**Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Tyler Labine, and Addison Timlin to Star in LUMPY **Catherine Zeta-Jones to Play Villain in ROCK OF AGES **Trailer for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS **Poster for THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE Starring Dominic Cooper

Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Tyler Labine, and Addison Timlin to Star in LUMPY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 20th, 2011

Justin Long, Jess Weixler (Teeth), Tyler Labine (Reaper), and Addison Timlin (Californication) will star in the indie LumpyDeadline reports that the story “begins with a wedding in Arizona, where the groom (Long) and bride (Weixler) find their nuptials heightened by their life of the party best man, Lumpy (Labine). That’s until he dies at the end of the evening.” Which I suppose would then make him the death of the party.  Either way, the newlyweds cancel their honeymoon and head to Minneapolis to arrange a funeral, but slowly they discover that perhaps they didn’t know Lumpy as well as they thought.
Michael Landes, Evan Jones, and Shelley Long will co-star in the film, which is the feature directing debut of Ted Koland who also wrote the script.  Filming is currently underway in Minnesota.

Catherine Zeta-Jones to Play Villain in ROCK OF AGES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 20th, 2011

Catherine Zeta-Jones scored an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her work in 2002’s Chicago and now it looks like she’ll be making a return to the musical genre.  THR reports that Zeta-Jones has joined Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.  Zeta-Jones will play the film’s villain, a character who isn’t in the Broadway version, but is described by Shankman as “if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child. She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock’n roll in the great city of Los Angeles.”  Shankman says the character was devised as a way to streamline various storylines.
Zeta-Jones, who has been absent from screens the past several years, is a welcome addition to the cast since she can hit the trifecta of acting, singing, and dancing.  She also recently joined Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall, as well as the comedy Playing the Field starring Gerard Butler.  Rock of Ages’s cast includes an interesting mix of famous faces (Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand) as well as up-and-comers Diego Gonzalez Boneta and Julianne Hough.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Rock of Ages, which is set to open on June 1, 2012.

Poster for THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE Starring Dominic Cooper UPDATED

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: April 20th, 2011

Lionsgate has released an eye-catching poster for Lee Tamahori’s upcoming action-drama The Devil’s Double.  The film stars Dominic Cooper in the dual roles of Saddam Hussein’s sadistic son Uday and Uday’s body-double Latif Yahia.  The film played at Sundance and speaking to people who saw it, the general consensus seemed to be that it’s fun and excessive in a Scarface kind of way.  Steve caught the film and thought it was great, saying “if you’re a fan of gangster films, excessive violence, and a crazy story that’s never been told on screen, I definitely recommend The Devil’s Double.” I’m looking forward to seeing it when it hits theaters this summer.
Hit the jump to check out the poster, which I like but think it could use more gold.  The Devil’s Double opens July 29th.  Click here for Steve’s interview with Cooper about the film.
[Update: We've updated the article with the high-resolution version of the poster. Hit the jump to check it out.]

With this being Sundance week and all, what better time than now to premiere the trailer for Robert Redford’s new film The Conspirator? (In case you live under a rock, Redford acquired the festival in 1985 and has been spearheading it ever since). Directed by Redford, the period film tells the story of Mary Surratt, the female who was charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the aftermath that followed her arrest.  The film boasts a wildly impressive cast including Robin Wright as Surratt, James McAvoy, Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline, Stephen Root, Justin Long, Danny Huston and Jonathan Groff. The film is set to be released this April. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

Brian De Palma Will Next Direct PASSION, Remake of Gallic Thriller CRIME D’AMOUR

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 26th, 2011

It’s been three long years since director Brian De Palma last made a film (2007’s Redacted), and now it looks like the Scarface director has found his next project. De Palma recently announced that he will helm the thriller Passion, which is a remake of the 2010 Gallic psychodrama Crime d’amour. De Palma had this to say regarding the U.K.-set drama:
“Not since Dressed to Kill have I had a chance to combine eroticism, suspense, mystery and murder into one spell-binding cinematic experience”
The original film starred Kristin Scott Thomas and told the story of two feuding coporate execs, one of whom takes their dislike for each other to extreme lengths. Variety reports that principal photography will commence in August, with key cast to be announced by the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film will apparently take a European approach to financing, with the project being a co-production between France, Germany, U.K. and Spain (Not unlike Roman Polanski’s star-studded production of God of Carnage).

Michael Fassbender Joins Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS Starring Noomi Rapace

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 26th, 2011

Michael Fassbender is the latest actor to jump onto director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The film, which originated as a prequel to Scott’s Alien and then became a wholly original film, currently has Noomi Rapace set in the starring role. Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek) wrote the script for the film, and both he and Scott recently released statements regarding its status as an original film and not the Alien prequel everyone was expecting. However, Scott did say that “keen fans will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA.” Fassbender will apparently play an android in the flick, with Rapace taking on the lead role and Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie reportedly circling the second female lead, a character named “Vickers.” THR reports that the Inglourious Basterds star was offered the role last year, with talks on and off throughout the fall. Now, finally, his deal is closed. As we reported earlier today, the release date of the film has shifted from March 2012 to June 3rd 2012.  Fassbender will next be seen in X-Men: First Class on June 3rd of this year.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry and Zac Efron Set to Party on NEW YEAR’S EVE

by Jeff Ames    Posted: December 15th, 2010

As the list of actors continues to pile up on Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve, one has to wonder if everyone involved will have little more than brief cameos. But who would do such a thing as place the likes of Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Biel together in a film and then give them little more than 10 to 15 minutes of screen time? Probably the same guy who directed Valentine’s Day.
THR reports the already very large ensemble — which includes Hilary Swank, Sofia Vergara, Lea Mitchele, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Swift and Abigail Breslin — will have to make room for three more. Namely Sarah Jessica Parker, recent Golden Globe nominee Halle Berry and Zac Efron. The cast has yet to commit to the film, but negotiations are underway with everyone involved. (“So Mr. De Niro, who would you like to play?” “I’ll take the 12-minute role for $10 million.” “Done.”New Year’s Eve is set for release December 9, 2011.
