Jennifer Garner To Play Miss Marple

I’m a pretty emotionally level person. There are very few things I’m invested in enough to fundamentally alter my mood, but Agatha Christie novels are one of the few sentiments I cling to. I grew up reading every one of her novels I could get my hands on. I watched all the films, the television shows and even read a biography chronicling that bizarre incident where she briefly disappeared. It’s a subject close to my heart; so, imagine my bewilderment when I read Eric’s article earlier today telling me Disney was making a Miss Marple film in which they were reinterpreting the character as a thirty-something. That’s right, shaving some thirty-five years off my favorite old woman to cater her to a new generation who apparently hates the elderly. Initially, I hoped maybe this was just some ludicrous pipe dream that would never make it to production, but now we have actual casting news. This bullshit is not going away, people.
According to Deadline, Jennifer Garner has officially boarded as this madeover Miss Marple. No offense to her, but what in God’s name is going on this afternoon? Why even make this a Miss Marple story? If you want to introduce a young and sassy female detective, why not make her Miss Marple’s great niece or some wily girl she gave piano lessons to back in the day?
Here’s a few more ideas straight out of this horrid bag of tricks. Let’s do a Jaws where the shark is reinterpreted as a manatee who does tricks. Then when we’re done, let’s do a James Bond set in a local high school in which 0-0-7 is his locker combination! Oh God, I’m cooking with gas now. How about a Home Alone reboot where Kevin can’t find his wife at the Sandals’ pool?
The whole point of Miss Marple is that she’s a nice, disengaging old woman who can easily pry information out of suspects. Giving her sex appeal just meddles with the equation. Let’s hope to God Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost has put more thought into this then it seems. Cinema Con In Photos: New Images, Posters, Title Treatments And More

I've already shown you the major highlight from the exhibit floor at Cinema Con, the first look at Caesar in Rise of the Apes. But there's plenty more to see, as the floor is jammed with posters, standees and other advertising for a ton of upcoming movies. Not all of it is new, but there's always something interesting to look at.
In the gallery below you can check out brand new images from upcoming Fox films like The Sitter, We Bought a Zoo, Now, A Big Year and Monte Carlo, plus new title treatments for The Change-Up and Larry Crowne and other posters I thought were worth seeing. First Look At Caesar In Rise Of The Apes
I've arrived in Las Vegas for this year's Cinema Con, the annual gathering of movie industry executives and theater owners where the major studios take the chance to show off their goods for the coming year, especially summer movies. There will be a lot to see from the presentations from Paramount, DreamWorks, Disney and Warner Bros., but kicking things off in the goody bag, of all places, was Fox, which handed out a calendar featuring brand-new images from many of its upcoming films.
We'll have all of those images later today, but by far the most interesting is the first look at Caesar from Rise of the Apes, the Planet of the Apes prequel coming to theaters in August. The first official image focused on human star James Franco, but this is the first look at the main ape, played in a motion-capture performance by Andy Serkis. Check out the photo below-- it's not great, we know, but we'll have to hope for an official version released online soon. You can click on it for a much larger version too.

Teresa Palmer Joins Warm Bodies
I Am Number Four's Teresa Palmer is in negotiations to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in Summit's zombie love story Warm Bodies.
Jonathan Levine is directing the project, which follows an existentially tormented zombie named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world.
Teresa Palmer's character is described as the daughter of one of the humans' military leaders who is tiring of a life of constantly fighting off zombie attacks.
The project is based on a book by Isaac Marion that will be published by Atria Books, a division of Simon and Schuster.
Production on the film is slated to commence this summer.
Warm Bodies comes to theaters in 2012.

Russell Crowe in Talks for "The Boys" Violent Superhero Film

MTV caught up with director Adam McKay (The Other Guys, Step Brothers, Anchorman), who revealed that he's two weeks away from completing a draft of "The Boys" script and has already met with several actors about the project.
"I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher," said McKay. "We met and had kind of an interesting meeting. Everyone knows Simon Pegg can take Hughie if he wants."
"The Boys" is a graphic novel that follows a group of CIA agents assigned to police the world's super-powered heroes and villains. Led by the tough-as-nails Billy Butcher, the super-powered team recruits meek civilian Hughie "Wee Hughie" Campbell who realizes that the team is willing to put super-powered individuals in their place by any means necessary — including assault, blackmail, kidnapping, and frequently, murder.
"You really have to wait until the draft is done to get serious about it," said McKay. "Plus it's like a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie, so we have to see who bites on it."

James Cameron to Take "Avatar 2" Cast to Meet Brazilian Tribes

A few days ago, James Cameron took Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Xingu River in Brazil, where he spoke against the construction of the hydroelectic dam, claiming that it would destroy the homes of some indigenous people.
Cameron said that if he visited the indigenous tribes before filming "Avatar," it would have been a better movie. This is a mistake he is planning to correct for "Avatar 2," by taking the entire cast to Brazil's Amazonian rain forest for them to be inspired by the place.
"'Avatar' is a film about the rain forest and its indigenous people. Before I start to shoot the two films I want to bring my actors here, so I can better tell this story," said the director. "Actors could learn about the natives and what real life in the jungle is like."

Judi Dench revealed to the Sunday Express that the 23rd "James Bond" installment will begin shooting in November. "I am going to do the next Bond in November," she said. "I don't know the location yet."
The new film will see Dench reprise her role of M, while Daniel Craig will return to play the title character. Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem, meanwhile, are in talks to appear as villains.
Sam Mendes has already been confirmed to direct the untitled "James Bond 23" film, which is set to hit theaters on November 9th, 2012.

"I, Frankenstein" Finds Director, Will Shoot This Fall

Stuart Beattie has been hired to write and direct "I, Frankenstein" movie, based on Darkstorm Studios graphic novel created by Kevin Grevioux. The plan is to shoot this fall. Patrick Tatopoulos (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) was previously on board to direct.
"I, Frankenstein" brings together classic monster characters, including Frankenstein's Monster, the Invisible Man, Dracula and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, in a contemporary film noir setting. The Monster, for example, has evolved, learned how to control his anger and now acts as a private investigator. Dracula, meanwhile, is a kingpin of crime, and the Invisible Man is a secret operative.
Beattie most recently wrote and directed "Tomorrow, When the War Began," which broke box office records in Beattie's native Australia last fall. The film was his directorial debut. Beattie has also written "GI Joe," "Australia" and "30 Days of Night."

After months of negotiations, Disney has closed a deal to acquire movie rights to Agatha Christie's famous elderly detective Miss Marple. Mark Frost (Fantastic Four, "Twin Peaks") has been hired to write the screenplay.
Marple was one of Christie's most famous creations, an elderly woman constantly knitting or weeding, looking sweet and frail though the exterior masks a sharp mind with a deep understanding of the dark side of human nature.
The character first appeared on screen in 1961 in "Murder She Said," portrayed by Margaret Rutherford, who was 70 when she played the character in the first of a series of movies. Angela Landsbury played the character in 1980's "The Mirror Crack'd."
Jennifer Garner will star in the adaptation, which will lower the age of Marple.

Ryan Reynolds Still Attached to "Deadpool"

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently spoke with Empire magazine about "Deadpool," revealing that the film will be a total reboot, but will still keep Ryan Reynolds on board as the title character.
"We're looking for a director," she said. "Ryan, he's very involved. He's working with the writers on the screenplay. It's true to the comic. You'll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds. You'll see Deadpool in his costume and you'll see the cancer-scarred face."
If Reynolds is returning, how will the film treat the events in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"? "We're either going to pretend that [the movie] didn't happen or mock it, which he could. It's definitely comedy, but it's an R script, it's really irreverent and violent. Right away, we're out of the X-Men world."

Empire magazine caught up with producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who revealed that there are still plans for a fourth "X-Men" film that will pick up after the events in "X-Men: The Last Stand."
According to Donner, there is already a story in place. "We took the treatment to Fox and they love it," she said, adding: "And 'X4' leads into 'X5.'"
Donner has previously mentioned that she would love to have Bryan Singer return to the franchise. He was originally in talks to direct "X-Men: First Class," but ended up only producing. She may now be speaking with Singer for "X-Men 4." Stay tuned.
