-Jones. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in New York next month.

The trailer for Will Ferrell’s Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre (translated House of My Father) has quietly surfaced online. Starring Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Efren Ramirez, and Genesis Rodriguez, the film is directed by Matt Piedmont from a script by Andrew Steele. We let you know back in January that Casa de mi Padre tells the story of Armando (Ferrell) and the misadventures he undergoes while simultaneously attempting to save his father’s farm/fend off feared Mexican drug lord Onza (Bernal). The English-subtitled trailer delivers hints of that premise while also promising plenty of “slaps!” and “special effects!”

Lionsgate to Distribute Barry Levinson’s THE BAY; Relativity Purchases HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET Starring Jennifer Lawrence

by Jason Barr   Posted: April 14th, 2011

We have a few acquisition bits to bring you today. First up, Lionsgate has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson’s (Rain Man) found-footage “eco-horror” film, The Bay. Produced by Paranormal Activity alums Oren Peli, Steven Schneider, and Jason Blum, The Bay stars Andy Stahl and Kether Donohue and focuses on “an unprecedented biological disaster unleashed from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay – an isopod parasite, carrying a horrific untreatable disease, that jumps from fish to human hosts.” On its own, the disease sounds pretty rough. When you throw in the “untreatable,” it gets upgraded to “horrific.” The film is shaping up for a release later this year.
Next up, Relativity Media has acquired domestic distribution rights to the thriller House at the End of the Street. Starring former Oscar-nominees Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas) as well as Max Theriot (My Soul to Take), the film revolves around a mother and daughter (Shue and Lawrence) who move into a new neighborhood only to find that the house next door is the home of a psychotic young girl who murdered her parents. Mark Tonderai directs a script by David Loucka. Also without an official release date, moviegoers may be waiting until 2012 to check out House at the End of the Street.

Mark Wahlberg to Produce and Possibly Star in WHEN CORRUPTION WAS KING and BILLY JACK

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 14th, 2011

Adding to the long list of projects that Mark Walhberg is currently attached to, the Fighter star is set to produce and possibly star in two more films. Variety reports that the actor and his producing partner, Stephen Levinson, have come aboard the adaptation of Robert Cooley’s When Corruption Was King as producers with the possibility that Wahlberg might star in the flick as well. Frank Baldwin is writing the script, with no director attached at the moment. Cooley’s memoir tells the story of how he, as a mob attorney, played a major role in bringing down Chicago’s mob organization during Operation Gambat.
Additionally, The Tracking Board (via /Film) reports that Wahlberg is also set to produce and possibly star in a remake of the 1971 action film Billy Jack. Starring Tom Laughlin, Billy Jack centers on a gunslinger who defends a hippie-themed school from townspeople opposed to the counterculture students. Presumably, this plot would be updated. Though I personally think a shoot-em-up action flick with a gun-slinging Mark Wahlberg protecting liberal arts students from angry townsfolk would make for a fantastic moviegoing experience. Hit the jump for a rundown of the other projects that Walhberg is connected to at the moment, as well as a synopsis of When Corruption Was King. ............ http://collider.com/mark-wahlberg-when-corruption-was-king-billy-jack/86088/

First Poster for MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 14th, 2011

The first poster for Mr. Popper’s Penguins has been released. Based on the children’s book of the same name, the film centers on a New York real estate developer who inherits some penguins, naturally. Jim Carrey stars in the film which was directed by Mark Waters. I quite enjoyed Waters’ Mean Girls, and thought the premise had some potential with Carrey attached, but the first trailer didn’t really impress anything upon me other than “look how kooky it is to have penguins in a high-rise apartment!” Though I did find it cool that the film used actual penguins most of the time rather than relying on CGI.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. Carrey stars alongside Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, and Madeline Carroll. Mr. Popper’s Penguins hits theaters June 17th.

The trailer and poster have gone online for the upcoming indie comedy Everything Must Go starring Will Ferrell.  Ferrell plays a man who has been laid off from his job and decides to sell all of his material possessions in an epic yard sale.  The movie picked up positive notices last year when it played at the Toronto Film Festival and this trailer has me interested because it shows Will Ferrell but he’s not screaming or stating the obvious or stating the obvious while screaming.  He seems to be giving a genuine, low-key performance and it’s a welcome change-of-pace from his regular, broad comic fare.

Alongside the news that child actor Gulliver McGrath (The Loved Ones) will play the role of David Collins in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows also comes word that Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) is the leading candidate to play his father, Roger Collins. Deadline is reporting the tentative rumor that Sheen is Burton’s top choice for the role although nothing is confirmed as of yet. For now, McGrath joins a cast that already includes Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jackie Early Haley, and Bella Heathcoate. As you may already expect, Helena Bonham Carter is believed to be officially joining the cast at some point as well.
Previously, Sheen provided voice work as White Rabbit in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. He is also experienced in working with supernatural-based material given his respective turns in the Underworld and Twilight franchises. As for McGrath, the young actor was previously a finalist to play the namesake in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret. His role of David Collins was held by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the 90s reboot of the television series. .........more; http://collider.com/michael-sheen-dark-shadows-gulliver-mcgrath/83406/

Sony Pictures Classics to Release Gus Van Sant’s RESTLESS Starring Mia Wasikowska

by Jason Barr   Posted: March 31st, 2011

In November of last year, we reported that Sony had moved Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant’s (Milk) drama Restless from its January 28th release date to an unspecified date later in 2011. While the film, starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper, is still without a solid release date (sometime around the fall 2011 festival season might make sense), a press release from Sony earlier today confirms that it has been shifted to the studio’s Sony Pictures Classics division who will handle its domestic distribution.
As a reminder, Restless tells the story of a terminally ill girl (Wasikowska) who befriends a gentleman who attends funerals for the heck of it (Hopper) and their ensuing friendship. You can check out a trailer for the film by clicking here. Hit the jump to check out the full press release.

**Tom Hardy is Signed for "Inception" Sequel **Cameron Diaz's Restricted "Bad Teacher" Trailer **Rumor: John C. Reilly to Star in TIM AND ERIC’S BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE; Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, Bob Odenkirk, Harrison Ford, Will Forte in Talks

Rumor: John C. Reilly to Star in TIM AND ERIC’S BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE; Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, Bob Odenkirk, Harrison Ford, Will Forte in Talks

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 22nd, 2011

It is not hyperbole to state that Adult Swimmers Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) present the most bizarre comic sensibility that I’ve ever encountered.  To be honest, I get flustered under prolonged exposure to Tim and Eric bits.  But I always admire two things about the comedy duo: 1) the raw novelty of the Tim and Eric brand and 2) their friends.  A prime example of the latter: John C. Reilly.
/Film picked up a rumor from The Tracking Board that Reilly is poised to star in Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, which is a great fit.  Reilly has redefined the latest iteration of his career playing the odd duck, but his affable personality streamlines the weird for those as unhip as myself.  Even better, it appears Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, Bob Odenkirk, Harrison Ford, and Will Forte are in talks for roles of a presumably smaller nature.  Exclude Ford, and the rest are identifiable friends of the show (Ferrell will reportedly produce with Adam McKay), so the rumors are logical.  The idea of Tim and Eric at feature length is daunting, but it’s hard to go too wrong if these folk sign on.  (Just imagine what Heidecker and Wareheim might do with the guttural vocals of acting legend Harrison Ford!)
After the jump, watch an Awesome Show featuring Reilly as solitary advisor Dr. Steve Brule.

Tom Hardy is Signed for "Inception" Sequel

Posted: February 22nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

In the same interview where Tom Hardy revealed that he'll be gaining weight to play Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises," he also mentioned that he's signed on to return for an "Inception" sequel.

The actor is unsure if a second installment will ever happened, but if it does, he'll be back. Christopher Nolan has never mentioned anything about a follow-up, but back in October it was revealed that Warner Bros wanted a sequel.

The first film earned $823 million on a $160 million budget. And while it's unclear which direction a second film could go into, I'm sure Warners will come up with something to keep the franchise making money for them.

It feels like only a few days have passed since we last brought you a new image of Chris Evans sporting red, white, and blue digs.  With hopes that more really is better, we have yet another new image of Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger to bring you this afternoon.  While Matt expressed concerns that Cap’s costume was somewhat “dorky,” I have to say that I’m a fan of the look as it strikes me as being true to the WWII time period that Steve Rogers initially inhabits.
Hit the jump to check out the full image.  In addition to Evans, Captain America: The First Avenger also stars Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, and Toby Jones.  Directed by Joe Johnston, the film hits 3D theaters on July 22nd.

Early Synopsis for Untitled Spanish Comedy Starring Will Ferrell, Diego Luna, and Gael Garcia Bernal

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 16th, 2011

Last September, we reported that Will Ferrell would be starring the comedy Casa de mi padre (House of My Father) with Y Tu Mama Tambien costars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna.  What’s odd about the movie is that it Ferrell will star even though the movie is in Spanish with English subtitles.  Early reports suggested that the film would be in the over-dramatic style of Spanish telenovelas.  We have now been provided with a synopsis for the film.
It should be noted that the film is currently in the test screening process, which means the synopsis we have could change.  However, it sounds like this project, which is currently going by “Untitled Spanish Comedy”, could be very interesting.  Hit the jump for the synopsis.
Here’s the synopsis we received:
This movie is currently called UNTITLED SPANISH COMEDY and stars Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries), DIEGO LUNA (The Terminal) and GENESIS RODRIGUEZ (TV’s Entourage & “Dona Barbara”) Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiance, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal)…
