Susan Sarandon to Stalk Jonah Hill in "Pitchfork" Thriller

Posted: June 9th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Mark and Jay Duplass are planning to re-team with their "Cyrus" star Jonah Hill for "Pitchfork" thriller that the duo are currently shopping around. At this point, the project is only a script, but has both Hill and Susan Sarandon attached to star.

The new movie revolves around a middle-aged mother (Sarandon) of an indie rocker who, after her son is killed in a car accident, seeks vengeance on an online blogger who had peddled snark about her son (on the music site Pitchfork). Things take a turn, though, when she finds out the snarker is just a teenager (Hill).

The Duplass brothers have a pattern of exploring the mother-son relationship in their movie. "Cyrus" was about a son (Hill) who liked his mother (Tomei) a bit too much, and their new movie "Jeff Who Lives at Home" focuses on a grown man (Jason Segel) who is sent by his mother on a routine errand to find that the universe may be sending him strange signals.

Tom Hanks' New "Larry Crowne" Trailer

Posted: June 11th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Today we have a brand new trailer for the upcoming "Larry Crowne" drama/comedy, which stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. The film is directed by Hanks and is set to hit theaters on July 1st. Check out the trailer below.

Plot: Until he was downsized, Larry Crowne (Hanks) was a superstar team leader at a major company where he's worked since his time in the Navy. Underwater on his mortgage and unclear on what to do with his free days, Larry heads to his local college to start over. There he becomes part of a community of outcasts, who are all trying to find a better future for themselves.

In his public-speaking class, Larry develops an unexpected crush on his teacher Mercedes Tainot (Roberts), who has lost as much passion for teaching as she has for her husband. The simple guy who has every reason to think his life has stalled will come to learn an unexpected lesson: when you think everything worth having has passed you by, you just might discover your reason  to live.

Shia LaBeouf Confirms He Won't Return for "Transformers 4"

Posted: June 10th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Shia LaBeouf is out there once again saying that the latest installment of "Transformers" is the best in the franchise, despite admitting that the second film wasn't that good. "['Dark of the Moon'] is the best movie we've made, I'm serious," he said. "It's not a joke. This is our best installment. It's our best movie."

If he's telling the truth, the third installment will just propel the franchise to new highs in terms of both box office and critical success. Unfortunately, LaBeouf says that he's not planning to return for "Transformers 4."

"I'm not coming back to do another one. I don't think Mike will either," he explained. "It still is a hot property, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they'll reboot it at some point with someone else."

Casting Call: Alan Arkin Joins Ben Affleck’s ARGO, James Badge Dale Up for WORLD WAR Z, Elodie Yung in Talks for G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: June 10th, 2011

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Ben Affleck has tapped Alan Arkin to star in his Tehran hostage crisis flick Argo. Affleck is poised to direct the film, which is based on a Wired magazine article entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.” The true story tells how the CIA and the Canadian government teamed up to rescue six U.S. diplimats who had been taken hostage by Iranians in 1979. The CIA developed a ruse that involved convincing the Iranians that the diplomats were a Hollywood film crew scouting locations for a movie called “Argo.” Variety reports that Arkin will play a Hollywood producer who’s an O.S.S. veteran and is described as “equal parts bookie and rabbi.” George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing.
Additionally, James Badge Dale (The Pacific) is in negotiations to join Brad Pitt in Marc Forster’s World War Z. The film is based on the book of the same name which details the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse from the perspective of survivors as varied as mercenaries, US government officials, and impoverished Palestinians. Showblitz reports that Dale will play an American soldier trying to convince the authorities of the danger the zombies pose, and he joins Mireille Enos (The Killing) and possibly Anthony Mackie in the flick which starts production this summer. Hit the jump for the casting news of Elodie Yung in G.I. Joe 2. and a synopsis of the book World War Z. http://collider.com/alan-arkin-argo-james-badge-dale-world-war-z-elodie-yung-g-i-joe-2/95888/

New Trailer for LARRY CROWNE Starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts

Universal has released a new trailer for Larry Crowne. Co-written, directed by and starring Tom Hanks, the story centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts). The new trailer is fairly similar to the first one that was released, but we do get a look at a pitch-perfect George Takei as an Economics professor. Hanks’ previous directorial effort, That Thing You Do!, is fantastic, and he’s assembled a top-notch cast here for what looks to be some nice light-hearted relief in the middle of a summer full of blockbusters and “Kevin James babysits a cat” comedies.
Hanks and Roberts are joined in the film by Bryan Cranston, Taraji P. Henson, Cedric the Entertainer and Rami Malek. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Larry Crowne hits theaters July 1st.

Halle Berry Says the Wachowskis’ Adaptation of CLOUD ATLAS Will Shoot Next Summer

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 29th, 2010

Back in September, we reported that the Wachowski Siblings were working on a mysterious project called Cobalt Neural but were also eyeing the director’s chair for an adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas with Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman, and Halle Berry attached to star.  At a Q&A following a screening of Berry’s new film Frankie & Alice for the 42nd NAACP Image Awards, the actress said that she’s planning to shoot Cloud Atlas in the summer.  Hit the jump for Berry’s quote and more on Cloud Atlas.

Here’s what Berry said regarding Cloud Atlas [via The Playlist]:
“I’m going to do a movie probably in the summer with the Wachowskis…..A really interesting movie [that is] sort of [like] what they did for ‘The Matrix,’ they have another really amazing idea that’s sort of gonna stretch our brains even further. And so I’m really excited about that and that’s probably gonna be in the summer. And that’s with Tom Hanks and Natalie Portman.”
As we previously reported, Tom Twyker (Run Lola Run) is handling the script and the Wachowskis are producing and possibly directing a few of the novel’s six interlocking story-lines.  Here’s the synopsis for Mitchell’s novel:
A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.
In his captivating third novel, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of language, genre and time to offer a meditation on humanity’s dangerous will to power, and where it may lead us.
Ian McKellen and James McAvoy have also been mentioned in connection to the adaptation, but as far as we know, neither is attached at this point.

Carey Mulligan and James Badge Dale Possibly Co-Starring with Michael Fassbender in SHAME

Shame, Steve McQueen’s follow-up to Hunger, has picked up two more talented actors.  According to The Irish Film & Television Network [via The Playlist], Carey Mulligan and James Badge Dale (Rubicon) have joined Michael Fassbender in the drama, which centers on Brandon (Fassbender), a Manhattan office worker with a sex addiction.  The Playlist reports that a look at the script leads them to believe that Mulligan is likely to play Sissy, Brandon’s sister, although she might be playing Marianne, a co-worker of Brandon’s that he begins a relationship with.  Dale is likely to be playing Brandon’s boss, David.
IFTN also reports that McQueen will be re-teaming with his Hunger cinematographer Sean Bobbit.  Shame is schedule to shoot for six weeks in New York with a release in the UK scheduled for late 2011.  Mulligan is currently wrapping work on Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive and will presumably shoot Shame before moving on to play Daisy in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby.  She’s also attached to star in Violet & Daisy and Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway to Host the Oscars

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 29th, 2010

Last year, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin took the stage at the Academy Awards and did a great job hosting.  Now there’s a rumor that the Academy may be going for co-hosting again but with James Franco and Anne Hathaway.  Deadline is reporting that the pair has accepted the gig and an official announcement could be made this week.  However, I’m in agreement with Awards Daily that this rumor is bunk.  While Franco and Hathaway are charming, it’s tough to see them as a draw for expanding the show’s dwindling audience.  However, it would be interesting to see the Oscars hire a host who is likely to receive an Oscar nomination (Franco for 127 Hours).  While I think Franco and Hathaway could do a great job, I’m remaining skeptical.  Click here to see Hugh Jackman’s wonderful opening number with Hathaway from two years ago.
Update: So much for my skepticism.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that James Franco and Anne Hathaway will host the 83rd Academy Awards.  Best of luck to them both.  Hit the jump for the press release.
Here’s the press release:
JAMES FRANCO AND ANNE HATHAWAY To Host Oscars® Show

Franco, who currently can be seen in “127 Hours,” will be making his second appearance on an Oscars telecast. His other film credits include “Eat, Pray, Love” “Date Night,” “Milk” and “Pineapple Express.” He is also known for his portrayal of Harry Osborn in the “Spider-Man” trilogy.
Hathaway will be making her fifth appearance on an Academy Awards telecast.
