Set Images from SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D

Based on the fan-favorite video game franchise, 2006’s Silent Hill was panned by critics and never made a profit from domestic sales. However, reaching nearly $100 million in sales internationally and making Box Office Mojo’s Top 10 video game adaptations was apparently enough to elicit a sequel. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D creeped us out a couple of months ago with some carnival-themed set pieces.
Today we have some new images from the set, ones that take a closer look at some of our favorite characters and monsters. Sharp-eyed viewers among you might be able to spot Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) looking creepier than I’ve ever seen her before. Bryan Cranston in Talks to Join Ben Affleck’s ARGO

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 28th, 2011

Casting seems to be moving right along for Ben Affleck’s next directorial project Argo. Just yesterday, it was announced that John Goodman and Affleck himself had joined Alan Arkin in the cast, and now Variety reports that Bryan Cranston is in negotiations to take on one of the lead roles. The film tells the true story of how the CIA and the Canadian government teamed up to rescue six U.S. diplomats who had been taken hostage by Iranians in 1979. The CIA’s ruse involved convincing the Iranian government that the diplomats were actually a Hollywood film crew scouting locations.
Cranston will play an Irish CIA agent from Boston who used to be the bodyguard to President Eisenhower. Goodman plays Oscar-winning Planet of the Apes makeup artist John Chambers, Arkin is set to portray a Hollywood producer and O.S.S. veteran, and Affleck is taking on the lead. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing. Given the caliber of Affleck’s recent work and the cast he’s assembled so far,  Argo is shaping up to be quite the flick. http://collider.com/bryan-cranston-argo/99368/

Paramount has released the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth entry in the spy franchise. The trailer is pretty much everything you want out of a Mission: Impossible movie, and it looks like it could be the best yet. The action looks great without being cheesy or showy, and the cast assembled here is top-notch. Plus, freaking Brad Bird (Ratatouille) is making his live-action directorial debut.
Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames reprise their series roles, joined by Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor, Léa Seydoux, and Vladimir Mashkov. Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is on board as producer.  Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens on December 16.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Clint Eastwood Wants Leonard DiCaprio to Join Beyoncé in A STAR IS BORN

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 27th, 2011

I’m sure plenty of filmmakers want Leonardo DiCaprio to star in their film. That said, there aren’t many working directors who have the type of clout that Clint Eastwood carries around. So, although it is anything but a done deal, when we hear that Eastwood is courting DiCaprio for his take on the musical A Star Is Born, it becomes news. Deadline reports that the director is using his time with DiCaprio on their J. Edgar Hoover biopic to discuss the possibility of him joining the pic which is set up at Warner Bros.
There has long been talk that Will Smith would join Beyoncé in the film as the aging alcoholic star who sparks a relationship with the up-and-coming beauty. While those rumors are free to continue circulating, Eastwood’s apparent interest in DiCaprio may very well steal some of its thunder for the time being. There have been several theatrical versions of A Star Is Born to grace the silver screen with the 1976 version pairing Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand and 1954′s starring James Mason and Judy Garland. Will Fetters (Remember Me) wrote the script for the upcoming remake. http://collider.com/leonardo-dicaprio-a-star-is-born-clint-eastwood/99087/

David Strathairn Cast as William Seward in Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 27th, 2011

Oscar-nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck.) has been cast in the Steven Spielberg-directed Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln. Straithairn will make a turn as Lincoln’s Secretary of State, William Seward, in the film which is scheduled to begin filming this fall in Virginia in time for a fourth quarter 2012 (a.k.a. “Oscar season”) theatrical release. The actor joins a cast that already includes Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. Spielberg had this to say of Strathairn’s casting:
“Throughout his career, David Strathairn has consistently delivered  performances of strength and character. That’s why I am so pleased that he will portray the Secretary of State, who became such a dominant figure in Lincoln’s ‘team of rivals’ cabinet.”
For those unaware, Lincoln is written by Oscar-nominee Tony Kushner (Munich) and is based on the Doris Kearns Goodwin book, Team of Rivals. Last month, we reported that Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon Levitt, James Spader, John Hawkes and several others were in serious talks to join the pic as well. As for Strathairn, he can next be seen alongside Rachel Weisz in the drama The Whistleblower which hits U.S. theaters on August 5th. Hit the jump to check out a synopsis of Goodwin’s book.  http://collider.com/david-strathairn-lincoln/99090/

Casting Call: Nicole Kidman in Talks for THE PAPERBOY as Tobey Maguire Drops Out, John Goodman Joins Ben Affleck’s ARGO

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 27th, 2011

We’ve got a couple more casting stories for you today. First up, Nicole Kidman is now in talks to join the cast of Lee Daniels’ (Precious) adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel The Paperboy. THR reports that Kidman would replace Sofia Vergara, who was forced to drop out after Tobey Maguire’s exit from the project shifted the schedule, imposing on her Modern Family shoot. Matthew McConaughey and Zac Efron are apparently still attached to star in the film, which centers on the slacker son of a newspaper editor in Florida, who gets wrapped up in investigating a murder case. Filming is set to begin later this summer.

Ben Affleck Will Also Star in His Next Directorial Feature, ARGO

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 27th, 2011

Director Ben Affleck first started considering Argo as his next project in February.  In the months since, Affleck cast Alan Arkin and John Goodman in two supporting roles.  Until tonight, Affleck had yet to announce the man to play Tony Mendez, “the CIA exfiltration expert who created a fake Hollywood production to get six Americans who were hiding out at the Canadian ambassador’s out of Iran.”  According to Variety, Affleck will assume the lead role himself.  Affleck, Arkin, and Goodman make a formidable trio at the top of the playbill.
George Clooney and Grant Heslov are on board as producers under their Smokehouse banner.  Chris Terrio (Heights) wrote the script based on a Wired magazine article titled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.”  Read more about the truly movie-worthy subject matter after the break. http://collider.com/ben-affleck-argo-movie/99176/

Jamie Chung and Scoot McNairy to Star in EDEN, an Indie Drama About Human Trafficking

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: June 27th, 2011

Most recently seen playing Ed Helms’ fiancée in The Hangover Part II, Jamie Chung is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces. Early roles in such clunkers as Dragonball: Evolution and Sorority Row led Chung to small parts in the widely viewed Adam Sandler/Kevin James flicks I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Grown Ups. Now, Chung has a chance to topline in Eden, an indie flick directed by Megan Griffiths (The Off Hours), in a true-to-life story about a Korean-American girl who is abducted by human traffickers and sold into prostitution. Eden tells not only the story of her abduction, but also how she spent two years of imprisonment manipulating and influencing her captors to gain power and stay alive.
Scoot McNairy, who starred in Griffith’s The Off Hours, is in negotiations to co-star alongside Chung. The script, written by Griffiths and Richard B. Phillips is based on a story by Phillips and Chong Kim. Shooting is planned for August of this year in Seattle and eastern Washington state. Hit the jump for more on Chung and McNairy’s current projects. http://collider.com/jamie-chung-scoot-mcnairy-eden/99161/

Haley Joel Osment to Star in Frankenstein Retelling WAKE THE DEAD

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 27th, 2011

After an eight year hiatus from the movies, Haley Joel Osment is making a return to acting with three independent projects.  The first two are in post-production, with no release set and truly unfortunate titles: Sassy Pants and Montana Amazon.  The third has a fine title (Wake the Dead) and should have no trouble finding distribution given the marketability.  Variety reports that Osment will play Victor Franklin, a college student who experiments with raising the dead in a present-day retelling of Frankenstein.
Wake the Dead is set up at Slasher Films, a production company launched by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.  Jay Russell (The Water Horse) will direct from a script he co-wrote with James V. Hart (August Rush), based on Steve Niles comic of the same name.  Wake the Dead is one of many upcoming projects based on the Frankenstein tale.  Hit the jump for a recap. http://collider.com/haley-joel-osment-wake-the-dead-frankenstein/99139/

Carey Mulligan and Gary Ross Will Travel to the OUTBACK

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 27th, 2011

Oscar-nominees Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Gary Ross (Pleasantville) will join forces in the sci-fi action pic Outback. Per Variety, Nissar Modi (Z for Zachariah) will pen the script based upon an original idea developed by he and Ross. Tobey Maguire will co-produce Outbreak alongside Ross. Graham King and Tim Headington will also co-produce under King’s GK Films moniker. Details regarding the film are close to the vest at this point with the report only divulging that it will be set in the Australian outback.
Mulligan is filming director Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby this summer with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Isla Fisher. She can next be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive which is slated to hit theaters on September 16th. As for Ross, the director is currently filming The Hunger Games for Lionsgate. http://collider.com/carey-mulligan-outback-gary-ross/99132/

3 Clips from TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: June 24th, 2011

With director Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon getting released next week, Paramount has sent over three clips from the film. Even thought the clips had previously been released, I figure a few of you haven’t seen them, and I’ve also put them in one video player so they’re easy to watch.

Everything I’ve seen from TF3 tells me this is going to be one hell of a ride. Here’s my reaction to watching 15 minutes of footage. Remember, Bay filmed the third installment in 3D, so it’s definitely worth checking it out in 3D. After watching a number of scenes in 3D a few weeks ago, I think TF3 will raise the bar like Avatar. We’ll find out next week. Hit the jump for the clips. http://collider.com/transformers-3-dark-moon-movie-clips/98550/

John Goodman In Talks To Join Ben Affleck's Argo
published: 2011-06-24 20:35:56 Author: Eric Eisenberg

If there was ever a movie made about you, what actor do you think casting agents would hire if they were going on looks alone? Because 9/10ths of us are superficial assholes, chances are that most people would say George Clooney or Scarlett Johannson instead of Steve Buscemi or Chewbacca. We can't all look like Brad Pitt. Some of us look like John Goodman, and there's nothing wrong with that. Let's hope former make-up artist John Chambers' surviving family doesn't take offense.

Variety reports that Goodman has entered talks to play in Argo, the political thriller being directed by Ben Affleck. Based on true events, the film is about a secret CIA mission during in 1979 to rescue six American hostages being held captive in Iran. The unit was successful in their mission by pretending that they were part of a film crew scouting locations in the area. The title comes from the name of the fake movie, which was originally supposed to be an adaptation of the Roger Zelazny book "Lord of Light" that was never made. Already attached to the project is Alan Arkin, who will be playing Lester Siegel, a Hollywood producer hired to make the "film production" seem more authentic. Chambers, whom Goodman will be playing in the film, is best known for his work on all five of the original Planet of the Apes movies.

There's nothing about this project thus far that suggests it will be anything less than amazing. Affleck has now twice proven that he's a bigger talent behind the camera than in front of it and between Arkin and Goodman he already has the makings of an incredible cast. The only way I would be more excited would be if they were going the Wag The Dog approach and playing up the lighter side of the situation, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Ray Liotta To Play A Corrupt Cop In Derek Cianfrance's A Place Beyond The Pines
published: 2011-06-24 22:26:49 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Ray Liotta is like a scientist who discovered the cure for cancer but forgot to write down the formula, so he spends the rest of his life trying to recreate it. In 1990, the actor starred in what is widely considered to be one of the greatest gangster films of all time, Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, but in the nearly 50 films since hasn't found a project even close to the same level of quality. Perhaps the missing part of that equation is working with another terrific director, and here's hoping he has found that in Derek Cianfrance.

Liotta is set to play a corrupt cop (again) in Cianfrance's A Place Beyond The Pines, according to Variety. The film, which is the director's follow-up to last year's incredible Blue Valentine, is about a motorcycle racer - played by Ryan Gosling - who starts robbing banks and goes head-to-head with a young cop - played by Bradley Cooper - who wants to take him down. When I spoke to Cianfrance last December, he told me that the project has been four years in the making and that the film begins with Gosling finding out that he's a father. Initially describing the movie as involving motorcycles and guns, the filmmaker wants to show violence in an unfiltered way and how horrific it can be. Said Cianfrance,

"Blue Valentine is a very emotionally violent movie and so difficult, so I want to put guns in this one and show just the cowardly nature of guns and how chicken-shit they are, basically, and to show the reverberations of guns. It’s just like the sexuality of Blue Valentine, I wanted to look at it straight, I wanted to look at it without a filter, without a sensationalized filter, without trying to make it erotic or titillating. I just wanted to look at it as part of the character. There’s sexuality in Pines too, and violence. The violence is going to hurt. It’s not easy violence; it’s not violence that’s taken lightly. It’s violence that’s violent."Between the plot lines about a motorist moonlighting as a criminal, Ryan Gosling's involvement, and the promised brutality of the violence, this project is starting to remind me a lot of Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. While I'd like to say that there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I truly believe that Cianfrance is a great director and I'd hate to see his next film suffer in the shadows of a different-but-similar project. Given the creative minds at work, there's something in the back of my mind that's telling me I don't need to worry.

Emma Stone Won't Be Starring In Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
published: 2011-06-24 16:28:02 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Earlier this week it was reported that Easy A star Emma Stone had been offered the lead in the Craig Gillespie-directed adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's important to note at this juncture that the story didn't say that she was confirmed to star, and it didn't say that she was negotiating a deal. Do you see where this is going yet?

Deadline reports that Stone has decided to pass on the comedy-horror film. While it was never confirmed, it was widely expected that the actress was offered the role of Elizabeth Bennet, who, in the altered story, is turned into a zombie-killing expert. The production has had more than it's fair share of problems since being announced in late 2009. David O. Russell was originally signed on to direct with Natalie Portman starring, but both dropped out, as did Mike White, Russell's replacement, a few months later.

While I'm sure that Stone would look amazing wearing blood-soaked period garments, I think this was a smart move on her part. Stone already has undead experience with a co-starring role in Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland. While it still may be a few years off, a sequel is still planned, and mainstream audiences might not like seeing Stone doing too much of the same thing. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it's a good career move.

Susan Sarandon to Stalk Jonah Hill in "Pitchfork" Thriller

Posted: June 9th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Mark and Jay Duplass are planning to re-team with their "Cyrus" star Jonah Hill for "Pitchfork" thriller that the duo are currently shopping around. At this point, the project is only a script, but has both Hill and Susan Sarandon attached to star.

The new movie revolves around a middle-aged mother (Sarandon) of an indie rocker who, after her son is killed in a car accident, seeks vengeance on an online blogger who had peddled snark about her son (on the music site Pitchfork). Things take a turn, though, when she finds out the snarker is just a teenager (Hill).

The Duplass brothers have a pattern of exploring the mother-son relationship in their movie. "Cyrus" was about a son (Hill) who liked his mother (Tomei) a bit too much, and their new movie "Jeff Who Lives at Home" focuses on a grown man (Jason Segel) who is sent by his mother on a routine errand to find that the universe may be sending him strange signals.

Shia LaBeouf Confirms He Won't Return for "Transformers 4"

Posted: June 10th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Shia LaBeouf is out there once again saying that the latest installment of "Transformers" is the best in the franchise, despite admitting that the second film wasn't that good. "['Dark of the Moon'] is the best movie we've made, I'm serious," he said. "It's not a joke. This is our best installment. It's our best movie."

If he's telling the truth, the third installment will just propel the franchise to new highs in terms of both box office and critical success. Unfortunately, LaBeouf says that he's not planning to return for "Transformers 4."

"I'm not coming back to do another one. I don't think Mike will either," he explained. "It still is a hot property, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they'll reboot it at some point with someone else."

Casting Call: Alan Arkin Joins Ben Affleck’s ARGO, James Badge Dale Up for WORLD WAR Z, Elodie Yung in Talks for G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 10th, 2011

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Ben Affleck has tapped Alan Arkin to star in his Tehran hostage crisis flick Argo. Affleck is poised to direct the film, which is based on a Wired magazine article entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.” The true story tells how the CIA and the Canadian government teamed up to rescue six U.S. diplimats who had been taken hostage by Iranians in 1979. The CIA developed a ruse that involved convincing the Iranians that the diplomats were a Hollywood film crew scouting locations for a movie called “Argo.” Variety reports that Arkin will play a Hollywood producer who’s an O.S.S. veteran and is described as “equal parts bookie and rabbi.” George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing.
Additionally, James Badge Dale (The Pacific) is in negotiations to join Brad Pitt in Marc Forster’s World War Z. The film is based on the book of the same name which details the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse from the perspective of survivors as varied as mercenaries, US government officials, and impoverished Palestinians. Showblitz reports that Dale will play an American soldier trying to convince the authorities of the danger the zombies pose, and he joins Mireille Enos (The Killing) and possibly Anthony Mackie in the flick which starts production this summer. Hit the jump for the casting news of Elodie Yung in G.I. Joe 2. and a synopsis of the book World War Z. http://collider.com/alan-arkin-argo-james-badge-dale-world-war-z-elodie-yung-g-i-joe-2/95888/

New Trailer for LARRY CROWNE Starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 10th, 2011

Tom_Hanks_Larry_Crowne_image slice
Universal has released a new trailer for Larry Crowne. Co-written, directed by and starring Tom Hanks, the story centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts). The new trailer is fairly similar to the first one that was released, but we do get a look at a pitch-perfect George Takei as an Economics professor. Hanks’ previous directorial effort, That Thing You Do!, is fantastic, and he’s assembled a top-notch cast here for what looks to be some nice light-hearted relief in the middle of a summer full of blockbusters and “Kevin James babysits a cat” comedies.
Hanks and Roberts are joined in the film by Bryan Cranston, Taraji P. Henson, Cedric the Entertainer and Rami Malek. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Larry Crowne hits theaters July 1st.

Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), and Rosamund Pike (An Education) are reportedly on the short list to play the female lead in the new Superman film opposite Henry Cavill (The Tudors).  But get this — it’s not Lois Lane.  It has not been revealed what role they’re up for, surely thanks to the secrecy producer Christopher Nolan is able to maintain on his projects.  It is not specified if Lois will appear in a reduced capacity, but it appears the female lead will not be Ms. Lane as assumed in previous rumors.  Shades of Mary Jane Watson’s absence in the Spider-Man reboot in favor of Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacey.
Zack Snyder is directing the superhero reboot from a script by David Goyer, due in December 2012.  More after the jump:

Ben Affleck in Talks to Direct ARGO; George Clooney and Grant Heslov Producing

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

Following the critical and commercial success of The Town, we’ve watched Ben Affleck deliberate over his follow-up.  Possibilities include a film about the conflict in eastern Congo, Replay, The Trade, and American Bullshit.  Just a hunch, but the latest option could be the one that sticks.  Affleck is in early negotiations to direct Argo , a political drama which revolves around the Iran hostage crisis in 1979.  George Clooney and Grant Heslov (The American) are producing along with David Klawans (Nacho Libre).
Chris Terrio (Heights) wrote the script based on a Wired magazine article titled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.”  Read about the wacky spy hijinks after the jump:

Ralph Fiennes in Talks for BOND 23; Kevin Spacey Was Under Consideration for a Minute

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

At this stage, only franchise star Daniel Craig and Judi Dench are confirmed to return for Bond 23, with Sam Mendes (Away We Go) directing.  The casting process kicked into the next gear earlier this week, though, when Javier Bardem spoke out about possibly playing the villain.  In keeping the discussion among Oscar nominees, the producers are in early talks with Ralph Fiennes to play a role.
Mendes and Fiennes are old friends, ever since the actor starred in the director’s stage production of Troilus And Cressida more than two decades ago.  Fiennes is intrigued by the “darkly complex role,” which is reportedly different from the one that was offered to Bardem.  Details after the break:
