I’m a pretty emotionally level person. There are very few things I’m invested in enough to fundamentally alter my mood, but Agatha Christie novels are one of the few sentiments I cling to. I grew up reading every one of her novels I could get my hands on. I watched all the films, the television shows and even read a biography chronicling that bizarre incident where she briefly disappeared. It’s a subject close to my heart; so, imagine my bewilderment when I read Eric’s article earlier today telling me Disney was making a Miss Marple film in which they were reinterpreting the character as a thirty-something. That’s right, shaving some thirty-five years off my favorite old woman to cater her to a new generation who apparently hates the elderly. Initially, I hoped maybe this was just some ludicrous pipe dream that would never make it to production, but now we have actual casting news. This bullshit is not going away, people.


According to Deadline, Jennifer Garner has officially boarded as this madeover Miss Marple. No offense to her, but what in God’s name is going on this afternoon? Why even make this a Miss Marple story? If you want to introduce a young and sassy female detective, why not make her Miss Marple’s great niece or some wily girl she gave piano lessons to back in the day?


Here’s a few more ideas straight out of this horrid bag of tricks. Let’s do a Jaws where the shark is reinterpreted as a manatee who does tricks. Then when we’re done, let’s do a James Bond set in a local high school in which 0-0-7 is his locker combination! Oh God, I’m cooking with gas now. How about a Home Alone reboot where Kevin can’t find his wife at the Sandals’ pool?


The whole point of Miss Marple is that she’s a nice, disengaging old woman who can easily pry information out of suspects. Giving her sex appeal just meddles with the equation. Let’s hope to God Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost has put more thought into this then it seems. I've already shown you the major highlight from the exhibit floor at Cinema Con, the first look at Caesar in Rise of the Apes. Not all of it is new, but there's always something interesting to look at.

First Look At Caesar In Rise Of The Apes
I've arrived in Las Vegas for this year's Cinema Con, the annual gathering of movie industry executives and theater owners where the major studios take the chance to show off their goods for the coming year, especially summer movies. There will be a lot to see from the presentations from Paramount, DreamWorks, Disney and Warner Bros., but kicking things off in the goody bag, of all places, was Fox, which handed out a calendar featuring brand-new images from many of its upcoming films.


We'll have all of those images later today, but by far the most interesting is the first look at Caesar from Rise of the Apes, the Planet of the Apes prequel coming to theaters in August. The first official image focused on human star James Franco, but this is the first look at the main ape, played in a motion-capture performance by Andy Serkis. Check out the photo below-- it's not great, we know, but we'll have to hope for an official version released online soon. You can click on it for a much larger version too.

Teresa Palmer Joins Warm Bodies
I Am Number Four's Teresa Palmer is in negotiations to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in Summit's zombie love story Warm Bodies.


Jonathan Levine is directing the project, which follows an existentially tormented zombie named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world.


Teresa Palmer's character is described as the daughter of one of the humans' military leaders who is tiring of a life of constantly fighting off zombie attacks.


The project is based on a book by Isaac Marion that will be published by Atria Books, a division of Simon and Schuster.


Production on the film is slated to commence this summer.


Warm Bodies comes to theaters in 2012.

Tom Hardy: 'Inception' Wins Four VES Awards!

Tom Hardy suits up for the 9th Annual VES Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday (February 1) in Bevelry Hills, Calif.

The 33-year-old actor’s hit film, Inception, was the night’s big winner, scoring four awards from the Visual Effects Society.

Inception director Christopher Nolan was also honored with the inaugural VES Visionary Award.

On Monday, Tom, who’s set to play the villain Bane in Christopher’s The Dark Knight Rises, was spotted wearing a Batman t-shirt while arriving at LAX.

Justin Timberlake: Shirtless Swimming for 'Now'!

Justin Timberlake goes shirtless as he films scenes for his new movie, Now, on Monday (January 31) in Malibu, Calif.

The actor celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday - happy birthday, JT!!

Justin swam in the ocean for a night shoot but had a lifeguard nearby just in case the water got too rough.

Now also stars Amanda Seyfried and is scheduled to be released in late October.

Diane Kruger rocks a Chanel jacket as she graces the cover of Glamour magazine’s March 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (February 8)!

Here’s what the 34-year-old German actress had to share:

On her love of fashion: “I truly, genuinely like clothes. Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life - my mood, how I felt - through these clothes.”

On her biggest fashion splurge: “The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years. I’m not kidding. All my life I wanted to own an Hermès Constance bag, and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it.”

The 46-year-old actress kept warm in black boots, a hoodie, and a long coat.

On Friday, Sandra, who’s currently making herself at home in NYC while she films Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, stepped out in the snow.

In a few weeks, Sandra will be heading to L.A. for the Academy Awards, where she’ll hit the stage as a presenter, one year after taking home the Best Actress Oscar!

Jude Law & Robert Downey, Jr.: Sherlock Holmes Sequel!

Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr. share a laugh on the set of the sequel to their 2009 hit film Sherlock Holmes.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with the actors on set and asked why they wanted to make a sequel to the film.

“We said, if I remember rightly, on the last one that we had so much fun, and if everyone else would too, that if they wanted us to do more, we would — and it seems they wanted us to do more, so that’s why we’re back,” Jude shared. “It’s gone to the next level.”

“The idea this time was to remember what put us in the position to be able to join forces again,” Robert added. “The tone of Sherlock and Watson this time around [is darker] — they’re actually up against their greatest nemesis, therefore we’re afforded a little more levity [in some of the scenes].”

The Sherlock Holmes sequel will hit movie theaters on December 16!

George Clooney: 'Gravity' with Sandra Bullock!

George Clooney is set to star opposite Sandra Bullock in Gravity, a new movie from Alfonso Cuaron.

The 49-year-old actor replaces Robert Downey, Jr. in the role - Robert had to drop out of the project because of scheduling problems.

George will play the team leader on a space station who is left stranded with Sandra’s character when the rest of the station’s crew is killed by an asteroid.

Sandra will play a mother who will do anything to get back to safety on Earth and come home to her son.

On getting into shape for Tron: “I worked with a personal trainer, so I did about an hour of cardio five or six days a week, weight training three times a week, mixed martial arts/fighting three times a week, and that’s a lot more than my normal [routine]!”

On her character, Quorra: “The great thing about playing a strong female character is that I feel like I’ve created someone for little girls to look up to.”

On balancing life with maintaining her figure: “Striving for physical perfection takes a lot of energy. For me it’s important to come home from work, cook a meal with my husband, and spend the afternoon reading a book, instead of always running around.”

Gwyneth Paltrow: 'Country Strong' Premiere!

Gwyneth Paltrow graces the red carpet at the premiere of her new film Country Strong on Tuesday (December 14) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 38-year-old actress, who is confirmed for a return appearance on Glee, told JustJared.com on what to expect for her character Holly Holiday.

“[Creator/director] Ryan Murphy chooses all the songs,” she said. “I’m open to whatever they give me.”

Gwyneth filmed Country Strong in Nashville and tells us that she has added a piece of the city to her everyday home cooking.

“I think its biscuits and fried chicken that I brought home,” she said.

FYI: Gwyneth is wearing an Emilio Pucci dress and a Sutra ring.

Matt Damon: 'True Grit' Premiere with Luciana!

Matt Damon walks the red carpet at the premiere of his new film True Grit at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York on Tuesday (December 14).

The 40-year-old actor was joined by his wife Luciana, as well as co-stars Jeff Bridges and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld.

True Grit is about a tough U.S. Marshal (Bridges) who helps a stubborn young woman (Steinfeld) track down her father’s murderer. Matt plays a man who joins the duo to hunt down the murderer for his own reasons.

The film opens in theaters everywhere on December 22nd!

Justin Timberlake Is Ready To Point-And-Shoot Amanda Seyfried

Justin Timberlake points a gun at Amanda Seyfried in a scene for the upcoming movie Now on Monday (December 13) in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old actor was at the premiere of his new film, Yogi Bear and said that if Saturday Night Live were to offer him a one-to-two-year contract he would “absolutely” take it.

Dan Aykroyd, his Yogi Bear co-star and an SNL alum, said he already considers the singer family on the comedy show. “I consider him to be an extended family member of extended alumnus of the show for sure,” he told Extra.
