New Trailer and Clip for HORRIBLE BOSSES; First Clips from BAD TEACHER

This post contains a few video treats from two of this summer’s R-rated comedies with two-word titles.  Firstly, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Horrible Bosses, led by Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day.  There is enough in common with the first trailer that I was initially unable to distinguish between the two, but there is enough new footage to be worth a look.  Even better, the new trailer is accompanied by a Horrible Bosses clip (approximately 97% new footage) which features the three stars on a stakeout.  Horrible Bosses opens July 8.
To accommodate my theme, Columbia has released the first two clips for Bad Teacher starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, and Jason Segel.  I found one of the clips quite funny — the other less so.  Let’s see how well you know me in the comments!  Bad Teacher opens June 24.  Watch the whole shebang after the break.

Paramount Options Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton Story FURIOUS LOVE for Martin Scorsese

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 1st, 2011

Paramount is finalizing an option deal to develop a feature based on Furious Love, an account of the public love affair of Hollywood royalty Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.  According to Deadline, the studio is pursuing the project as a possible directing vehicle for Martin Scorsese.  Paramount reportedly beat out several other suitors, including Natalie Portman and The King’s Speech writer David Seidler, to secure the rights to the book by Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger.
Scorsese is in post-production on Hugo Cabret for the November 23 release.  The director has collected a number of potential follow-ups: including the hitman drama The Irishman, a Frank Sinatra biopic, and the period adaptation Silence.  The story of Taylor and Burton certainly has plenty to offer a man who loves Old Hollywood.  Both were married when they met on the set of Cleopatra in 1960 and began the romance.  The affair incited endless public scrutiny and swarms of paparazzi for the next decade and a half.  Burton and Taylor eventually married in 1964, divorced in 1974, remarried in 1975, and separated for good in 1976.  Read the official synopsis for Furious Love after the jump.

Robert Redford and Nick Nolte to Star in Adaptation of A WALK IN THE WOODS

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 1st, 2011

Earlier today, Legendary Pictures made the officially announced development on a Jackie Robinson biopic, a project that was first reported in early April.  There is an apparent discrepancy between the initial report, which suggested Robert Redford will star as Branch Rickey, and the press release which failed to mention Redford’s name at all.  24 Frames, the source of the Redford-centric news, asked around to see if something changed since the story was sent to print.  A rep from Redford’s camp declined to comment; a Legendary spokeswoman stated, simply, there is “no casting announcement at this time.”  The outlet believes Redford is still attached, and the news will surface in a more official capacity at a later date.
In consolation, 24 Frames offers information on Redford’s next project, an adaptation of the Bill Bryson book A Walk in the Woods.  Redford first announced that he would produce and star as the fictional Bryson in A Walk in the Woods in 2005.  At the time, he longed for a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid reunion with Paul Newman before he died in 2008.  Newman is the very definition of irreplaceable, but as far as replacements go, you can’t do much better than Nick Nolte.  Nolte is now attached to play Bryson’s friend Stephen as the two out-of-shape men venture to walk the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail.  Christopher Columbus and Barry Levinson have each been mentioned as possible directors in the past, but it’s not specified if either might return to the project.  Read the official book synopsis after the break. http://collider.com/robert-redford-nick-nolte-a-walk-in-the-woods/94196/

Casting Call: Lucas Till, Kyle Schmid, Sonja Kinski, Rachel Blanchard, and Juliet Landau Star in DARK HEARTS; Rachael Taylor Joins LOFT

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: June 1st, 2011

Lucas Till, Kyle Schmid, Sonja Kinski, Rachel Blanchard, and Juliet Landau have signed on to join Goran Visjnic and Richard Edson in the independent noir thriller Dark Hearts.  Per Variety, the script by Christian Piers Betley centers on a “struggling artist [who] accompanies his younger brother to a secret gig where he finds his muse in sultry singer (Kinski) only to be thrust into a maelstrom of art, blood and passion, leading to a dangerous love triangle.”  Shooting began in May in Los Angeles under the direction of Rudolf Buitendach; Dark Hearts wraps production later this week.

First Posters for ONE DAY and THE CONSPIRATOR

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 14th, 2011

Focus Features recently moved One Day up to July 8, which I quickly marked on my calendar.  As directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education), Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are sure to charm in this high-concept romance: two friends who meet on the night of their college graduation and proceed to meet exactly once each year on July 15 for the next two decades.  It sounds very Blue Valentine, and this washed-out One Day poster does not seem concerned with such comparison.
The Conspirator perhaps boasts an even greater pedigree: Robert Redford directs Robin Wright, James McAvoy, Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Kline in the tale of Mary Surratt, the woman who was charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.  View the first posters for both One Day and The Conspirator after the jump.
One Day opens July 8.  Via Yahoo! Movies:

Adapted from the internationally praised bestselling novel, One Day charts an extraordinary relationship. Emma (Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) meet on the night of their college graduation – July 15th, 1988. She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground.
For the next two decades, every July 15th reveals to us how “Em” and “Dex” are faring, as their friendship ebbs and flows with the passing of the years. Through laughter and romance, heartbreak and exhilaration, they experience the grandeur of life. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along.

The Conspirator opens April 15.  Via Kino Gallery:

In the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, seven men and one woman are arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State. The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt, owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth, and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks.

Trailer for Robert Redford’s Lincoln Assassination Film THE CONSPIRATOR

With this being Sundance week and all, what better time than now to premiere the trailer for Robert Redford’s new film The Conspirator? (In case you live under a rock, Redford acquired the festival in 1985 and has been spearheading it ever since). Directed by Redford, the period film tells the story of Mary Surratt, the female who was charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the aftermath that followed her arrest.  The film boasts a wildly impressive cast including Robin Wright as Surratt, James McAvoy, Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline, Stephen Root, Justin Long, Danny Huston and Jonathan Groff. The film is set to be released this April. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.
Here’s the trailer for The Conspirator:

Brian De Palma Will Next Direct PASSION, Remake of Gallic Thriller CRIME D’AMOUR

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 26th, 2011

It’s been three long years since director Brian De Palma last made a film (2007’s Redacted), and now it looks like the Scarface director has found his next project. De Palma recently announced that he will helm the thriller Passion, which is a remake of the 2010 Gallic psychodrama Crime d’amour. De Palma had this to say regarding the U.K.-set drama:
“Not since Dressed to Kill have I had a chance to combine eroticism, suspense, mystery and murder into one spell-binding cinematic experience”
The original film starred Kristin Scott Thomas and told the story of two feuding coporate execs, one of whom takes their dislike for each other to extreme lengths. Variety reports that principal photography will commence in August, with key cast to be announced by the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film will apparently take a European approach to financing, with the project being a co-production between France, Germany, U.K. and Spain (Not unlike Roman Polanski’s star-studded production of God of Carnage).

Michael Fassbender Joins Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS Starring Noomi Rapace

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 26th, 2011

Michael Fassbender is the latest actor to jump onto director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The film, which originated as a prequel to Scott’s Alien and then became a wholly original film, currently has Noomi Rapace set in the starring role. Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek) wrote the script for the film, and both he and Scott recently released statements regarding its status as an original film and not the Alien prequel everyone was expecting. However, Scott did say that “keen fans will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA.” Fassbender will apparently play an android in the flick, with Rapace taking on the lead role and Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie reportedly circling the second female lead, a character named “Vickers.” THR reports that the Inglourious Basterds star was offered the role last year, with talks on and off throughout the fall. Now, finally, his deal is closed. As we reported earlier today, the release date of the film has shifted from March 2012 to June 3rd 2012.  Fassbender will next be seen in X-Men: First Class on June 3rd of this year.
