James Caan May Join I HATE YOU DAD Starring Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 31st, 2011
The Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy I Hate You Dad may have just found an Academy Award nominee to join the cast. The Wrap reports that Colombia Pictures is looking at grabbing James Caan for a role in the film. The plot revolves around a father who moves in with his son and his son’s fiancé just before they’re about to get married.

Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine) are set to direct the comedy from a script by David Case, which subsequently got a rewrite by Ken Marino and David Wain (Role Models).

Sam Claflin and Alicia Vikander in Talks for THE SEVENTH SON
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 31st, 2011
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures reportedly offered Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence the parts of Tom and Alice in The Seventh Son — the upcoming adaptation of the first book in the Last Apprentice series — but they passed on the roles. Since then, the studios cast out a wide net: Sam Claflin, Caleb Landry-Jones, James Frecheville for Tom; Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots, Felicity Jones, Gabrielle Wild, and Dianna Agron for Alice. Variety reports that Claflin and Vikander have emerged from the young Hollywood scuffle to enter negotiations to star. Claflin is poised for a breakout as the effective Orlando Bloom replacement in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Vikander is a Swedish actress seeking her first credit in Hollywood — WB and Legendary considered her earlier in the year for a role in the sequel to Clash of the Titans.

From a creative standpoint, Vikander may have lucked out. Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, and their ten combined Oscar nominations are in talks to play the Spook and Mother Malkin, respectively, for director Sergey Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan). Joseph Delaney’s young adult novels center on “a 13-year-old who’s the seventh son of a seventh son and learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook.” Read the synopsis for Revenge of the Witch, the first in the series, after the break.

James Marsden is Charles Manson in "The Dead Circus"
Posted: March 31st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Palermo Pictures is aiming to begin filming "The Dead Circus" this summer and is currently speaking to James Marsden (X-Men), Michael C Hall ("Dexter") and Melissa Leo (The Fighter) to star.

The film is a fictitious story about the actual mysterious death of "I Fought the Law" singer Bobby Fuller. His song became a hit in 1966, but a week after, the 23-year-old singer was found dead. The death was ruled a suicide even though his body was battered, with gasoline poured down his throat.

In the drama, a grieving screenwriter (still to be cast) plunges into a crusade to solve the mystery of Fuller's death. Leo will play a Manson Family matriarch who comes out of hiding five years after the murder to reveal to the writer that the answer to his questions might be found in 16 mm snuff films buried in Death Valley. Marsden will play Charles Manson. Hall will play a corrupt, wheelchair-bound manager of the dead musician.

The first unofficial set photos from Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters have leaked online.  Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the title characters who are still harboring resentment because they were almost killed by witches when they were kids.  There’s nothing super-remarkable about the photos although you’ll see that just because you’re hunting witches, doesn’t mean you can’t look stylish.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  Directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow), the film also stars Famke Janssen, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and Peter Stormare.  Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters opens in 3D on March 2, 2012.

Trailer and Poster for EVERYTHING MUST GO Starring Will Ferrell

The trailer and poster have gone online for the upcoming indie comedy Everything Must Go starring Will Ferrell.  Ferrell plays a man who has been laid off from his job and decides to sell all of his material possessions in an epic yard sale.  The movie picked up positive notices last year when it played at the Toronto Film Festival and this trailer has me interested because it shows Will Ferrell but he’s not screaming or stating the obvious or stating the obvious while screaming.  He seems to be giving a genuine, low-key performance and it’s a welcome change-of-pace from his regular, broad comic fare.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars Rebecca Hall, Michael Peña, Laura Dern, Stephen Root, and Christopher Jordan Wallace.  Everything Must Go opens May 13th.

Will Michael Sheen Parent Gulliver McGrath in DARK SHADOWS?

by Jason Barr    Posted: March 31st, 2011

Alongside the news that child actor Gulliver McGrath (The Loved Ones) will play the role of David Collins in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows also comes word that Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon) is the leading candidate to play his father, Roger Collins. Deadline is reporting the tentative rumor that Sheen is Burton’s top choice for the role although nothing is confirmed as of yet. For now, McGrath joins a cast that already includes Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jackie Early Haley, and Bella Heathcoate. As you may already expect, Helena Bonham Carter is believed to be officially joining the cast at some point as well.
Previously, Sheen provided voice work as White Rabbit in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. He is also experienced in working with supernatural-based material given his respective turns in the Underworld and Twilight franchises. As for McGrath, the young actor was previously a finalist to play the namesake in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret. His role of David Collins was held by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the 90s reboot of the television series. .........more; http://collider.com/michael-sheen-dark-shadows-gulliver-mcgrath/83406/

Sony Pictures Classics to Release Gus Van Sant’s RESTLESS Starring Mia Wasikowska

by Jason Barr   Posted: March 31st, 2011

restless-slice
In November of last year, we reported that Sony had moved Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant’s (Milk) drama Restless from its January 28th release date to an unspecified date later in 2011. While the film, starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper, is still without a solid release date (sometime around the fall 2011 festival season might make sense), a press release from Sony earlier today confirms that it has been shifted to the studio’s Sony Pictures Classics division who will handle its domestic distribution.
As a reminder, Restless tells the story of a terminally ill girl (Wasikowska) who befriends a gentleman who attends funerals for the heck of it (Hopper) and their ensuing friendship. You can check out a trailer for the film by clicking here. Hit the jump to check out the full press release.
