New Trailer for FINAL DESTINATION 5

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

The new trailer for Final Destination 5 has gone online and as always, every thing can be boiled down to “Go to mundane location, bad things happen.”  The Final Destination franchise preys on our fears that we could die from a freak accident at any time.  I would love to see the Final Destination film where someone escapes the big accident at the beginning and then instead of the reaper getting him or her with a Rube Goldberg project of death, the person just dies from a long, protracted illness.  At least this one kind of raises an interesting moral quandary about whether or not you would kill an innocent person if it ensured your own survival.  And really, what would a Final Destination movie be without an arbitrary new rule that was never mentioned in the previous entries?
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Final Destination 5 opens in 3D on August 12th. http://collider.com/final-destination-5-trailer-2/100882/

Neil Burger to Write and Direct UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 7th, 2011

Neil Burger (Limitless) has signed on to write and direct the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  Burger replaces David O. Russell who left the project in May after Sony disagreed with O. Russell’s decision not to give fans exactly what they think they wanted (which, if it’s a straight adaptation of Drake’s Fortune, is just a video game they can’t play).  Variety reports that “producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner sparked to [Burger's] new take on the pic.”

Marc Forster’s MACHINE GUN PREACHER Slated for September 23rd

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

Relativity Media has picked up Marc Forster’s drama Machine Gun Preacher and will give the film a limited release on September 23rd.  The movie is based on the real-life story of Sam Childers (played by Gerard Butler), a former drug-dealer who eventually became a crusader for hundreds of refugee children in East Africa.  The film also stars Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, and Michael Shannon.
Since it’s opening in limited release (most likely to build buzz for a possible awards run), it won’t really be competing against the movies opening in wide release, but here’s the list anyway: Abduction starring Taylor Lautner, the family film Dolphin Tale 3D, the action flick Killer Elite, and the sports drama Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.  Hit the jump for the press release from Relativity. http://collider.com/machine-gun-preacher-release-date/100875/

International Teaser Trailer for THE IRON LADY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 7th, 2011

The international teaser trailer for the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady has gone online.  Because Meryl Streep can be nominated for an Oscar for just about anything she does and because the Academy loves impersonations of historical figures within a dramatic context, I’d say Streep is looking pretty good for her 17th Oscar nomination (it also helps that she’s an incredible actress).  This is all a way to say that if The Iron Lady hits US theaters before the end of the year (and since it debuts in the UK in January 2012, it would probably be ready before year’s end), one of the Best Actress nominations will be taken.  Sorry, other actresses.
Hit the jump to check out teaser trailer.  The Iron Lady also stars Harry Lloyd, Jim Broadbent, Anthony Head, and Olivia Colman.

First Look at Nori, Ori, and Dori in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: July 7th, 2011

The first part of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit is a still over a year-and-a-half away, but Warner Bros. is showing no hesitation in letting fans get an early look at how the project is developing.  We’ve already seen the first images from the movie and now the studio have released a first look at dwarves Nori (Jed Brophy), Ori (Adam Brown), and Dori (Mark Hadlow).  Nori, Ori, and Dori are three of the thirteen dwarves that accompany Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) “who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.”  I like the design of the costumes and make-up.  It’s clear they’re trying to emphasize that not all dwarves look like Gimli.
Hit the jump to check out the image along with a brief bio on the brothers Nori, Ori, and Dori.  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.  Both movies will be in 3D. http://collider.com/hobbit-movie-image-nori-ori-dori/100724/

Jason Statham is Older Sam Witwicky in "Transformers 4"?Posted: July 7th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staf

Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf are not returning for any more "Transformers" installments, which is why it was recently reported that Paramount Pictures are considering Jason Statham as the lead in "Transformers 4," which may be a reboot of the franchise.

But producer Don Murphy says that "Transformers 4" won't be a reboot. Instead, it may be a the beginning of a new trilogy. "What happens next? Certainly not a reboot," he explained. "We haven't lost the Transformers. They didn't grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don't know what happens next. I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy."

If the plan is to continue the franchise, there is a good chance Statham may play an older Sam Witwicky, the character LaBeouf has been playing in the last three films.

Summer Glau Wields A Sword In New Knights Of Badassdom Still

published: 2011-07-07 18:29:22 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Thanks to the film's presence at this year's Comic Con there should be plenty of news surrounding Knights of Badassdom coming in the next few weeks, but for now we haven't gotten an update from the film in a few months. Back at the start of the year the movie's official Facebook page delivered two awesome stills of star Peter Dinklage, with one featuring True Blood star Ryan Kwanten. The cast, however, is much larger than just those two names, and today we have our first shot of Summer Glau on set.

Brandishing a sword and standing what looks somewhat like a medieval fair ground, the former Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star delivers high levels on the badass meter, just as the title of the film would suggest. Also starring Danny Pudi, Steve Zahn, Jimmi Simpson, Margarita Levieva, Joshua Malina and Michael Gladis, the film is about a group of live-action role players (known to many as LARPers) who suddenly find themselves in real danger when they accidentally summon a demon.

Mark Wahlberg May Star in Action-Comedy BAIT AND SWITCH

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 5th, 2011

Universal has picked up Matthew J. O’Neill’s spec script Bait and Switch as a possible starring vehicle for Mark Wahlberg.  According to Variety, Wahlberg will produce along with Scott Stuber, John Jacobs, and Stephen Levinson.  Plot details are being kept under wraps but I hope it concerns straight-laced detective Reginald Bait and his loose-cannon partner Larry Switch.  Then the movie becomes a costume drama.
Wahlberg is about to start shooting on the Seth MacFarlane R-rated comedy Ted with Mila Kunis and Joel McHale.  He’s also attached to star in David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted.

New unofficial set photos from the dark coming-of-age indie Hick and George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March have gone online.  Hick stars Chloe Moretz as a runaway teen who flees her neglectful parents in Nebraska and tries to make her way in Las Vegas.  The film also stars Blake Lively, Eddie Redmayne, and Juliette Lewis.
As for Clooney’s latest directorial feature, The Ides of March stars Ryan Gosling as a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics.  Clooney will play the candidate who apparently has no problem re-appropriating Shepherd Fairey’s famous Obama sign.  The film also stars Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei, and Evan Rachel Wood.  The Ides of March is set for release on October 14th.  Hit the jump to check out the set photos.

***Casting Call: Fanning and Farmiga in PURE LIFE, Haas and Luna in CONTRABAND, and Randy Couture Joins Willis and Phillippe in SET UP ***Mark Wahlberg Says He’s Still in UNCHARTED; Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci Co-Starring

Casting Call: Fanning and Farmiga in PURE LIFE, Haas and Luna in CONTRABAND, and Randy Couture Joins Willis and Phillippe in SET UP

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 7th, 2011

We’ve got casting news for a trio of films for you today. First up, Elle Fanning (Somewhere) and Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) are set to star in the indie drama Pure Life. Directed by Van Fischer (Neo Ned), the film a 13-year-old girl in search of romance. Living in poverty, she finds a “bad boy” she deems worthy of taking her virginity. The Playlist reports that Farmiga will play the girl’s “hard-working and short-tempered” mother.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding UFC fighter Randy Couture joining Bruce Willis and Ryan Phillippe in Set Up, and Lukas Haas and Diego Luna signing up for Contraband.
Following his turn in Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, Randy Couture has joined the cast of the heist movie Set Up. He joins previously announced Bruce Willis, Ryan Phillippe, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Heat Vision reports that Couture will play “an enforcer who works for a local crime lord (Willis) tasked to oversee Jackson[‘s character] on an assignment.” The film is directed by stunt coordinator Mike Gunther, from a script he co-wrote with Mike Behrman.
Lukas Haas and Diego Luna have been added to the cast of director Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband. What’s Playing reports that the two join previously announced Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Foster. A remake of an Icelandic thriller, the film tells the story of a former smuggler trying to go straight as a night guard. When his wife’s brother (who got him the job) botches a smuggling run, his life is threatened and the protagonist is dragged in for one more job.

Mark Wahlberg Says He’s Still in UNCHARTED; Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci Co-Starring

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 7th, 2011

Last week, we told you that the video game director of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was denying that Mark Wahlberg was definitely going to star in the film adaptation of the popular adventure game. Not so fast, says Wahlberg:
David O’Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct. It’s myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro.
While that’s not a clear declaration that Wahlberg is officially signed on, it does sound like if that project happens, he’s definitely doing it. O’Russell’s currently doing the pre-Oscar press rounds for his latest film, The Fighter, but it sounds like he’s very much working on the Uncharted adaptation as well. There’s currently no official word on what specific roles De Niro and Pesci would be taking on, though Wahlberg previously stated his intention to have the two play his father and uncle respectively. Moviehole reports that they’re hoping to start shooting “in the summer time.” Though with the amount of times this project has flipped back and forth from being “on” and “off”, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

David O. Russell to Possibly Direct THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK Before UNCHARTED; Anne Hathaway and Bradley Cooper May Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 8th, 2010

While we’ve been assuming that David O. Russell would be following up his critically acclaimed new film The Fighter with an adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, that may not be the case.  According to Showbiz411, O. Russell is planning to adapt Matthew Quick’s novel The Silver Linings Playbook as his next project.  Showbiz also reports that Anne Hathaway is attached to star and that Bradley Cooper is being “wooed” for the male lead (whether that means he’s under consideration for the role or is actively in negotiations is unclear).  The plot centers on a former high school history teacher who gets out of a mental hospital and is placed in the care of his mother. His goal is to win back his ex wife, but he ends up falling for a kooky neighbor who also has mental problems of her own.
While this is the first we’re hearing about Silver Linings, Showbiz was pretty much on the money last month when they reported that Mark Wahlberg, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci were under consideration for Uncharted.  Hit the jump for more on O. Russell’s busy schedule.

In addition to Uncharted and now The Silver Linings Playbook, O. Russell has two more projects he’s circling.  He’s got an untitled cop-drama in the vein of Dirty Harry and Death Wish that could reteam him with his Three Kings star Ice Cube.  He’s also got the flick Old St. Louis with Vince Vaughn and Chloe Moretz.  Whatever O. Russell ends up choosing, hopefully there won’t be another six year delay like there was between I Heart Huckabees and The Fighter.
Here’s the official produce description for Matthew Quick’s novel [via Amazon]:
Meet Pat Peoples. Pat has a theory: his life is a movie produced by God. And his God-given mission is to become physically fit and emotionally literate, whereupon God will ensure him a happy ending—the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. (It might not come as a surprise to learn that Pat has spent several years in a mental health facility.)
The problem is, Pat’s now home, and everything feels off. No one will talk to him about Nikki; his beloved Philadelphia Eagles keep losing; he’s being pursued by the deeply odd Tiffany; his new therapist seems to recommend adultery as a form of therapy. Plus, he’s being haunted by Kenny G!

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum Confirmed for 21 JUMP STREET

by Ramses Flores    Posted: December 1st, 2010

We’ve known this for awhile now, but Sony has confirmed Jonah Hill (Get Him to the Greek) and Channing Tatum (Dear John) will star in the upcoming adaptation of 21 Jump Street. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) will be directing the film, which will be written by Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World).  Hill came up with the story with Bacall and has described it as being “a John Hughes movie with ‘Bad Boys’ style action.”  Emma Stone was attached to star in the film, but recently had to drop out due to her commitment with the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.  21 Jump Street is currently set to for a March 16, 2012 release date.  You can hit the jump to read the press release.

CULVER CITY, Calif., December 1, 2010 – Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are set to star in a contemporary motion picture adaptation of 21 Jump Street, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures. Hill and Tatum are executive producers on the project, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Michael Bacall based on a treatment from Hill and Bacall. Neal H. Moritz will produce the film with Stephen J. Cannell, who will receive posthumous credit.
Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad said, “Jonah helped create a smart and funny vehicle that is tailor-made for him and Channing. They are a perfect duo for this film and Phil and Chris have a terrific, accessible take on the material. We love how this movie has come together and are very excited to begin production this spring.”
Hannah Minghella and Jonathan Kadin are overseeing production for the film on behalf of the studio.
An early hit for Fox Broadcasting, “21 Jump Street” focused on young cops with youthful appearances who work undercover in high schools and colleges. The popular series starred Johnny Depp and several other young stars and hit home with the network’s key teen demographic from 1987-1991.
JONAH HILL starred opposite Michael Cera in the acclaimed hit Superbad, which grossed nearly $120 million at the US box office. He most recently starred in the Sundance Film Festival hit film Cyrus opposite John C. Reilly and Marisa Tomei and opposite Russell Brand in Get Him to the Greek. He also recently lent his voice to two films for DreamWorks Animation, Megamind and How to Train Your Dragon. Hill also appeared in Knocked Up, Funny People, The Invention of Lying, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and was heard in the animated film Horton Hears a Who!. He made his screen debut in I Heart Huckabees. Hill also produced Sacha Baron Cohen’s controversial comedy hit Brüno. Hill will next star opposite Brad Pitt in Columbia Pictures’ Moneyball and in David Gordon Green’s The Sitter for 20th Century Fox.
CHANNING TATUM most recently starred in the hit Dear John and will next be seen in a comedic turn in The Dilemma, which will be released on January 14, 2011 and will then star in the Roman epic adventure, The Eagle, directed by Kevin Macdonald and released on February 11, 2011. He is also starring in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. He just wrapped production on The Vow with Rachel Mcadams. He is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller & Hoberman.
Phil Lord and CHRISTOPHER MILLER most recently wrote and directed the animated hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs for Sony Pictures Animation. Among their television writing credits, Lord and Miller served as co-executive producers on “How I Met Your Mother,” the Emmy-winning primetime sitcom that began airing on CBS in September of 2005; and executive producers of both “Awesometown,” featuring the comedy troupe The Lonely Island, and the “Phil Hendrie” pilot. The team also worked as consulting producers on “Jake in Progress” and Cracking Up, supervising producers on “Method & Red” and “Luis,” and staff writers on “Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane.” The team also created, executive produced, and directed the MTV animated series “Clone High,” for which Lord also provided the voices of Principal Scudworth and Genghis Khan and Miller voiced John F. Kennedy and Mr. Butlertron. Lord and Miller also played the recurring roles of Bill and Cliff, respectively, in “Caroline in the City.”

Josh Brolin Looking to Direct and Star in PITZ & JOE

by Ben Garman    Posted: December 1st, 2010

After his debut as a director in 2008 with the short film ‘X‘, Josh Brolin seems to have acquired a taste for the job and is hoping to step behind the camera again to direct his first feature film: an adaptation of the highly-acclaimed play by Dominique Cieri, Pitz & Joe. The Warner Bros. production is based on Cieri’s personal experiences, and is apparently a “two character drama about a young woman and her brain-damaged brother”. Although initial reports suggested that Brolin might also be writing the adaptation, according to The Playlist, the screenplay will be penned by Maya Forbes (Monsters vs Aliens) and will instead see Brolin starring in addition to directing. Hit the jump for more.

Cieri’s play was described by theatrical director Stephen Burdman as “a beautiful blend of the past, and how you work through the past to get to the future”. The story focuses on a divorced painter and her relationship with her junkie brother, who five years earlier was involved in a catastrophic motorcycle accident that left him severely brain damaged. The plot evolves through a series of flashbacks that explore the dramatic highs and lows of their lives prior to the event. Burdman sums it up: “The reason it’s so beautiful is that it’s deep set in true family love. To me, it’s about being alive.”
Hopefully, Brolin hasn’t bitten off more than he can chew. It seems like an almighty task for a first time actor-turned-director to be tackling such an emotionally wrought tale, particularly an actor so busy! Currently Brolin is shooting Men In Black III, and working on thriller Someone in the Dark alongside Kristen Stewart. The No Country for Old Men actor is also soon to hit cinemas in another likely Coen Brothers hit, True Grit, which opens December 22nd.

David O. Russell Talks UNCHARTED; Film Will Include Nathan Drake’s Extended Family and International Intrigue

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 1st, 2010

While doing press for his new film The Fighter, writer-director David O. Russell talked about his upcoming movie: an adaptation of the popular video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  While the game centers on protagonist Nathan Drake’s search to find El Dorado (and killing a disturbing number of henchmen along the way), according to 24 Frames, O. Russell’s adaptation will “include Drake’s extended family — and put them in fraught, globetrotting situations with some of the world’s most influential people.”  This coincides with an earlier statement from Mark Wahlberg (who’s playing Drake) that they’re trying to get Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci to play Drake’s father and uncle, respectively.
Hit the jump for more on what O. Russell had to say about what attracted him to Uncharted.
So what drew O. Russell, who’s known more for his indie work than big summer blockbusters?  The filmmaker tells 24 Frames:
“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities … [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice…. We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now.  And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”
That actually sounds like an interesting take on the material.  It’s not like the game is some story-rich adventure as much as a series of pretenses for murdering an ungodly number of bad guys.  It will be interesting to see how much of the game O. Russell incorporates into his movie beyond the title and the main character.

Ang Lee Looking to Cast Bollywood Actors for LIFE OF PI

by Ramses Flores    Posted: December 1st, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) had found the lead star for his upcoming 3D adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi with seventeen-year-old newcomer Surej Sharma.  The highly acclaimed novel tells the story of a boy named Pi, who gets stranded at sea for 227 days with a tiger. Now, with production set to start in January, Ang Lee is looking to cast the boy’s parents in the film.
According to TimesofIndia (via ThePlaylist), Lee hopes to cast popular Bollywood actress Tabu in the role of Pi’s mother, while Bollywood actors Sushant Singh and Sonu Sood are up for role of Pi’s father. By doing this, Lee will be following in the footsteps of Danny Boyle, who also chose to cast Bollywood actors in leading roles for Slumdog MillionaireLife of Pi is set to open on December 14, 2012.  You can hit the jump to read a plot synopsis for the novel.

Here’s a plot synopsis for Life of Pi via Amazon:
The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes.
The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days while lost at sea. When they finally reach the coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities who interrogate Pi refuse to believe his story and press him to tell them “the truth.” After hours of coercion, Pi tells a second story, a story much less fantastical, much more conventional–but is it more true?

Mark Wahlberg to Play Nathan Drake in UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE; De Niro and Pesci Under Consideration to Co-Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:November 24th, 2010

Earlier this month, we reported the rumor that Mark Wahlberg was to play the lead in David O. Russell’s adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.  We also reported that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were in talks to co-star.  Speaking to MTV, Wahlberg has now clarified those rumors.  He confirms that he will play the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake (sorry, Nathan Fillion).  It will be his fourth film with O. Russell.  Said Wahlberg,
“David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with.  The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
Hit the jump for how De Niro and Pesci fit into the picture and my thoughts on Wahlberg as Drake.
Neither De Niro nor Pesci are officially on board, but Wahlberg tells MTV that he’s spoken to Pesci and that O. Russell’s people have talked with De Niro.  As to who the two Hollywood icons would play:
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
I’m not sure what the watered-down version is.  I can’t imagine this movie getting an R-rating despite the violence of the video game and that Drake basically murders about 500 people over the course of the story.  As for De Niro and Pesci, Drake’s father and uncle have never appeared in the games, so it will be interesting to see how far O. Russell’s script branches into new territory.  The first game centers on Drake’s quest for El Dorado while the second game has him searching for Shangri-La.
But I’m not a huge fan of casting Wahlberg.  Wahlberg plays a good tough guy, but Drake (at least the endearing Drake from the game) is more scrappy and resourceful.  He’s the guy who goes “Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!” when a grenade lands near him.  It’s a looser character and while Wahlberg may be able to play it, he’s always seemed too uptight and stoic, even in a comedy like The Other Guys.  Hopefully he’ll be able to pull it off, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that Fillion didn’t get the role.

New Clip from Darren Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN

by Ben Garman    Posted:November 24th, 2010

Following on from our recent interview with Mila Kunis about her exciting role in upcoming psychological thriller Black Swan, we’re excited to offer a new clip from the movie. It’s just shy of a minute long, but it certainly conjures some serious intensity as Natalie Portman get’s the heebie jeebies during a wardrobe fitting. Anyone unsure of the tone of the movie will be left in no doubt after watching this – it’s an excerpt that’ll have you clamoring for the whole film. Sadly you’ll have to wait a few weeks.  Black Swan opens on December 3rd. The film also stars Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder.
Hit the jump for the clip and further coverage of the film.

Aside from the natural eeriness of the new video clip, one thing that really struck me is the darkly haunting, ominous soundtrack by Clint Mansell. Mansell has a long history with Aronofsky, dating all the way back to his first film soundtrack for Pi in 1998, and anyone who has seen The Fountain will know his scores are near perfection. For Black Swan the composer has loosely based his music on Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake – the ballet at the heart of the film. Things just keep getting better!
Here’s the official synopsis for Black Swan:
BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.
Be sure to check out the bizarrely beautiful posters to the film, award-worthy alone, and don’t miss the trailer. If after all this you’re still not sufficiently psyched, (God help you – I’m burning up with anticipation), then watch this trippy music video for a quick hit.
